Reviews for Agriturismo Il Macchione
Review 1:Location as perfect and the rooms were large and comfortable. It was like a home away from home. I love the area - Pienza is one of my favorite towns in Tuscany.
Review 2:Very friendly hosts, Large and comfortable rooms, rich and excellent breakfast, close to Pienza and other attractions in Val D'Orcia, beautiful location. Highly recommended!
Review 3:The best place by far in our small roundtrip in Toscana due its charm, location (in the middle of the land, not far but not by the road) and the exceptional host. Francesco & his family were always much more than just helpful, they introduced us to the place, offered a lot of information and recommendations for places to visit, where to eat and, as final plus, we enjoyed a visit to the Oil Mill they own, including tasting olive oil. Room itself is very comfortable & big with all needs, really working Wifi and some warm Espresso when the sun sets!
Review 4:I had a fantastic time stayed at farm house Agriturismo Il Macchione early Oct. The owner and manager Francisco is fantastic! I booked the place the last min and it was pouring down raining on the day i arrived. Finding the farm house at 9pm in the rain was rather challenging but Francisco was very patient waited for me and offered to pick me up from the town centre and settled me in a nice, warm, spacious one bedroom apartment. He was also very helpful with tourism information and place to eat etc. The estate is absolutely beautiful to wake up on the next morning..and the whole team there is very warm, friendly. Beautiful homemade buffet breakfast with a lot to choose from to start the morning. I really loved every single moment of my time there wished could stay a bit longer. This place is definitely the place to stay for anyone who visits Tuscany. Highly highly recommend. Vivian

Review 6:The Agriturism is situated in a beautiful setting just outside of Pienza. The grounds are stunning with amazing views of the countryside. The apartment was fully equipped and the owners made it even better by stocking the apartment with wine, beers, olive oil all at a very reasonable price. The owners of the property are the loveliest people and they own an olive mill which was in full action during our stay at the end of October so we managed to buy the fresh olive oil directly from them. Absolutely delicious! The breakfasts were great as well with options of both savory, including their own salami, and various home baked cakes, yogurt etc. The owners were also very accommodating and gave us tips on mountain bike routes in the region. They also provided us with a mattress topper as the beg was a little to hard for me. Would definitely stay again!
Review 7:Excellent location, quiet and peaceful, rustic yet elegant accommodations, and the views are amazing. The morning breakfast was delicious. Fresh fruit, Apple streudal, croissants, boiled eggs, yogurt, juice, simply the best. We had a lovely visit, and hope to return.
Review 8:Lovely homestead and the staff / owner was wonderful. Breakfast was amazing . We had a 2 bedroom apartment with full kitchen facility just wonderful
Review 9:The room and breakfast were fantastic. The views of the Tuscan countryside particularly at sunset were breathtaking. Good base for touring Tuscany although a little far but doable for Sienna and north.
Review 10:The WiFi was a bit weak in some parts of the the apartment but we understood that this was temporary...
Review 11:Perfectly located on a hill outside town, but 3 minutes drive to town (Pienza). Real Tuscan atmosphere. The apartment was very spacious and comfortable, with all the amenities you could think of, makes it perfect for cooking great meals with local products. We didn't try the pool due to weather, but it looks great, the view is awesome. The staff were really kind and helpful, giving us great recommendations. The breakfast was made of homemade, fresh and local products which we loved very much.
Review 12:expensive for accommodations. pool not heated. cockroaches. small shower and bathroom. very sweet breakfast.
Review 13:country location feel. short drive to pienza. cordial staff. large dining and gathering area.
Review 14:WiFi was sketchy but this wasn't the first place we had trouble.
Review 15:Very convenient and attractive property. The apartments were very roomy and well layed out. Great amenities. The pool is beautiful with a wonderful view.
Review 16:Really nothing but as there were 4 in our party 2 more cozy chairs in our sitting area would have been nice. This is a VERy moot point!!
Review 17:We were very comfortable and felt our hosts could not have been more helpful and/or welcoming! The breakfast was great and the facility beautiful!
