Reviews for Russian Pilgrim Residence
Review 1:A very complicated access: no ways to get there besides the car or taxi; pick up or shuttle could increase drastically the attractiveness of this hotel
Review 2:Perfect place for relaxation, exploration, and reflections: very caring but not intrusive personnel, location in the middle of protected historical and natural reserve, comfortable and clean facilities, tasty food, fast Internet
Review 3:We felt a little out of place when pilgrims stared at us but we're not friendly
Review 4:Setting was lovely and we slept beautifully. Wonderful dinner but option of beer would be nice but perhaps inappropriate for the venue, but I can't forget the wonderful dinner, no menu but beautiful presentation and choice.
Review 5:The bed and the pillows weren't the most comfortable -- but that didn't deter a good night's sleep . . .I also thought it a wee bit odd that I needed to actually "make the bed" with the top sheet that was provided.
Review 6:How special to be so very close to Jesus's Baptism site. . . The property is new so it is clean and nicely-appointed. The shower is very nice and the water is hot. Also it is very quiet at night which is lovely. In fact, lights out around 9 pm. I was a solo pilgrim, but it is perfect for groups as meals in the refectory are served family-style at specific times.
Review 7:Missed the TV a bit, although I am not a pilgrim (so maybe this did not count) ;-)
Review 8:Quite place at the Dead Sea, close as possible to Baptism site of Jesus Christ
Review 9:It's a bit of a pain to have to go through the guarded entrance because of the baptismal site, but not enough to keep me away.
Review 10:We will definitely return to this place. It's a perfect getaway to rest and reflect. It was by simple but impeccably clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the meals, lovely grounds, and hiking on the trails nearby. I would recommend it to anyone!
Review 11:Since it wasnt AC-season (Only 27C & dead humid) according to the priest who was the only one with the rights to turn on the AC it was very difficult to get any sleep. Also saw the same priest hit one of those beautiful ginger cats & that made me sad & puzzled & my faith got bruised a bit. Dont use the transportation that belongs the the place because they charge 50JD to the airport. You can easily get a taxi to drive down from Amman & then drive you to the airport for half that price or less.
Review 12:The kitchen staff was incredibly nice & made the most unbelievable dinners 6 evenings in a row. We were hungry but we werent able to finish the plates every evening. Loved those 2 ginger cats who gave a cosy feeling to the place. We had a close encounter with a big white wolf, feets away from an utter & trying to fall asleep to the sounds of hyenas & other undefined animals gives the place a feeling of being camping but with access to a very good shower.
Review 13:Nothing
Review 14:Tranquility, no bar, welcoming, friendly and devoted staff, 2 minutes walking to the baptism site, an excellent place for a retreat. Julita Markiewicz is very helpful and enthusiastic to give me a very informative tour of the church.
Review 15:We had to pay entrance fee for only getting to the place and walk around, but we knew that while booking and it is not The Pelgrim Residence that benefits from it.
Review 16:We liked the quietness of the place, the beautiful building and the Jordan river so close. The meals were very good and the staff really helpful.
Review 17:- Free WiFi - Good breakfast - Friendly staff - Quiet surroundings - Literally on the Jordan River - Beautiful facilities - Comfortable room - Very clean - Good price
Review 18:This is the best hotel I have ever lived in. It is right on the bank of Jordan River. You can see the light of the entire holy land during night time. The staff led us to the church in the hotel, explained to us about the full story of the land, and sang holy songs for us. That was such touching moment and my wife could not help stopping crying from the movement. Everything there is so amazing that word cannot express.
Review 19:The tour of the chapel and its iconography was wonderful. Everyone should do that as an add on to the baptism site The food is excellent and I recommend that guests take dinner at the Residence
Review 20:Wonderful environment and hospitality. We felt welcomed from the moment we arrived. The food was delicious and the environment was so peaceful - an oasis in the desert! We will definitely be returning!
Review 21:Possibly the best hotel I've ever been to. It's not 5 star. It's simple but it's perfect. The only noise you will hear is the birds chirping in the morning. The stars in the sky at night could not be clearer. Remote but very easy to get to from amman side at least (the way I came) I would think anyone going near the baptismal site should spend at least a night here. And those who run it so keen for you to enjoy your stay and delighted to show you the chapel and explain the icons.
Review 22:Missed some lighting in the gardens in the evening.
Review 23:It was such a nice and peaceful experience to stay at this unusual and magical place right next to the Jordan River. We were met with an exceptional hospitality by all the staff - as well as the two ginger cats:). Great Russian inspired dinner and breakfast.
Review 24:I should have stayed for an additional night, as the whole experience was really relaxing for the body and soul.
