Reviews for Blue Hills Motel

Review 1:It was a bit untidy due to renovation but we stayed only one night, so did not hear any noise. It would be good if they had a few chairs in the reception to sit while waiting.

Review 2:Walking distance to Salamanca, very convenient.

Review 3:Noisy - the large gap under the door meant it was like having a room in the reception. We could hear everything. We could not take the offered upper room as there was no means to get our cases up the external stairway. We had already hauled them from street level. Despite being a 'motel' the street frontage has large number of steps - our taxi arriving used his satnav and dropped us & our heavy cases there. Nothing in the hotel points this out. Until you get there..... It's also being renovated while still open. Sign says you are not held to your booking, again a bit late notice on that. Chinese staff cannot have been well briefed as they tried to get into our room next morning.

Review 4:1. Vanity is very dirty (I never seen such dirty vanity in any hotels); The whole vanity wasn't designed properly, the water kept coming out doesn't matter how do you used it carefully, and the water dropping out from the edge of bench and wetted into the toilet paper (because the toilet paper roll is hanging up at side of vanity. 2. Both of our bath rooms are small without shower contains, the water come out from shower area, wet the floor, toilet paper and toilet… 3. It seems the cleaner hasn't got proper training. We only stayed in the motel for 3 nights: 1st day check-in we found the vanity was very dirty, and table was greasy; 2nd day the cleaner left one of our room door opening after visit the room; 3rd day the cleaner left some dirty towels outside of our doors and gone when we come back around 7:00pm ...

Review 5:Very friendly, helpful and nice reception staff; Good location; Good view.

Review 6:carpet grubby, windows old and one didn't open. Renovations in the main building, 8am minibus movement and noise every day.

Review 7:the view of Mt Wellington and the barracks. location in Battery Point, easy walk to interesting places

Review 8:dirty kitchen, fridge not working properly, dirty carpet and lounge (had to cover with a blanket), dirty windows, housekeeping didn't speak english.

Review 9:location, friendly receptionist, compfy bed, new bathroom, car space

Review 10:Rang 8-10 times from morning to evening to talk with staff for 9 pmcheck in as website said reception closed at 7, another site said 8 andour booking confirmation said 9....no answer, no messagebank no emaildetail on site. Room was dirty, dusty with sticky doorknobs handles etcand sticky carpet!! A single sheet covered the well used mattress and wefelt "dirty" in the room and our skin crawled in the bed. Wegot our picnic blanket from the car and slept on that. In all was $25-30cheaper than woolstore and others - go elsewhere! Went to pay for our 2nights $214 and thought I would see what reception would say...not athing.. No thank you, no was your room ok? No was everything fine? Sheprovided embarrassed silence and a common feeling of being dudded orripped off - a service paid for in good faith and not provided. Wedon't mind old but do draw the line at grotty.

Review 11:The location.... Walking distance to Salamanca and town

Review 12:The room is very spartan. There are no pictures on the wall and the paint scheme is tired ( unfair, the motel is being redecorated). It is old fashioned, all outside stairs and passageways. But it was safe and legal accommodation on a cold and stomy night.

Review 13:The location was very close to the Salamanca market district .

Review 14:Initial impression was it looked like a mish mash of buildings together. Major renovations were happening at the time, when we drove into the carpark there was a load of rubbish in the carports. It was really difficult to find reception. There were no lifts. The whole place looked like it hadn't been renovated in 2-3 years. Some of the electrics in the room were questionable. I do hope the new owners do a great job renovating the place and clean the windows.

Review 15:The person who checked us in was good, when we asked to get the room changed there was no hesitation. The location was closer than we expected to Hobart. It was close to Hobart and Sandy Bay

Review 16:walking distance to the theatre. Reception staff very helpful. Rooms fairly basic but clean. We were only there for one night, but we would have been happy to stay there longer. Good value.

Review 17:We had an apartment and it was quite roomy and comfortable. The staff friendly and helpful. We also had undercover parking which is only available foe apartments.

