Reviews for Parkhotel Valkenburg

Review 1:The lighting in the room was too dim.

Review 2:The cleanliness of the hotel, availability of clean linen. The staff spoke English and good service. Christmas dinner was fantastic 10/10 rating. Walking distance to the town center where there are many restaurants serving different cuisines. The wellness facilities were fantastic.

Review 3:The attitude of some of the staff. We booked dinner in the hotel for 7.30 when we arrived although we were told this would not be necessary but when we went to eat they could not find the booking and were very dismissive. We we pent back to reception who assured us we were booked in but even when they tried to contact the restaurant the restaurant staff did not answer the phone. We were kept waiting for nearly an hour which we felt was unacceptable. We were not even offered a drink until we actually pushed one of the staff to get one for us. There appeared to be no one in charge. It was really a poor start to our stay. We did not bother attempting to eat there again as the food wasn't, particularly good. There are far better restaurants a short walk away

Review 4:The position was great and the bedrooms very good.

Review 5:Charged €11 for breakfast for my 15 month old, which I though a bit off since everywhere else offers for free (given the tiny amount she eats). €5 charged for city tax on €80 room so not the 5% mentioned. Decor is old and appears dusty, not sure if it actually was.

Review 6:Superb location, just a short walk to the centre. Budget hotel ideal for a short trip.

Review 7:Disappointing. Room was very old, very small, cold and not very clean. Heating was off on arrival, we turned it on but it stopped working in the middle of the night. The mattress was worn down and not comfortable Room had very high ceilings but was tiny as a shoe box, there wasn't even space to open a suitcase. Bathroom had been renewed more recently but it wasn't very functional No shampoo, shower cap or any other bathroom products, just a hand-soap dispenser. To top it all off: 3 big spiders on the ceiling and some other crawling bug roaming around the bathtub I didn't like the fact that they charged us for the stay on arrival, I've never seen that anywhere else and the parking was not included and we had to pay separately. In short: the hotel is far away from 4-star standards and way too expensive for what you get.

Review 8:Location is good, the indoor pool is OK and the building itself is beautiful.

Review 9:That the welcome drink could not be served at the dinner table. It took quite a while to prepare lunches for 20 people

Review 10:The kindness of the staff. The facilities for little children, the swimming pool, the books, magazines, local information and maps in the lounge. The qulity of the dinner, breakfast and lunch.

Review 11:The sink was right on top of the toilet. The shower was tiny with a curtain. The exhaust fan could not be turned off and it continuously whined. The door key fob was heavy and made of brass which caused your hands to smell from touching it. One had to go to the back of the building to enter the hotel.Limited selection for breakfast. For what you got the price was rather high.

Review 12:Parking...though it needed to be paved. The location of the hotel was a short 5 minute walk to the center of town.

Review 13:Bathroom was excelkent apart from the pressure in the shower this was appalling in both the double and the single bathroom, we could use the bath instead in the double but there was no alternative in the single room

Review 14:excellent position and facilities, enjoyed the pool and jaccuzzi, although room was a little on the small side, but the price reflected that!

Review 15:If anything, the facility might look a little old, but this is part of the charming environment. A careful renovation of some detail might help.

Review 16:Valkenburg is a beautiful place. The hotel is located close enough to the center to walk and far enough to be nice and quiet. The staff is most helpful and friendly. The wellness facilities are excellent, a large pool to swim laps, sauna, whirlpool and all. Great stay!

Review 17:I don't normally complain as we are easy going but that said if you are travelling from the UK and don't read Dutch you will be like us...clueless. there are no brochures or information on what is available in the hotel in English, I asked for one but they didn't have any ? you are not made aware on the info on Booking.Com that in the sauna steam room and wet areas Swimming Costumes are not allowed so you need a Towel and Robe (if like us you haven't taken one you can hire them for 12.50 euros.) It says Free Toiletries in the description = soap dispenser on the wall so take your own . Gym has 8 pieces of equipment and the floor has holes in it and its very tired in there. Take your own tea and coffee and maybe buy some uht milk as you get 3 fruit teas & 1 English tea 2 coffee's 4 sugars and 2 creamers that's it no milk (tea with creamer isn't nice) Room was tidy but bedside table still had sticky cup rings on and the headboard had greasy marks where others had sat in bed which were missed on the next clean too so could have been better. Enjoyed the stay just expected a little more for the 223 euros for 2 nights... Finally I booked in Jan 2015 for August 29th 2015 with a request for an elevated room we were roadside floor 0 (Also be aware No English Brochures or Signs in Valkenburg either which seems a bit odd, maybe not many English go But its a Beautiful place to visit)

