Reviews for Château St. Gerlach

Review 1:If traveling with small children, the breakfast is an expensive option--but there is a market nearby where we bought food for the mornings and comfortably ate in our rooms' kitchen.

Review 2:The staff was incredibly friendly; the rooms were perfect for our family of five (2 room suite); and the location can't be beat!

Review 3:Dirty floor around pool mud unmopped. Expensive breakfast buffet (26.50 euro)food slightly above average.

Review 4:Great room clean exactly as advertised excellent friendly staff attentive to guest's needs.

Review 5:My room was recently renewed and because of that the smell of the painting was too strong. Had to let the windows open to be able to be inside the room. For the very good quality of the hotel and the price of the night,I think that this could be avoided.

Review 6:The place is very beautiful and the employees are very kind and receptive.

Review 7:Breakfast is overpriced, however it is really good. If you go to the hotel it is worth taking it

Review 8:Great place to stay and disconnect. Great facilities. The place is one of the most beautiful places we have seen in the Netherlands.

Review 9:Château St. Gerlach is exceptional place to relax and enjoy high quality culinary in the house restaurant. All aspects of the stay: hotel staff, accommodation, SPA, restaurants, location are contributing to the perfect mix. Compliments only!

Review 10:The bistro's service staff was clearly insufficient, considering the amount of customers. We had to wait a long time to order and to pay, and the waiter (politely) refused to warm up our baby's meal, due to the hurry. However, excepting this incident, the hotel staff was kind.

Review 11:Beautiful hotel, garden and surrounding area. The 2-room apartment was enormous and very comfortable.

Review 12:There is nothing to dislike but there are à few points that can be further improved: 1) more towel hooks/racks in the bathroom 2) better working trash cans in the room (the one in the living area is an eye sore) 3) the big bed made of 2 1-person mattresses put together was really comfortable but the space between the mattresses was gaping. We were worried that our baby would fall or get trapped in this gape whenever she played on the bed and took day naps on it. 4) a small lift for bringing luggages & other bulky personal effects to the 2nd floor would be really handy/useful

Review 13:The hotel/restaurant and its compound are beautiful. We loved the attention they give to detail. We loved how they have preserved the old But still manage to be current with facilities. It is a luxury hotel but the atmosphere was very relaxed, not stiff nor pretentious, and the staff were very efficient and welcoming. We also loved how baby/child-friendly they are.

Review 14:The white plastic fans. Metel 1940s style would have looked better. Also, they should know which room is calling room service. We should'nt have to tell them the room number.

Review 15:The food was outstanding but the Breakfast was pricey. You should also have a continatel Breakfast.

Review 16:Great location, bedroom and bathroom really dated. Shower has very little waterpressure. If it was not for the location, the hotel would be completely overrated. We booked a junior suite, which turned out to be a bedroom. W could not understand why they insisted calling this a suite! Poor!!

Review 17:Location

Review 18:Nothing special - not really relais & chateau like. Staff is nice but a little stressed at all times. Feels like you are more a bother. While nice for old people, we as a young family did not seem too welcome (actually got asked to leave the swimming pool because daughter was enjoying herself too much). We will not return.

Review 19:Very nice surroundings, once in the grounds of the castle.

Review 20:As I asked for a baby bed a chair could have been added or asked if required.

Review 21:The price of the breakfast is quite high, although the quality was excellent

Review 22:Nothing

Review 23:It was exactly the hotel we were looking for....quiet, relaxed, nice food. We stayed in the apartment suits, very spacious for two with a nice balcony at west. also very thoughtful of the hotel to give us a nice recipe book because of our pregnancy! The swimming pool is a big plus. We will come back again!

Review 24:As I said before: breakfast is too expensive. We love it (quality is excellent), but not worth almost €30 p/p!

Review 25:We use this hotel every year we visit Valkenburg. Great location, service and atmosphere.

Review 26:The estate. It has a lot of "grandeur" and is a realy really beaytifull place. Also the appartment rooms were very big. Beds were wonderful. Bathrooms were roomy. Shuttle service top of the line

Review 27:I have visited quite a few chateaux's and by far Chateau st gerlach was by far the most beautiful and relaxing. The decor was so perfect with a light mix of modern. So many other places over do it but st gurlach accomplished the light mix perfectly without infringing on the beautiful age of the buildings. The church is exquisite. The kids loved the pool. I will definitely be back for a longer stay!!

Review 28:Compared to other kitchens in the group (e.g. Kruisheren in Maastricht), the kitchen here is not meeting the expectations from a value for money perspective (second visit confirmed first impression).

Review 29:Great location, stylish comfortable rooms, nice spa/bath, fresh air! Nice staff. Very relaxing.

Review 30:The hotel room was seriously overpriced, for that much money we expected a whole lot more than a standard and fairly ugly room. Breakfast was very good, but also very expensive (30 eur pp!).

Review 31:The food in the restaurant and the bistro was great! Wellness facilities were excellent. Very friendly staff. Beautiful surroundings.

