Reviews for Namkhan Riverside Hotel
Review 1:The bed was very hard and uncomfortable. Due to the humidity, the towels, bed sheets and pillows had a bad smell. Even though they appeared to be clean, many of them also had rips and stains. The bathroom drain had a continuous smell of sewage coming from it.
Review 2:Great location and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room and balcony were spacious and we had a beautiful view of the river. The housekeeping staff were very efficient.
Review 3:Very basic hotel, nothing but towel, no kettle as well, not hygiene at all, bad smell in bathroom, a lot of ants in bed and on the table and staff didn't do anything for it, have to wait for long time for simple breakfast. Staff were nice.
Review 4:It was a mistake on my part to book this hotel as a solo traveler; it's really more suited to families and larger groups that want multiple beds. There are a lot of options in Luang Prabang, many of which don't show up online. This is nothing against this great hotel, but I wouldn't recommend it for others traveling solo, as it's the wrong kind of overkill (too many beds rather than luxurious or extra quiet).
Review 5:Family-run hotel, hard-working staff took extra trouble where they could to make it a good stay.
Review 6:Our bedroom had musty smell and the closet in the bedroom was very old and musty. It was our worst room in the Southeast Asia. The Staff is really lovely but unfortunately it was not very comfortable our stay in this Hotel.
Review 7:The Staff is really very nice and helpful.
Review 8:The bathrooms are very basic
Review 9:Charming little hotel next to the the river. Walking distance to restaurants and the night market. Tasty breakfast and lomade prepared by the staff. We were given good advice by the hotel manager about the tours and attractions.
Review 10:Should have shower cap in bathroom. Refrigerator did not work (but we did not inform hotel till last day). On last day bed sheet has blood stained, however we did not complaint to change.
Review 11:Good location it is very easy to access around the town
Review 12:The first room we were alloted was unclean with water logging in the bathroom. However they did upgrade us to a better room the next morning and no extra charge.
Review 13:Great location. Close to all restaurants and sights.
Review 14:Very helpful staff, helped with airport transfers, tours, directions, went out of their way to insure a good stay. great breakfast cooked to order, nice view, quiet, comfortable bed, close to everything. Lots of atmosphere, wood floors, teak wainscoting. plenty of hot water, good wifi(not perfect but good).
Review 15:We had a downstairs room and it was OK, but not great. The bathroom wasn't very clean and a bit of a mess. Drain was on opposite side of room from the shower head so the whole floor was always wet. Shower didn't work all that well either.
Review 16:Location was nice. Short walk to most things. Breakfast was good and price was OK for Luang Prabang. Room was OK except for the bathroom.
Review 17:Nothing!
Review 18:The staff were amazing! So friendly and helpful. Great location and view of river from room. Clean and comfortable bed. Breakfast nice. Will definately go back!
Review 19:There was no bureau or closet, so had to unpack on the bed/floor. The air conditioner and outside noise was disturbing during the night.
Review 20:The staff was very helpful, carrying our suitcases up the stairs, explaining the city and giving tips on what to see and do, where to eat, arranging trips. Great breakfast overlooking the river.
Review 21:We found all the staff helpful and efficient, but particularly the manager and breakfast waiter who were happy to chat and help with useful bits of advice. The views were just amazing. Our room was squeaky clean. Two free bottles of water a day were most welcome. Perfectly positioned for relaxing and sightseeing.
Review 22:The shower was a little disappointing, shower head was very small
Review 23:Staff were extremely helpful and thoughtful and went out of there way, greated with a cold glass of lemon juice, very refreshing. Geoff and Brenda Gill
Review 24:No bad experience, room needs upgrading but you get what you pay for and the linen is fresh and clean.
Review 25:The staff are super friendly, helpful, suggesting things to do. I love them. Breakfast thrown in for the price of the room and really good too. Always a nice juice for you when you return from your day out. Lovely location on the river. Very "local"
Review 26:We booked VIP Bus ticket from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng via the Hotel, but we got downgraded to minivan which is so cramped and with bad driver, and it was 6hours ride. BUT it wasn't the Hotel's fault, it was the travel agent.
Review 27:Very nice, staffs are very helpful and friendly. Location is in the center of LP city, easy to get anywhere. The view just super grand because it is by the riverside. You will want to enjoy your breakfast while enjoying the view from your balcony. Very worth the price!!!
