Reviews for Dar Echchaouen
Review 1:The hot water supply is unstable. And the bathroom is sugggested to add some hooks for clothes hanging. The room is too dark, some lightings should be added in the sitting room.
Review 2:The staff are helpful and nice. The room is beautifully decorated and spacious. The garden is beautiful and comfortable.
Review 3:No wifi in the rooms. Expect lots of stairs.
Review 4:Beautiful Dar! Roses, oranges and lemon trees everywhere. Amazing view of the city from the Dar. About 15min walk up n down slopes n steps to the busy medina. Not for felinophobias.
Review 5:no Wifi in the room - only at reception, slow breakfast service, no beer available in the hotel.
Review 6:very friendly staff, nice pool (but cold). fantastic view out of the appartment onto the Medina of Chefchaouen
Review 7:Beautifully architected private chalet-style (with entirely Moroccan decor) buildings with a pool overlooking the town, set against the backdrop of the mountains to the east side of town. Not far to the Medina eastern entrance, this place is a gem. And nice food as well.
Review 8:This hotel is beautiful - the grounds are spectacular and the swimming pool is a bonus! The bed was huge and very comfortable. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were friendly without being over-bearing. It was a bit outside of town but it was nice to have your own little oasis to relax in. Would recommend to anyone!
Review 9:It's a little bit bigger hotel than we usually book. They had a few tour groups arrived so the staff was busy.
Review 10:Great location for strolling/exploring The town. Comfortable beds, nice quality bedding. Just had a relaxed atmosphere to it.
Review 11:A great combination of a modern yet traditional Moroccan hotel. Staff were really helpful and welcoming. The view from the swimming pool is beautiful. The shower in the bathroom was luxurious. The location is ideal as if offers a great view but is only a 5 minute walk to the centre.
Review 12:This hotel was a little sanctuary. We loved every minute of it. The staff were gentle, kind and very helpful. Stunning rooms and beautiful views of chefchaouen. One of my favourite places in the world!
Review 13:There was not always space around the pool as staff were using it. Other guests were put off too. Some staff were not very efficient nor friendly.
Review 14:Beautiful location. One owner is charming, friendly and extremely hard working and he really makes a difference.
Review 15:The room was a little outdated and not as clean as I would have liked it.
Review 16:The dinner and breakfast were awesome! The location was great just be prepared to carry your luggage up the hill. Wonderful place overall!
Review 17:Pool could've been a bit cleaner in regards to bugs in the water, but other than that it was great
Review 18:Clean hotel with a great staff and the pool and breakfast was a plus
Review 19:Poor wifi.
Review 20:Great location: outside the medina (so peaceful) but close by and with a wonderful view over it. Swimming pool a blessing. Breakfast in the garden a delight and i was charmed by the decor throughout.
Review 21:We liked everything. This is the type of place you don't want to leave. It was the best part of our trip. The views are unmatched. Reason enough to go to Chefchoan.
Review 22:Everything - Staff very obliging, local and natural. Traditional, quiet setting just outside Medina. It's a little oasis with a beautiful pool area overlooking the town. Food is excellent.
Review 23:The location, just across from the medina, was perfect. The property is beautifully maintained and rooms were decorated with traditional Moroccan art and fabric. If we had known how lovely this place was we would have stayed longer. Definitely stay at least 3 nights!
Review 24:Some of the staff didn't speak English well.
Review 25:Nice breakfast for normal eaters, not much for gluten-free but at least they offered eggs. Nice location, beautiful building, lovely pool area and great view. It was nice to have a restaurant in the hotel with a changing menu as food options in town weren't great. We enjoyed the calmness and location of the hotel as it is outside of the town centre and away from the unfriendly people of Chefchaouen.
Review 26:Poor service. My least favourite place for service.
Review 27:We had the 2 bedroom villa and it was super comfy. The grounds are gorgeous and well maintained. The room was super clean.
Review 28:I love this hotel. It is one of my favourite places to stay with the awesome view of the Chefchauoen medina over the river. The pool is a delight in the heat and very relaxing. The staff are friendly and the food good. It is a short distance to the medina but is actually quite nice not being in the Medina itself and having that lovely spacious feel and view. No alcohol but that probably keeps it reasonably priced. High;ly recommend.
Review 29:Nothing I really disliked. Wifi connection was only available in the reception and restaurant area.
