Reviews for Grand Hotel Dei Castelli

Review 1:Minor problem, but qiute noisy in the morning when people were leaving the hotel very early

Review 2:The large and beatiful room and bathroom. The veiw from our room. The lovely decorated interior. The helpful and very nice staff

Review 3:The receptionist was the loveliest lady who helped us to our room and provided guidance on visiting the town. We had mentioned it was our honeymoon and the staff very kindly made it very special by providing us a wonderful table in the restaurant and even a dessert specially designed for us.

Review 4:We loved everything. The staff were great, the accommodation & views were superb, the breakfast was great , the gardens and surrounds were peaceful and beautiful. We cannot wait to go back and stay longer!

Review 5:No problems

Review 6:After travelling around Italy for three weeks this hotel was a gem. Quiet without being out of the way. Beautiful surroundings, wonderful dining room and food was excellent. The staff were helpful and attentive. A unique castle - wonderful way to end our holiday.

Review 7:You can't get Wi-Fi signal in the rooms or in the restaurant. It's only reacheable in the loby or in the corridors.

Review 8:The hotel was amazing. The view was so nice, you can see whole baia del silenzio. The building used to be a castle, so the rooms and all other indoor places was very comfartable. The hotel crew was very friendly. The restaurant is also very good. You can use a lift to go the beach or to the town. Free carparking is an advantage, when you are in Italy.

Review 9:Internet was absolutely useless. Booked for "free internet available everywhere." Actually not available ys all in room and very spotty everywhere else. Fobbed off with its an old bulding - ok fine , don't pretend there actually is wifi available

Review 10:Location . Large room.

Review 11:Too many dogs walking in the park and around the hotel (the hotel allows pets), uncomfortable beds, slow Wifi, mediocre breakfast, beach is on payment with all the best places rented out to local people not to the hotel guests, no spa, no tea making facilities

Review 12:Marvellous park, beautiful old castle, picturesque views, quiet place away from hustle of the town, nice beach located on rocks

Review 13:It took a few days to fix the wifi-system in the rooms, so people had to wander around the public rooms with ipads en iphones, searching for contact. But then it was fixed, so okay.

Review 14:Fantastic views, private beach.

Review 15:Hard to find a non-turist resturant.

Review 16:absolut a stay worth, the location on top the city between 2 beaches makes this hotel something special, and the privat beach is a wonderful touch. Allan

Review 17:WiFi was available only on reception zone; Breakfast is very good but the same each day.

Review 18:Excellent location. Beach, breakfast, room and overall accomodation were great. Private beach is equiped with special zone for children and destinguished zone for grown ups, which makes both cases comfortable. Friendly and helpfull personell, huge hotel garden with great views made our stay perfect!

Review 19:The cost of the privat beach was to much. I don´t understand why I as a guest need to know off the private beach. Everybody can use it, if the pay! The coffee in the restaurant was from a nescafe machine and was not good at all.

Review 20:The view from hotel and from the restaurant. The little bay near the town center where you don´t have to bay to stay.

Review 21:Wifi was intermittent. Don't get lost on way to private pool and "beach". Poorly sign posted, and in the heat we ended up walking in circles until we found someone to ask.

Review 22:Beautiful grounds, views and location. Rooms were spacious and clean. Private pool area is fantastic, and worth the additional charge, especially considering most of the beaches charge more and are crowded. Access to wifi without passwords etc.

Review 23:daily payment for the hotel's exclusive beach .

Review 24:Location is second to none. The lifts to town and private beach are wonderful. The grounds are vey well cared for and add delight to the establishment. The staff is very professional and very helpful. The breakfast selection satisfy the most demanding palates. The Restaurant offers excellent menu, and the Sommelier is enthusiastic and knowledgeable offering interesting wine that went well with the dishes ordered.