Review 18:“Imagine a place where the fragrant air and the spectacle of playful swallows ease you into wakefulness each morning to greet the day.” A setting which you have dreamed of but never imagined it really existed. We stayed here for three days and would have liked to stay for another three weeks. After traveling for 2 months, lightly caressing cooling breezes during the hot days of September, with endless enchanting landscapes make this location perfect to refresh our body and mind. Breakfast always was a gastronomic sensation. Each morning there was a large variety of freshly baked and beautifully presented cakes, amongst a variety of other foods. The owners pride themselves in providing the best home-made cheeses, salamis and jams as well. The converted farm building is modern and attractively designed. The pictures attached tell their own story. The swimming pool overlooks a magic landscape. One could easily spend a hot day just relaxing in the shade, sipping their home made Fregoli Macchione Doc Orchia wine. It is superb on the palate with a well-balanced oak flavour and “einem guten Abgang”. We found Francesco and his father, to be enthusiastic, well informed and welcoming hosts.

Review 21:Nothing to complain about this place. we love eveyrthing there especially the hospitality of Francesco and his friend Janluca :). If you are lucky you will be invited to join the BBQ togehter with them. Breakfast was the best in the region. We strongly recommend and sure we will be back there someday with our baby. Thank you guys again
Review 22:Everything...Francisco and family are amazing hosts, the location is stunning and rooms are "classic" Tuscan style...and the pool has to be seen to be believed. Top this off with an amazing breakfast and you really need nothing else
Review 23:Very relaxing and pleasant environment. There was a feeling of family and the owners were very welcoming and helpful. The homemade breakfasts were delicious.
Review 24:An army of bugs liked the place as much as we did. Bug-hunter time par excellence. Sure something that can be fixed.
Review 25:Great place with great atmosphere. Nice breakfast buffet with home made goodies. Swimming pool, close to Pienza, amazing view, family run business. Tasty wine from their own production for only 5 Euros!!!
Review 26:It has wonderful swimming pool, but it is not maintained cleanly
Review 27:I can't forget the setset and nature around the hotel. that is the best part of my trip
Review 28:Accommodation was very comfortable and the rooms were well-equipped for self-catering (if desired). The breakfast provided was plentiful and lovingly prepared. The location was perfect!
Review 29:We enjoyed everything at Agriturismo Il Macchione. Francesco and family are very kind, friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. The breakfasts are wonderful and the home made cakes and panna cotta were enjoyed by everybody. The property was very clean and beautifully maintained with a wonderful infinity swimming pool, pretty gardens and stunning views of the Tuscan countryside. The weather was extremely hot during our stay but we were able to cope due to the excellent air conditioning in our apartment. We are already planning our next stay. Molto Grazie
Review 30:It was a beautiful property only 1.5 kilometers on the outskirts of Pienza. The apartment was clean, the pool refreshing and the proprietor very helpful.
Review 31:We love the beautiful view outside and nice house. Home made breakfast is fresh and cakes are delicious. It takes 5 min. driving to Pienza. We will visit here again next time.
Review 32:Very well location for trips to Siena, Monte Amiata, Montepulciano, Pienza. We enjoyed the splendid view during relaxation in the infinity pool. Very good breakfast with several home made sweets every morning.
Review 33:No privacy near the appartment, the only way out of the appartment is the door to the patio which is used by all guests. In order to relax you have to move to the garden. The location has the characteristic of a hotel: most guests stay only one night and than move forward, especially Chinese guests visiting both Siena and Florence in one day...
Review 34:Hospitality and kindness of the hosts, spectacular view from the beautiful garden and a lovely swimming pool. Well equipped kitchen. Good breakfast.
Review 35:Leaving such a perfect place and now working out plans to return one day!
Review 36:Francesco and his beautiful family were so welcoming, charming and helpful! The property was like a dream, comfort, convenience, great pool, unbelievable views!
Review 37:As we drove up the cyprus tree-lined driveway, we felt like we werestepping into the pages of a travel magazine. The medieval stonefarmhouse has been beautifully renovated and upgraded with all of theamenities. The location is like a dream, set in the rolling hills of theVal D'orcia--and let me tell you, there is nothing quite like a dipin the eternity pool at sunset, overlooking that view...SPECTACULAR!Stefano was there to meet us, and he and his family (who run the entireoperation of the agriturismo including the oil mill) were so friendly, helpful and accommodating. The room, bathroom and kitchen were spotlesslyclean, and Stefano gave us a beginner's guide to Pienza and somefantastic tips and recommendations. Pienza itself is only a 5 min driveaway--an exclusive entrance to the gorgeous medieval city! The breakfastwas absolutely phenomenal!! 10 kinds of homemade cakes, homemade pannacotta with local fruit, homemade jams, fresh eggs, focaccia, their ownmeats, cheese made on location and olive oil from their own mill. We"shopped" before we left, and took home olive oil, cheese andjam. Such an incredible, picture perfect stay. Would come back in aheartbeat!!