Review 32:Bistro food was not what we expected: rather averrage, though the staff was very friendly. We payed a lot for what we got. Expensive breakfast: 29.50 euro pp...

Review 33:the chateau is beautiful situated and a real value for 'Relais et Chateaux'.

Review 34:The property lack air conditioning. We stayed during July...it was hot.

Review 35:This property was beautiful. The staff was at a five star level. The grounds were fun to explore. The room service was great.

Review 36:Spa facilities not up to standard-not worth the expense -didn't even have a proper manicure table

Review 37:Beautiful setting and grounds Good food but limited choices

Review 38:The old fashioned Air Conditioner in the Room was like having a Washing machine next to you all night. It was a warm evening, and the room needed A/C, but we couldn`t get a decent night`s sleep for the noise. For the price we had to pay for the room, it was totally unacceptable

Review 39:Lovely Location, excellent food in the Bistro and equally excellent service

Review 40:We were celebrating a special occasion and the staff were very accommodating and the hotel provided a few extra items in the room

Review 41:The room was located near lift shaft creating noise in the room. I commented this to the staff but no notice was taken - disappointing really.

Review 42:The location, the outdoors, the bistro, the pool and spa.

Review 43:The place is ancient and of superb quality. guests are extremele well taken care of.

Review 44:A beautiful fairytale-like location.

Review 45:The food was only average but over priced. Breakfast ordinary. Massage ok.

Review 46:The grounds were beautiful

Review 47:Everything

Review 48:it was all great very friendly staff excellent breakfast accommodation a high quality loved the pool area

Review 49:Nice and welcoming staff... the room was very nice.

Review 50:The swimming pool was child friendly.

Review 51:The garden, walking around neighbour, atmosphere.

Review 52:nothing

Review 53:everything

Review 54:Breakfast at €25 pp is ridiculous. But as a self catering apartment this is no problem.

Review 55:The grounds and tranquility.

Review 56:We have been staying here several time and keep coming back. It is a special place with special people!

Review 57:Everything 'extra' means (a lot of) extra money: bikes", breakfast etc.

Review 58:Facility and surroundings

Review 59:The food is good but for how you pay you aspect more

Review 60:Everything is superb

Review 61:The room where we were was very noisy because of people walking in the building and taking the steps.

Review 62:The location, the food, the service

Review 63:Nothing bad at all

Review 64:Buildings staff surroundings all amazibg

Review 65:Service in bistro slow..a bit more child friendly setup like a play area would make this location/stay fantastic.

Review 66:We keep going back to this hotel every winter and love it more every time. Highly recommended!

Review 67:No wifi in room

Review 68:Cleanliness, luxury

Review 69:Little availability of restaurant and bistro.

Review 70:Wellness area

Review 71:Superb location, friendly and helpful staff. Excellent restaurant and spa!

Review 72:Everything is perfect

Review 73:Hotel room is a bit pricey!!!!

Review 74:Superb location, friendly and helpful staff. Excellent restaurant!

Review 75:Very friendly staff. Great dining experience.

Review 76:Unique and tranquil place, great staff

Review 77:Everything is wonderful

Review 78:The breakfast is too expensive. 29,5 euro/pers/ day. In the restaurant you can eat only with reservation.

Review 79:The location is fabulous.

Review 80:Room could have been larger and separate shower room.

Review 81:Staff.Grounds.Food.

Review 82:Children allowed in the formal dining room. The ambience can be ruined by screaming kids. A seperate pool for children away from the spa should be provided.

Review 83:The food at the Bistro was excellent. Beautifull, quiet setting. Quiet, clean and comfortable apartment.

Review 84:The price to pay for the breakfast.

Review 85:The location is excellent and so is the staff. Large room and good views from the windows. Breakfast in the garden.

Review 86:The WiFi connection is horrible and terrible!! We need to have connection for our business issues, this was to say the least "almost impossible"! The cost for breakfast is exorbitant! The restaurant too expensive for the service received!

Review 87:The area, the setting, the closeness to Maastricht in a quiet ambiente is perfect! It is not every day that you are surprised with the presence from The Rolling Stones who stayed there as well during Pinkpop!

Review 88:Though the room was outstanding, I did not expect the room to be on the "dark". Otherwise perfect.

Review 89:The attention to details. It was my partner's birthday and the small details counted. Welcome perfect as well the communications to have a great get-away. Definitely a place to come back to.

Review 90:I visited with my elderly parents and my father can't walk very well and needs a lot of help, which was all provided we wouldn't have been able to enjoy it without having been looked after so well!

Review 91:Getting billed for using shaving gel. I would expect it to be complimentary. €3,50 on a €200 bill a day just looks silly.

Review 92:The location was beautiful, the free shuttle service to Maastricht was great as well

Review 93:The breakfast, although very good, is overpriced,& there should be more personal attention & help from the Staff.

Review 94:Almost everything was first class.

Review 95:The place is amazing and we spent a wonderful night there. Cozy little spa, nice restaurants and great service. Very attentive, we received a complimentary bottle of cremant given the occasion of our stay. Absolutely recommendable for a romantic get a way!

