Reviews for Ormiston House

Review 1:We didn't like that we had only 2 nights at this wonderful residence.

Review 2:What an amazing historic BnB. We felt privileged to stay in this beautiful home. Our room was appropriately decorated in quality antique furniture. A spa was included for that luxury touch. Tea and coffee making facilities were within the room. Our hostess, Carolyn had made delicious raspberry muffins for our arrival afternoon tea. A tasty continental breakfast began our day. We could walk everywhere we wanted to go from this location with a highlight of our Strahan visit being the Gordon River cruise. After our days' outings, it was delightful to come back and enjoy a drink in the cosy 'bar room' at Ormiston House.

Review 3:Slightly pricey as children considered adult rate

Review 4:The warm and friendly host with daily freshly baked croissants, baskets of bread ,variety of jam and tea

Review 5:We felt that we had arrived in heaven when we met our hosts at Ormiston house. Carolyn introduced to our excellent room and provided with all the information we needed to make the most of our stay in Strahan. Breakfast was a treat. Ormiston House is a wonderful experience - don't miss it. We'll be back as soon as we can.

Review 6:Just the layout of bathroom facilities in room bit different but it is a period house. All very clean

Review 7:The welcoming and kindness from Mike and Carolyn., they are such wonderful hosts - Providing freshly baked muffins both when we arrived and a plate to take on our way as well! Home made croissants for breakfast! They gave us information about Tasmania as soon ad we booked and more information when we arrived. This information was so helpful as we then made sure we didnt miss any of the beautiful things to see along the way. Definitely telling all my friends tI stay there!!

Review 8:Very convenient to our Gordon Tour. Very friendly, greeted us at the door. Provided special attention to personal needs , such as muffins upon arrival and for our Gordon River Tour the next day, and dairy free at that!

Review 9:Carolyn was a delightful hostess. She gave us a lot of info about this area. This lovely manor is located close to town (short walk along the waters edge). We enjoyed our stay very much!

Review 10:We loved the idea of staying in such an historic house but the best thing about our stay was the way we and other visitors were looked after and we were close to everything we had come to see and do.

Review 11:Caroline is an amazing host. Greeting and muffins on arrival, provided information sheet of all attractions and good eateries. The breakfast was yummy and muffins on farewell, such a lovely experience. Ormiston house is amazing, big beautiful grand rooms, high ceilings, fresh smelling, fantastic. If you visit Strahan you have to stay here.

Review 12:The bed was uncomfortable, the linen thin and past its use by date. The continental breakfast should have included Tasmanian yogurt, a second fruit choice, perhaps berries or even canned peaches, and home sluced decent bread for toast. Pre sliced supermarket loaves not really good enough.

Review 13:The house had been restored beautifully, and the owners were lovely.

Review 14:Friendly hosts, comfortable accommodation. Special touches like home cooked muffins on arrival, information on places to see on drives to and from Strahan was received by email prior to visit.

Review 15:If we were to bring our young family it didn't have the room.

Review 16:Mike was great, full of local knowledge. Service was amazing, made us feel like they would do anything for us. Highly recommend to everyone.

Review 17:Warmth and hospitality of hosts. Beautifully restored period home that reflected the time and personalities of the original owners, the Henrys. Felt like home...... just perfect.

Review 18:Carol is a fantastic host, with great knowledge of Strahan & extremely helpful with driving directions. The b&b is lovely and breakfast was wonderful. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 19:Unfortunately our TV lost reception in the middle of a program, but apart from that our room was lovely.

Review 20:The owner, Carolyn, was very helpful and friendly. From the home made muffins on arrival, to the personalised itinerary of possible routes we could take upon leaving Strahan, our stay was enjoyable and memorable. We even received a post card from Carolyn upon our return to Melbourne. A nice touch ! Also, the museum in the attic gave an interesting insight into the history of Ormiston House.

Review 21:The power went in our room and the dining roo. But it was quickly rectified

Review 22:Character of the property. Lovely warm welcome. Good location with restaurants nearby.

Review 23:having to leave too soon.

Review 24:Driving us to the wilderness boat cruise when we'd locked ourselves out of our hire car and tine ticking away!!! Above and beyond.

Review 25:The en-suite bathroom in our room needed up dating. The shower tiles looked quite mouldy & black in places.

Review 26:A fantastic old house with heaps of character. Lovely spacious rooms and very friendly & helpful staff.

Review 27:Everyone is treated special! Warm and Inviting Hostess Carolyn who ensures that you are feeling comfortable from the time you arrive until you depart. Met with home made muffins and waved goodbye with muffins and map with directions and hints to help you on your way.