Review 25:Uncomfortable beds. Rooms are very "plain" and not what you expect for the price. The main problem is that you expect higher level of comfort when you pay €340 per night

Review 26:Location excellent. Friendly staff

Review 27:Notwithstanding the cost of the hotel, having to pay extra to use the beach chairs is absurd and since they also rent them out to locals for the season (who also have first say as to which chairs which remain reserved) and to daily entries, not all are available. No bar or even a vending machine available on the beach area so you have to bring your own supplies for the day. Hot water was lacking during two evenings and the Sunday morning only a trickle of cold water was available. Safe in room is very small. Shower curtain in bath tub. Rooms in the new building are very plain. Could hear noise from other rooms as well. Signs indicating the beach area are missing - not even a temporary sign, so it is easy to get lost in the garden until you know exactly where to go. WiFi does not reach the whole establishment. Breakfast was average, but well stocked.

Review 28:Beach access on the rocks is very nice, secluded and picturesque! Parking is available, views of both bays. Staff are friendly. Breakfast area as well is partly on an outdoor terrace. Elevator access to the town is very comfortable!

Review 29:Bed was uncomfortable and w-ifi was sporadic. Did not love the town of Sestri Lavante, but this property is exceptional.

Review 30:The property is gorgeous and the grotto pool is a highlight. It's worth a stay here just to enjoy the pool, access to ocean, views, grounds and dining.

Review 31:WiFi doesn't exist in rooms or restaurant, just sometimes in the lobby at ancient speed, arrogant manager lies about thick walls. Garden needs major work, dangerous!

Review 32:Ligging perfect maar moelijk via supersteile smalle straat te bereiken,. Restaurant goed, superuitzicht.

Review 33:The location, decorum, and staff were exceptional. The bathrooms were large and modern. The grounds and hotel were well maintained with the perfect mix of medieval and modern charm.

Review 34:Wifi was only accessible near the lobby...since I was on holiday...not a big deal

Review 35:Beautiful views, pleasant staff, the hotel beach was great for snorkeling. The hotel restaurant was very good and other fabulous eateries were within easy walking distance..a great holiday

Review 36:Crazy uncomfortable beds, rock hard. No bedding mattress to soften the surface. Recommend management to spend one night themselves. Everything costs extra, also the access to beach (this should be included), so check what's included in the booking rate. Restaurant staff was a bit unfocused, we had to wait for one hour for the Primo after finishing the starter..

Review 37:The location is amazing, top of the mountain with private solarium. Best location in the city. Great restaurant food and breakfast.

Review 38:We were occasionally disturbed by teenagers shouting and jumping off rocks close to the private swimming area.

Review 39:Staff were brilliant, room was spacious and very comfortably furnished and the food was exceptional. It surpassed our expectations and we aim to return and stay longer!

Review 40:The weird procellain dog statues everywhere. The coffee from the machine on the buffet at breakfast. (One of the hardest things to get wrong in Italy, you'd imagine). It tasted like instant coffee.

Review 41:The jacuzzi in the bathroom. The old furniture and carpet in the rooms. The view in the morning onto the bay of silence. The spacious staircases and lounges and terrace.

Review 42:I enjoyed every single thing in this hotel. The room was nice, spacey and well equipped, the staff was very hospitable, the hotel was lovely, its gardens were marvelous, and the dinners at the restaurant were excellent.

Review 43:No coffee/tea making capabilities in the room. Tour group took over the dining room and bar during mealtimes.

Review 44:One-of-a-kind experience to stay in an ancient castle which has been superbly restored and decorated on a gorgeous Peninsula in Liguria. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was wonderful and the spa rub a real treat!

Review 45:We spent an unforgettable three days. - The location is perfect. - The staff is very friendly. - The hotel is very clean. - I recommend to dine at the restaurant. - Be sure to select the time, visit the hotel's park.

Review 46:This is an incredible place to stay, unique and historic building, great location with the best views. The staff are very friendly and the restaurant is the best we ate at in Italy.