Review 18:Security is definitely an issue! Another guest was able to open our room door by mistake while we were inside presumably using the keys given to her for another room! Very very poor furnishings. It's like taking a step back into the 70's only much worse! Room carpet is a temporary second-hand overlay (I didn't dare to look/imagine what was underneath). The shower area is tiny without any shower curtain to stop the water from going everywhere. All furniture (bed, beside table, wardrobe) would probably be rejected by the Salvos if they were given to them.

Review 19:The only saving grace of this motel is its location.

Review 20:The room was filthy and the noise from the other guests went on until all hours of the night. The door did not seal properly so we had light coming in from the hallway. Shower screen in the bathroom would have been a plus and would save the floor being covered with water

Review 21:Nothing

Review 22:Horrible Internet....very bad range converted disconnected hundreds of times. Almost as fast as Dial-Up with an allowance of 400mb only. Disgusting

Review 23:The view from our room in the back simply amazing

Review 24:room old and rough. loose tap constant running toilet and shower head. tables unstable wind coming under door. General condition of room old, worn and tired nothing like photos of rooms or building grounds

Review 25:location

Review 26:Steep stairs up to the second floor and to have to carry large bags up, especially if we are not young.

Review 27:Close proximity to Salamanka Markets and the wharf area , all within walking distance

Review 28:Room was not cleaned properly the entire time I was there. Had to virtually make the bed myself. Toilet and shower not cleaned at all. I think maybe they vacuumed, that's it. Extractor fan for bathroom didn't work, neither did the hairdryer. "Free wifi" had a limit of 400mgs. - you could get another code, but this was a hassle.

Review 29:Good location, easy to walk to all the attractions in Hobart.

Review 30:The room was a little dated and tacky, however was very clean and value for money.

Review 31:The location in hobart was very close to salamanca place which proved to be extremely helpful. The rooms were very affordable and provided all the facilities that we needed for our 3 night stay.

Review 32:The place was actually falling apart. It was disgusting and I would never recommend anyone to stay there

Review 33:Beautiful view - although I think we had the only room that had views

Review 34:Great accessibility to Salamanca markets as well as restaurants and cafes. Owner was extremely helpful and went above and beyond to ensure out comfort at the hotel.

Review 35:No one is at the front desk. My friend who went there to check in around 10 am have to wait for half an hour at the front desk counter. No one was there only loud music that was playing. By 8 pm the front desk will be unstaffed. a few of the electrical appliances wasn't working for example the toilet exhaust fan, the microwave and the high dryer.

Review 36:Personally for me the location was good. we stayed in the one bedroom apartment and we can see the beautiful view of Sandy Bay

Review 37:Building, rooms and bathrooms are clean but tired and in need of attention

Review 38:Short term travel plan meant we had trouble securing a room on required dates. Room rate was reasonable value based on room/motel quality

Review 39:The room looks cheap and old, very small carpark which is very hard to find ( wouldn't go well with anyone with a large car), room had no microwave, bathroom had a bandaid thing covering a hole in the ceiling

Review 40:Close to shops, bedding was clean

Review 41:Other furniture old and shabbyNo place for luggage but floor. Shower temperature near impossible to adjust. Internet system primitive and slow. Halls particularly dirty.

Review 42:Beds, parking, location.

Review 43:Could do with more cooking equipment eg. an oven tray.

Review 44:The apartment was light and airy because of floor to ceiling windows offering good views. The location was fabulous, walking distance to shops, Battery Point and Salamanca. Also liked the undercover car park.

Review 45:There are a few things that needed repairs in the room we stayed in, but they are in the process of renovating the rooms so this should solve that

Review 46:This motel is in a great locatin within easy walking distance to the Salamanca Markets and the city centre, and is in a very quiet location also

Review 47:Parking was a problem with limited spaces. We had reserved parking under our unit but someone parked in our spot one night.

Review 48:the location was good as it was a short walk to Salamanca Place. The CBD in Hobart was not far away.

