Reviews for Franklin Manor

Review 1:although room stunning, spa bath is literally a bath with jets not a corner spa for 2! No dinner or room service. beautiful area for breakfast should be open for guests in the evening. wifi only works in a few places.ie main downstairs area

Review 2:Greeted by lovely overzealous staff who couldn't do enough to help. Breakfast healthy (only continental), grounds stunning, rooms exceptionally clean. Attention to detail very much noted and appreciated. Close to amenities and town. The best stay in Tasmania by far! Thank-you..will definately visit again

Review 3:Christine and Craig were excellent hosts who went out of their way to ensure we had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. This is a charming hotel, very well run and in an ideal location. The continental breakfasts were delicious and very substantive. Happy to recommend this hotel to others.

Review 4:Although bed sheets and pillows were new and clean; however, the chair and the carpet appeared to be old.

Review 5:The owners were friendly and exceptionally helpful. Car parks were available.

Review 6:Breakfast was amazing. The manor is furnished with beautiful old furniture and has been decorated with detail, warmth and taste. It's a lovely house with exceptional service for guests.

Review 7:The location is fantastic and the owners are lovely people who go out of their way to make your stay nicer. The house itself is also quite beautiful and it is only a (very) short walk into the town of Strahan.

Review 8:Our hosts, including the relieving hosts were excellent- helpful and friendly. Great old house, great grounds, comfortable room. Excellent breakfast included.

Review 9:The Wi-Fi is only available in the lounge downstairs which is a disadvantage. Franklin Manor serves Continental Breakfast; we thought that the offering was adequate at best, particularly as the prices are at the high end.

Review 10:The people standing on for the owners were exceptionally helpful and did everything to make our stay a good experience - well done Annie! The location is delightful.

Review 11:Very friendly & welcoming hostess. Makes you feel at home straight away. Breakfast was included in the rate & had an extra freshly made dish everyday.

Review 12:Not really a complaint but more a wish to improve - Wifi only available in a few areas of property.

Review 13:Lovely position in Strahan, brilliant welcome from hosts, assistance in booking trips, free wifi, tasty continental breakfast with fresh fruits a variety of cereals and freshly baked pastries.

Review 14:Although breakfast was very nicely presented with all the fruit, toast etc, but when one does not like honey, jam, peanut butter etc for BF, a small piece of cheese, or maybe a boiled egg would be great.

Review 15:The friendliness and helpfullness of the owners. We did a cruise on the Gordon river, Christine booked it for us, got great seats. We loved the overall ambiance.

Review 16:liked the comfortable room, making it very restful. the surrounding gardens added to the ambience. management very obliging and provided a great breakfast with lovely muffins.

Review 17:The hosts welcomed us so warmly into their beautiful home. The idyllic setting was extremely calming. This is absolutely the best B&B we have ever stayed in.

Review 18:Beautifully renovated property with excellent , large lounge and dining rooms. Vey friendly reception from managers. Good continental breakfast provided. Short walk to wharf area.

Review 19:Nothing. This is an exceptionally well run place. The hosts have experience in other high quality facilities and it shows - every little detail showed real care and attention.

Review 20:Everything. The mansion is beautifully restored and the place has superb atmosphere and character. The hosts were charming, fun and very welcoming. Breakfasts were first class and a real pleasure. My wife and I and my mother all loved our stay here.

Review 21:Anyone who writes here is far too hard to please !!!!

Review 22:Brilliant welcome from Christine & Craig felt more like a homestay where we knew the hosts...Extra bits to make everyone feel so at home, flowers, welcome, felt like we were leaving old friends when we departed...beautifully kept home and gardens. Loved every minute there and all due to Christine and Craig.. Will be back on our next trip. Many thanks.

Review 23:Everything,location fantastic, everything within walking distance, which was great, lovely mansion style house, the hosts were wonderful, beautiful people, breakfast just divine every morning, specially the freshly home baked muffins, yummy.

Review 24:Nothing.

Review 25:The warmth of the house its beautiful wood fireplace and the warm hospitality of the hosts-Christine and Craig made it truly special. Thank you both. The breakfast was super as were the freshly baked muffins.

Review 26:The beautiful setting of the manor. The simple but lovely breakfast provided. The attention to detail from the hostess, ensuring our stay was comfortable, eg breakfast routine, where to eat out.