Review 47:The one thing that I would mention is the road leading up to the castle. It is very tight and steep and not a pleasurable experience when you are forced to stop due to on coming traffic. Our hire car was lacking in power and I didn't think that we were going to make it at one point. If you are a nervous driver you need to be aware of this.

Review 48:The castle is in a stunning location and the staff were all friendly and very helpful. The facilities were perfect and the morning breakfast catered for your every need. There is a lift that takes you all the way down to the harbour where you will find lots of beautiful places to eat or drink.

Review 49:As a northern European I missed rustic bread and soft-boiled eggs.

Review 50:The staff, the food, the setting, the buildings (not too surprisingly - being a castle), the garden! Tip: Remember to order your Italian coffee in the morning and do not settle for the coffee machine.

Review 51:One night they had a loud wedding reception but otherwise I just loved it.

Review 52:The castle, the gardens, the secret lifts, the breakfasts, the private beach, the setting, the furniture and artefacts and the staff. Not budget but great value for money. Will definitely come again and recommend it.

Review 53:The nature pool was closed. A hotel like this should have a heated pool round the year.

Review 54:the room with a very nice view, the friendly and helpful stuff.

Review 55:Just the simply view of the beauty of the wondef Ligurian panorama make me feel good.... But the hotel is a remarkable 20th century castle that make me definitely delighted me!

Review 56:We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived the website does not do them justice. It is a great location with private park. Elevator to the docks. Elevator to the private swimming beach and great sunning locations.

Review 57:Wifi not usable in room; shower would not stay in place; hot water not constant- temperature changing frequently; no English language newspapers; inadequate English language tv;I thought the restaurant pricing a bit high- would have been nice to have more mid range priced items.

Review 58:Elevators to town and swimming; grounds; breakfast: staff; comfort of room; parking available

Review 59:The entrance to the pool was a little to be desired but once inside the pool area was great.

Review 60:The ambiance was just gorgeous. The staff was very helpful, the food was good and the location was ideal. I would go back again.

Review 61:Beautiful historic castle hotel. Excellent customer service. Location on the hill directly overlooking Sestre Levante. Gated drive into the grounds. wonderful park with stunning walk around the cliffs overlooking the sea. Roof top terrace. Breakfast terrace. Double aspect views all around. Exquisite.

Review 62:Too expensive for the services offered. Lack of attention to details. Poor choice of food and drinks at the beach bar. No soundproof in the rooms so very noisy day and night in addition if your room is in front of the old and very noisy lift can be extremely unpleasant/annoying and ear plugs are necessary.

Review 63:Excellent location. Nice view from the breakfast room. Handy private parking.

Review 64:Slightly aggrieved about paying extra for sun loungers.

Review 65:Location was fabulous, staff were very helpful and friendly, lovely pool area. Stunning restaurant views.

Review 66:Wi-Fi did not work well, probably due to very thick walls. It is better to go to the breakfast a bit earlier otherwise you need to wait long before food is supplemented.

Review 67:Beautiful Castle, located on the high hill, however there are 2 lifts, taking you to the private beach or to the Marina. Hotel surrounded by amazing private park, there is awesome swimming pool there, with sea water and fishes just passing by your legs, sea view. If the water is calm you can swim from swimming pool directly to the Bay of Fairy Tales. And this breathtaking sunset you can observe from the terrace located on the 3rd floor...

Review 68:Yes, the single is really small. This is not "didn't like" but just the fact.(but it's comfortable and includes a stunning view as extra). I wish the pool was opened till the sunset (not till 19.00). Nothing more.

Review 69:Location is perfect, territory really huge, the private beach ("natural pool") is absolutely safe during stormy days ("pool" is almost separated from the sea but you can swim out to the open sea if the weather is good) and easy reachable by the lift (except wheelchairs and strollers: the path to the lift is quite rocky). The other lift connects the castle to the port and you also could use the car and ordinary road to get to. Staff is competent and very friendly without annoying excessive "hospitality accentuation". Breakfast is wide enough (remember that standard italian breakfast includes coffee and brioche) and you can anyway ask anything additional if you need (I checked it). After my weekend break I've got a feeling of the whole week passed.