Review 49:Very low budget motel standard on a NOT very low cost. Would not recommend this motel to anyone. The worst I've stayed in.

Review 50:The only thing going for this place is how close it is to Salamanca Place.

Review 51:The drain in the vanity was black....need to get some Bam gel guys! Plus around the vanity and the top of the cistern was dirty. There was no shower curtain and the lip around the shower was inadequate. The bathroom got very wet. SO many holes in the walls where things have been removed and the holes not patched.......very shabby. Pillows could have been better....2 equaled one decent pillow. Towels were very thin. The flooring was a worry....there appeared to be holes under the carpet!

Review 52:The location. The bedlinen was lovely.

Review 53:Filthy shower bay, no soap holder in shower, dirty tiles on bathroom floor. Could do with better lighting in the lounge area. Difficult to find entrance to motel as it's not on the same street as the listed address.

Review 54:Close to eateries. Rooms are large enough (just needs a good reno to give it a value for money rating).

Review 55:It was very old and dated I wore my thongs in the shower, could hear everything from next door and my husband thought there was a dance studio upstairs it eas so noisy

Review 56:Entrance to car park was at the rear off Crellin street and was difficult to find even with GPS. Cooking utensils a bit limited..

Review 57:Quiet with parking and close to waterfront which was 5 minutes walking distance.as were.plenty of eateries and supermarkets .

Review 58:Ancient unclean able bathroom...mould. Virtually no one available to help with problems. Office not always open in specified hours. Many stairs.

Review 59:Very close to Salamanca Pl , restaurants and in an interesting area.

Review 60:Broken powerpoints, bathroom fan/light unservicable, wardrobe door u/s, intermittent digital TV reception, Sky TV unwatchable, no shower screen/curtain, bathroom primitive and grubby, toilet would not flush properly

Review 61:Location - handy to everything, room was clean, bed comfortable, access good

Review 62:we arrived late but owner waited for us... very courteous service, clean quiet room, grey bed, all the necessary comfort for a good price... Thank you:)

Review 63:room was obviously run down and tatty. Needs much renovation work..

Review 64:room was clean and comfy, great views over Sandy Bay and close to shops and Salamanca. Overall good stay.

Review 65:Blue Hills is very tired. Possibly new owners trying to tidy it up but a coat of paint won't cut the mustard. It needs a massive, massive overhaul. Our room had a broken louvre window in bathroom, no door handle on vanity, signs of deterioration on vanity. Room carpet 40 years old, very basic room patched up. Road noise from Sandy Bay Rd.

Review 66:Very friendly staff, bed comfortable and room as clean as it could be. Value for money at $99 per night for 3 nights I suppose. Would rather pay extra and stay at Woolmers down the road.

Review 67:Weak wifi signal Place very kitch....but becoming quite drab and run down

Review 68:Janet at front counter went out of her way to assist find a doctor for my partner

Review 69:poor parking. a very bad scary experience with another customer. this man was verbally abusive because we had taken his parking spot even though we were assured by reception staff that if our spot was taken we could park anywhere. after offering to move our car this nsw tourist backed his Mercedes up to the back of our car and stated that we weren't going anywhere and refused to let us out. parking was limited and because of this we will never return. the manager was very understanding and did try to resolve our problem with the not so nice man

Review 70:great location with close proximity to salamanca market, and good dining in the city.

Review 71:The car parking arrangements are off a side street at the back of the motel. It was a little hard to find at first.

Review 72:The location was close to everything. We could walk to Salamanca Place quite easily although the walk back up the hill was difficult for me.

Review 73:Our room was on the 3rd floor and we had to climb the steps on the outside of building everyday. No Lift. No Airconditioning, shower would fill up and cover your feet when showering drain didn't drain(disgusting). Room was very average. No windows to open. Car spaces were very limited. NO mini bar.Tired and outdated

Review 74:The closesness to things, but you would have to be a mountain goat to walk to any of the places nearby

Review 75:All OK, bathroom a bit dated but no roblems

Review 76:The rooms at the back of the motel were very quiet and you could walk into town from that position in 15 mins DOWNHILL BEST TO GET A CAB BACK IN YOU DONT LIKE HILLS

Review 77:Needs a good update, stairs are horrible, there was a kettle very hard to put water in it .bathroom needs a karcher put on tiles to clean .

