Reviews for Paya Beach Spa & Dive Resort

Review 1:DISASTER - horrible food, room make-up after hard push / many reminders, complitely no hotel territory` cleaning, all pics on bookingh com far away from reality; I`ve been there during low season (end dec-beg of Jan) - they even didnt clean territory, pool, evrything was closed - DISASTER - NEVER EVER

Review 2:quite helpful team - I faced with no ferry` connection due to bed weather and they help me to arrange speed boat

Review 3:The room is really not clean.. And they didn't make my room when I checked in... Although the previous guests left early in the morning...

Review 4:Location is nice, facing the beach, quiet and peaceful. Almost no means of transportations on Paya beach made this area particularly ideal for a gateway from city life

Review 5:if the staying in the hotel include a tour of the islands that is better. i advice the travelers to booking at this hotel best regards Majid Yasir

Review 6:poor service particularly on housekeeping; no entertainment at night

Review 7:laidback; mountain view; short distance walk to the nice beach by the islet where we were able to swim with the fishes & see the corals

Review 8:Buffet is not worth for price & very less varieties Bar menu is okay Toilet was not cleaned properly during the check in Air con was not working properly Table lamp was not working at all

Review 9:Staff is friedly & responsive Location is good

Review 10:Quite dirty room, air conditioner not working well, staff with 'stress face', hard to find Malay's food around here.

Review 11:Nice environment and beautiful resort.

Review 12:The food at hotel restaurant for lunch and dinner were expensive.

Review 13:When we arrive there is no standard chalet available as i book online due several customer extend their stay.Out of hotel management good will they upgrade my rm frm standard double to suprior double for same price as standard. My family and i was overwelhm

Review 14:Took 1 hour to check us in they couldn't find our booking even though we had a picture of the confirmation of it on our iPad. The room we stayed in was only serviced once in the whole 5 days we were there. There were ants all under the bed and up one of the walls but this was solved with some spray the hotel provided.

Review 15:The beach

Review 16:The food is not only totally overprice, but also really bad. We tried several different dishes, starting from chinese to European and fish/lobster. Nothing was good, the lobster we believed was frozen. Everything is old and dirty, would need a refurbishment badly. The staff is not really friendly, however they helped us to book a taxi from mersing to Kuala Lumpur. There is so much garbage around the restort and especially the beach. No one seems to care about that. This was really a disappointment as you do not really want to lie around at the beach. We were really disappointed moreover as with only a few changes and better management this could be a really decent hotel.

Review 17:The rooms are spacious enough. The activities organized (snorkling and ATV Tour) were fun. The location of the hotel is nice, good snorkling around.

Review 18:Organising of the ferry was a nightmare. The breakfast was inedible - we ate at the local food outlets (4 of them) that were just 2 min walk from the resort. My friends room had bed bugs. Bathrooms were cleaned but poorly (paint over the grout to make it look white). Wifi was useless. I paid a shopkeeper to tap into their wifi.

Review 19:The snorkeling was great and it was nice to sit at the bar/restaurant by the beach at sunset. The staff here were the only ones I saw smile.

Review 20:The wifi is very poor and limited in one place and the mosqitos problems as well

Review 21:I like most the services of the front counter or registration counter and the breakfast also was good the rooms are clean and the security over there is great

Review 22:The rooms, the restaurant, the staff. the location, the swimming pool, the services, the wifi, ...We booked through booking after we saw the pictures of the room on the app. We paid 60€/night (for 4 nights stay), we cancel the 2 last nights. The prices we saw once we arrived were 35€/night for locals. The breakfast has insects on the food, the rooms have anthills and are far from the pictures. The good things about this is you can see the pics and figure out yourselves. I share these comments with you to save your money and time. I would really appreciated if someone would have done this before for us. Enjoy any other place.

Review 23:After thinking on what I liked the most, I could not find any single thing.

Review 24:The standard cottage is too small and looks nothing like the picture. Too many mosquitoes. The food at the restaurant is just okay. After going on a tour of the island, I noticed the resort was not on the best part of it; there are nicer beaches, but that of the hotel is pretty too.

Review 25:The resort is beautiful. The beach is really nice as well. Very quiet. Several restaurants and shops nearby. Beer is really cheap on the island!