Review 70:Pillows (too hard and flat)

Review 71:Building. Views.

Review 72:No coffee making facilities in the room!

Review 73:The structure of the hotel within a castle

Review 74:Lovely grounds with private swimming area

Review 75:Nothing

Review 76:Whole experience was great. Something different from a normal hotel

Review 77:wiev, breakfest...all was perfect. It's beautiful please for relax

Review 80:Almost everything

Review 81:Everything

Review 82:Nothing, everything and more this place is incredible

Review 83:Incredible and friendly staff fantastic breakfast

Review 84:Wi-fi in the room didn't work

Review 85:Great hotel! Lovely atmosphere and location

Review 86:The rocky beach is very nice but there is extra charge

Review 87:excellent service and facilities. The restaurant is also gorgeous.

Review 88:Advertised free wi-if nonexistent in rooms.

Review 89:Great location, unique castle setting and features.

Review 90:Signage needed for way to beach elevator. More whole grain bread options and better eggs.

Review 91:Poor wi fi.

Review 92:Magnificent view from excellent restaurant and from spacious room.

Review 93:Nothing at all.

Review 94:Location, garden, rooms, interior of the castle and friendliness of staff. We loved this castle with its old world charm.

Review 95:Bed was Italy standard (hard)

Review 96:Everything (almost)

Review 97:The hotel is amazing, the staff were all very friendly and helpful, restaurant was brilliant and the grounds / view were all breathtaking

Review 98:The room was cold, and the air-conditioner didn't work very well

Review 99:Perfect location, wonderful private park with a wondeful promenade along the sea

Review 100:Architecture, Location, History, proximity to Cinque Terre and the Ocean

Review 101:There are no comments available for this review

Review 102:Swimming pool

Review 103:Location, staff, privacy, view

Review 104:I liked everything!!

Review 105:views, food, private park, ocean pool, art, linens, staff....everything. This place is divine.

Review 106:Noisy wedding party

Review 107:Location, food, athmosfere

Review 108:Location and private beachfront

Review 109:We couldn't find the lift to the private beach even though we asked reception twice and looked twice. The wifi was poor.

Review 110:This is by far one of the most beautiful hotels we've stayed in. The location and views are spectacular. The room is very comfortable and we had a spa bath which was lovely. The breakfast was excellent and overlooking the marina. There are lots of nice restaurants to choose from. I loved it and would definitely recommend a visit.

Review 111:Nothing negative whatsoever to say about this place!

Review 112:This hotel was a dream! Booked a surprise romantic wknd as b-day gift for my husband and we were both incredibly pleased! The view from our room (on the bay) was amazing - room gorgeous and comfortable - restaurant impressive - beach+cliffside relaxation everything could have wanted and more. The staff thruout was very nice and seemed to go out of their way to take care of us! All in all, this is the kind of easy luxury that a dream wknd on the coast should be - I will definitely be coming back to this hotel and and can recommend it whole-heartedly to anyone looking for a romantic getaway! Beautiful!

Review 113:Did not want to leave. Can't wait to get back.

Review 114:Setting, facilities, grounds were all top rate. Breakfast was remarkable. Stunning views from many locations within the park-like setting of the hotel grounds. Proximity to train station in town (~15 minute walk) made it easy for taking day trips to explore other towns along the coast (Cinque Terre, etc.) but then return to enjoy a lovely dinner in the evening.

Review 115:I was a bit disappointed in the breakfast. Given we were paying 200 euros per night I would have expected a bit better quality and variety. It wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination (and the view was lovely) but it does seem to be quite common in Italy that the cheaper B&Bs do a much better breakfast than many of the fancier, more expensive hotels!

