Reviews for Hotel La Cisterna

Review 1:I had a little room with no balcony, but this was not their fault as I booked a single room. I am sure that the rooms with balconies overlooking the piazza are fantastic.

Review 2:The location is excellent. The staff very friendly, helpful and professional. I had dinner at the restaurant once and it was very good. The breakfast was excellent and the view from the breakfast room unmatched and beautiful. Really wonderful staff. Thank you!

Review 3:Nothing in particular except that if you are traveling in the autumn time, a lot of restaurants are closed.

Review 4:Location of the hotel is excellent. It's right in the centre of the town. Our room (#81) had a fantastic view of the Tuscan hills.

Review 5:Fantastic location in the heart of San Gimignano. Reasonably priced comfortable hotel with a lot of history. Large comfortable bed, well heated room and a well stocked bathroom. The dinner was excellent with a table in the window overlooking the view at the rear of the hotel again reasonably priced. A generous buffet breakfast in the morning had the same view and it was stunning ! The staff were all friendly, helpful and knowledgeable :-)

Review 6:Make sure you book a superior room, the standard rooms have no views and are a bit claustrophobic.

Review 7:excellent location in the main Piazza of the town, good breakfast in lovely restaurant with Tuscany views -An old renovated complex and has lift for transport of luggage to upper floors

Review 8:Small complaint: we were on the fifth floor and the elevator only goes to the second. Fortunately, we are still "young" enough (barely) to get our bags up the stairs. I guess we could stay lower... Also: parking is a big pain. Cannot park anywhere near the hotel.

Review 9:Great location overlooking Piazza Cisterna. The staff is very nice. The breakfast is good.

Review 10:Acouple of the front desk staff were not very friendly, and on one morning when I went to make a cup of tea in the dining room, a gentleman was not at all helpful

Review 11:We had a beautiful view from our superior room which was quiet We had a very pleasant lady with a ponytail who went out of her way to fix our tv

Review 12:Overall food service was a slow and beyond some 'American' tolerances. The coffee in the mornings was from a vending machine which was disappointing when there was a large 'real' coffee machine behind the bar unmanned.

Review 13:Stunning Hotel view - we had Room 81 which was dual aspect with the most stunning view I have ever seen. Room 82 has a shared terrace and a similar wonderful view. You MUST ensure to book these rooms if you stay here otherwise you will miss-out hugely! We managed to park for free near the hotel also and was wonderful to arrive walking through the ancient streets to the hotel.

Review 14:It was right in the middle of everything...after we found you could drive up to it to unload your suitcases..and then go back down and park it was good. Very good breakfast included.

Review 15:the reception staff where not friendly and couldn't care less about helping us find things to do.

Review 16:The location was good, food was very good, the view of you could get a glimpse, was magnificent.

Review 17:Fantastic views. Eating a delicious breakfast with views like that to start each day is a tonic. Views from our little balcony at the top of the tower were lovely.

Review 18:Room decor is a bit tired Needs updating Parking is not that easy the first time

Review 19:Location is excellent Breakfast room has spectacular view Patience of gentleman receptionist

Review 20:Fantastic location right in the center of town. We were given a room with great views across the countryside. The buffet breakfast was excellent and the breakfast staff were very friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed lingering over breakfast on the corner table with views of the towers.

Review 21:Constant chatter from public and guides outside the window at all hours of the day & night.

Review 22:Loved being in the centre of activity in San Giomignano. Good breakfast, friendly staff and an excellent break.

Review 23:Staff not overly friendly (although we did find this throughout San Gimignano)

Review 24:Beautiful view from the balcony Nice variety of food at continental breakfast Location on the square

Review 25:One female member of staff at front desk was very curt and ill mannered. I assume she must have been tired of attending to guests requests? No need for such a bad attitude. Spoiled an otherwise enjoyable experience.

Review 26:Location was excellent.

Review 27:Wonderful city, hotel was in the perfect position. Our room was large and the beds were the best all holiday. We had a beautiful view of the Tuscan countryside. Wonderful.

Review 28:One morning breakfast was poor because we arrived in b.room after a cycling group who had demolished breakfast fare. Subsequent mornings we rose early to enjoy a much better breakfast.

