Reviews for Queenswood Cottage
Review 1:The food could do with an upgrade. A lot of the stuff on the menu was similar and we ended up eating at other places more often. Nuwara Eliya seemed to universally lack authentic Sri Lankan food; I did not travel all the way to eat French fries and burgers!
Review 2:This hotel's key distinguishing factor is its staff. They were all very friendly, attentive and welcoming. The rooms were much bigger than we expected; we got the two at the top which are essentially four rooms! We really liked the log cabin vibe and it's perfectly located - the lake, market and park are all within walking distance.
Review 3:Breakfast was supposed to be served by7.00am. As we were proceeding to Galle the next day we wanted an early jumpstart . Breakfast was promised early by the owner, but till 8.15am there were no employees in sight. The cafe was closed, the front gate to the property was closed. At 8.15am one of the waitors who manages the kitchen and the cafe, shuffles in and wanted to pack breakfast. What type of hotel are these people running? The owner had an lax and casual attitude about things and didn't even apologise for the incident. My friend who was not feeling well after the tedious journey and also haven't eaten the whole day wanted to eat something during breakfast, but was denied by the casual attitude of the owner and the staff. We proceeded on our journey, paid for the room minus the breakfast. Never more in this place and not recommending to any of our friends. What an experience.!!!! This place should be stripped of all the stars they have.
Review 4:I cannot say anything postive as I just stayed a night. There was nothing I liked about the place. Booking this place even for a night was really a bad idea but the experiences are even worse. Real nightmare !!!!!
Review 5:As many other reviews have mentioned; it is a bit cold even inside. Given that the mountainous area already has a chiller climate, it can be hard to get a goodnight's rest without warm accommodations. I would recommend the hotel invest in some thicker blankets.
Review 6:One of my friends really loved the cottage feel of the place; as we were in a villa, it truly provided for the feeling of a sleepover. The staff was friendly and were able to pack us breakfast for an early rise to Horton Plains.
Review 7:Does not look like the pics. Just 4 rooms, construction debris around the property For the price we paid, there were clearly much better options available.
Review 8:Staff was attentive
Review 9:weather :-)
Review 10:Very good value and price relation. Cheap but amazing value. Clean enough, cozy hot water (it was quite cold when we were there and got hot water bottles:-). Friendly staff and in close to village street.
Review 11:It was a bit cold (also in the restaurant) but the staff offered hot bags to keep warm and there is an electric heater. My driver didn't like his room and moved somewhere else for the night. Not a big deal...
Review 12:The style that is really charming, the kindness and dedication of the staff, there is a hair dryer, there are several international power plug convertors in the room, anti moskito product, the price is fair. Really a nice place that would definitely be my first choice if I would come back.
Review 13:Food in the restaurant was overpriced, cold by the time we got it, half of the menu was not available. The packed breakfast for our hike in Horton Plains was so disgusting we had to throw it away, maybe bread gone bad... Room smelled a little musty.
Review 14:Comfortable room. The manager arranged a driver for our trip to Horton Plains.
Review 15:Prompt service at replying to emails, i stupidly booked the wrong date, which was easily changed for me no fuss! All round great service and lovely rooms
Review 16:During the day time a lot of flies. The television reception was very bad.
Review 17:The wooden architecture is what caught my eye into booking this hotel. The staff are bey helpful. We had an early check out so the hotel was kind enough to pack breakfast boxes for us (since our room was inclusive of breakfast)
Review 18:Nothing bad to say
Review 19:Well situated, 10 min walking to the city center. Huge room with a wonderful garden. The restaurant offer you a delicious food a good price. The staff is very polite and professional. I will come back.
Review 20:Poor sound insulation, we could hear people in the adjacent room when they were just talking.
Review 21:The wood planks gives a charming mountain style to the chalet. Good location, walking distance from the city centre or the lake. Friendly and helpful staff, the food at the restaurant is correct.
Review 22:We didn't enjoy our stay. From the moment we arrived we wanted to leave. We booked a family room and were too worried for our 5 year old daughter walking down the very steep stairs. Therefore the top floor wasn't used. We totally missed the supposed charm of this place. Very expensive
Review 23:the kids slept in a garret which was a little poor. the electricity kept falling, and the restaurant was fool with flys
Review 24:a very nice wood cottage , we had the family room the garden outside is beautiful, and its a 10 minut walking from viktoria park and the local market, .
Review 25:فندق رائع يأخذك في حياة ريفية هادئة وجميلة. كانت تجربة ممتعة وجميلة. Very fabulous cottage hotel. It takes you to the countryside life with a full furnished room. It was very exciting and beautiful experience.
Review 26:We hadn't been left any towels, so had to call reception to get some. They were delivered promptly, but only two bath towels, and no hand towel. The bathroom was very basic, with cement walls which made the white towels dirty when hung up on the towel rail. Our neighbours left very noisily at 5am which we heard all of as there can't be much insulation between rooms.