Review 78:Sunny room , clean, bed was comfortable

Review 79:Second time we've stayed a Blue Hills & for the price the one bedroom apartments are great value. Love the elevation and views. Love the location. Decor is nothing flash & shower could do with a re-grouting but it serves it's purpose & our stay was everything we hoped for.

Review 80:most rooms have old furniture in them, but Hobart is a very old place, and suits the motel. Bed very comfortable

Review 81:walking distance to markets on Saturday, and wharf, close to casino $8 taxi fare

Review 82:Bathroom is filthy and needs a major renovation. Grout mouldy in shower. Shower head fell off Pipes under sink look terrible Toilet cistern crooked and looks like fitted by a blind person. This hotel owner must use a man to do cleaning and must not like spending any money on maintenance at all!! Definitely not what you expect from a hotel over $100 per night. Acceptable only as a backpacker or pub room sub $50/night Carpet on stairs worn through - the list goes on

Review 83:Good location Comfortable bed - very old though. Free Parking - for about 6-8cars though.. View from room was ok..

Review 84:Very mishmash room...needed a thorough clean and a decent coat of paint. Not to mention the bedhead timbers left attached and unpainted to the walls, when beds had obviously been removed. The bathroom was very dirty and I could not take a shower until I cleaned it myself. Had to buy product. Staff need instructions on cleaning behind toilets and doors! Parking very limited. Would not go again because for just a small amount more you could get better close by.

Review 85:The bed was very comfortable. The location excellent and there were good views. Which did not make up for the downsides.........

Review 86:Even though it is an old motel it should still have a clean bathroom. The shower recess, wash basin and toilet all needed a cleaning with bleach.dont think it had been thoroughly cleaned in a long time

Review 87:Linen clean

Review 88:See above

Review 89:A 15min walk to the city or port meant a very convenient location. However on arrival the apartment was disgusting. Bathroom and kitchen both filthy. Staff eventually gave it a good clean after 2 days. Kitchen facilities were terrible and we couldn't even use the oven. Overall we were very disappointed but happy with the location.

Review 90:our covers where stained, pillows were a little uncomfortable, shower water in our room changed constantly, flys would come in from the bathroom window

Review 91:good location, friendly staff, nice view, good sunlight in room. comfortable room

Review 92:Rooms need really good vacuuming and dusting as they did 4 years ago Electric blanket on upside down room 16 check it

Review 93:Generally bedding was clean and comfortable Location excellent

Review 94:Hard to find, some things ( floor coverings etc.) are getting old and tired, could do with a bit of renovating.

Review 95:Hotel is tidy and comfortable, on the main road close to the city. Room was warm and plenty iof light.

Review 96:The bedding and towels were of good quality but one tap in the shower was loose (although repaired after reporting it). The motel seems a little dusty and neglected.

Review 97:The location is convenient and good for walking.

Review 98:Stairs. And lots of them. Place wasn't clean I don't think it or the stairs had been vacuumed in a long time, the shower recess was so small the whole bathroom got wet, the basin tap was lose and leaked, underneath was dirty and rusty. Hated it there.

Review 99:Nothing.

Review 100:Tiny bathroom dirty tile grout, no shower screen so water goes everywhere, handbasin tap very lose, old soft bed and no smoke alarm in room. Number of holes in bathroom walls and ceiling where things had been ripped out!

Review 101:Clean sheets, towels, hot water.

Review 102:Nothing that I really didn't like, but motel is a bit tired. Some repair work on the wardrobe was rough.

Review 103:Easy walking distance to Salamanca and city.