Review 28:I booked VIP Bus package from the Hotel to go Vang Vieng from Luang Prabang which got changed to cramped minivan at the terminal. So the 6hours ride was really awful, BUT it's not the Hotel's fault.
Review 29:The staffs were really helpfull. They're super friendly and really gave us the best service. The room also nice and the location just perfect, on the riverside, so you can eat your breakfast and enjoy the view from the balcony. Easy to get anywhere. And they gave you best recommendation.
Review 30:We first wanted to stay there two nights. But then we stayed there six nights. Because we loved that place. The location is just perfect. In 3 minutes you reach the night market and the Hotel is next to the river and it is quiet there. The service of ben and Bill and their Team is just exzellent. They were so helpfull und carrying,we never experienced this in the same way than here. My friend was ill and they brought us to the doctor and gave him special food and Drinks. They also organised everything for us. The breakfast is also very good. You can choose different dishes and you can eat next to the river. It was always a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It is worth spending a lot of time there.
Review 31:The staff were so friendly and helpful. We only stayed one night as we had a short trip in Laos but I would definitely return to this accomodation. It's so close to the markets and restaurants.
Review 32:Nothing.
Review 33:Easily one of the best places we've stayed at in South East Asia. Ben and Bill are so lovely and welcoming, we really loved our stay. Quite a few times on our return to the hotel from a morning or afternoon out exploring, we were greeted with a free fruit shake. Bill in particular sat down with us on arrival and told us all about Luang Prabang, the best places to go to and eat at, and also the best places for money exchange etc. He was genuinely interested in helping us have a great time. The staff organised day trips, laundry service and bicycle rental for us, no request of ours was a hassle for them. Room was nice and a decent size, drain in the bathroom didn't drain very quickly, but in the grand scheme of things, we didn't care. Wifi worked well, air con also worked well, breakfast was lovely with lots of options to choose from. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends and family.
Review 34:Very bad WiFi in the rooms. No buffet breakfast, only one dish to be ordered and cooked in that moment. In our first room, the sheets and and the blanket were a bit dirty. The bathroom was full of mold on the walls.
Review 35:Very good position and staff cordiality in giving us suggestions and organizing our elephant riding tour.
Review 36:Thought it had a really good location and staff were lovely, giving you free drinks on arrival and after returning from trips. They were able to help with arranging transport and offering information for trips to do.
Review 37:When you shower the room flooded, stains on duvet and no shampoo/ bath soap. Very poor breakfast. We had the room behing the reception and at street level, very noisy!
Review 38:The kindness of the staff.
Review 39:The room was small, there was no hanging space for clothes. We had to 'steal' a standing rack and one bedside table from another room. No drinking water or toiletries in the room (other than some sudless slivers of Lux) or facilities for making tea. The sink leaked water all over the floor and there was no bath mat, no additional small towels. The fittings were cheap and not functional, the light barely enough to read. In short a typical Chinese run hotel. At one stage a very noisy, and I mean very noisy party was going on across the street. I am deaf and it was too loud even for me. I had to threaten to call the police to get them to turn the music down.. and it was after Lao's nominal curfew hour of 11pm. I would have hoped the hotel could have managed that better. In a nation with such great coffee they had instant sachets on a cheap plastic table, and I am sorry but powdered cow does not cut it..
Review 40:The staff were wonderful, helpful and responsive; the view and ambiance to die for. The road noise was minimal. It's located very close to the central area and close to the wonderful Icon bar.
Review 41:We had a room next to the street and there's a crazy street dog that kept barking for 2 hours.
Review 42:Very nice staff, next to the river, perfect location
Review 43:The manager was very helpful and helped us get great accommodation as they were booked out the next night. We left something behind and he went out of his way to locate the item, as well as charge my phone as I left it in Cambodia. The staff member Kevin was also very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.
Review 44:Fantastic staff. They did everything they could to help us plan our trips around luang Prabang and made us feel very welcome. Would love to stay again!
Review 45:The floor drain in the bathroom floor was in the wrong location. It caused the water to lay in the middle of the floor. It should have been located nearer to the shower .
Review 46:The management were very friendly and helpful .
Review 47:Everything was excellent!
