Reviews for Sanctuary Hotel Luang Prabang

Review 1:One of the rooms had a rather damp smell. Opening the windows and doors to the balcony helped though.

Review 2:The reception staff were wonderful and answered all our questions. They happily arranged tours and transport for us, and even had the tuk tuk driver take us to the hospital and find the doctor for us when one of our party got sick. They continued to show concern the following days. The location close to the night markets was perfect and it was easy to get around. This hotel really was a sanctuary in the centre of town.

Review 3:Our room suffered from alot of noise coming from the streetfront, rooms in the back are better. No screens on the Windows to prevent mosquitoes from coming in the room.

Review 4:Beautiful garden courtyard around a lotus blossom filled pond. The layout and the attention to the design of hotel make it a lovely place to stay.

Review 5:Bathroom was awkward -- no shower door or curtain meant water sprayed everywhere during a shower; no complimentary conditioner, body lotion or vanity packages provided, which is expected of a hotel in this price range; breakfast selection was limited (chicken sausage and/or cheeses would be nice) and the coffee was TERRIBLE.

Review 6:Peaceful location, friendly staff, spacious room with relatively comfortable bed

Review 7:- breakfast no meat - bidet shower is not proper to use (hard to press & in the left hand side) - hotel should provide 'sticky rice' for give food offering to the monk like gimmick activity

Review 8:- service mind of both of staff & manager - good location - nice room & hotel design

Review 9:Breakfast was good but the choice was limited and felt a bit repetitive after several days

Review 10:Beautiful setting, clean rooms, friendly staff, fairly close to the centre

Review 11:Rooms are poor quality: the sheets/towels are worn down, the beds are lumpy and uncomfortable, the shower room is old looking (although hot and powerful). The grounds have a lovely-looking pond in the middle which is a mosquito breeding ground. The rooms have wooden doors leading to a private balcony, but that just lets all the mosquitos in! The cleaning staff always left these doors open, which was very poor security and inconsiderate with regards to bugs etc.

Review 12:Complimentary water everyday (sometimes more than once a day). Grounds and buildings are beautiful. Location is close enough to night market and main streets, by far away enough to be quiet. Staff are helpful and nice when prompted. Rooms are cleaned multiple times a day.

Review 13:Wonderful breakfast, clean comfy rooms and helpful staff. You get great value but at the cost of a 10 minute walk to where the action is - which was fine for us. For shorter stays you may want to be closer to the river.

Review 14:Big pond in the middle that served no purpose except to attract Miskitos and make it difficult to navigate the hotel. An attractive small swimming pool would actually make this hotel a sanctuary.

Review 15:Nice hotel but with little atmosphere and did not have the feeling of being a Sancturary.

Review 16:I wish they could have given me some tips on what to do during my time there. I asked and their advice wasn't very helpful. Wifi didn't work very well, but they said it was because they were having troubles with their service provider. It was pretty expensive and I expected better service.

Review 17:It was a nice place. Pretty grounds with the lotus pond. Staff was nice. Clean. Quiet.

Review 18:Breakfast was good but I think if they added one or two items for variety during a guests stay it would be better

Review 19:Very pretty garden with a lotus pond. The staff was excellent. Good location.

Review 20:This property is a rising star in Luang Prabang. The hotel scores highly in cleanliness, location and atmosphere, .staff friendliness and assistance, auxiliary services and food. On offer is first class luxury at budget prices.

Review 21:All perfect

Review 22:The hotel was fantastic. The facilities, staff, comfort were all faultless. The staff were caring and professional, food delightful and ambience was perfect. We would highly recommend this hotel as a "must stay" place in Luang Prabang. Nothing was too much trouble for staff and management. A great experience that enhanced our stay. Loved it.

Review 23:The air-con didnt work properly, it was either freezing cold or super hot.. The wifi was quite lousy, but from what we understand, it's a problem in all hotels in Luang Prabang. They charged additional 3% because we paid with a credit card, but our bill was over 300$, so it was kind of annoying and a little unacceptable in our opinion (we stayed in 2 other hotels in Laos - in vientianne and vang vieng - and since we paid a lot per night, they didnt charge any additional fee...).

Review 24:The hotel was nice and the location was great for our needs. There was one receptionist that was really great, unfortunately we didn't ask for her name. Helped us with many things and always with a smile! The room was clean and they make it twice a day, which is nice.

Review 25:Breakfast! Beds could be more comfortable.

Review 26:Stuff was very nice. Very clean, big rooms. Decoration was very good. Green and natural look everywhere in the hotel

Review 27:No complaints at all

Review 28:Beautiful hotel, tranquil atmosphere, delicious breakfast and friendly and helpful staff. We had an early evening flight and the staff allowed us to stay in our room until 4pm.