Review 30:Hotel is situated only 5 minutes walking distance from medina, but still you have a fabulous view overlooking the whole city. Swimming pool is nice.
Review 31:That cats roam around in the restaurants. For someone how does not like cats, it's difficult to relax when eating knowing that a cat is likely to brush past you at any minute.
Review 32:The rooms were really comfortable the staff very helpful and the rooms were big.
Review 33:Breakfast could've used more variety but it's nothing to complain about. Also it's not facilitated for handicaps or, in my case, a mother with back pain. They offered a room close to the reception though.
Review 34:The theme of the hotel matches the blue theme of the city, and the rooms are wide and has a trace, couldn't use the swimming pool for sure due to the weather, but I bet it will be amazing in summer as one can actually see the old Medina while in there. The whole place was clean and bathroom hygiene was excellent. Recommended ✅
Review 35:Lovely hotel with very nice staff who were always ready to help out with trip planning and other advice. Location is not in the center of town, but a bit outside, providing excellent views of the blue city and a 10min walk into the center. Rooms were comfortable and food was excellent.
Review 36:- staff seemed unengaged, didn't go out of the way to be helpful - very noisy in the rooms
Review 37:- decor of rooms - landscaping of grounds - great breakfast - better than average wi-fi for Moroccan hotels - location, short walk into centre of the town
Review 38:The staff some of them are not that helpful.
Review 39:Hotel and rooms design make you feel like you are dreaming. You are in a very old and lovely place ever. Close to the old city and the lovely blue buildings.
Review 40:It rained the ENTIRE time we were there keeping us from our hiking intentions. Check the weather, not a fun place in the rain.
Review 41:Dar Echchaouen is a great little hotel just outside the city walls in Chefchaouen. We travelled for two weeks throughout Morocco and while Chefchaouen is one of our favorite cities, the hotel options are limited there. I cannot compare other Chefchaouen specific hotels, but Dar Echchaouen was subpar to the other places we stayed in larger cities in Morocco -- but I think weather is clouding my review. STILL, the place is well run, cozy and the staff is so friendly. Breakfast was simple but always generous. I would definitely stay there again -- this time I would go in a warmer and dryer time of year, though to enjoy their grounds and facilities.
Review 42:Nothing
Review 43:When we walked in we felt we were in wonderland. The garden was beautifully lit with lots of lanterns and candles,. Wonderful details everywhere. Incredible view. Staff were friendly and helpful, espcially Jamel, the one who greeted us on arrival, and one of the owners. Spacious accommodation, Good price, Good simple food. Delicious breakfast. I highly recommand it and will definitely visit Chefchaouene again just to stay there.
Review 44:Internet was a bit patchy in rooms. Only a problem one night when I was trying to do some urgent work online.
Review 45:Friendly, helpful staff and wonderful building and decoration, plus immaculate gardens around. Lovely to come home to the candles lighting up the path. Excellent location with great views of the beautiful blue old town tumbling down the hill, and only 5 minutes walk into the medina. Parking is available, great breakfasts. Our room was a suite - huge & loved having a fridge. We advise that if you plan a trip to God's bridge, ask the staff to help you find a guide - we drove there and walked but could not find it due to multiple paths & lack of signposting
Review 46:Cannot say enough great things. Book it and get there! The staff, great...the hotel, great...the breakfast and coffee, great - the experience of all combined including the beautiful Chefchaoeoun, priceless. You guys and the Dar Echchaouen made our trip to Morocco, the best. Thank you. Gary
Review 47:The only bad thing I can say is that the bed was too hard, but honestly this is the best place we have stayed.
Review 48:So much character, peaceful location, friendly service.
Review 49:The pool was a little green with no pump working, you could not really swim in it, but it was nice to sit around
Review 50:There was a very relaxed atmosphere, comfortable bed and lovely surroundings, bathroom was spacious and clean, and the breakfast was sufficient being a European style, the grounds are well kept.
Review 51:I loved everything!
Review 52:What a gorgeous hotel in a stunning setting! The entire hotel and grounds were a photographer's delight. The room was beautiful and the bed comfortable. Very friendly staff...in particular Nabil and Abdul, who entertained us and made our stay memorable. Would not hesitate to recommend!!