Review 28:Personal service, cosy, historic building. Carolyn and Mike sent helpful pre visit emails and met us on arrival with offers of assistance. Happy to share local knowledge and went out of their way to make our visit exceptional. Recommend to anyone.

Review 29:This is really only a constructive criticism as we would love to stay here again but the bed was looking pretty sorry for itself- could do with a nice new bedspread and some nice decorative pillows and cushions. Otherwise loved everything!!

Review 30:Loved the homemade muffins on arrival and departure. The atmosphere was great and Carolyn was very attentive to our needs.

Review 31:Breadfast could have been a bit more .not much selection.

Review 32:On arrival we were greeted with fresh muffins , what a lovely touch after a long drive. The hosts could not do enough for us. Spotless and cosy. Close drive to restuaurants and shops.

Review 33:Our bad experience was with Booking.com the booking was not sent to Carolyn we arrived early she did not say anything until we learned another couple had booked the same room caused the owner problems!!

Review 34:Owner was wonderfu

Review 35:The history and all the detail in each room. The personalvtouches such as home made muffins each day and scrumptious breakfast. Will definitely recommend to our friends.

Review 36:Nothing we liked everything

Review 37:Our stay was truly amazing, wonderful hosts, beautiful home, warm and friendly with great attention to your pleasure and comfort.

Review 38:No option for a hot brekky. Our room lacked a bit of privacy from the driveway when curtains were open, net curtain would do the trick!

Review 39:Located within walking distance from boat cruises, shops, restaurants. Old world charm! A lovely friendly hostess/Owner, who makes delicious cakes!

Review 40:Zero

Review 41:The superb attention to our every comfort. Meeting us outside on arrival. Freshly baked muffins as we were settling in. A beautifully restored heritage home to explore. Fabulous breakfast. A wonderful chat from our hostess on the home and it's history and restoration. Maps and notes provided to get the most out of our stay. Muffins on departure and a warm farewell on departure. We have stayed in many B&B's over our lifetime and Carolyn and Mike hold the benchmark for this intimate style of accommodation.

Review 42:This is a beaitiful federation home in a unique location overlooking the harbour. We received a very friendly welcome from the hosts who are very helpful and easy-going. A nourishing continental breakfast was served and we were supplied with freshly baked muffins upon our arrival and for our departure.

Review 43:The charges were high. The room and breakfast was not up to the high standard one would expect from the most expensive rates in town.

Review 44:Carolyn was extremely helpful.

Review 45:Bed was a bit firm & would benefit from a cushion top.

Review 46:Our host was fantastic. He made us feel right at home without feeling like we were intruding on his house or being watched ((like you sometimes feel in a B&B). Tea & muffins on arrival were perfect after a long day driving & hiking. Room was massive, clean & well appointing in heritage theme. Bathroom also spacious & clean. House was large so you couldn't hear anyone else staying - felt very private in the FO Henry room. Breakfast was simple (toast, coffee/tea, juice, cereal, fruit & yogurt) & delicious - freshly baked croissants were a highlight! Close to the main attractions on the Esplanade. Great suggestion for dinner at 42 Degrees - buffet was fresh & plentiful with a beautiful view if the harbour & town centre. Recommend doing the scenic flight also - amazing views of the Franklin, Gordon & surrounds & lovely waterfall at the landing point.

Review 47:The personalised welcome and tourist info provided by the owner before we arrived and as we left. She is very enthusiastic about the historic house and area

Review 48:Gardens looking a little tired. No choice of breakfast. Only continental breakfast offered. Hot breakfast (at an additional cost) would have been nice.

Review 49:Old world charm. Very helpful and friendly hosts. Lots of help in regard to local area. Muffins on arrival and departure a nice touch.

Review 50:Nothing.

Review 51:Large rooms. Historical feel of the house. Excellent service. Fresh made cake on arrival! Car washing facility. Fantastic info sheet on departure highlighting places to visit.

Review 52:There was nothing we didn't like.

Review 53:We loved and appreciated the restoration of this time encapsulated home. It was quaint, elegant, cosy and our room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable, perfect for our needs. Our breakfast was delicious and the table was beautifully set. Carolyn and Mike could not have been more helpful. Carolyn's tourist drive suggestions were followed by us to a T and we visited every town she recommended! It made our trip so enjoyable. We would recommend Orminston House to every Strahan visitor.

Review 54:On Breakfast should be more not only sweets but additionally some cheese and meat , some vegetables

Review 55:Excellent , everything was excellent especially atmosphere of the house

Review 56:Love strahan. Like the remoteness. The accomodation was beautiful. Restored house from 1800s lots of history. Attentive hosts. Not well while there so didn't stray much from the town a d ormiston house.