Review 26:Good food in restaurant although more vegetarian options would be welcome. Free wifi but poor connection although this could be common for the island, not just this resort.

Review 27:Friendly staff and beautiful location. Great snorkeling from the beach. Nice room with balcony.

Review 28:Rooms not cleaned adequately daily, not attentive staff and noisy surroundings. Beds basically made a bathroom not cleaned in my 4day stay. Food not good and not presented well with a lot of flies around food at breakfast.

Review 29:Nice a little and comfortable room with sea view and small balcony.

Review 30:The toilet is a bit dirty and we don't have any water kettle in our room. We stayed in their standard cottage room but I'm not sure if other rooms were like that or is it because they don't supply any in their standard cottage room..

Review 31:The staffs there was polite and good.. The beach was amazing..

Review 32:Fogging day on thursday is terrifying my wife and child.

Review 33:Facilities. Nice arrangement of activities. Many beds enought for three of us. Nice view of restaurant for dinner.

Review 34:There were ants around inside both chalets that we stayed, though harmless.

Review 35:Great location with several places to get food and drinks. Very friendly staff who took us for snorkeling two days. Breakfast was delicious and abundant. Both superior and standard chalets are comfortable and look really nice. Sunset view was awesome. Snorkeling/diving by the beach where the resort is also very nice, there´s a reef right there.

Review 36:Wifi is too slow, unable to refresh at all. Breakfast do not have much variety and not nice at all. Do not have safe or any keys to lock or keep our Waller or bag while we go diving/snorkeling.

Review 37:Convenient, short walking distance to seaside

Review 38:This hotel doesn't provide good wifi connection not only in the roombut also in the lobby. In the room you don't have wifi and the wificonnection in the lobby is too weak in which you have to wait forseveral Min to open one simple page as google.com. Really I think thatthis good place and facility hotel need one good manager to provide thissimple services. If you need internet connection, It is not that you arelooking for!!

Review 39:Place, Swimming pool

Review 40:The room is not the way i expected..the place for food is limited.the coral, only few.price range, not worth.

Review 41:The blue ocean.and the politeness of the spa staff.

Review 42:Flies all over the food. Room was not clean from previous guests and even though we complaint they never came to clean it, the windows were sealed with plastic bags, a lot of garbage outside of the room.

Review 43:- the dirty swimming pool - the chalet doors with large glass panes - no wifi nor cellular connection from the chalets - late check-in and early check-out

Review 44:Convenience stores and affordable food around the resort within walking distance

Review 45:large noisy groups of people late at night cleanliness standards were poor - linen looked grubby, furniture was tired and dirty, shower room needed a good clean and the pool water was rank - oily and gloopy! Breakfast buffet - the kitchen staff did not keep up with replenishing fast enough on the busy days - after I complained, this did improve and someone was stationed to check the provision

Review 46:snorkelling around the island at the end of the beach was excellent and there was peace and quiet there during the day Being able to hire snorkelling kit at the resort and boat trips snorkelling The view from the room looking out at the sea/ the beach

Review 47:Many little shops and restaurants, reasonably priced A stones throw away from the resort, not isolated like other resorts on the island Snorkeling is beautiful, free and within swimming distance. Waterfall is close. ATV bike rides were loads of fun. Wifi could be improved, however little shops do cater for this and anyway, who wants to be on their cellphone on an island

Review 48:no line if we stay at chalet, brekafast not variety has been serving to guest, wifi only avaiable at public area

Review 49:The place quiet from people, nice pool their one malay restaurant serving good food

Review 50:The room we staying had a lot of fungus on the walls and in the A/C. Turning on the AC made us both cough. The sheets on the beds have holes and are not clean. The pillow smelled like fungus as well.

Review 51:beach chalets are very good

Review 52:There was no wifi and fridge in the room. There was also mosquitos.

Review 53:The beach was really near and there were many options for food. many mini marts and duty free shops were around the area.

Review 54:A lot of Mosquitoes inside the room, called the staff to fogging for 2nd time, didn't come till check out. The taste of breakfast is poor.

Review 55:Landscape is good, nearer to the beach.