Review 27:Our room had a double bed and a twin which was good for two friends traveling together!
Review 28:For some reason, the beds throughout our stay in Sri Lanka were all hard. It would be nice if the hotels would invest in softer more comfortable beds. Regardless, we still enjoyed out stay.
Review 29:I like that this cottage was quiant. It reminded me of being in the woods. It was quiet and the location was convenient. We stayed for one night and have no complaints.
Review 30:Our second room had no power from early morning which resulted in cold showers. Breakfast was poor, only some options for europeans and we had two sri lankans with our party who had to make do.
Review 31:Location, style of property, nice snug feel to the room with a good heater to keep warm.
Review 32:The building was completely made of wood and the inside had been recently varnished so the smell was really quite bad. The shower was awful, didn't use it. Very overpriced.
Review 33:It was quiet and we had a good night's sleep after a long travelling day.
Review 34:nothing not good.
Review 35:good location: 20minutes walk to the Gearge lake. Nearby a outdoor stadium. Not far away from the downtown. High quality food service, good breakfast. Warm hearted waiters and managers.
Review 36:The staff was okay, the rooms are very noisy, you can hear the neighbours when they are sleeping. The Food is international lower standard.
Review 37:The rooms are clean and nice. For 1 night it was okay. Nothing to loose, nothing to win. The garden is really in a perfekt condition.
Review 38:Cons: - The soundproofing issue is a major one, and you see it mentioned in most of the reviews. The manager told me that they are going to shut down for a couple of weeks and take the center walls apart and add soundproofing. I hope this works. If you are looking at booking, you may want to find out if this has been completed. In the meantime - they need to take the televisions out of the rooms! Our neighbors turned thier television on to cartoons for their kids at 6am and drove us crazy. It was like their TV was in our room. - No alcohol, not even beer - which is crazy for a hotel and restaurant that wants western tourists. Most people would expect wine or beer at a nice restaurant in a holiday setting. This makes no sense.
Review 39:Pros: - The staff was very nice and definitely want to be of great service - The room was very nice, they beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was nice - Reasonable hot water and pressure
Review 40:1. staff were told to prepare breakfast, however you have to wake them up instead ! 2. staff can not agree any modification of stay plan, even half refund!
Review 41:bed is comfort, and the heater is useful for the cold weather
Review 42:WIFI slow, the rooms were just TOO noisy between each other and was very disturbing when the neighbour talks we couldn't hear each other talking!!
Review 43:Staff friendliness, food
Review 44:Only bad was the cold bathroom and also the neigbours noice could be heard easy.
Review 45:Everything was great, really cosy cottage, warm and helpful staff. The big familyroom was perfect for children that on the roof could be on their own and play. Easy walk 10 min to the town. We was there during heavy rain all day's but we came home to warm room! Very good restaurant with high class food, clean and fresh! Best was the warm big heather bottles we get in night to warm up!
Review 46:Restaurant has limited choice of food, but the staff wouldn't mind preparing your choice of food. The accommodation has limited rooms (only a total of 4 rooms). Our cab driver couldn't be accommodated due to no accommodation for drivers.
Review 47:Excellent service, staff are always smiling. Property is just about a year old. The first floor cottage has 2 bedrooms. The design and concept is unique. Wood logs with two floors. Must stay atleast one night if you r at Nuwara Eliya
Review 48:You may not wish to print this. The bathroom was basic and uninviting. The public rooms were also basic. We were stuck in our room with not enough light to read a book. We were disappointed. With this booking. All the other bookings with booking. Com were great
Review 49:We were only booked for one night.
Review 50:The wood and the insects are good friends! It was full of vermin. The toilette was not very clean the smell was unpleasant and the wifi was not working in anyplace of the hotel. Strange reception with a room full of people and beds in front of the dinning room. Strange place
Review 51:It is next to the road and easy to find.
Review 52:No alcohol May not be a problem to some people but I like a beer in the evening
Review 53:Staff very friendly. Reasonable breakfast ,as it was pouring with rain we decided to have dinner there. Best fries in Sri Lanka. Chef good. Will do food to your taste . It was very wet and cold but we had a good heater in room and extra blankets
Review 54:Wifi was very slow
Review 55:Staff was exceptionally forthcoming in making your experience at the hotel memorable. Food was also very good. The property itself is very nice with wooden interiors. All in all, it was very good.
Review 56:The rooms in the block house are very clairaudient - means you hear everything from the other rooms and also every noise from outside.
Review 57:Nice and very friendly staff. Nice garden.
Review 58:The staff is the biggest problem of this hotel. They are kind but every our request had to be done twice to be fullfilled. We stayed there two nights. After the first we were leaving early in the morning to visit horton plains about 6a.m. the staff told us that they will do for us a breakfast pack to take with us, but unfortunatelly our driver was waiting and we had to knock to the building where owner lives wake everyone and when they finally wake up they made for us lunch box what took next 20minutes...the next day we were leaving early morning too so we told the staff to prepare for us the breakfast box too but unfortunately the problem occurs one more time and everyone vere slipping when we finally woke up someone we did just check out and didnt have time to wait for preparing our breakfast box.