Review 38:We love this area of Tuscany for the central location, beautiful scenery, and amazing food and wine. The agriturismo was easy to find, had excellent communication, and superb facilities. The pool and amazing breakfast put it over the top. We wouldn't change a thing!
Review 39:Impeccable place, people, views and breakfast! Elegant rooms with all conveniences. Home made pastries are worth the stay. Franchesco and his father are gracious hosts.
Review 40:Nothing negative to say.
Review 41:Located in one of the most scenic areas in Tuscany, Il Macchione had the most comfortable bed of all the places we stayed. The breakfast was wonderful as was the staff. Francesco was warm and helpful could not have been a better host. We had the 2 bedroom apartment and it was great. It was clean and comfortable with big bedrooms and a large kitchen. The grounds are beautiful and inviting and the infinity pool overlooks a spectacular view of Tuscany. I only wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 42:The hotel is impressive. It's impossible to describe, you have to see! Stunning views of the valley of the river Orcia. Great base for exploring the area of Pienza. This is definitely the most beautiful area of Tuscany. You just have to go there!
Review 43:A bit slow, but usable internet.
Review 44:Family run guesthouse in countryside near to charming Pienza (on the way between Montalcino and Montepulciano). Very friendly and helpful manager, well maintained, comfortable and clean facilities, WiFi, nice breakfast. Excellent place to stay for visiting small villages and towns of most famous wine region of Italy.
Review 45:We were warmly welcomed and delighted with our apartment. We were treated like we were family, and the breakfast was absolutely amazing, with homemade cakes and panna cotta. We definitely will come again!
Review 46:Great location near Pienza, room spacious and cozy, very nice host family, breakfast was delicious with many choices of homemade bakery and cold-cut meats. Would like to come back again and spend more time here!
Review 47:What a gorgeous place, the house & property was right out of a magazine and the VIEW was phenomenal. Endless hills and greenery, so incredibly peaceful and serene. Very Quiet and relaxing and romantic. The pool was open even though it was April which we very much enjoyed. Francesco wasnt there when we arrived but we called and he was there within minutes. Parking was free and convenient on site, WIFI was quick and worked poolside as well. The GPS in the car couldnt locate the place but my husbands IPHONE Google Maps did, so there was no issue. Francesco made us cappuccinos in the morning with our breakfast. The town is 5mins away, very small, but with EPIC VIEWS. Worth the visit just for that.
Review 48:Nothing!
Review 49:If you're looking for an exclusive location close to Pienza and an aboundant breakfast with home made cakes and pies this is your place. The owner Francesco will take care of you and explain to you the history of the place.
Review 50:We are finicky Americans and we know it. We like our beds to be sleepable and our wifi to be available. That was true here -- but it was beside the point. Views were stunning. Location was serene and convenient. Owners were kind, knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and beyond lovely. It turned out we needed to print a museum ticket and they drove into town and back to help us. Oh and the breakfast is ridiculous. Fresh cakes cooked on premises every morning by a nonna who used to run a restaurant in town. Wow.
Review 51:This was our best stay experience when we travel in Italy. We all love every things here, clean, cozy, you can see beautiful Tuscany scene from room's window. Kitchen was full equipped, recommend to who want to cook some meal during stay. Breakfast was really great, Host and his son were friendly and helpful, I would definitely recommend here.
Review 52:nothing!
Review 53:The service, the location, the apartment was perfect for our stay and we loved the breakfast in the mornings before heading out on the roads. Francesco and his father were so helpful and kind. We can't wait to come back over the years :)
Review 54:Nothing.
Review 55:The room is enormous, comfortable and lovely. Great kitchen, with a free test bottle of the farm's cold press olive oil. Tried cooking with it, loved it. It is available for sale if you ask the owner. Francesco (owner) is a very helpful host. Ask him any questions, and he is very willing to answer them with extra tips that may come in handy. He will also give you a free tour of his oil-press factory. If you love pastries, you will love Francesco's mother's homemade cakes and pies for breakfast!
Review 56:- Friendly host who explains about the things to see and how to reach the scenic places to photograph. - Size and comfort of the apartment. - Convenient location in a beautiful setting and close to photographically interesting highlights. - Excellent breakfast.
