Reviews for Relais Il Chiostro Di Pienza
Review 1:The only possible problem is having to park outside the town after dropping off your luggage
Review 2:Very centrally positioned with a fantastic view from the garden over the surrounding area
Review 3:The location is perfect for a visit to Pienza. Everything is literally right out the front door. The difficulty of driving right up to the hotel and unloading luggage in the middle of a pedestrian street was well taken care of by a service that takes your car away and returns it for just 15 Euros. The staff, including the woman at the front desk, the driver, and the person in charge of breakfast, were all very friendly. Overall, it was a good experience.
Review 4:When we arrived at hotel after travelling for 8 hours were greeted with uncertainty about our booking Sorry to say she was not up to standard did give no help with luggage or information about facilities in hotel. Not very easy about the parking difficult to find somewhere every day!!
Review 5:Very laid back and relaxing. When it was time to leave staff were Very helpful. Van gel was excellent nothing was too much trouble. Fantastic breakfast ladies were very obliging.
Review 6:Didn't like the fact they tried to say we had to pay cash as their Credit Card machine wasn't working. We eventually insisted and they accepted it using the Restaurant's machine! I feel in this day an age this excuse that you can't pay by Card is not at all valid as even a small artisan shop in the town accepts it for amounts around €20. As I had wo rooms to pay for it is absurd they expect me to carry over €400 in cash just to save them some commissions on Credit Cards. Also I booked my stay with a credit card so see no reason for having to pay cash. Just beware as it is often a ploy so they can take in cash which may be fiscally more beneficial to them.
Review 7:Location, Pool which was needed as it was very hot when we stayed. General atmosphere o the place, an old historic building refurbished well.
Review 8:The room we booked was downgraded & instead of having junior suites that we'd paid for we had normal rooms - not happy
Review 9:Location, beautiful building
Review 10:Pienza is a wonderful small hilltop town and this hotel is in the perfect position to enjoy what is on offer. The building is old so if you like sleek modern hotels this one won't be for you! We loved it.
Review 11:Bathroom was clean and in need of some repair. The shower leaked, the fan made a noise like an airplane taking off (and came on every time the light was turned on - poor sod who is sleeping while the other is having a late night tinkle) and the flush made a noise like a roar.
Review 12:Maurizio in the restaurant is spectacular, humble, professional, knows his wine and understands the value of good food with a good view - vs all view. Samuela at the front desk was efficient, kind and with a wonderful sense of humor. The blond women at breakfast seems a sharp shooter, she is a doll and makes a good cappuccino. We enjoyed very much our trip in large part due to the staff, the dinner, the view and the extra touch of a pool in the HEAT!
Review 13:rather small room. Strange that we had to move the bed to find and use the light switch of the bed light
Review 14:Restaurant and view at the terrace of the restaurant; the garden near the swimming pool
Review 15:It was a beautiful and unique experience to stay in such a quaint town in such a lovely hotel! The staff was excellent and the restaurant was perfect. We had evening supper and breakfast the next morning. Just fantastic food and a marvelous staff!
Review 16:Reception staff not the best; and hotel slightly faded from past glory. Difficult to get at with car/luggage (but they park it afterwards).
Review 17:Perfect location in our favourite Italian town. Set in beautiful Tuscan countryside. Get a room facing the hills.
Review 18:Double bed had uncomfortable join/ridge in the middle.
Review 19:Large comfortable room in historic building with big bathroom. Location right in the centre of the old town. Excellent fresh continental brrakfast. Beautiful terrace with sweeping views. Good restaurant.
Review 20:Difficulty on arrival with luggage as unable to bring car very near hotel due to pedestrianisation of the street.
Review 21:Rooms full of character and spacious. Wonderful terrace at rear of hotel with good view. Quiet although in centre of Pienza.
Review 22:We loved our stylish bedroom, the bed was king sized and very comfy. Breakfast is plentiful. The location is perfect: it's right in the middle of Pienza.
Review 23:Nothing
Review 24:Fantastic location, friendly and very helpful staff. Peaceful environment whilst being beside main square. Only had breakfast in hotel so cannot comment on food but lovely gardens for al fresco dinner. Nice pool area. Would definitely return.
Review 25:No hotel or area information in the room. The swimming pool area was a bit tatty.
Review 26:Lovely room with great views of Tuscany. Staff were all very pleasant.