Review 116:Very friendly and professional staff, particularly on reception. Great location, lift made for easy access straight down to the harbour. Great, free parking. Would stay again if was in Sestri Levante.

Review 117:Absolutely nothing

Review 118:I booked one night while passing on my way to Genova on business. This was simply a selection made at random. However the location was simply breathtaking. Staff were excellent and friendly. Room was clean comfortable and well served. Restaurant was again excellent with experienced and attentive staff. I would recommend to anyone.

Review 119:Internet could be a bit more convenient especially on restaurant.

Review 120:Fantastic 'in town but out of town' location. The park is a jewel and everything about the place and staff well above expectations.

Review 121:Felt very dated and musty. Staff, although very friendly, spoke very little English so it was hard to get help. I feel like the rooms were dark and dingy.

Review 122:Location

Review 123:Food at restaurant quite good and portions were large. We splitsalad, appetizer, main course of pasta with fresh seafood, a bottle ofwine for under $100. he restaurant was away from hotel a bit overlookingthe harbor. It has potential for amazing interiors and views. At nightthe inside lights are so bright, hard to see anything but lights. Theinterior design is a bit haphazard, with various levels. It has amazingpotential however. Also, there is a pool table in reception room. Ithink a cozy seating area with a small pub/bar would be a niceaddition to that large space in castle area. Also, it was a cool nightand so quiet we slept with our windows open! We were awakened with theseshrill sounds at 4:00 am! Had no idea what it was until next morning wesaw peacocks. Then, realized, they must be mating! Funny memory!

Review 124:Beautiful views, grounds, hiking trails, unique place to stay on thiscoastline and area. Lift to harbor below allowed quick access to funbars and restaurants of sestri. Beautiful room and bathroom with nicefurniture. Reception allowed us to leave our car there on the groundsfor 2 nights while we toured cinque Terre by train as the hotel was notbusy during week. Safe and secure parking. Will definitely return herefor next visit to the area.

Review 125:All was great - thank you.

Review 126:I loved the location of this hotel and the view over the city at night was gorgeous. It was a good choice for traveling south to Cinque Terre and then north to continue my trip around to France. The hotel staff were wonderful and the ambience of the hotel was ever present - inside and in the expansive gardens. The beach was a bonus and the position of the restaurant was fantastic, overlooking the bay, boats and city. I loved my room (a single) and all the art pieces and sculptures throughout the hotel. The markets in Sestri Levante were packed with delicious things to taste ... yum! Thank you for a great stay.

Review 127:no spirit of an ansient castle, except darkness and humidity in the room... it definitely should be more cozy and friendly. Restaurant service and food is poor

Review 128:the castle itself, breakfast, museum furniture

Review 129:The private beach was univiting & not very accessible & we would certainly not have been prepared to pay to use it. The roof terrace on our floor needed redecorating & no effort had been made to enhance what could have been a very attractive area where even a few plants would make a huge difference. Breakfast was extremely disappointing: considering this is supposed to be a luxury hotel, we had to serve ourselves tea & coffees from a vending machine. In a country with an abundance of fresh fruits, tinned peaches & pineapple are unacceptable. We ate in the restaurant only once & found the food to be over salted & over priced. The waiters were supercilious & not very attentive yet fawned over a table of favoured Italian guests.

Review 130:A wonderful building, beautifully furnished & the room was well appointed. The bathroom was very large and towels were replaced twice a day.

Review 131:I found the check in staff unhelpful and not particularly friendlyunlike other places we had stayed that week the guy in the bar was thesame we left after one drink. Breakfast staff however were friendly andhelpful. Could have been much more choice at breakfast only fresh fruitwas melon disappointing. Pool area looks a bit tatty and disappointedyou would have had to pay for sun loungers etc as this was or 4th jotelin Italy that week and all pools were free as was loungers parasolls etc

Review 132:I thought the hotel was beautiful the surrounding s and the locationgreat it was raining so didn't get to use the pool which wasdisappointing. Room clean and comfortable lovely hotel