Review 27:hot water could have been slightly hotter for shower, although not a problem

Review 28:the feel of the place was welcoming the staff were like family were else do you get home made muffins and biscuits, breakfast is excellent. good location

Review 29:Driveway is quite dark in the night without lights. Can be a hazard for some older guests.

Review 30:Christine & Craig are lovely people Very warm and friendly They passionately made good muffins, cookies and muesli breakfast and share It's just perfect

Review 31:A little tired...room smelled a bit musty...very thin walls so had no sleep due to person snoring all night in next room...hosts had many do's and don'ts rules so felt uncomfortable about being there.

Review 32:Good location

Review 33:Bed & room were comfortable, facilities very good and breakfasts enjoyable & tasty. Also catered for gluten intolerance. Hosts were very helpful.

Review 34:Having too leave to early Strahan is well worth a visit

Review 35:The hosts went above and beyond making us feel at homecoming. The house was beautiful lovely common lounges our room was beautiful. The bed was very comfortable

Review 36:Christine & Craig were great hosts. The property is magnificent, a beautiful "heritage style" property. You'd be crazy not to stay here!

Review 37:The whole house is very dated and needs to be modernised. Musky smells is a turn off in many areas of the house. Breakfast is basic. Old door locks need to be more user friendly particularly for older guests. No one available to help with suitcases up flights of stairs.

Review 38:Location good particularly in the busy season well away from the noisy main street.

Review 39:Our hosts Christine and Craig were wonderful. Nothing was a trouble. Christine's home baked muffins and biscuits each day were delicious. Beautiful old home with lots of history.

Review 40:Every aspect of our stay was outstanding and enjoyable. Sumptuous breakfasts were on offer as well as luxurious bedding and facilities in our room. Christine and Craig were most attentive to our needs.

Review 41:Franklin Manor is an unusual type of accommodation, being a large old home converted to hotel rooms. As soon as we walked in the door, Christine made us feel right at home. She provided us with great information about local restaurants and provided us with beautiful home made muffins and muesli for breakfast.

Review 42:No electric blanket therefore had a blower heater all night.

Review 43:Luxurious furnishings in a heritage home managed by a wonderful couple who cared for their guests

Review 44:Nothing I didn't like particularly but it would have been good if the room had a DVD player given the lack of nightlife in Strahan.

Review 45:Everything was beautiful and very clean. The house was lovely and had a lot of character. The open fires in the lounge areas were great. Room was quite large and had a lovely window seat and armchairs for reading.

Review 46:Christine and Peter went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one as well as a comfortable one. The breakfasts were amazing with Chrisfine's fresh muffins and Bircher muesli each morning were a great beginning to our day.

Review 47:Free wifi did not work in all parts of the building.

Review 48:It starts with the warm welcome by the hosts, followed by a guided tour of the facilities. The room was large and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was only continual but was perfect. Location easy walking distance to evening dining and the Gordon River Cruises. Just beautiful.

Review 49:Cosy log fires tended diligently by staff. Delicious homemade muffins and biscuits freely available.Spacious rooms and easy to find a quiet spot to sit and relax within facility.

Review 50:No mobile reception. Noise travels as older building-but okay.

Review 51:Staff & Management excellent. Bed and feather doonas/pillows excellent. Great Continental breakfast - with fresh baked muffins and bircher muesli.

Review 52:A bir pricey and promised a breakfast but it was only cereals and fruit . No cooked breakfast which is usually implied in the term "B and B".

Review 53:General comfort and location

Review 54:was all good

Review 55:Franklin Manor was a beautiful older home providing bed and breakfast very comfortable lovely gardens and a short walk into the main street of town

Review 56:Room/ suite was in need of a refurb with very 'tired' decor and drab furnishings. Cupboard for fridge/TV had door fronts missing, sash window and light fitting were in need of repair.

Review 57:Helpful & friendly hosts.

Review 58:Our hosts made us extremely welcome from the moment we arrived, the room was spotless, comfortable and well provisioned. The facilities offered a variety of options to relax and enjoy spare moments. The breakfast was tasty and home made, loved the muffins and muesli. Overall best accommodation value of our trip.

Review 59:A very dark walk back from town, only about 800 mtrs and only one street light. Wouldn't like to do it if it was raining.

Review 60:Has a very comfortable feel to the home, would be great to spend time enjoying it just one more night.

