Reviews for Kamesei Ryokan
Review 1:great food recommend. wonderful around business circle. really friendly customer services helped me with transport pick up. Thank you all and happy new year.
Review 2:The traditional ryokan is located in a small town but not far from the train station. The clean, large rooms have their own gardens with picture windows and a place to sit and look out. The double mats on the tatami floors were comfortable and we slept listening to trickling water! The small outside onsen is beautiful, private and there are indoor and private baths. The staff were great. The proprietors provided transportation to the train station whenever requested. The husband is American so he was able to give us lots of information and perspective on Japanese culture. The traditional Japanese dinner was delicious.
Review 3:The owner speak very good English, excellent pick up service from the station, They just go the extra to make you stay special. A real traditional experience. We would stay again
Review 4:Our room was located next to the dining/banquet area so we experienced quite a bit of early morning breakfast set up/noise.
Review 5:Tyler was great, fantastic to be collected from train station and given an overview of the area by Tyler, especially the local and close by sights and food! Highlight was good local foods and the food served ( breakfast and dinner) at Kamesei.
Review 6:Traditional Japanese inn with beautif interior. The hosts were extremely nice and helpful. We were given rides to and from the hotel and were given directions and schedules to how to get to pretty much anything we needed, including getting to the Snow Monkey Park. I would recommend staying here to any of my friends!
Review 7:The staff surpassed the readily high level Japanese hospitality. Besides, everything was made particularly easy for us by the native English speaking staff member, who gave us great advice on the leisure options in the area.
Review 8:Getting there from osaka was a pain but worth the trip.
Review 9:The staff- tyler and his fam, were all very friendly and helpful. it was so refreshing to get out of the big cities for a day. the food at kamesei was amazing- definitely worth the trip.
Review 10:Very cold! Heater in room worked well so no issue at night - but chilly moving between rooms and in reception / lounge area. Decor could do with updating - appreciate is supposed to be traditional but looks quite tired.
Review 11:Great hot pool in garden Authentic room, with futon on floor and low table Owners were friendly & offered lifts to train stations etc Lots of restaurants within walking distance
Review 12:I probably needed more time to explore this ancient village .
Review 13:Tyler was fantastic in helping us organise a memorable stay. This is authentic Japanese hospitality, and The Geisha and Ninja class really add to that influence.
Review 14:Loved the traditional Japanese experience brought to life by Tyler, the owner who is from US (his wife is Japanese and her family has owned the ryokan for many years). In a country where many things are often "Lost in Translation", it was great to have a lovely 10 course traditional Japanese dinner with a focus on local ingredients ... and to have him explain each course. True spa destination and also a convenient overnight stop if you're visiting Jigokudani Monkey Park to see the famous snow monkeys ...
Review 15:Facilities and rooms were a little bit run down (teapot was chipped, sliding doors had holes in it)
Review 16:Onsen and the private bath, traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner (paid extra) was delicious and interesting. Tyler (owner operator) is extremely helpful in restaurant and itinerary recommendations and also provided free rides to/from local Togura station.
Review 17:Very minor but the pillows were a bit hard for us - would of been great to have a choice of a Japanese or western style pillow.
Review 18:Kamesei Ryokan is a slice of heaven away from the craziness of Tokyo and other big cities in Japan. We drove directly there from Haneda airport (very simple drive about 3 hours). When we arrived, Tyler and his wife were there to greet us and show us to our room. We had a beautiful suite, very large room with a private sitting area and private toilet. The showers/onsen baths are all shared (traditional Japanese style), but you can book the private onsen bath if you want more privacy. We did this a few times - it was absolutely beautiful and we just couldn't get enough....outdoors in the gardens, very peaceful and lovely when it is a bit chilly in the air.The rooms themselves are all traditional Japanese so you sleep on the tatami mats...a bit of getting used to but a great experience. We decided to book one dinner and one breakfast at the ryokan, they serve traditional Japanese food and I would highly recommend it for a very authentic experience. What is great is that Tyler, the owner of the ryokan is American and speaks fluent English - so for him to be able to tell us what we were eating, where it came from and just some general customs and traditions in Japanese food (such as most Japanese eat their rice/soup at the end of the meal!) was very interesting. The breakfast was very interesting - a lot of fish which is definatley not what we are used to, but again a great way to experience traditional Japanese style eating.Tyler was also able to give some suggestions of activities in the area and places to eat - he has translated some of the menus at his favourite restaurants into English so he is a real asset to any non-Japanese speaking traveller. We wish we could of brought him with us on the rest of our trip! One place you have to try is Yumi's - it is an izakaya style bar up the road from the Ryokan (about 2 minutes away), run by a former Geisha named Yumi. She is a legend!
Review 19:I've been to expensive ryokans($500+/day), and the memory at this place keep coming to my mind. Great staff and the town.
Review 20:Great place, very relaxing and comfortable. Excellent guidance from the hosts.
Review 21:Needs a little renovation
Review 22:Outdoor onsen, breakfast and staff
Review 23:Awesomely kind staff! Tyler and his wife are fully dedicated to the enjoyment of their guests! A must-try ryokan!
Review 24:Was well worth the effort getting to Kamesei, was a great experience with my children & such a beautiful area.
Review 25:not able to cook for there own guests
Review 26:There is nothing that I didn't like.
Review 27:Excellent attention, great food. Very comfortable. Well located, lots of places to eat nearby.
Review 28:Mr. Tyler and Mrs. Mari are very personable. It made our stay there very comfortable. Nice place to relax.
Review 29:We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone wanting the traditional ryokan experience. The host was particularly helpful and we really appreciated this after our journey.
Review 30:Nothing!
Review 31:The staff were great—extremely knowledgeable and helpful with directions and recommendations. The Ryokan was a very nice space, with a great lobby, a cozy fireplace, and a beautiful garden with a coy pond. The onsen were also wonderful—the outdoor bath that is available for private reservations is especially nice.
Review 32:- private outdoor onsen for 2100yen fee (45 min) - sex segregated public onsen available for use 24 hours - ten tatami mat room with nice tatami mat smell, little entrance alcove as well as enclosed porch area with garden and distant landscape view, private bathroom - free wifi in rooms - local cuisine (heavily vegetable and fish based) served in separate dining area, well presented, interesting flavours and textures, and a little luxury with matsutake mushrooms - room well stocked with green tea bags, and hot water bottle - host Tyler English-speaking, helped us out with general enquiries with sight seeing planning and transport, drove us to and from station, took effort to explain our meal as well as the local area
Review 33:The futon and pillow are very hard.....my poor back!
Review 34:The hospetility of the ryokan is amasing! Also the privat onsen was a pleasure after our cicletrip. The typical Japenese diner and breakfast was an experience. Even we had the 'busdrivers' room, it was realy nice staying. We enjoyed!!!
Review 35:The couple that runs it are very friendly. The rooms are typical japanese style with possibilities for hotspring/onsen. There's even a private onsen you can reserve. Tyler-san gaves us a lift to and from the train station several times during our stay and gave us suggestion of what to do and where to eat. The breakfast we got at the ryokan was typical Japanese and good. Can't recommend it enough.
Review 36:I stayed in Kamesei Ryokan for 2 nights and 3 days. The foreign host was very kind and generously understood in our side. The Japanese style breakfast was also very nice and delicious. The hot spring (Onsen) looked like a little bit small, but the water was so good. I was satisfied with this trip.
Review 37:the sulfur onsen, river, bike rental, proximity to attractions, the breakfast!