Review 27:The restaurant was fairly high end and kept quite separate from the hotel so didn't really feel welcome to have an afternoon vino. When we did one evening it was a tad difficult and cost 7 euros a glass compared with 2 Euro at the bar on the main square overlooking the church. Would be nice to have a bar for guests or an area where vino della casa is available for a more reasonable price.
Review 28:The room was clean and had everything you needed safe, hot shower, fridge, hairdryer, shutters, air con that works well and comfy beds with extra pillows. Breakfast was continental and really good with fresh fruit, tasty cereal, cakes, toast, meats and cheeses, though make sure you ask for a coffee as the 'American coffee' is horrid most places in Italy and this is no exception. Also the pool added the extra wow factor for an hour's chilled time and often in the morning we were the only ones there! Pienza is small but perfectly formed and filled with families and couples, a good base to explore fabulous Tuscany.
Review 29:nothing to say here!
Review 30:Beautiful setting, excellent location. Right in the centre of the historical village of Pienza. Perfect view of the valley where the movie gladiator was shot. The hotel staff were very welcoming and helpful. Very nice breakfast too by the way. I would stay here again for sure.
Review 31:shabbiness of cloisters/garden /swimming pool area ?need a new gardener ? weedkiller ?shrubs pruning poor and unimaginative breakfast- poor fresh fruit
Review 32:position view from room 202 delightful town good local restaurants
Review 33:Everything would recommend the hotel to anyone visiting this lovely village
Review 34:every thing was fine
Review 35:The situation and building
Review 36:We loved the location and the amazing view from our window.
Review 37:Parking charge
Review 38:Great location and beautiful building
Review 39:Everything
Review 40:Air conditioning didn't work
Review 41:Location and service
Review 42:Rude staff, awful bathroom, reception is a joke, dodgy breakfast.
Review 43:Great location, beautiful views, nice restaurant area.
Review 44:Nothing - maybe the pool loungers are a bit uncomfortable
Review 45:Lovely old building with fabulous views. Breakfast staff are really lovely.
Review 46:noise from street beneath early in the morning
Review 47:Position and views. Nice, big corner room with breathtaking view. Wonderful garden for dinner and breakfast.
Review 48:The bed wasn't too comfortable.
Review 49:Incredible location. Typical Italian hotel. Gorgeous views from the restaurant.
Review 50:Location views
Review 51:Good serviceb
Review 52:Great views
Review 53:Not much to do to become a really amazing place, but pool, bathroom is a bit cheap
Review 54:The situation, beautiful views
Review 55:she made a sensational breakfast and was a kindhearted woman with a winning smile!
Review 56:views, comfortable bed,
Review 57:The smiling staff - the beautiful furniture and the quiet, but central location. Just a very nice hotel - we will be back.
Review 58:location, rooms, luxe, courtesy, services. Everything
Review 59:Excellent location. Gorgeous vista views from the terrace. Great breakfast buffet. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 60:No wlan, no computer for guest as said on homepage
Review 61:Location, historic ambiente, architecture, pool, view.
Review 62:The view. Comfortable large room in the heart of Tuscany. Pienza is beautiful and our hotel wonderful.
Review 63:View south to Val D'Orcia valley Friendly knowledgeable staff English speaking staff Clean, comfortable rooms
Review 64:The hotel is very difficult to get to if you are in a car. Roads are restricted.
Review 65:Lovely breakfast, and breakfast area.
Review 66:Non function Aircondition. Extremly bad and expensive restaurant.
Review 67:View from restaurant.
Review 68:location in the center of historic city center, old convent building, very romantic
Review 69:nothing
Review 70:very beautiful location great rooms friendly staff
Review 71:Waste many time to understand how to park our car, finally a man came then park at his home.
Review 72:stunning view at breakfast site , big and nice room.
Review 73:excellent views, lovely garden-setting for breakfast, great location.
Review 74:The breakfast was extremely disappointing. There was no fresh coffee which is amazing considering the hotel is in Italy. As a result we chose to breakfast at a cafe in the town on our second morning.
Review 75:The hotel is in a beautiful setting in the renaissance town of Pienza with marvellous views over the Tuscan countryside.