Review 29:Wonderful room with large balcony and unbeatable view. Charming helpful staff.

Review 30:- parking is 1 km from the hotel (15 EUR) - woman @ desk very unsympatic (man is O.K.) - comfort, very limited, very old - smell in the building (horrible food) - no quality breakfast

Review 31:- the central location in historic building

Review 32:Staff are not overly friendly. 11am check-out

Review 33:Fantastic location right in the heart of San Gimignano. Beautiful views from rooms at the back of the hotel. Fantastic views from the restaurant.

Review 34:The location is perfect, right in the middle of San Gimignano. The Tuscan countryside views from the restaurant, which is used for breakfast too, are nothing short of stunning. The restaurant staff (and all for that matter) are friendly and efficient. Our friend had a single room - with a fantastic view. We were on the ground floor with no view (and although I would request not to repeat this) - it was convenient.

Review 35:A/C didn't work and there weren't any mosquito nets on the windows so the room was a bit warm. Wi-Fi was quite slow. Parking information came in a separate e-mail later which I missed, so we spent over an hour trying to get a parking spot which ended up being over a mile from the hotel.

Review 36:Literally on the main square in a medieval tower, insane panoramic views out of the windows, good restaurant, superb breakfast in the panoramic bar, rooms are very nicely decorated

Review 37:a fantastic help from sweet Christina. A lot of thanks to you. and besides still the same beautiful place as our stay at La Cisterna 25 years ago Hanne and Ole Risør.

Review 38:Could hear the people in the room next door to me - walls are not super thick; Price was a little on the higher side; Leaving the key all the time is something that most hotels in Italy do not do anymore

Review 39:Well-situated; private terrace; Good breakfast buffet included in the price; easy to navigate the village from the hotel; quiet despite central location; Amazing views; Would stay here again in a heartbeat

Review 40:Very awkward driving through the town to get to the hotel, we had a big car and getting through the narrow streets was difficult

Review 41:The hotel was in the perfect location of a beautiful town with amazing views and immersed in history. Lovely little shops and bars.

Review 42:Unfortunately my room was a bit noisy at periods during the day when the kitchen was operating on the first floor but it was worth it for the view.

Review 43:The friendly staff and the location of the hotel is hard to beat. Right in the centre of the city it is easy to walk to any of the attractions. The view from my balcony room was magical.

Review 44:Wifi service very poor. Bathroom could have been cleaner. The breakfast was poor of choice. Egg machine antiquated and coffee machine broke. Could have been better organised, although staff were very helpful.

Review 45:The rooms where lovely. Hotel restaurant food and service great. Bar staff very pleasant if a little busy, reception staff very helpful and all were extremely curtious and polite. Views breath taking.

Review 46:Room furniture was so old, ugly & outdated. Furniture in the hallways looks more like a storage area than décor .Staff not particularly very friendly .

Review 47:View from breakfast room & location.

Review 48:The hotel needs a make-over, it feels a bit out dated. The interner is intermittant and the food served at breakfast is below Italian standard, it is ok, but not more than that. On busy days, it can be difficult to reach the hotel, best to follow the instructions of the hotel.

Review 49:The hotel is situated at the main square in San Gimignano, which is ideally to explore the city. In front of the hotel, you do have a lovely terrace and the food served is good. he view of the rooms are stunning.

Review 50:15 min walk to car park up fairly steep hill, but you do get to walk through the shop lined main street on the way up! Bathroom a little dated but the view from the bedroom made up for it.

Review 51:Amazing location in center of the old town. We're able to park outside hotel for 30 mins to unload bags. Great view from our bedroom over the square. Vast views of the valley from the dining room at dinner and breakfast.

Review 52:Horrible, unfriendly, unhelpful staff. No A/C. They put it at a certain degree and you can't change it. No Wifi it does not work. Mean Staff. Uncomfortable furniture, no mirror, small bathroom. We were treated like slaves who were staying for free.

Review 53:Great location, beautiful views, but that's about it.

Review 54:Internet Service was so so.

Review 55:Friendly staff, great location and air conditioning was great considering we were there in the middle of a heatwave. My husband didn't like the room we reserved on line and we were able to upgrade our room for not that much more.