Review 53:Nothing to report
Review 54:Very relaxing location Really good breakfast with delicious homemade bread (msemen harcha batboot) Swimming pool sufficient for kids Close to ras el ma Walking distance from the medina Wonderful view on the medina
Review 55:nigthtime noise from the kitchen area 1 nigth quit late, although after telling them it was better next nigths. and dogs barking in the pool area at nigth was not so great. we were not so keen on the cats around dinner/breakfast tables
Review 56:very friendly staff, supernice(they deserve) very willing to please and happy faces. in all, a great vieuw of the village, and mountains and sunset. rooms very attractive, comfy beds and clean, nicely lit. hotel sits on a nice peacfull road, very easy walking into the village from the hotel, much easier then driving there, saves parking.
Review 57:The description says wifi in all public areas, but it didn't workaround the pool or any of the lounge areas. Our room was reasonablyclose to the reception, but it still barely worked. Breakfast was good, but we ate dinner there too and the food was the worst we had inMorocco. Watery, tasteless chicken tagine and my 'calamari'tagine turned out to be shrimp, and not very exciting at that. Theyplayed loud, obnoxious music at the pool during the days.
Review 58:Nice view, great pool (in the morning before they turn on the music),super friendly staff, nicely decorated room.
Review 59:They don't serve wine until 8pm. Also, we were staying at the hotel at the same time as a tour group, and the group was super loud during breakfast. Hardly a reason to avoid the hotel, I just thought I'd throw it in here. :)
Review 60:Parking was easy and the hotel is a quick walk into the medina. I'd recommend staying here over any of the medina locations anyday. The pool is AMAZING especially on a hot day, and the views from this place can't be beat.
Review 61:To be honest it was probably easier to dine down in the medina in the main square and that gave more choices too (of course). That's not really a complaint. No WiFi in the rooms could be a minor inconvenience (works fine in the comfy little room off the reception area).
Review 62:After travelling through the summer heat in Morocco the pool was very welcome. This is a great spot with views over the town but away from most of the hustle and bustle. The medina and the casbah are just a short walk down the hill and the map is easy to follow. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 63:Amazing place, beautiful town. Don't miss the lovely hand painted furniture directly across from the hotel entrance. I bought a small table and mirror and couldn't be more pleased.
Review 64:Honestly, while we were swimming in the pool there was a man in the bushes watching us and... It was pretty uncomfortable. I'd say as a woman or a group of women, be prepared for a lot of cat calls and other things...
Review 65:The food at the hotel was AMAZING. So so so good, it's an incredibly beautiful place.
Review 66:Exact same breakfast every single day. We stayed here 3 days and was going crazy by the last day! Not very good value considering the cost
Review 67:Loved that it was on the outskirts of the town. Beautiful big rooms.
Review 68:We liked everything.
Review 69:Perfect location, 100 m from entrance to Medina, spacious rooms, free parking nearby, good swimming pool, yard with many wonderful flowers.
Review 70:We asked for a first aid kit but the hotel did not have any. Breakfast was the same all throughout our stay which is we think is very common anywhere in Morocco. We would appreciate if they will also serve fruits. The cats in the dining area were also a bit disturbing.
Review 71:The hotel was lovely! The hotel garden and as well as the view of the whole medina was amazing! It also has a very good location- it's outside the medina but easily accessible by foot. Food was also good although a bit more expensive than the ones you will find in the medina. Make sure you book the suite for a better experience. We would definitely come back!
Review 72:Nice rooms, location, service and breakfast.
Review 73:toilet acceptable, but not the best
Review 74:Location and night view overlooking the medina
Review 75:Ras

Review 82:the breakfast was very simple
Review 83:the pool was amazing!
Review 84:A wellkept and pretty riad. Kids loved the pool. Chefchaouen a lovely spot.
Review 85:Cleaning of the rooms could be better
Review 86:The food and friendly service
Review 87:Hotel facilities & very poor breakfast & food not nice
Review 88:The hotel view is amazing and the location is more than amazing. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and neat.
Review 89:Location, design, swimming pool, garden everything.
Review 90:Beautiful place to relax and enjoy the mountains clean air.
Review 91:Spacious rooms and the only place we stayed that we found English speaking television
Review 92:The hotel is in a great location the medina is walking distance away the hotel was beautiful and the views were amazing.
Review 93:Some sewer smells in all bathrooms - not overwhelming but noticeable. Slow service fir any requests.
Review 94:Beautiful location/views. Boring food.
Review 95:The shower could have been better
Review 96:Very good hotel. Good location, super helpful staffs.