Review 18:The Hotel Looks great from outside and is quite impressive inside, there is ample parking and its a nice easy walk into the centre which has lots of character and places to eat and drink, there is a lift to all floors if you need one and the rooms are quite spacious the staff were also friendly and polite. The Pool is nice and Jacuzzi quite good too. nice views from the terrace.

Review 19:Very poor and supersmall room at street level! Heavy traffic noise with open windows, remarkable traffic noise with closed windows! Terrific smell due to use of pesticides (confirmed by receptionist!) Hotel was not able to offer another room and refused refund!

Review 20:Booked a suite months in advance for a surprise birthday weekend. However the room that I booked and paid for was not available when arrived. However staff were apologetic.

Review 21:Worst 4* Hotel ever visited, in average more like a 2* Hotel - No real double beds in an official double bed room, i.e. two single beds are simply pushed together - Hotel only has one type of pillows, square and very stuffed (hope you sleep on your back). In addition our pillows were very old and hand lumps inside(!) - Stuffy rooms, No AirCon only a 10-20 year old ventilator making a lot of noise - Bad breakfast. Limited variety and cheap products. In addition in our case the butter had previously melted/was old (was exchanged by very friendly and appologizing staff) - Unfriendly/incompetent reception Overall: Don’t go unless you have to

Review 22:Not much. Only positive point was the extremely friendly and apologizing staff in the Restaurant area.

Review 23:When we were looking for the hotel we initially drove past as the signing was not very good, especially as the entrance is on a corner.

Review 24:All round it was a good stay.

Review 25:Due to wooden floors, the room is really noisy. We could hear the upstairs neighbors walking, and therefore couldn't sleep until midnight, when they finally went to bed.

Review 26:Breakfast, location, and bathroom were great.

Review 27:We had to park in the upper carpark which was quiet a walk to reception.

Review 28:Very comfortable room and freindly staff, beds very comfortable. Unfortunately ther was no time to try out the swimming pool or other facillities

Review 29:Poor room lay out. There was no table or lamp on one side of the bed. In fact the person on that side had no access to light in the night

Review 30:Location, breakfast and bar staff

Review 31:This is 4 star rated hotel. But there are missing several things , like bathroom shampoo bottles and other little bathroom things, like slippers, the soil is cold . The room is relatively dark, not too many lightspots. The mattresses are too soft. The reception place is not clearly marked. like the elevator. Main dinner courses were of medium quality .And you have to order before 20.30.

Review 32:I liked the room size and its costs ( a junior suite at 128 € ). During the night , there is hardly any outside noise.

Review 33:We booked a large family room to end up with a small tiny room! Staff did not inform us at check-in and charged us upfront. We had to complain heavily to finally get a larger room. For dinner we tried to get an a la carte menu, which was not available. Ordered the chef menu which had fish (very dry with bones) - midway through the dinner realised that other people were eating steak!! There was no mention of the lack of a la carte menu at any time nor was there any alternative offered.

Review 34:clean tidy welcoming hotel, staff very friendly excellent restaurant. excellent facilities within five minute walk of town centre. we could not find any fault at all.

Review 35:The room was dark. The bathroom was extremely dimly lit. Not enough lighting. The reception area looked makeshift like it did not belong there.

Review 36:The location was great. Room was large and comfortable. The restaurant was beautiful for dinner.

Review 37:One side of the double bed was sunk in and I would have liked to have been on an upper floor so as to have a better view. The wifi came and went a bit, but overall I would probably stay again

Review 38:The town was lovely and the proximity to the landmarks and Christmas markets was wonderful; walked everywhere

Review 39:Absolutely nothing.

Review 40:Everything about the place was surprisingly better than we expected. We would book again and recommend it to others (already have done so). In addition, we can't possibly say enough good things about the cheerful demeanor, helpfulness, knowledge and all-around excellent staff. Did I mention breakfast was also superb?