Review 61:Would have preferred to stay on the upper level rather than downstairs as we had Room No. 11 which was very close to the Reception area and could be noisy. Would recommend the upper level for accommodation.

Review 62:Franklin Manor was beautiful and the hosts Chris and Craig were delightful and very helpful. The breakfasts were amazing and presented beautifully. It is a stunning old House and situated in a very quiet location.

Review 63:Loved everything!

Review 64:The beautiful restored building, furnishings, friendly management, brilliant garden setting, fabulous breakfast with garden views, easy accessability (walk or drive) to gorgeous Strahan village and all its harbour attractions.

Review 65:Every other bed and breakfast had offered us a cooked breakfast, homemade jams and afternoon tea. This was the most expensive B&B during our trip but these little things were lacking.

Review 66:There was nothing to not like.

Review 67:Great old home welcome feel lovely fire place and the rooms were beautifully decorated with great views of the river. The hosts were very professional and friendly nothing was too much trouble.

Review 68:Located within walking distance to the main hub of Strahan this place was a lovely surprise - absolutely beautiful and the hosts were very friendly and helpful - would thoroughly recommend a stay at Franklin Manor!

Review 69:Nothing

Review 70:From the moment we walked in the door, we felt very welcomed in this beautiful property. The room was large, clean, warm and Christine added the extra touch of home made biscuits. There are large lounge areas which we took advantage of for a quiet wine and cheese plate after a day out on the Gordon River cruise. Truly lovely experience all around in Strahan

Review 71:felt the room was a little too expensive for the standard. Breakfast could have been better.

Review 72:Central position in Strahan. Lovely Gardens. Friendly hosts

Review 73:Breakfast was very basic for continental. Parking is limited.

Review 74:Nice boutique hotel, comfortable and suitable for short stay visit. Managers were helpful and arranged dinner booking etc.

Review 75:The only minor thing was the wifi didn't work in our room but we could sit in the common areas and use it no biggie!

Review 76:Very friendly and welcoming caretakers; will help you wherever they can and love a good chat! The house is just beautiful and well kept. Our room was clean and cosy. Plenty of common areas to relax in and beautiful gardens. Very central to everything you need. Breakfast is beautiful and Christine will cook you up the best hot breakfast you have ever had!

Review 77:We thought this place was a little expensive. Inclusive breakfast was cereal and fresh fruit, toast and tea/coffee. Full cooked breakfast which I would expect in a B & B would make this place expensivee

Review 78:Nice comfortable historic house. Plenty of lounging space

Review 79:smallish bed for a couple room and toilet a bit small no wifi in the room, only in lobby

Review 80:The style of the hotel The location of the hotel The wine bar

Review 81:This place is not a four star standard. Obviously dirty towels were left in the bathroom after cleaning. The owners were overly 'controlling' in every regard. They hovered over guests, monitoring every movement and portion size eg. tea pots were supplied for breakfast, but guests were not allowed a milk jug at their table. Breakfast food was meagre and portions were watched by the owners. They rushed to slip a plate under the teapot. Very old feather pillows were standard and the room was very small. The room fridge wobbled in a bottomless cupboard, barely balancing and tipping on a tiny edge when opened.

Review 82:The location was very pleasant and is a short walk to the harbour and a lovely walk to a waterfall.

Review 83:Only one window had a screen and so we could only open one on a very hot night. The price was extremely high and we had stayed in better accommodation for $70 a night less. I expected a better sized spa bath like we had at our other B&Bs and hotels.

Review 84:Beautiful home. Great location -very peaceful.Lovely room with fridge and bar downstairs was good but wine by the glass or port would have been nice.

Review 85:The house was very gorgeous, the hosts were very friendly and even provided home made biscuits. Breakfast was delicious and location was walking distance to everything.

Review 86:Had a great stay at Franklin Manor.Christine and Craig were great hosts and went out of their way to ensure our stay was comfortable. Will definitely go back if we are in Strahan again. Highly recommended.

Review 87:Nothing to dislike - gardens and vistas were fabulous as were the gorgeous rooms in this 'home'.

Review 88:Had a fabulous stay made special by the warmth and attention to detail by owners Christine and Craig. Highly recommend Franklin Manor if you want to take a cruise along Macquarie Harbour and the Gordon river.