Review 56:The staff was fabulous! They were very friendly and assisted me with anything from the air conditioning, to arranging a wine tour to arranging transportation. We had dinner at the restaurant upstairs and it was amazing! Breakfast was far better than many places, very good spread.

Review 57:Ants in the room :(( The coffee at breakfast from the instant coffee machine. Wifi didn't work.

Review 58:Location, hotel in general, views from breakfast room, breakfast.

Review 59:Now call me picky but whoever designed the bed 'arrangement' in this room is deranged ..where there should be a headboard there is just a huge gap and no matter how you contort....oh enough. With that view they're forgiven

Review 60:We were lucky enough to get room 82...which apart from being recently refurbished had the best view of Tuscany you're ever likely to clap your eyes on....a large shared terrace....oh what a view!

Review 61:Nothing

Review 62:We had room 83 with a balcony ,the view was incredible . In the morning the breakfast was great and the view was also incredible . It is nice at the end of the day to be there after all the bus tours and the daily visitors are gone .It is very peaceful .

Review 63:This was a great hotel, beautiful view of the Tuscany from the breakfast room and the breakfast was fantastic!! Our staffs was friendly the room was small but clean with a great view.

Review 64:Nothing not to like. It was all good.

Review 65:Perfect place to stay in San Gimiginano.Couldnt be more central. Exellent help from all the staff. Beautiful views from breakfast room. Highly recommended

Review 66:There is not one thing I did not like about our stay here.

Review 67:Make sure you get a room with balcony that has a view of the countryside. You will never forget it. The room is pretty basic, but it still deserves a 10 for it's a great location and the balcony view being so exceptional. Breakfast is generous too.

Review 68:First room they had us in was not what I thought I had booked. But they moved us next day and room was much better. Bit more room to move around in.

Review 69:The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 70:Absolutely nothing negative to say about this hotel.

Review 71:Very relaxed hotel, great location, friendly, helpful staff, good restaurant, good value. Ask for a room with view/balcony at the rear of hotel.

Review 72:The renovations of the old rooms into the new style feel a little cold. Very clean, no complaints there but there need to add some more character considering the rooms have amazing balconys facing the countryside.

Review 73:we had a room with a balcony terrace.Worth every penny! You can't beat the location right in the square. Staff in The Restaurant are extremely helpful and friendly. Food was fantastic. We are coming back in Sept. for our wedding outside of the town but plan to spend two nights before in La Cisterna. They helped organise a meal for our family the night before the wedding and they couldn't have been nicer.

Review 74:Its breakfast, restaurant facility with such a magnificent view. Its wonderful convenience right in the centre of a famous heritage town still operating even when full of tourists during the day was very emptied out at night and so was possible to experience the piazza which we overlooked as quietly resting and atmospheric......a little piece of history perhaps as it once was and to experience as a place people still lived in and loved.....especially during Easter...

Review 75:None

Review 76:Fantastic location at the most beautiful piazza of the village. Room for 4 was spacious with separate room for the children and the breakfast was great with awesome view. Fair price for what was offered.

Review 77:parking outside the city walls but everyone has to do it for stays in San G.

Review 78:1. Balcony with view 2. Quality and cleanliness 3. Location, Location and location 4. Quietness

Review 79:Everything from the location to the beautifully decorated rooms with the painted furniture, the views, the restaurant (its setting, food, staff). Location, of course, right on the town square. Management were delightful and most helpful.

Review 80:Some difficulties with wi-fi. Staff on the reception is not really attentive.

Review 81:Amazing view from the window! I stayed in the single room with the breathtaking view to the valley. Very nice furniture in the room. For 3*** breakfast is pretty rich. Nice staff in the restaurant

Review 82:I did like everything in the Cisterna, very friendly staff, nicely decorated room with great bathroom and...really good breakfast, comparing to other hotels in Italy!!!

Review 83:My single room was quite comfortable but very small with window opening on to inner stone wall. Specify "room with a view" when booking to avoid disappointment. Be prepared for a steep walk from extra-mural car parks (not hotel's fault!).