Review 41:Rude barman who skulked around on Sat evening like a scolded cat, extremely rude to at least four different groups of English people and kept everyone waiting at least 20 minutes to get a drink.

Review 42:Hotel, pool, breakfast.

Review 43:bed was a bit soft shower was not powerful and cubicle leaked

Review 44:tea and coffee available in room staff were very friendly and very helpful swimming pool and jacuzzi

Review 45:Renovation going on so a little disarray. Room was cold. Long thick curtains help the heat to the windows which is OK but also kept it from the room. Live with curtains fully open exposed to the world or be cold. Fitness facility needs an update. Hopefully that will be part of the renovations.

Review 46:The hotel is 400 meters from the heart of Valkenburg so only a short walk to restaurants and such which is nice. Nice pool and sauna open late. Parking for only 5Euro right at the hotel. Friendly staff

Review 47:Comfort of the "second" beds were not the best one. Half of the family could not sleep well.

Review 48:wellness center really good! And very good breakfast.

Review 49:2 receptions 1 closed on different levels quite confusing.my room opposite open reception and could be quite noisey.

Review 50:almost a perfect stay.did not have the breakfast a little expensive so ate in town.had a balcony which was great and needed as a very hot room.pool great.will stay again

Review 51:our room was literally located across from the front desk, with a sleeping 3 year old, less than ideal, the photos make the hotel look a little more modern or renovated than reality

Review 52:convenience to the town centre was nice

Review 53:I realize it is an older building which has its charm but the publicareas had chairs that you were in danger of falling out of when you satin them because they were so rickety. Also, the reception area is verydark and could use much better lighting in that area.

Review 54:The value for this hotel was great. The staff were so helpful and evenprinted off local directions to some sites! Rooms were small butcomfortable. It was a good location and a comfortable walk from the towncenter. The spa and fitness area and swimming pool made me wish I hadremembered to bring my swimsuit!

Review 55:The Wifi was extremely slow. There was a lot of missing tiles in the hallway and buckets in the hallway that I assume were for catching dripping water. The main part of the hotel was nice but the basement wing needs to be repaired so it does not detract from the overall opinion of the hotel.

Review 56:Location and breakfast was excellent. The room was comfortable.

Review 57:Air conditioning in public areas, especially corridors and lift.

Review 58:Reception staff very helpful, pleasant to deal with. Housekeeping very cheerful and efficient.

Review 59:Having to pay for parking that was on the hotel grounds. Should be free to paying guests.

Review 60:Family room was lovely and big. The breakfast had a wide variety of items which were all fresh and delicious. Location perfect - could easily walk into town and short drive to Maastricht.

Review 61:The ongoing renovations which meant we had no idea what was where, paying at the start before we even saw the rooms. Not being given a receipt for payment, having to ask for signature instead. The bedrooms allocated as doubles were most assuredly singles with a double bed. Dangerous, an electric kettle took up the only space on the bedside cabinet. Cups and spoons dangled from the headboard along with tea and coffee . You could not move in the tiny bathroom which had a small shower and a very long wash basin. This meant to sit on the loo, one had to be careful how they got through the space. On getting up there was so little space I banged my shoulder off the wash basin. We were given no information about towels for the pool which resulted in going back to our room very wet. At breakfast the food was cold and workers were sanding doors where food was being prepared in the kitchen. I made an appointment the night before to see the manager at 9.30. When I checked next morning if it was still ok I was more or less interrogated, what time did you make the booking, with whom, what was the managers name, aggressive to say the least. Needless to say she was not available, but I assured the receptionists I would be sending a formal complaint. I have stayed in this hotel before any renovations and although old I experienced none of these things. The modernisation is dreadful.

Review 62:The swimming pool. The location, we knew this as we have been to the hotel twice before.

Review 63:The hotel was undergoing some refurbishment but it didn't affect or detract from our stay. The hotel bar closes at 10pm but I think this may have been a local thing aw many of the other bars did too but we found one hotel close by which was still open.

Review 64:Location of the hotel was excellent. The facilities were also good with having a spa. Friendly and pleasant staff. Plenty of parking.

Review 65:Food, cold in room. Needs refurbishing.

Review 66:Location, parking.

Review 67:The gym was closed, temporary provisions could have been provided

Review 68:Only a short walk from the center of town, but lots of on site parking.