Review 89:Over priced, spa bath not a spa bath, bed 2 singles pushed together, couldn't access plug points, cracked sink bowl, old leaking shower head, uncomfortable thread bare chairs, small & broken fridge & out of date appliances no test certificate on them

Review 90:Difficult to manoeuvre suitcases upstairs, but this was a minor issue.

Review 91:The bed was comfortable. The owners were accommodating, knowledgeable and helpful. The grounds were beautiful. Short stroll to the townsite. Breakfast was lovely and the dining room exhumed a times gone by ambience. Enjoy, and will be back again.

Review 92:Beautifully restored 1880 house. Lovely feel to it. Spotless. Comfortable bed. Perfect location. Short walk to harbour, eating places, Hogarth Falls etc. Staff friendly and helpful.

Review 93:Nothing to dislike, happy to recommend :-)

Review 94:Lovely warm and friendly welcome from hosts Christine and Craig, with lots of information on their historic peaceful property and surrounding area. Location a very easy 10 mins walk into town, with amble parking onsite. Room was very clean, comfortable and well set out, and free WIFI with an excellent signal throughout the property. Also two communal lounge areas available. Good continental breakfast included, or cooked offered at small charge.

Review 95:The hosts were most helpful. The property is beautiful and our room was just right. Breakfast was good and dining room was well set up. Property well positioned for everything.

Review 96:We really loved staying at this charming establishment. Our room was comfortable and very pleasant. Our hosts were warm and friendly. Franklin Manor is located in a beautiful spot in a very pretty town. Would definitely stay again.

Review 97:Nothing except price of 200 dollar p night is that of a full service hotel not a BB

Review 98:Owners send us a warning by mail in advance about limited dinner options on arrival date 25 dec, very thoughtfull Service and attitude owners wonderfull

Review 99:Beautifully restored property on the edge of town. Within walking distance of the lovely Hogarth Falls and harbourside walks, this was the perfect base for our trip with World Heritage Cruises. The room was comfortable and well-appointed and the continental buffet breakfast was delicious! We would love to come back and stay longer.

Review 100:The hosts were very hospitable and welcoming. Breakfast was very good, the open fire in the reception area was very much appreciated and the level of service was excellent.

Review 101:The Franklin Manor is run by a lovely couple with Cristine being the lovely hostess who greets you and gives you a tour of the Manor. The rooms were comfortable, large with en-suite. The cozy atmosphere was enhanced with a great breakfast home cooked in the morning.

Review 102:nothing

Review 103:our room was very well appointed and comfortable with a lovely view overlooking a gorgeous garden. the new owners have gone to great lengths to making the Manor very homely. they were extremely helpful and welcoming. the Continental Breakfast was the best ever. the Manor is a short, easy stroll out of town

Review 104:Great place to stay and our hosts Christine and Craig were absolutly fantastic!! Nothing was too much trouble. Do yourself a favour and stay 2 nights thou as there is so much to do in Strahan.

Review 105:Unfortunately. It doesn't have a restaurant for lunch or dinner and the nearest one closed down. So it's a 20 min walk or drive which is fine unless you want to have a quiet night in...

Review 106:The history and Christine (owner) was just amazing. Went Above and beyond it was like a b n b but with a hotel style facility. Highly recommend purely because of her hospitality.

Review 107:We found the staff very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere they had created in this beautiful old house was warm and welcoming. A great place to stay.

Review 108:A little tight on parking, but overflow area is provided and is close by.

Review 109:Ambience; friendly, professional owners. Comfort galore. Outstanding in nearly every respect.

Review 110:Too noisy. Everything can be heard from the adjacent room. Also other guests using the foyer lounge room were noisy until 10:30 due to the proximity to my room. Not ideal for an early morning start.

Review 111:Service and location.

Review 112:Franklin Manor was beautifully appointed, comfortable and clean. The hosts were welcoming and helpful on details like where to go for dinner and getting me pillows without feathers (I have an allergy), the location was peaceful and quiet.

Review 113:Sad there was an extra charge for a cooked breakfast. I understand that food costs money, but many folk don't want much for breakfast and a mini cooked b'fast could be offered within the price paid!

Review 114:The attitude and helpfulness of all those running the bed and breakfast.

Review 115:Location is perfect, accommodation wonderfully kept with character and comfort. Wonderful hosts made our stay better than we could of imagined, highly recommend Franklin Manor.

Review 116:Magnificent Setting. Continental breakfast was excellent and the owners were very hospitable.