Review 84:We had been to San Gimignano on previous holidays and I hoped we might one day return and stay at La Cisterna. Location is delightful, in a beautiful main square. The view from both breakfast room and restaurant is breathtakingly lovely, the archetypical Tuscan landscape. Good buffet breakfast. Superb restaurant, remarkably modest prices for this quality. Very welcoming and helpful reception and restaurant staff. City at its best in the evening when it has a lovely, quiet atmosphere. About 1 hour's drive to Florence, less to Siena.

Review 85:Very enjoyable stay in a prime location right in the central piazza of San Gimignano. Very friendly staff, rooms are very clean and well maintained with a daily maid service.

Review 86:The wifi was very slow and intermittent and no drinks facilities in the room. A fair hike from the parking to the hotel but you can drive to drop off bags.

Review 87:We liked the location and the views, well worth the extra for the balcony and the breakfast was not too bad when compared with others

Review 88:There is no parking within the town's walls so we had to park outside and walk to the hotel (first day you could drop off bags and then park) It was always uphill! Sometimes there was no parking space so one had to wait. I cannot say any more because I liked everything else . The town, the buildings and the people.

Review 89:The location of the hotel in the square ensured that there was always something going on. Hotel had an area outside for eating. The staff were more than helpful and spoke good English. There are amazing views of the Tuscan scenery particularly from the restaurant. The room was a good size well equipped and comfortable.

Review 90:Although BBC was listed on the TV, we couldn't get it. We mentioned it to three different people on reception. Each one said they would come and check it out, but no one ever did, and never mentioned it again. It would have been better if they had come straight out and said it just wasn't available - we would have understood - instead of promising something they didn't deliver. We would have liked to watch English language news, but no big deal if it wasn't available.

Review 91:This is a lovely hotel in a great location - right on Piazza della Cisterna. We had a very nice room with a balcony overlooking the piazza, which we really enjoyed because we could sit there and watch all the activities and listen to the entertainment in the evenings. The views of the countryside from the dining room are stunning. The breakfast was nice - cold meat, cheese, eggs that you could boil if you wanted one, cereals, yogurt, fruit, breads, etc. Everything was very clean, and we would definitely stay there again, although next time in a room with a balcony overlooking the countryside.

Review 92:Staff not friendly Breakfast very disappointing Rooms need updating

Review 93:Hotel is in the centre of San Giminiano but is very old so rooms need updating a bit. Staff not very friendly. We were on the ground floor which was quite quiet so we slept well. The restaurant has stunning views and we had dinner there and the food was really good. Breakfast was really disappointing.

Review 94:San Gimignano is a small medieval town and certain days attract a multitude of cruise tours which clogs up the small town - but it is a great location if you want to experience the Chianti and Brunello wine regions.

Review 95:Very warm facility in San Gimignano and close to everything to do in Tuscany. Very helpful staff and fluent in English. All of their dining recommendations were spot on. Will do again in the future!

Review 96:We had to leave!

Review 97:Room had a balcony that we could enjoy a glass of wine before dinner overlooking vineyards and olive groves. Two of the mornings we saw a hot air balloon traveling over the misty morning clouds over countryside. Food and view from restaurant was spectacular!

Review 98:Parking is a good walking distance away and no discount for short stay. EUR 20/day in P2 which is the closest parking area. You cook the breakfast egg yourself; so if you think the eggs in the basket are hard boiled you will be mistaken. :-) Another guest made the experience...

Review 99:Fantastic location. Restaurants close by. Good spacious room.

Review 100:No coffee facilities in room (or in hotel for guests), room on the small side.

Review 101:Location, location, location - on the main square of San Gimignano, with a great view over the hills of Tuscany! Breakfast great! Friendly, helpful staff. Allowed us to book in hours before normal time as our room was available.

Review 102:Hotel front desk not helpful. Specially the girl. Gave incorrect information and gave an attitude when asked a question. No help from the staff to locate the room which was not easily accessible with the luggage.

Review 103:Centrally located Clean hotel Nice view from room and reataurant

Review 104:Great location & very helpful staff. We are walking the via francigena and the restaurant gave us a lovely pack lunch with fruit & pasta. They also, on request, gave us a very early breakfast at 6.15am. Wonderful staff. Thank you.