Review 57:Beautiful property central to the many hill towns and Tuscan landscapes you see in the travel books. A short drive, 2 km, to the town of Pienza for dining options. Francesco was very nice and welcoming.
Review 58:The location is absolutely nice, 5 Km out of Pienza and surrounded by the most tipical Tuscany's landscape. The mini-apartment has been a wonderful surprise, structurally ancient styled but quite modern in furniture and really functional.
Review 59:I would say there's nothing that would have changed my choice had I known about it before. The only minor issue was a number of insects (mostly flies, which is strange for November) who have made their way to the room. After killing or throwing away these everything was fine. I'd also suggest putting some sort of coat rack/hanger at the entrance.
Review 60:Nice countyside place with pleasant views; Great breakfasts (I never put such things this high on my lists, but of all our hotels in Tuscany those here were the best); Pleasant owners ready to help; Short distance (I would say 15-20 minutes from Pienza). It should, however, be noted that on a rainy day you'd be better served by a car; Great huge rooms with all the amenities. In November as it's not the high season they're also great value for money; Nice base for exploring Val d'Orcia.
Review 61:If there was say a place in the world that I could go back to over and over again this would be it. The room, people and views were incredible. A homemade breakfast fit for a king is not to be missed. If you can get up before dawn and drive to Pienza and watch the sun come up over the Tuscany landscape, one of the most incredible views I've ever seen. Most of all don't miss the excellent wine.
Review 62:Our room on the ground floor was a bit dark and you can hear other guests in the next rooms but this was not so bad because their was an opera singer who sang really well!:) But they have to change a bed, it was really uncomfortable.
Review 63:Almost everything about this agriturismo was great! Breakfast with 9! homebaked cakes was outstanding, the pool with panoramic view, really nice and friendly owners and the place is really well located.
Review 64:Only disappointment was the bed which was very uncomfortable and far below standard compared to the other infrastructure.
Review 65:A beautiful place to stay with a delicious breakfast buffet and great hospitality.
Review 66:No view from the room, all rooms look into the courtyard and ours was next to the car park.
Review 67:Very helpful family run staff, superb location as long as you have a car (walk to Pienza along country roads), home cooked breakfast with lots of cake choice! Spacious apartment, very quiet bar some plumbing noise!
Review 68:Be aware if you're located on the bottom floor the rooms are a bit dark and you can hear other guests in the adjacent rooms. This however, is something which just comes as part and parcel of this kind of accommodation.
Review 69:A very friendly welcome awaited us with a complimentary bottle of homemade vino! Everything about this agriturismo was stunning and the rooms have been finished off beautifully. The pool setting with a panoramic view is like something out of a magazine and even though it wasn't heated (in September) I couldn't resist a morning swim to start the day. Breakfast is a feast of homebaked cakes and local products. It's conveniently located within walking distance to Pienza (take the back road behind the cemetery) but far enough you feel secluded. Surprisingly then that the WIFI connection is so unbelievably good! Felt really nice to be staying on a working farm with down to earth hosts and other friendly guests. Really wish we could have stayed longer. It made our honeymoon even more special for having chosen Il Macchione! Oh I almost forgot- the shower and bed were absolutely excellent too!
Review 70:On the first evening of our stay the wifi went down and wasn't back up till next morning. On a second day we found a pretty disgusting centipede in our room. I get that it's a farm area and there are plenty insects in the fields around the property, yet it was quite unpleasant.
Review 71:Location is hand-down awesome, right in the middle of Val d'Orcia with plenty of beautiful views around. There are a lot of small towns to visit in the vicinity, such as Pienza, Montepulciano, Montalchino, etc. The breakfast is plentiful and tasty. There's an outdoor pool and chill-out area, the property is clean. The owners are most friendly and welcoming. We got a bottle of local vine as a present on our arrival, and some home-made olive oil on our departure, which was great.
Review 72:Loved everything about this place
Review 73:Quality renovated traditional accommodation in an excellent location 2kms from town centre of Pienza. Fabulous pool and gardens, great views and delicious breakfasts. Francesco and his family are very friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us.
Review 74:We loved this place!!! Beautiful grounds, lovely pool and charming and comfortable farm house apartment. The breakfast buffet was yummy and had great variety with home-made cakes. Pienza was a great base to explore Tuscany - great food options and hill towns nearby.