Review 25:It was purely by accident that I came across this surreal and beautiful residence, while looking for somewhere to stay in the vicinity of the baptism site. Upon arrival I was given a hearty and warm welcome by Elias, Anna and two ginger cats! Once I'd checked I was invited for the "Grand tour" of the surroundings by Elias. Our walk took us to the now confirmed site of Jesus' baptism. We then proceeded to a stretch of the Jordan where pilgrims on the Israeli side where taking a dip just metres away. I settled for cooling my feet in the Jordan while enjoying the ambience. On the way back we stopped by the Greek Orthodox church and finished up in the residence's own chapel in all its splendour. This was just on the floor above the residential area. Before going to dinner I watched the sun set beyond Jerusalem. The Russian lady pilgrims had made quite a spread for both dinner as well as breakfast, which took up most of the table, being Finnish I particularly enjoyed the porridge in the morning. The residence is every bit as magical as in the photos and then some!
Review 26:A minor point - we were there in July so it was hot - we did struggle a bit because there was no air conditioning in the seating area. It was fine though in our rooms and in the dining room.
Review 27:The warm welcome from Elias and Tatiana, the unique location and atmosphere, the breakfast. It's right up there with the best places we've ever stayed.
Review 28:Almost everything
Review 29:It is definitely an experience to remember. The staff was very friendly and the proximity to the Jordan river makes this an unique place!
Review 30:The peacefulness
Review 31:Excellent personal attention and informative guidance
Review 32:Friendly Staff Free Wifi
Review 33:We were there the same say as the Pope so we couldn't check in until after 9pm. It's a little far from anything else. Not many people were awake in the morning. We had to find someone to check us out.
Review 34:Nice facilities, the hostess was very friendly and helpful and gave us a quick tour. It's inside the Baptism site so you have access to the river Jordan to swim (only during the day!) and to see the historic sites.
Review 35:Elias and the Russian pilgrims have a coordinated approach meant to deliver a true experience of the baptism site according to Russian Church that is a direct descendant of the original Byzantine Orthodox church. The site is solidly built to quality Russian specs. The breakfast and dinner experiences are almost a fantasy world of Russian-dressed staff serving their flavors using local ingredients in a manner designed to open the guest's appetite. The price value for the experience is very favorable. Nam s mujem ochen ponravilos eto mesto, priroda, arhitektura zdaniya sozdayut oshushenie kak budto ti v Rossii. Zavtrak i ujin bili fantasticheskimi. Vsem rekomenduyu ostanovit v etom meste, tak kak eto idealnoe mesto dlya semey s detmi i dlya par
Review 36:The place is no good for those who don't rent cars. The taxis are extremely expensive (up to 50 American dollars a ride) as the hotel is located in the middle of a desert. Unless you come with the religious purposes only it is going to be really pricy for you to travel around.
Review 37:Enjoyed the breathtaking atmosphere of the holy places. The staff is friendly, sincere and merciful. A perfect site to begin your connaisance with wonderful and yet mysterious Jordan.
Review 38:Internet access was limited due to low quality signal.
Review 39:Friendly and supportive personal, good food, neat and clean. Facilities are good and comfortable.
Review 40:All was very good
Review 41:The location itself is something amazing. It is just in front of theriver Jordan and the Baptism site. Excellent place for peaceful stay andmeditation. There are several monasteries around. Personnel was veryfriendly, food was great and abundant. Hotel can organise for you aguided tour around. Places to see in walking distance: Jesus Baptismsite, cave of John the Baptist, cave of Elijah, several churches.
Review 42:The residence was perfect. The breakfast and dinner were excellent and very well priced. The staff was wonderful. The wifi was faster than my high speed internet at home. And the location is simply the best.
Review 43:No mention of the JD12 per person site entrance fee on the website at time of booking, difficult to find, evening meal perfectly edible but not great value at JD11 per person
Review 44:Attentive manageress, unusual but beautiful location on bank of River Jordan
Review 45:Not that I didn't like it, but be aware that it will be somewhat intensive to get here and, once here, would be easier to stay put for the duration then to leave and come back, especially after 6pm. But don't let that stop you! I'm hoping to head back soon, with my husband.
Review 46:Stunning building next to the Jordan River. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Food is great. Pasha the cat is sweet. Calm, peaceful, and quiet.
Review 47:A perfect place for a meditation trip, to spend Holy holidays and enjoy peace and friendly atmosphere. Wish that only people with these travel aims keep coming here, cause now it's really a magic place
Review 48:Lack of service when luggage has to be transported to the room.
Review 49:Wonderful location at the Jordan River.
Review 50:If you want to stay a night at Bethany Beyond Jordan this is it but you need your own transport. Is fairly new.
Review 51:Access to taxis
Review 52:The peaceful, serene environment. Excellent Staff (Julieta and Yazen were friendly and so helpful).
