Reviews for Taprobana Wadduwa
Review 1:Absolutely everything else! Terrible service - for a hotel that is trying to attract international clientele, the level of English is terrible. Some staff are just rude! They ripped us off at check out with exchange rate. We paid nearly £200 per night for a hotel that was at best 3 star.
Review 2:The rooms are nice although beds very small for size of room and so is TV
Review 3:1. the hotel FRAUDS with the room price (!!!). We found the hotel for $139 per night for 5 nights. The total check for the 5 nights was $1100+taxes = $1384 (!!!). The hotel explained this is "because you have got new year dinner included for $180 per adult and $90 per child" but we never ordered the dinner and during check-in the hotel offered us to BUY this dinner. We refused, but nevertheless, the hotel still charged us this dinner, so we had to visit it. Even for these crazy money you get a dinner with NO drinks included (!!!) - there were 3 families of us, so our table was worth 480 x 3 = 1440 USD. For 1440 USD (!!!) you dont get DRINKS INCLUDED. You want water for kids? Extra charge. Any juice? Extra charge. And this is in one of the poorest countries in the world where you can eat and drink as much as you want for $50 for whole family in any restaurant. Booking.com has done nothing about it.2. The staff FORGETS to make up rooms. So after 6 hours on the beach you come to a room that is not made up.3. After you make them make up your room, they FORGET to put any towels! :))) So you have to bathe without towels. It continued on and on several days!4. The hotel always lacks beach towels. You come to chaise-lounges and ask for towels and a smiling guy tells you "FINISH!!!" and it at 9am. So you have to walk to the hotel manager to explain him that it's impossible and they MUST provide it since they are a 5-star hotel. Half an hour later they magically find a couple of spare towels. But that's total mess and a 2-3-star level.5. When they check-in some crazy guest above you (in our case an indian family who lived right above us: they were moving furnited for FIVE HOURS after checkin into the room!!! till 2am, and after that they fought for an hour more; hotel staff did NOTHING about it!) -- so when such a guest checks in - hotel does not care. They dont solve the problem.6.
Review 4:great beach, good swimming pool, not many tourists
Review 5:Price on booking is not equal to price that you pay. Because they don't add any taxes to the price on booking but they do it when you checking out. Noting special in breakfast, juses are with water, coffee is really bad quality as well as tea.
Review 6:Pool, good big pool to swim.
Review 7:The food at the restaurant was absolutely(!!!) overpriced and of very bad quality and taste, horrible. Everything came with taxes that nobody told me about in advance so instead of paying 25€ for my dinner, which is already to much, I ended up paying 35! The hotel area was more than small, nice pool but to small, only a treadmill and a crosstrainer in the gym, no weights at all, the beach was not nice. Overall a very disappointing stay that cost me 5 times more than expected and was NOT worth it at all.
Review 8:They upgraded my room for free and the room was absolutely gorgeous, with a beautiful bathroom and a huge bed.
Review 9:Food is little bit overpriced and the choices are limited.
Review 10:Staff was very friendly. The property is managed well, very clean and comfortable. Nice and quite location.
Review 11:Staff inexperienced. God if the length of the bed is a little more than what it is. (I am 6ft 5 Inch)
Review 12:In room dinning and food is great. Spacious rooms. Good ceiling height. Spacious back yard leading to the beach.
Review 13:The Taprobana is a gem of a hotel, right on the Wadduwa beach front. This area is an old coco nut garden and provides an exotic tropical back drop to impress European guests. The pool is large and well provided with lounges and umbrellas’ and extras are located under the exotic palms. The rooms are also large and spotless, and serviced 2-3 or times a day (with bed turn downs etc.). The staff are young and energetic and have all been to the “Hotel School” for correct serving techniques. Occasionally, they do need a little help with the finer points, but they do VERY well. I had a problem with a faulty room safe and these guys worked well to resolve the issue without fuss. And lastly the WIFI works everywhere and is fast enough to stream Face Time video! This is not a “cheap” hotel, but good service does cost. Come back again? Most definately!
Review 14:It did not seem like the hotel was completely finished and ready to accept guests. While we were there a lot of construction work was going on and one of the days it was like being at a construction site in our room due to drilling and hammering. We chose a 4 star hotel because we were traveling with a baby and we knew we had to stay in the hotel and in the hotel room much of the time. Further, the hotel promotes 4 restaurants, which were important to us as we would like to have good choices to eat at the hotel. However, reality was only one restaurant with a low choice of dinner dishes and very overprices considering Sri Lanka prices (room service and the pool bar counted as restaurants... and the restaurant had two names written on the walls = two restaurants... but the same menu...). We found that the Blue Water resort (5 stars) next door had a much better restaurant with better prices as well. Location of the hotel was not in walking distance of any town where we could go and find shops and restaurants. Hotel also promotes a spa. However, this was not finished yet when we came. It opened while we were there, but consists of two rooms with each one massage table where is was possible to buy treatments. To our opinion this does not qualify as a spa.
Review 15:The hotel staff was very nice and the rooms were large with a good view.
Review 16:It was a short stay...
Review 17:Location is good...near to cities... The beach is so near, you just need to walk thru the beautiful garden with palms and funny animals The hotel is new and so cozy..The room is big and light.. The view from the room balcony is amazing..facing the ocean,so u can see beautiful sunset The stuff were just awesome!! So friendly and helpful. They can make u happy with their care The chef was great!! He always asked about the food quality and took special request for the dinners and lunches.. He did something special to us so we will never forget it!! 100000 points from 10
Review 18:Loud music during parties near the pool until 1-00 a.m. Maybe we were unlucky