Review 96:very poor wi-fi connection (one may take it as an opportunity also :-))

Review 97:location facilities children activities options lanscape setting food excellent service & friendliness all

Review 98:Can't think of anything!

Review 99:The rooms have cosy and authentic character as have the other area's, restaurants, bar. Breakfast is great also. A great place!

Review 100:The restaurant and bistro are a little expensive, but worth a visit. Being in an appartment with self catering facilities, and a good supply of local restaurants this is not an issue.

Review 101:A perfect location to relax and unwind. The facilities are unimpeachable. Will certainly return, this is a perfect retreat.

Review 102:WiFi was not strong.

Review 103:The gardens and the buildings were very impressive especially combined with the nice weather. The double suite was very helpful while taking care of our baby. The staff were very friendly and also professional. Had a very nice dinner at the restaurant with its unique atmosphere and menu.

Review 104:On check in we had an issue that for some reason they did not know we had two small children, this meant an additional charge and we had to have a sofa bed prepared. Breakfast very expensive extra.

Review 105:Dinner in the bistro was great, very good service. The room itself was wonderful, large, well equiped with a nice view.

Review 106:Buffet breakfast was too expensive.

Review 107:The food at the bistro! Excellent French-style food. The pool temperature was very comfortable and the saunas were great.

Review 108:Essentially, this hotel does not deserve any complaints, however considering of the high price, there are some things that could have been better. The beds were not really comfortable and the room was very warm, despite it being very cold outside. Breakfast is very expensive but not really a surprise. Not enough lockers in the spa and not enough beds to relax on and that was in a quiet weekend so not sure what it would be like when it is really busy.

Review 109:Lovely setting, beautiful hotel. Would recommend going for a walk around. Really helpful staff who helped with all our requests. I would love to return to this hotel as I felt that the scenery alone was worth it.

Review 110:The parking distance to the rooms, which made it uneasy to carry all luggage.

Review 111:The overall experience; we live in Dubai and really are used to luxury hotels, but this one is the best I have ever visited in the Netherlands

Review 112:Decor in apartment was quite dated, although bed was comfortable. Lighting in all areas was very poor....had a dim and gloomy feel.

Review 113:Grounds of property were lovely. Hike in surrounding area was excellent. Free shuttle into Maasterich was great. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 114:The restaurant was elegant and a couple of dishes were genuinely gourmet but in general the food was fussy and expensive.

Review 115:The setting is gorgeous and the castle is quietly elegant. Our Senior suite with terrace was well worth the extra money.

Review 116:Room above very noisy. Our room adjacent to car park which was very busy.

Review 117:The staff were excellent. The ladies serving at breakfast were the best we encountered on a three week holiday. Helpful and smiley a great start to a day. The buffet was lovely. Terrace made great difference to room which was comfortable.

Review 118:They were not able to find our booking despite the reference booking noand name of guest. The staff were not very customer-friendly at thebeginning but later changed their attitudes. They should be moreaccustomed to customers from non-European countries.

Review 119:The shuttle bus staff who kindly took us to Maastricht for the concert. He was very helpful in explaining things and roads in town.

Review 120:Everything was perfect as usual... we were there on a Monday afternoon and as the hotel was not full booked we enjoyed the spa/pool just for the two of us, a 20mtrs private pool. Perfect relaxation. We wen to the casino in the evening where I won back the price of the room and the dinner... the hotel is nice and cheap :)

Review 121:Shower broke. Found some dust on lamp shade.

Review 122:Wonderful chateau hotel & very friendly services. Originally they put us in a dark depressing 'Senior Suite' without garden terrace, which was totally different image from booking site. But after pointing that out, they straight away moved us to an apartment room with terrace which had a great view of green garden without supplement. All staff are friendly, helpful and flexible. Loved free champaign at breakfast. Good quality shampoo & conditioner in bathroom. The restaurant (not bistro) was fantastic & it deserves a Michelin star.

Review 123:St. Gerlach is a fantastic Hotel in a beautiful and spectacular setting. There is a beautiful, restored church next to the Hotel that you can visit. Also excellent for weddings. Beautiful gardens and terrasses .We were with a group of friends for 3 days. everything was perfectly organized. The service was excellent. Fantastic breakfast and dinner. There is a nice Bar.The Bistro is very cozy and there is a different menu every day. We did not try the other restaurant since it was fully booked. We had an apartment that was very spacious and well equipped. We certainly will come back.

Review 124:The breakfast is overrated, the sauna and the hamam are a little bit small and you should walk outdoors in order to go from the spa to your room which i find uncomfortable

Review 125:Beautiful landscape, very friendly environment in general, the swimming pool is perfect and you can enjoy a fantastic, really relaxing massage

Review 126:No real value for money in the restaurant. Some of the dishes were outrageously priced given the portion size and sometimes also the quality. The fois gras dish really just did not taste good. Also I found the spa a bit overrated and the massage we chose was too expensive and it felt more like a bit of skin rubbing, no real muscle treatment.

Review 127:The feeling of luxury and beautiful setting.