Review 48:The place is incredible. The staff made us feel at home with their friendliness, always courteous with any request. The breakfast was good, fresh fruit with every breakfast option. It felt like living with a family as they had an adorable dog, a friendly happy kid who entertained us with his shenanigans when we were waiting for our bus back. They provided refreshing fresh juice after every outing. Always smiling, they made us feel super comfortable. I will not stay in any other place when in LP again.
Review 49:The bathrooms need a facelift.
Review 50:Great location and staff was friendly (Koun is a gem). The bathrooms need updating but we had booked 1 night and stayed 4...very pleasant!
Review 51:Delicious cold lemon drink served every time we arrived back at the hotel. Wonderful staff, so helpful and friendly. We were able to keep our room until 7pm on the day we checked out as we were taking the overnight bus.
Review 52:The shower had no hot water and when electricity went out water stopped as well.
Review 53:Staff was flexibility when it came for breakfast. Room was nice and spacious.
Review 56:We booked 2 standard bedrooms (1 for a couple which was very small and noisy under the stairs and one for 3 people, located underneath with a view... on the walls and a smelly bathroom). But there definitely seem to be nicer rooms in the hotel. One of our friend, a local from Luang Prabang, told us the price was very high for the value.
Review 57:very lovely and helpful staff great location breakfast on the side of the river
Review 58:The air-condition is not good. it is not cold.!!
Review 59:All Staff are friendly. Also, they recommand us about any place which we wanna go and manage about van for us.
Review 60:The bathroom facilities are close together - toilet, shower and sink - not a problem but maybe something to consider if you prefer space! They need to provide 'do not disturb/please make up room' signs for the doors so house keeping are clear when to come in or not!
Review 61:Great location. Very friendly and helpful staff! Decent WiFi. Very comfortable bed. Can hire bicycles and scooters. Lovely view from balcony and at breakfast. Fresh complimentary lemon juice twice a day.
Review 62:The staff is awesome, the rooms are clean and comfortable, breakfast was delicious, and the location is ideally situated between old town and Utopia. Great view of the Namkhan River. Would definitely stay here again.
Review 63:real fast was ok. Not a critique really but not as good as e east of the place
Review 64:close to great bars, restaurants, coffee, cakes, my Phu si. Very comfortable and good value for money
Review 65:Not really bad but uncomfortable to be given the 2nd floor with narrow staircase and taking of shoes each time one comes in from the outside!
Review 66:I have enjoyed the whole experience! It's a Lovely blend of the Traditional and Modern in every aspects! From the time i was in the coach from the Airport to My Hotel...the Sceneries reminded me of the place I was born! Very thoughtful Staff members, with a cold Juice every time one comes back from a tour or just a walkabout!
Review 67:I found the bedroom floor was a bit dusty. You can hear loud neighbours - sound travels a bit. I was unfortunate to be above some loud people on my one night, and no attempts by the manager were able to dissuade their noise and "activities", but I believe he had them removed to another hotel the next day. The Wi-Fi only worked in the reception area, not in my room. I tried to explain this to the staff but they didn't understand and weren't able to fix it.
Review 68:The location is great - almost everything is in walking distance and the staff, who are very helpful, will assist with getting you to attractions further afield or to get bus tickets. I had a bit of a wait from checkout to catching my bus and the staff organised for me to wait and rest in an empty room at the establishment next door (which I think they also run). I would stay here again. It's excellent value for money and good service.
Review 69:The bed was quiet hard.
Review 70:The staff were so helpful and kind. It was in an excellent location and breakfast was good! We got a free cold drink when we arrived and departed which was very much appreciated!!
Review 71:The hotel is next to the Khan river and takes about 7 minutes walking by the riverside to the town center. Breakfast is good with a lot of fruit and fruit juice. Wifi is good too. Overall, I quite enjoy my stay in this hotel.
Review 72:There is a big difference between Superior room and Superior Riverside View. Be sure to take the riverside room because it is much bigger and nicer. The shower in the bathroom is not inside a cabin. A lot of lizards on the balcony walls and many mosquitos, but this is common problem in this part of Laos. The breakfast is not a buffet, you have to order it and it is pretty small. WiFi very slow.
Review 73:The Riverside view room is big and has a very nice view. The personnel is very helpful and nice. The position of the hotel is near the main street. In 5 minutes you can reach every important place in the city.