Review 57:- no bar fridge in rooms (although there would not have been much space in the Amelia room) to keep goodies

Review 58:- Carolyn was absolutely wonderful: rooms presented beautifully and we really appreciated her home baked goodies every afternoon!! Also appreciated her directions/ advice on where to explore around tassie! - continental breakfast was lovely - attic room with all history of the house was very informative and worth a look - good wi fi - good location only short walk into main strahan village

Review 59:Room felt cramped & nowhere to sit apart from the bed. Only a very basic breakfast provided. Tariff too high for such a skimpy breakfast. Also just a little too far from town center.

Review 60:Nice period house. Muffins on arrival & departure. Caroline was very friendly.

Review 61:Carolyn and Mike are superb hosts and provide the visitor to Strahan and the west coast with a treasure trove of knowledge and advice. The house is extremely well located and one of the historical houses in Strahan. We had a wonderful 4 days.

Review 62:The mattress was terrible and uncomfortable. Air brakes from trucks on main road Referral to restaurant - terrible and disappointing

Review 63:Carolyn was a fantastic host. She offered a passionate representation of the house and the local area. She was accommodating, friendly and helpful. She cooks amazing muffins

Review 64:The bed could have been better.

Review 65:Now we know the place has been sold, it seems irrelevant to make a comment here. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Caroline was a wonderful host.

Review 66:We stayed at Ormiston House for 3 nights in late July/early August, Tuesday to Friday and were both spoiled and delighted. Carolyn and Mike are the perfect hosts - kind, knowledgeable and attentive - and the house is a historic gem. From the stained glass in the front entrance to the ceiling roses in the dining area and from the very nicely appointed and snug bar/lounge to the lovely period carpet Ormiston House is a treat to be enjoyed. We arrived on a cold and very wet winters afternoon to be treated by Mike opening the front door for us and showing us to our very pleasantly toasty room where there were fresh muffins (delicious) and the chance for a nice hot coffee (or tea). Our room was well appointed with a very nice bathroom and a comfortable bed and the opportunity to have a drink in the bar in the evening was greatly appreciated. The house is an easy walk (a wet one given the weather when we were there !) to the pub and restaurants for dinner or just around the corner to Molly's (BYO) for fish and chips. The bottle shop next door to Molly's closes at 1830 so dine early ! Carolyn and Mike also provide the guests with information regarding sights worth seeing and information regarding the history of the house and area, as well as information regarding the journey to from Hobart. Very useful for those who haven't travelled the road before! . All in all a most enjoyable experience with wonderful hosts in lovely B&B with great ambience.

Review 67:It's was such a great place to stay, they were very welcoming and even though it was cold outside, it was very warm inside. The dining room and service was excellent!

Review 68:Carolyn was a delight and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this wonderful stately old home. Loved the rooftop viewing platform and historical collection.

Review 70:The hospitality from Carolyn and Mike was fantastic. They provided a detail review of Strahan's attractions and all the other attractions to visit on the way from Hobart and Launceston. Ormiston House was warm and welcoming

Review 71:Definitely nothing.

Review 72:As soon as we booked Ormiston House as our place to stay in Strahan, Carolyn was kind enough to write to us by mail how to drive there from the town we were to stay the previous night. She even gave us various ideas about the places worth visiting, which enabled us to prepare for the trip to the West Coast of Tasmania with joy and expectation. Ormiston House was clean and fabulous! We felt as if we were staying in a manor-house whose owner was one of our relatives. The blueberry muffins Carolyn baked for us to let us take with us just before our departure were so tasty and heart-warming.

Review 73:Carolyn was there to greet us as we arrived - gave us very tasty muffins for tea on our arrival and departure - nothing was too much trouble - gave us travel info - beautiful house and room - it felt like we were home - will go back any time

Review 74:We stayed in the Jessie suite with our elderly mother. The suite is two bedrooms with a bathroom. What we didn't realise was that the person in the 1st bedroom has to go through the 2nd bedroom to access the bathroom. And the person in the 2nd bed has to go through the 1st bed to get out. Oops, not the best design there and it wasn't clear from the pictures.

Review 75:Ormiston House is a piece of federation history with oodles of style. Carolyn has furnished the house with a loving eye for detail and there are many, many items to delight the sight inside the house. Mike and Carolyn are a delightful couple who wish only to make your stay comfortable. Carolyn made fresh croissants for our breakfast each morning - YUM! I can't say enough for Ormiston House - it is a treasure, and Mike and Carol are treasures too :)