Review 105:This was the most charming hotel ever...from the setting to the room decor to the balcony overlooking a gorgeous vista. The staff of this multi-generational family business could not have been nicer..so helpful with every thing we needed, and so thoughtful with making our stay a delight. We will definitely be back!

Review 106:Nothing to complain about the hotel. We loved Toscany very much, but I would recommend to travel there in the off season and avoid San Gimignano and the most of the other medieval villages in the middle of August as it is completely full of tourists! This is not where you will discover "real" Italy.

Review 107:The hotel was very nice as the pictures show. The room was spacious and the view towards the countryside of Toscany was simply amazing. If you want to stay in San Gimignano, this is the place to go.

Review 108:Can't honestly say there is anything we disliked about the hotel or staff.

Review 109:We have used this hotel several times in the past. We find the location in the centre of san gimignano ideal - the staff are most helpful and the views from the bedrooms we have used are stupendous.

Review 110:The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful, the room I found it clean, even though I booked a single room, I found myself surprised that the room had a beautiful balcony overlooking the Tuscan countryside. The signal of wifi I found it powerful, breakfast very varied.

Review 111:Premises should undergo a restyling. However the one thing we disliked the most is the check out time that is so early (11am).

Review 112:Central location and view. The restaurant too is good

Review 113:Room 61 is right under the Reasturant and noisey at night. In their in room instructions it says they have a bus timetable which the front of desk didn't appear to know about, but we managed to pick one up from the Tobacco store. Read carefully as the top symbols represent the days of the weeks.

Review 114:We stayed for three nights and just loved the location and the view from our balcony over the amazing country side.Sitting outside at their cafe was wonderful people watching and the Vino Rose was wonderful. The bus connection was great to Poggibonsi for you either to pick up a train or bus to anywhere else in Italy. An amazing place to stay!! You can purchase your train tickets at the station where the bus drops you off, there are machines inside the station.

Review 115:Wi-Fi connection only lasted 2 minutes at a time requiring resigning in every time. Took a long time to find. Not made aware we could have driven our car to the door to unload luggage, wasn't told this by the hotel clerk when we arrived, so we schlepped our bags a very long way up hill to the hotel.

Review 116:Beautiful location. Beautiful room. Excellent meals

Review 117:The staff at reception could have been more welcoming and friendly.

Review 118:My room was quiet, clean and comfortable with a wonderful view of the countryside from the small private balcony. The breakfast room was spacious, also with wonderful views, and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel's position is fantastic, and as most of the visitors to the square leave early, it was quiet during the night.

Review 119:A room with a view of the Tuscan hills isn't guaranteed. We paid to upgrade to a quadruple room as the rooms overlooking the town square are noisy. Breakfast is only continental style unless you pay for scrambled eggs etc.

Review 120:View of the Tuscan landscape is amazing from the rooms. Quadruple room is extremely large.

Review 121:Hotel is in a great location, staff is friendly, and the restaurant is very good. Although small, the rooms are clean and cozy. We had a balcony with an excellent view of the Tuscan countryside.

Review 122:Fantastic location. Room was big and the staff provided a baby cot as requested. As we had to check out early in the morning the man on reception arranged us a take-away breakfast which we were very grateful of. Was a bit of a walk from the car park to hotel so best to pack light if possible.

Review 123:The table and the cabinet in the room are too old and not match the decoration. The bed is uncomfortable to sleep.

Review 124:Good quality dinner in reasonable price at comfortable restaurant. The staff is helpful.

Review 125:The mountain towns of Italhy are unique -- requiring exgtra effort because vehicles are not permitted. But it is worth taking a car to the hotel, iunloading, then parking on the ring outside of town. Great history -- very good views --and excellent hotel restaurant!

Review 126:Staff totally disinterested - returned back to her Facebook page as soon as we paid for the room by check out. Everything is outdated and bathroom is a disaster. Beds are uncomfortable. The picture they published does not correspond with the reality at all: they probably collected all nice pieces from all rooms and put it in one room to make the picture for advertising purposes. Total waste of money.

Review 127:The view from the room is the only good thing about this hotel.

Review 128:Best location in San Gimignano. Very kind personnel, clean rooms, good breakfast.

Review 129:Location unica immersa nel suggestivo borgo antico