Review 74:Complimentary cold fruit shake, even delivered to my room. Checked out at lunch time and waited for the night bus. In the afternoon the family let me rest and take a shower in one of the rooms for free. Rooms with view of the River are great!!! Lov
Review 75:The room we had did not have a refrigerator, but others did. The only complaint I have is that the sheets were not clean. Granted they did wash the white sheets, but they apparently do not bleach their clothes because several sheets, towels and pillow cases had stains on them.
Review 76:The hotel location is excellent, plus the breakfast was good. The AC worked well in our room and the wifi was good. It was also nice to receive lemonade by the staff after a hot day.
Review 77:Only one thing: the pillow is too flat & low. Makw it difficult to sleep.
Review 78:Almost everything: price, service, location, hotel room...ect especially the lime juice!
Review 79:The rooms needed upgrading, repair and upkeep.
Review 80:Vinh was the highlight of our stay. He was very hospitable and even with his limited English he made us laugh! He has such a positive attitude. The hotel itself needed a bit of attention, bit we still left contended because of Vinh.
Review 81:Very friendly and helpfull staff. Location is on the back of Mount Phousi so you have to walk about 5 minutes to city center. When we came back to the hotel we regularly got offered a free cold drink which was really nice. Nice breakfast place with view on the river. Rooms are simple but clean and offer all you need. Breakfast was basic but tasty and enough to start into the day. We would stay here again.
Review 82:the bathroom could have a courtain. when you shower, everything gets wet
Review 83:we loved Ben, the manager, always ready to help and give orientations! no real problems during our stay, we would definitely saty there again!
Review 84:Had a fantastic stay here, the staff are all so friendly and helpful. They even upgraded my room when i arrived. The breakfast is really good and includes a plate of fresh fruit. Everytime i arrived back to the guesthouse they offered me a complementary fruit shake, and water bottles are free for guests. My room was really nice and cleaned very well. I Really do recommend you stay here if you are visiting lp, the location is great, right on the river and a 5minute walk from the nightmarket. Thanks to everyone who works there for making my trip so special
Review 85:The shower sprays on the toilet seat while the drain is located on the opposite side of the bathroom.
Review 86:Nice hotel in a great and quiet location. Amazing and friendly staff always ready to help you. Breakfast by the river was really nice. Free water and welcome drink. We had a great time here. Highly recommended.
Review 87:rooms were a little musty and damp smelling, wifi was spotty except for in the lobby
Review 88:Easy access, extremely friendly staff, helpful, nice place, great breakfast, smoothie every time you came back to the hotel
Review 89:The roosters as I said but after the first night we get used to with its.
Review 90:The staff were proactive in making sure we were comfortable and in suggesting places to go. The hotel breakfast has lots of options and overlooks a scenic river and is very close to the main road. Our room was quite large and well maintained; the only fault we could find was the roosters woke us up in the night but it's not a big deal like everywhere in Laos . We enjoyed our stay here and would return and recommend it to other travellers.
Review 91:Family run hotel where we felt really cared for. Manager (excellent English) with great hints about what to do in Luang Prabang and assists in organising trips, transfers etc. Clean well looked after rooms and surroundings. Would always go back. Highly recommended.
Review 92:Despite the name, few of the rooms have actual river views. If prices were a bit lower, it would be great value.
Review 93:Location was very good and staff very helpfull. Our room was comfortable, but no widows :(
Review 94:There is nothing to not enjoy here. If you walk in here with a smile, you will leave with a smile.
Review 95:We booked only for 1 night but end up staying for 9 nights. Since we only booked for a night, we we're transferred at a different room the next day and another room the next couple of days and so on. We end up staying on 5 different rooms of the hotel which is fine with us as we like the rooms, all the beds are comfy, showers perfect and the rooms are cool. The rates are a bit expensive for Luang Prabang, but it's worth every penny. We will be back here again whenever we will be in town. The staff are very welcoming. We love the fresh fruit and juice/shakes served everytime we arrived after a day's tour and walking around.
Review 96:Wifi was sporadically available. Water pressure would occasionally fade, but not often.
Review 97:Service was impeccable and made up for any minor complaints we may have had. The owner truly cares about his guests and their comfort. Breakfast was great.