Review 76:horrible bathroom restaurant is not part of hotel so you cant get a drink till it is open inspit of the views stay outside of walls several hotels less than 2 mins walk and looked very much better
Review 77:Breakfast was poor, although it is generally valid for all Italian hotels. Parking is a bit tricky, you could reserve parking place but be careful because that will not be included in your payment receipt but will be paid separately (not to the hotel) which could cause inconveniences (e.g. if you need a receipt or if you have already tipped the parking guy a lot).
Review 78:The staff is very friendly and helpful, the view is beautiful, the food in the restaurant (lunch/dinner) is great. Very well located!
Review 79:lovely 15th century monastery right in the middle of Pienza. Cafe's and restaurants nearby and a beautiful al fresco restaurant on site. Loads of character.
Review 80:This beautifully converted convent from the 15th century boasts magnificent views onto the Val d'Orcia! It was great to have the use of their pool in the heart of Tuscuny. The breakfast buffet was varied and plentiful with their seating outdoors, you have an amazing view while you eat. Our room was huge, like North American standards also with a view of the Valley. Staff was friendly and helpful. We were right in the heart of this hill-top village surrounded by ramparts.
Review 81:this was a converted convent right in the heart of Pienza. What a cute place one of my highlights and would recommend the town and the hotel. You are right in the square but being such a small town it was not noisy at all.
Review 82:We are used to lawns being kept tidy and no long weeds growing through the box thorn hedges and paving stones. It was not so nice sitting round the pool with 15 cm long grass and weeds everywhere. BUT we would still go back here anytime
Review 83:The hotel was right in the center of the town. We had a fabulous view of the valley from our bedroom. We thought we would have to pay extra for parking, but found that staff directed us to free parking only 5 mins walk from the Hotel
Review 84:No chest of drawers in bedroom and 4 coat hangers which for a full weeks stay is inadequate. The tea and coffee facilities were just tea and no laundry. Very few toiletries and no tissues which I would expect in a 4 star hotel. The hotel is looking rather tired
Review 85:The position apart from car parking. The young male receptionist always went the extra mile. The pool area and sun beds
Review 86:The use of UHT milk for coffees and espressos.
Review 87:Superb views over Orcia Valley and Monte Amiata, garden restaurant with view, excellent choice of good food, a glimpse into medieval architecture, delightful historic town.
Review 88:The swimmingpool wasn't opened yet The prices of ther restaurant Not for a whole week
Review 89:The place and the character with the view from our room and from the terras.
Review 90:Poor breakfast for hotel of that standard - tables laid for staffconvenience rather than on the terrace with a view. Although we wereupgraded to a suite, it was not very clean - fluff in corners etc.Parking quite a walk away. Luggage had to be dropped off - no porterageoffered although maybe it was available if requested.
Review 91:Location great. Magical views from the terrace. Wi-fi code givenautomatically.
Review 92:With the exception of the entrance, there is not much that reminds of the original cloister. The room was not really clean. We had the impression that the bed linnen had not been replaced.
Review 93:Very well located in the middle of Pienza (almost next to the cathedral). Nice view over the Tuscan landscape from the garden (and from some of the rooms). Pienza is very small but lies in the mid of quite impressive Tuscan landscape. Nice and relaxing city.
Review 94:The operations seemed to be ran loosely by a bunch of young kids..
Review 95:The views from the valley side is amazing. It was my second trip so it was good to see Jean Lucca and I met his family who all work there as well. The location is great and the best breakfast.
Review 96:Fantastic location - our room had an amazing view of the country-side and were able to watch stunning sunsets. We spent a week here and it was perfect in every respect. Staff are excellent. Highly recommended.
Review 97:Ok was very cold outside, around zero, but the heating system was too high, I had to sleep with open window..... nevertheless shower at morning was quite cold... a little thermostat tuning is needed!
Review 98:The Location is Magic! Was the second time for me and always this place give me strong emotions and wonderful relaxation.. P.s. This is little off topic but many thanks to restaurant "La buca di Enea" the only one able to feed me at late night! This is professionality!!
Review 99:A couple of noisy, evening receptions one of which went on very late, sotake earplugs
Review 100:Lovely old building - relaxed atmosphere - friendly and helpful staff- stunning views from garden. All make for a special holiday inbeautiful Pienza.
Review 101:As with many enclosed towns in Italy parking is v hard. The hotel www could be more helpful as they do have garaging arrangements , and precise directions to drop off luggage are needed.