Review 56:Waited half day for towel only. The bed are old. Beach front are not that great. And the pool are out of service. The front desk receptionist ask us to use the old pool and the pool water are not clear and can't see thru. U dare to swimming ?

Review 57:It was a great trip, great place and awesome location. Very convenient for beverage stores. The Chinese restaurant are quite good.

Review 58:Basically no wifi (not possible even to send message in whatsup). Was a bit better signal only early in the morning and only directly near reception. Location can be better. There is a jungle "road" to Tekek (requires good physical state and can be done only during the day).

Review 59:Fancy looking Hauses, a lot of activities (organised tours) around. Nice beach.

Review 60:Breakfast was disappointing with little variety and quality was poor.No floor towel in the room to dry our feet. Poor internet signal for surfing.

Review 61:Good location for activities. Efficient staff assistance and generally clean rooms.

Review 62:the lakeside rooms were unpleasant and not very clean. i got attacked by mosquitos on my face, approximately 15 bites in the room and woke up looking like shrek. One could say that the room would make a good ski course because the room was tilted to the extent where things would roll across the floor.

Review 63:the dive instructor we went with was amazing! highly recommend the dive centre as it was well-priced and a great experience. the dive instructor was helpful and friendly.

Review 64:-Exepect the pay activities there is not much to do around

Review 65:-Activities are awesome!! The snorkeling diving is great, you will see many fish and even shark and turtle if you get lucky. There are also amazing corals -The scuba diving is also awesome and the personnal is very friendly. That was an amazing experience :)

Review 66:It took 4 goes to end up with the room we had booked. They tried to give us cheaper rooms which were not beach front when we had paid for beach front. Breakfast and coffee Swimming pool looked unclean. Didn't go in.

Review 67:It was reasonably priced Restaurant staff were very helpful and friendly

Review 68:Lodge rooms leave little room but to sleep, but beds are comfortable and shower has hot water. Loud groups of guests with little concern for others and thin walls. Breakfast was simple and uninspiring. Wifi range is great, but connection REALLY POOR.

Review 69:Resort was comprehensive....activities, dive shop, pool, buffet meals, beach grill, duty-free store on premises, good value for area. Staff was more outgoing than most others. Location secluded, but offers enough.

Review 70:Not even 5% focus to provide some sort of European breakfast. WIFI is Absolutely poor too non-existing and not according international expectations.

Review 71:The staff was very helpfull, polite and aprochable. The divingschool of Ben Hua was nearly perfect and very customer oriënted! Sublime performance.

Review 72:Breakfast was terrible!!! 5 star facilities, and 3 star service...!!!

Review 73:Amazing , Clean, Modern, Fantastic! Wow... beach bar food and drinks was superb.

Review 74:The food although cheap was not great. Strangely the best option was pasta. It didn't really matter the surroundings were more important. I was there early March I'm not sure what it would be like in July/August I saw signs for paintball which I assumed would start up later on.

Review 75:The resort was a 3 minute walk from the ferry so easy to get to, even with a heavy bag. The snorkelling around the corals was amazing multi coloured tropical fish, turtles and black tipped sharks(harmless). The room was big, clean and had air conditioning. The restaurant and bar were on the water's edge where you could see the sun setting.

Review 76:For a superior room I would have liked the room to be of such standard but the toilet leaked and the bathroom looked like nothing. Wifi available only in the common space and it is awfully slow. Some of the staffs were utterly helpless and the dive centre not worth trying.

Review 77:The bbq and the comfort of the bed

Review 78:Room was clean, resort was not, breakfast they should not bother anymore. Dirty plates, food non existent I imagine one would be better fed in a soup kitchen, as for dinner after getting our food served raw on the first night so we ate outside the resort ... No WiF. please stop advertising it. Staff were rude, problems were made more difficult. Holidays are ssupposed to be fun.... its help we needed not hassle..it could be sooooo good yet is overwhelming bad.get your act together please. Ive stayed in hotels, hostels amd homestays all over the world and am very patient but the treatment here was the worst I ever exexperienced. Finally the pool is disgusting. Do not get in and it is not the pool in the picture on the website

Review 79:The surrounding beaches, jungle and the local restaurants close by.

Review 80:Didn't like the cats around your feet at dinner time. Definitely spoiled the ambience!