Review 98:Nothing
Review 99:Very very friendly And helpful staff, family feel. Safe, clean and geat location. We arrived early before check in and they invited us for free Belfast and a drink. Just wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 100:The glas doors are thin. Your neighbours are easy to hear as in japanese house with paper walls. Keep this in mind after 10 o clock. So your stay is as good as your neighbars.
Review 101:The staff and special the manager are wonderfull. Even after we checked out they treat us like something between kings and friends. The breakfast next to the river was wonderfull. Go there!
Review 102:The staff is lovely. Ben who runs the front desk speaks very good English and would go above and beyond if we needed anything. We really loved it here
Review 103:the position is excellent for us and the service here is superior. People here are friendly and nice. The breakfast is good.We like here, we really have happy times. thank you all of you! Nice!
Review 104:This was a charming and convenient spot. Everybody on staff was warm and friendly and really made us feel special! Ben was so helpful -- gave us tips and organized travel details. We really enjoyed having a balcony and relaxing there in the afternoons.
Review 105:Noise, from 4am, roosters and traffic, but probably the same for many other hotels in the area. Very hard bed, no storage space in rooms. Bathroom is 'wet' room.
Review 106:Excellent service from the manager, beyond the call of duty. Breakfast good, if slightly eccentric.
Review 107:The room smelled a little like mold, there was only one window on the door, and top (attic) rooms should be improved and renovated for that price.
Review 108:Good location by a river and short walk to the night market, great breakfast, and hospitable.
Review 109:Perhaps more local music as well as wider variety of songs. Also, more of a bar to visit in the evening and meet other people.
Review 110:Loved the pool as well as access to bikes. We enjoyed visiting the local villages. The people were very friendly. We also appreciated the free upgrade and that was an unexpected bonus! Thank you. Transportation to and from was excellent!
Review 111:Service and location are great. The room may look a little old at first sight but is equipped with modern facilities like flatscreen, rainshower and a very comfortable bed
Review 112:We liked every thing.
Review 113:Very friendly, helpful and informative reception staff, central location, nice breakfast, clean rooms and a place we would definitely go back to.
Review 114:The shower spraying on to the toilet. The cocks crowing and the dogs barking at unearthly hours.
Review 115:Breakfast very good. Ben is wonderful . Loved the fresh fruit drinks delivered to the room as soon as you arrived back after sight seeing
Review 116:The room was small and the bed rather hard but hey.....who wants to spend time in the room in Luang Prabang.
Review 117:Ask for a room with balcony and river view, great! Each time we returned after a day out we were greeted with a juice or fruit.
Review 118:A rooster starting crowing at 4am and didn't stop until 7am, so it wasn't the best sleep I've ever had!
Review 119:The manager, Ben, was so helpful and nice. He made our whole stay wonderful. Location was perfect. Overall, it was a great weekend.
Review 120:- You are required to take off your shoes at the entrance of the hotel - The toilet seat was broken - The drain was clogged - The staff attitude
Review 121:Nothing really
Review 122:The bathroom in some rooms had the shower over the toilet and try to get a room with a balcony anf take shampoo they dont provide
Review 123:Great position for all sights .good breakfast .The rooms with the balcony facing the river are great and the best thing of all was Ben the manager who was very helpful and friendly and made our stay perfect
Review 124:Facility is not well maintained (especially toilet) but clean
Review 125:Very friendly staff Very convenient location by the river and short walk anywhere Great river view
Review 126:The price is a bit steep given the quality level of the facilities. In particular the bathrooms leave a bit to be desired: it can be cold in Luang Prabang in the morning so a nice hot shower would be nice but the showers were not always able to deliver in that respect. Nonetheless a nice place to stay.
Review 127:Helpfulness of the owner. The location. The cute hotel doggy.
Review 128:Its a very good place to stay with very friendly staff and a very good breakfast. Ben our host is the best!! He knows the place and can give great reccomendations on the things to do, places to visit and restaurants. We had an amazing time!! Thank you Ben!!!
Review 129:Water on bathroom floor .no cupboards of drawers for clothes
Review 130:After we had our room changed we had a nice room with balcony river view.Fantasic service by Ben the manager always smiling and helpful .central position.Free hor drinks and water all day long.