Review 29:There was a weird smell of a poo in our room which didn't go away.

Review 30:Good location - 5 minutes to the night market and the main street where all the restaurants/bars are. Staff was also friendly and helped organizing a trip to Kuang Si waterfall and booking taxis for us. Quite a nice breakfast.

Review 31:Beds are not really comfortable. Repeatable breakfast. Hotel is localised very close to the street, so sometimes you can hear car/bike noise.

Review 32:Great localisation (5 min walking distance to Night Market and Old Town), nice staff, good breakfast (although we stayed there for 6 days and everyday it was the same). Good quality for price (although keep in mind that it's not 5*hotel).

Review 33:Only reccendation (although it's not common anywhere in this area) is to get a real espresso machine instead of filtered coffee.

Review 34:This hotel set the standards for our entire trip through Laos and thailand! The hotel is absolutely lovely, the garden, the spacious and clean rooms (was cleaned twice a day)... The location is superb, the breakfast is rich and tasty and the staff is unbeatable, especially the restsurant's manager that even though it wasn't his job, gave us great recommendations and helped us arrange day trips for a very reasonable price. Excellent value for money, highly recommended!

Review 35:Though we knew there wasn't one, a pool would have been nice. (Hot season).

Review 36:Comfortable, clean room, balcony. Though just outside the old town near a busy road it was quiet. 5 mins walking to night market and a few minutes more to the old town. Friendly, helpful staff

Review 37:5 min walk from the night market and everything else you need. Oasis, quite and laid back. Very helpful staff with airport pickup and everything else you may need.

Review 38:Nothing, although breakfast lacks variety but it was tasty. Also try get tours in the town could be cheaper

Review 39:Few minutes walk to town, room's balcony overlooking lily pond makes a nice chill out area, the overall compound area, helpful staff

Review 40:The breakfast was pool, the choices were very little and they didn't refill after the food was finished so you have to be early to have more food.

Review 41:Location was good and close enough to the night market and bike rental

Review 42:Roomy room, functioning everything. Get the hair dryer from reception, it's a big one. Breakfast had a wide range of yummy food, staff are friendly and helpful

Review 43:Everything was great.

Review 44:This Hotel has an idyllic garden with a nice restaurant. Our room was very clean and spacious and we enjoyed the nice atmosphere of this great accomodation. The staff was very helpful and nice. The breakfast buffet was very delicious.

Review 45:having to leave

Review 46:As soon as we set foot into the Sanctuary Hotel we were stuck by a peaceful feeling despite being only a few minutes from the heart of Luang Prabang. Everything about this hotel was excellent - particularly the staff and the breakfast.

Review 47:Its not really quiet at daytimes due to the location near to a main road.

Review 48:Nice courtyard. Design of the rooms and the whole place. Friendly staff. Good breakfast.

Review 49:Just that the 2nd day the breakfast was not "A la carte". Also some mosquitoes but they spray everyday.

Review 50:Everything except the shower : looks cheap and not convenient.

Review 51:Lovely setting in easy access to everything. Staff were very helpful and caring, always happy and smiling. Wifi OK. A wonderful experience in wonderful location.

Review 52:No bad experience only downfall was lack of wardrobe space and not a lot of choice on the dinner menu but this didn't matter as other restaurants within walking distance.

Review 53:The setting was beautiful. The staff were very friendly. Loved sitting overlooking the pond. Breakfast was good. We were met at the airport for transport to the hotel which was unexpected at a small charge. Within short walking distance of night market, local shops, Mekong & Nam Khan River.

Review 54:Toilet door knob came off Cheaper to hail a tuk-tuk outside to the Falls than to engage the hotel travel services.

Review 55:Peaceful, tranquil and quiet despite close proximity to night market, rental shops and spa. Clean linen and towels. One of the best hotel breakfast settings was outdoors by the lotus pond. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 56:Changed into Superior room although I booked Deluxe room.

Review 57:There stay very clever staff. However, they are not helpful. Please take care not to be deceived. Thank you!!

Review 58:The room smelt like dirty water because of the bathroom. The transport they provide us to the airport was very expensive, but the worst thing they didn't mentioned the day before was that the transport was a tuk-tuk open....at 5:30 am, with cold weather.....wasn't very good. The check out was too long because the guy didn't know how to use the machine for the credit card. the breakfast

Review 59:Location close to center but away enough to be very quite. . Garden and restaurant very cozy. The breakfast was good but not too many choices.