Review 81:Beautiful spot to have dinner overlooking the sea. Very good room right on beach with small balcony. Food was very good.

Review 82:- Mosquito net is a must - Suggestion: incense against mosquitoes, swimming pool area to be cleaned up, larger selection of items for the breakfast

Review 83:- Location - Dedicated & efficient staff - Cuisine at the restaurant - Facilities like the spa or restaurant

Review 84:remoteness of the village. the island was pretty much completely shut down for monsoon season. It is either a challenging walk or an expensive boat ride to the larger village.

Review 85:character of the village, snorkelling

Review 86:no activities were available (snorkelling, etc). misleading charter boat times given and no refund compensated food made my husband sick and vomit all night long

Review 87:backyard is the beach with a swing

Review 88:I almost not aware the existing of souvenir shop because hidden at the other side.

Review 89:The beach area that close with the small island at the corner which you can walk to when water is in low tide.

Review 90:As its monsoon season now, so others shops n restaurants closed. Less varieties of alcoholic choices to choose.

Review 91:We stayed at superior seafront which facing the beach at the front n swimming pool at the back. staff are friendly n foods are in reasonable priCE. n its a duty free island!

Review 92:Most of the staff wasn't really making you feel welcome. No smiles or happy faces. There was no outdoor activities due to the monsoon, which was fair, but they didn't come up with any other activities than Scrabble. You couldn't really do anything due to the monsoon, that was at least what they said. It seemed like they were annoyed that we were there during the monsoon. Finally the food was really bad. Only the seafood was worth eating. But when they closed it due to the monsoon, we were left with frozen pizza and noodles. Even though we were a group of students that normally aren't that picky, I could continue listing things we wasn't satisfied with. At least we were a group of friends who had great fun from the games we played and so on.

Review 93:The location was really great, and after an upgrade of our room (due to something that looks like bed bugs) the room was really nice.

Review 94:More than half of the facilities described in the offer were not existent, such as the gym or the internet room. Due to low season non of the complementary activities were offered since a minimum of 6-10 ppl would be required for a tour to take place. We ended up sitting in the resort 24\7 since the staff was also unable to name or show us any walking or hiking track. There were no restaurants or shops apart the ones from the resort. I would not recommend this resort if someone is planning for a stay of more than one night.

Review 95:Tioman Island ist sehr schoen.

Review 96:The behaviour of the staff was unfriendly and you had to wait to be served quite a long time both in the restaurant and the reception. The staff did not give any attention to the guests in many occations. Toilet facilities were out of use for the whole week in the restaurant/reception area.

Review 97:The location by the beach is really beautiful and the spa offers nice treatments. The restaurant by the beach offers great seafood with amazing view.

Review 98:the foods quite expensive. and the menu so little choice . menu need to upgrade.

Review 99:satisfied with hotel and its so safety with guarded around. good environment. clean and safety breakfast is nice and more choice

Review 100:I stayed at the lowest rate unit - standard lodge (which I later got to know from the resort staff that it is typically sold due to high occupancy period). I would expect a generally clean and well maintained unit. However, the housekeeping was poor (dirty toilet interior, dusty and sandy floor, shower head not working properly, toilet door with broken lock, grimed filled air con panel). Felt itching all over and couldn't sleep at night. Suspected the mattress/bed sheets were not cleaned. Generally housekeeping at resort common area were average. Restaurant cleanliness is not top notch either. Staff handling food were spotted with dirty uniform. The swimming pool was a horrible sight and can understand the absence of user in and round the pool.

Review 101:Dining at the beach side restaurant at the resort was a better experience. Serving staff service was good and food quality and varieties were fine. The mosquitoes were not welcomed though.

Review 102:Nothing

Review 103:Nice place, beautiful sea view and poll..all shop and restaurant have a good price not to expensive..have a many malay restaurant so easy for out dinner n lunch..

Review 104:May be in future include another snorkel activity after lunch in the package. The make up room service can be improved.

Review 105:We like the deluxe suite room very spacious. My children enjoy the jacuzzi bathtub and swimming pool. The breakfast was good. The snorkeling package was great. Hope to have longer time at Marine Park.