Review 59:Clean hotel, made by wood, not so pricey. Good value for money.
Review 60:Upon checking into the hotel the staff we're incredibly helpful and we were offered a complimentary cup of tea which was brought to our room along with our luggage. Our room was wonderful- full of rustic touches and the heater worked perfectly and kept us warm. Nice place to be with family.
Review 61:Upon checking into the hotel the staff we're incredibly helpful and we we're offered a complimentary tea or coffee which was brought to our room along with our luggage. They offered us a menu for the dinner service, which is served in the main lobby area also a large log cabin full of character and light. Our room was fantastic - full of rustic touches and the heater worked perfectly and kept us warm - which is important to consider since the temperatures in Nuwara Eliya are significantly lower than the rest of Sri Lanka due to the high altitudes. They offered us extra blankets which I thought was very thoughtful of them. All in all this was a short but memorable stay at the hotel and it all ended with a simple but yummy breakfast.
Review 62:The hotel needs a bigger, more prominent sign that can be seen from the main road.
Review 63:This cottage was perfect for a family with two young boys. They loved climbing the steep stairs to the loft and their own private sleeping area. We liked the privacy of having two separate rooms, the beautiful mountain location, the great restaurant, and the helpful staff.
Review 64:Soundproofing might be a problem if you happen to have a noisy neighbor in the bungalow.
Review 65:Providing heater is quite helpful and important because Nuwara Eliya is on a plateau and travelers may feel really cold in the night. The staff were very friendly and professional. Two young staff got up at 5am to help prepare takeaway breakfast and hot tea for us. The location is good, walking distance to the center of the town, The Grand hotel, and Victoria Park.
Review 66:Floor was so cold at night. Need to use carpets...
Review 67:Well cleaned, comfort and nice staff. Breakfast was delicious. Place was nice and very easy to reach popular destinations in Nuwara Eliya from there even by bus.
Review 68:View is bad. You do not see the lake but the parking You hear everything other people are doing in the other rooms and I really mean everything It says hotel but they wont do your rooms The amount of money you pay is totally unreasonable for what you get
Review 69:Nothing
Review 70:Nothing to comment
Review 71:Different place to the rest of hotels we stayed at Sri Lanka. Delicious wooden cottage, with 2 levels, perfect for families or groups. Very kind staff, always solicitous. Nice dinner there, and lvely garden for having a rest with good weather. I highly recommend to stay there.

Review 112:the soundproofing was not very good, we can hear the sound form next door in the late night! the water in the 2nd floor was not very hot, not enough for 3 to take a bath.
Review 113:the staff there were very nice! can see the star from the window!wonderful!
Review 114:It was a fabulous experiance to stay at queenswood, staff could not do enough for you, I wish them well with their building programme they deserve all the support you can give them, I have already given there address to a colleague travelling in June.
Review 115:the staff were just amazing, nothing was too much trouble and they were so welcoming. They organised my daughters birthday celebration when we stayed with them - complete with teddy bear cake, candles and streamers. They all went the extra mile. The accommodation was really clean, well presented and roomy and the garden was a calm and relaxing place to chill. I would unreservedly recommend this lovely place to anyone.
Review 116:As we are Muslims,we are so glad the hotel was operated by a Muslimfamily. It is so convenient for us in terms of getting halal foods.Thestaff made us felt at home with their hospitality.
Review 117:We arrived during the annual race at nuwara eliya. The hotel road was closed,(they were supposed to notify us ahead), so we stood up for two hours awaiting to cross. That night was too noisy with the race and nearby festivals. Not recommanded during mid april. Value for money was low.
Review 118:Friendly staff, fresh salads from their garden Wooden ambiance is good
Review 119:That no one warned us about the noise in the paddock across because of the festival and it just felt like sleeping in a night club in front of the speakers!!! Awful! And all that for the price of 145 US dollars!!!
Review 120:That there was a room available!
Review 121:There could be one more table by the wardrobe. We didn't feel having enough space to put all of our stuff.
Review 122:We booked two nights but stayed 3 nights because of a small accident. The room was lovely with all wood, which might help make the room very cool even when the sun was blazing outside in early afternoon. There were only a few staff who could speak decent English but all were quite helpful. We booked the car from the hotel to pick us up from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya. The trip was quite nice and we stopped at two waterfalls on the way. After we had the accident, they offered to drive us to the hospital and waited for us. We checked out early at 5 am in order to go to Horton Plains. The hotel prepared sandwiches for us in the early morning which was nice.
Review 123:Friendly and helpful staff Excellent hospitality
Review 124:Price not fair to much