Review 102:a lovely central location. Spacious , airy and comfortable. Restaurent and dinner really good.
Review 103:Very difficult to find and access by car. Receptionist was phoned for help but was useless. Obliged to use hotel-provided parking at 15 euros per day. Deluxe room small with small window.Promised change of room did not materialise. Internal bathroom had no extractor fan. Electric kettle did not connect .Most clothes hangers were wiretype.
Review 104:Fine medieval convent in medieval town. Good garden with pool and extensive views over hills.
Review 105:Fabulous accommodation right in the centre of the historical Tuscan hill town of Pienza. Charming, exclusive and unique in it's history, with a stunning garden terrace overlooking the superb countryside and where the delightful buffet breakfast is served on summer mornings. Wonderful!. The hotel is located within the old town walls where traffic is not allowed without a permit, therefore on initial arrival in Pienza, park outside the town walls and walk the short distance to the hotel to obtain a temporary permit. This will allow you to transport your luggage to the hotel - free parking is then available close by outside the walls.
Review 106:The pool was not working for a couple of days and the umbrellas falling over in the wind was a bit worrying.
Review 107:This 16th century renovated convent is a real retreat in the centre of the hill town of Pienza. it is surrounded by beautiful golden undulating hills, a minute from the Duomo and walled walkway but very peaceful and relaxing. It has a wonderful terrace for breakfast and dinner and a terraced pool to relax beside when not visiting the local hill fortress towns of Tuscany.
Review 108:I only wished I ahd read TripAdvisor about booking the right room typeand choosing one that faces the valley. My room was the lead in categoryand was simple. Mattress was too hard though and pillow too soft so Idid not sleep well. Otherwise it was all very clean. It was difficutl tolocate though. Need to ahve a clearer map especially for those who aredriving there.
Review 109:I like the history, the fact that it was a former convent (I'm acatholic). The courtyard is very charming and the Terrace wasoutstanding. My husband and I had dinner and breakfast and the sceneryis just so amazingly tranquil and it calms the soul. Jan Luca atreception was extremely helpful. The church next door was very a verypeaceful sanctuary for reflection. Dinner was wonderful and it's a must. The staff a breakfast were also very accommodating and cheerful. Thelittle shops surrounding the hotel are such a delight and is great forbrowsing and buying gifts. Location is very central and a good spot touse as a base to drive around Tuscany
Review 110:We loved everything about our hotel except the restraunt. The The food was good but staff was not helpful, the food was overpriced and the portions small. If you go you absolutely must make a reservation and tell they you are staying at the hotel. There were other restraunts in town we liked better.
Review 111:Relais II Chiostro is very peaceful with wonderful views of the valley. They perfect Tuscan view. We loved the location, the attention to detail, the friendly staff and the town of Pienza.
Review 112:The manager of restaurant took my visa card and changed the total bill in his office without consulting me . An error was made on the bill one entree was not charged, but he continued to put visa through, cancel and redo another for more, without my knowledge. It was not an attempt to defraud, just not the correct way to do this. Cost me money, since my friends already cashed up with me and had left.
Review 113:very central and clean some of rooms large others a bit smaller, must chose what you want. Dinner expensive but good.
Review 114:Horrible breakfast Nothing to eat, there isn`t hot tea :((( Only vacuumbottle with warm (not hot !!!) waterLook for breakfast outside.
Review 115:Good location. Yhere isn`t any good hotels in Pienza :)
Review 116:Though our room was very nice, unfortunately one of the beds was very uncomfortable (as though the springs had gone on one side) giving one the feeling of falling out of bed! We did mention this to the reception but I think the remedy was lost in translation. Also, if your room is overlooking the cloisters, take some earplugs as the jackdaws nest above which can be very noisy in the night and early morning.
Review 117:We have stayed at this hotel previously. It is very conveniently situated in the town with beautiful views down the Val D'Orcia. The staff are helpful and friendly and the breakfast is varied and plentiful. However, we did not take an evening meal so can't comment on the quality of the restaurant food. Because our stay was for 6 nights, I think the hotel upgraded us into a suite which was very nice and spacious.
Review 118:The hotel had a lovely atmosphere was very comfortable for a winter break. Our room was very spacious and had a spectacular view over the Tuscan countryside.
Review 119:Beautiful location and view Excellent dinner at restaurant great staff