Review 60:Our room at ground level was not soundproof. Only two towels in bathroom, could use two smaller ones too. Synthetic bedding.

Review 61:Excellent staff. Warm welcome. Clean rooms for the most part. WiFi was problematic at times but that's a local issue.

Review 62:Noisy room in the same building as the lobby: close to the road with windows that still leave a gap when closed, and noise from the lobby.

Review 63:Nice hotel buildings and lotus pond in the courtyard. Good breakfast, nice staff.

Review 64:Door lock not properly closable.

Review 65:Very nice setting, quite set off road. Outdoor breakfast, although it was a little bit cold when we were there. Good service and helpful staff. Location with a short walk to the main street, spacious room with small terasse.

Review 66:I missed a better light above the sink besides that nothing;))

Review 67:The people were always helpfull and smiling which made everything so nice and easy during our stay. i can recommend the place with warmth love it there...

Review 68:nothing other than that we were not able to extend our stay as they did not have a room available ...

Review 69:nice clean rooms in beautiful setting, friendly staff. excellent breakfast buffet. located in walking distance to the city center. good wifi (also in the room).

Review 70:I had to sit out on the balcony to get wifi

Review 71:The rooms all surround a lovely, well maintained garden Breakfast The terrace outside the room The staff are all lovely There's a turndown service We got a Christmas present

Review 72:I was ... a bit dissapointed the staff did not inform me that they can prepare a breakfast to go, when checking out early... unpleasantly surprised by the cost for laundry, which I should have checked in advance... If you pay by a Credit Card, they charge extra 3% which is not terrible, just feel this shouldbe states in the booking info. Theseare just small things that can not spoil the time I had

Review 73:Breakfast Spacious and clean rooms Proximity to the night market and mekong st.

Review 74:We recently stayed 2 nights In a room on the lower level. one of the nights was a little noisy from other guests above!

Review 75:Great location, clean, staff were pleasant, breakfast okay.

Review 76:Limited wifi meant it wasn't possible to send pictures home. Just needed to remind them about the 'free' water on our first day.

Review 77:Staff were generally very helpful. Breakfast was very good and offered a wide range. Central area featured pretty large pond next to breakfast and dining area. Close enough to walk to the main sites in the town. Very fair value for money. Loads of local choice for eating as well as hotel's own restaurant.

Review 78:One day there were many (a dozen) mosquitoes in the room. Breakfast good but basic and unchanging day to day.

Review 79:Relaxing environment, helpful enthusiastic staff. Clean and comfortable rooms. When mentioned wifi was painful with multiple devices, manager helpfully increased device limit for our login.

Review 80:The street noise - but that was kind of expected.

Review 81:Great breakfast with fresh pancakes, crepes and noodle soup, very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful gardens and restaurant area.

Review 82:Cannot think of anything negative!

Review 83:The Sanctuary is a lovely hotel with very comfortable rooms. The setting is particularly wonderful considering how central the location is. The staff is very helpful and friendly. It is certainly value for money. Would definitely stay again.

Review 84:Breakfast buffet has very little choice. The staff in general is a bit sleepy.

Review 85:Amazing place a wonderful experience. The manager shows a unique attention to the customer needs.

Review 86:Spotty wi-fi. Restaurant staff were very friendly, but did not always understand my requests.

Review 87:Spacious, clean, well designed. Aircon does not blow directly on to bed. Veranda was great for ready on a rainy day. Could not find better value for money in Luang Prabang. Convenient location, but quiet as rooms are well off the street

Review 88:Lovely and well-designed hotel, very convenient location, just about five minutes walking from the night market and the riverside bar street. The breakfast was delicious, and staff in the restaurant were also nice and helpful.

Review 89:Wi-fi only worked on the verandah,.

Review 90:We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sanctuary Hotel. The rooms were spacious and very clean. The staff were friendly and very attentive, we were made to feel very welcome. The breakfast was just right, we had crepes which were very good. The hotel is close to the night market and we would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the beautiful town of Luang Prabang.

Review 91:The wifi never worked on my iPhone. No biggie - JoMa Cafe was nearby and the wifi worked there. Probably due to the idiosyncratic way they have to connect at this hotel.

Review 92:Superb location in this lovely town, right across from the Aman Hotel and 5 minutes from the enchanting Night Market. Comfortable room and delicious breakfast. Friendly staff even if their English is limited.

Review 93:Beautiful relaxing environment. Restaurant served delicious meals. Close to night markets and restaurants.

Review 94:- Great staff: they let us checked in at 11am when we arrived -Very nice breakfast every morning in the garden.