Review 104:The views from the top floor are incredible! We stayed in room 24 andhad a beautiful view of Mt Wellington and from the balcony we could seethe ocean. We also locked ourselves out of our room at 10.30pm and thedelightful young chap from reception had to drive from his home back tothe hotel. He smiled and was really very understanding when he turnedup...wonderful service!

Review 105:This establishment is very dated and could do with some renovations. We had booked in for three days but stayed one. The room we had was like a refrigerator. The wall heater is totally inadequate to even warm the room. We switched the heater on when we arrived and went out for the day. On arriving back at about 6pm the room was still cold. They supplied an additional heater which did nothing to improve the situation. The bathroom reminded me of a meat locker and the following morning we noticed ice on the inside of the window. The bathroom has a fan/light/heater fitted but only the light and fan worked. The room was so cold that we were in bed by 7pm with the electric blanket on high. Room had gaps around the windows and in the frames and were dirty. There were dead insects on the floor and it appeared the it had not been cleaned for quite sometime. As for the breakfast, this was adequate although the glasses supplied for the juice were dirty. There is no way known that we will stay there again and we could not in all good conscience recommend it to any one.

Review 106:The location of this motel is ideal for visiting Battery Point, Salamaca Place and the city centre. The view to Mt Wellington was great.

Review 107:Cold! It is Hobart but neither of the two heaters really helped very much. The lack of wine glasses were also slightly disappointing.

Review 108:The kitchen unit while small was more than sufficient for my news and the location is great. There is plenty of space to unpack and spread out

Review 109:Scalding water temperature just needs turning down a tad for safety. Kettle didn't fit under tap but that covers 99% of all hotels...! Broken luggage rack. Only 2 coat-hangers.

Review 110:Price - value for money. Convenient location to shops pubs, boatyard. Easy to park. Crisp white linen. Wonderful shower. View of the mountain. Friendly staff.

Review 111:Room 12 Very ordinary - needs a make-over Bathroom OK, but could hear water in drain from next room. It's not ideal, but I guess its an old place

Review 112:Great location, Easy access for car parking Staff very obliging Great value for money Ideal for single person

Review 113:The hotel does not have free WiFi as advertised. They give you 100mb per day which is ridiculous. Also, there is no central heating as advertised. The wash-rooms were mouldy and the hallway very dirty.

Review 114:Not much maybe location

Review 115:The location was excellent and the view spectacular. Only a short walk to Salamanca or the city, and the motel room itself was clean and comfortable. Aside from some relatively loud plumbing from showers in neighboring rooms, it suited our needs entirely.

Review 116:broken bathroom door Foxtel wouldn't work, no specific instructions, Reception unable top help at night. Water from shower went everywhere

Review 117:location easy parking friendly staff good value great beds clean linen, towels warm room

Review 118:The place was fine.

Review 119:This place is what it is. For the price I couldn't fault it. Staff were friendly, room was clean. The negative reviews of this place made me feel apprehensive, but I think they are exaggerated. Maybe the people who have left such harsh critiques are expecting luxury on a budget? Lower your expectations or spend more money elsewhere! Nothing wrong with this place.

Review 120:Very friendly staff

Review 121:beautiful harbour and mountainview from room and located centrally to Hobart CBD

Review 122:It can see the Hobart firework directly from the room outside.

Review 123:Very tired room. Uncomfortable bed, unusable iron, hair dryer did not work. Hazardous connection forv electric blanket

Review 124:Handy location

Review 125:The hotel room is too old and bath room & toilet is in bad condition

Review 126:Room is spacious

Review 127:Location... short walk to CBD and Salamanca

Review 128:Requires a refurbishment.

Review 129:building was being removated bathrooms were very poor standard - joining bathroom was not sound proof/all noises were heard.

Review 130:Convenient to Salamanca Market. Although undergoing renovation, it was quite clean.

Review 131:No flyscreens on the windows.

Review 132:Great location for Salamanca Place.

Review 133:Great spot. Bed was comfortable. Otherwise this property goes under the heading of 'basic'