Review 106:Staff were not friendly at all Food at hotel expensive for nothing... Taste not good.. No refill at buffet... If something finishes they don't refill... Mosquitoes are a problem... They should seal openings in wood

Review 107:I liked the location and the style of the rooms... The divers cove is nice

Review 108:Chooses of food are limited and the staff are " lifeless ", acting like they are bored, not really connecting with guests, not adding at all some soul in their daily routine ( and it is sad that you, as a client, you really can feel this...)

Review 109:Amazing location, good facilities and cleanliness

Review 110:There are bedmites on the bed!!! I hope the management will do something to it.

Review 111:It is a really decent and comfortable hotel. Dive centre(divers cove) is right in front of the hotel which make it very convenient. Will always go back there again.

Review 112:The cleaning of rooms were not good. The cleaners did not clean our bathroom at all. There is a mosquito issue due to the location. And we were a bit sad to see that the beaches are a bit trashed by tourists probably.

Review 113:We liked the quality, the various food, the kindness of Malaysian people.

Review 114:I know it was the simplest challet they have in offer, but for 200myr a night i would expect at least a proper door to bathroom...which was more like additional plastic room with holes all over the walls...The room was clean, but old and used. How the AC could give the chill, if the door wasn't from floor to sealing? and we were bitten by mosqitos of course. Better look for something else instead. Plenty of choice in Tekek, ABC Beach and Salang as well for this price.

Review 115:Location, nice surrounding

Review 116:Standard lodge with 2 double decker beds for 4 people is not fit for 4. No walking space after we placed our luggage on the floor. Only 2 chairs to sit on. Shared balcony with adjacent room. We had to upgrade to a more expensive room.

Review 117:Disappointed with the standard lodge. Set menu for 2 is good value for money.

Review 118:Construction of new pool behind room noisy and was never advised prior to booking. Had to PAY 20MYR for extra room key - I find this unacceptable. Many items on food menu (which is the same at both restaurants) were unavailable the 4 days we were there.

Review 119:Good location in very small town, beach was nice with good walk in snorkeling areas.

Review 120:Room was okay but no tooth brush and tooth paste provided. Breakfast variety was very limited & poor, not even up to 3 star standard. We reached hotel at 7.30pm and wanted to check-out late but not allowed even though we explained next ferry to Mersing is only at 5.30pm. We waited at the jetty from 10am - 5.30pm doing nothing. Everything is expensive here. Even if you wanted go for snorkeling, life jacket rental and mask rental is very expensive. Snorkeling packages was so expensive. Ended up wasting lot of money.

Review 121:Was impressed with the photos displayed in booking.com and proceed with booking. First impression upon arrival in Paya was good. Greeted by staff from Paya Beach at the jetty itself who then picked up our bags to the resort. Resort is only 7 minutes walk from Paya Jetty.

Review 122:Staff was totally not interested and rude. Not a warm welcome, not friendly. We needed a return ticket for our bus from mersing to KL, reception didn't want to help even not try. If you don't have buffetcoupons you're not allowed to sit in the restaurant but you need to sit outside to order some a la carte food. Chalets are a bit old and not really clean. No water pressure. Please think twice before make a booking at this accommodation, too sad.

Review 123:Location and food was ok.

Review 124:Cats should not beallowed in the restaurant, it is unhygenic.

Review 125:Not clean and service bad

Review 126:Location

Review 127:Best vacation place

Review 128:Lots of stray cats in resort and in restaurant

Review 129:Dirty

Review 130:Staff no friendly

Review 131:Less choice of food and time limit.

Review 132:Comfortable rooms. Snorkeling and coral views are appreciated.

Review 133:Pool closed for maintenance, no towels, bed sheets not clean, no light in T&B,

Review 134:A lot of insects in the room. Need to be more clean.

Review 135:The beach view.

Review 136:the staff very bad attitude. not friendly.

Review 137:i like the environment. the beach so beautiful.

Review 138:Tioman only have 1 ATM, 15mn boat from the resort be careful take cash before. Not super clean inside (ants in the room)

Review 139:The location. The staff.

Review 140:The deposit is RM200 WHICH I didn't know about earlier..

Review 141:The environment Food

Review 142:Breakfast not good

Review 143:Facilities need to improve more