Review 97:breakfast (cold tea and coffee) noises
Review 98:location
Review 99:Nothing.
Review 100:All.
Review 101:Interiors, garden at night, room very spacious, free upgrade - thank you! Restaurant food, pool, helpfulness, everything really.
Review 102:Dogs and roosters at night time
Review 103:Pool Great restaurant
Review 104:no wifi in room
Review 105:the pool is excellent with the view of chefchaouen staffs are friendly and helpful
Review 106:Staff were rude and unwelcoming.
Review 107:Great location and place to stay.
Review 108:Thy way to hotel takes to long
Review 109:Nice view and location
Review 110:I only stayed one night :(
Review 111:Great location and city. This beats a beach vacation anytime. the hotel overlooks the whole town and the it's the most beautiful view. Be sure to get back to the hotel about an hour before sunset so you can witness it (the mountains will be in the way at sunset). Great traditional Moroccan hotel. I've spent the first half hour just taking pictures of the rooms :)
Review 112:The bathroom! Weird odor. The shower door wouldn't open because it couldn't get past the toilet? It was really really weird. Like had no one ever showered there? I mean it looked beautiful, but wasn't functional and just overall a disappoint to such a wonderful hotel.
Review 113:Oh my goodness this hotel was beautiful. Not only are you looking over the mountains enjoying the view of the gorgeous city, but the hotel itself is a sight to see. The yard is decorated to the T with flowers draping every corner. The room again was its own sight to see. Loved every aspect.
Review 114:Nothing at all!!!!
Review 115:Rating my stay at Dar chaoun as excellent, very nice place the staff and owner were really nice too. Everything in there was magical, the view, pool and freedom to enjoy ourselves. I will highly recommend this place to my contacts and I will return there for a longer period.
Review 116:The etiquette of the staff could be greatly improved. Several of them were quite rude. My wife often felt ogled and we were also lectured on how fortunate we are being from a country of wealth. The experience with the staff was shocking!
Review 117:The view and the room were spectacular!
Review 118:Sometimes the staff were a little rude. The pool was a little cloudy.
Review 119:One of the few places in Morocco that we found with a pool although it was slightly too early in the season to use it (april). The water was also quite cloudy, which was unappealing. The location is ideal, being removed enough from the centre.of chefchaouen to be relaxing but within easy access for a stroll in the afternoon or evening. Also very close to the attractive waterfalls. A free upgrade to a suite was also very welcome. The staff weren't the warmest that we encountered but were helpful when we had questions. Breakfast was excellent and the guarded parking was very reassuring with a rental car.
Review 120:The views of Chefchaouen from Dar Echchaouen are stunning! The property was stunning and our room very pleasant! Also a lovely breakfast spread. Would recommend for friends looking for resort/oasis in Chefchaouen and to families.
Review 121:I have to admit that staff is not the nicest we've met in Morocco, but maybe they just had a bad day.
Review 122:The place has a lovely atmosphere, and it's nice and clean. The room we stayed in was comfortable and spacious.
Review 123:The interior of the hotel is very romantic, and i especially loved the common area incl. lobby and garden(with a good view towards the village). It would have been awesome if i came here by summer and swim in the pool. I perfectly satiafied with everything of this hotel =)
Review 124:Tissue paper hanger in toilet wasn't fixed on the wall, but simply placed on the wash basin. Tissue got all wet easily. I would say, however, it's just something minor, and was outweighted by the pros
Review 125:I was upgraded to a bungalow with private terrace overlooking the town -- the best spot to view sunset Perfect location -- away from the medina so very quiet at night, but close enough to all the interesting places with a 10-15 min walk on foot
Review 126:nothing. Would stay again, recommend to friends.
Review 127:My favorite hotel while staying in Morocco. Full of character. Rooms were very clean!! The housekeeping staff seemed to be working all the time, and it showed--the entire property was well maintained and spotless--even the pool deck area which was not being used during the time of our stay. The property is like a secluded compound, away from the hustle and bustle and very peaceful. Friendly and helpful staff that doesn't pester. Very charming rooms, lots of character throughout the entire hotel. Relaxing lounge areas. Good plumbing. Hotel arranged transport via grand taxi to Tangier for 600 dirham--worth it to avoid missing a flight with the slower bus--nice to have it worked out and not worry about prices for grand taxis.
