Reviews for Strahan Village
Review 1:Very dated and not good value for money however they have you trapped ... long way back to anywhere if you are unhappy. Bar area charging more than the price list and when questioned were unapologetic and no refund was offered let alone given !
Review 2:Short, although steep, walk to everything in the town
Review 3:The room was a little tired and drab but comfortable overall.
Review 4:Well located close to the main whalf. We stayed in one of the water front cottages which are probably the pick of the many options available. The seafood buffet restaurant was very good and the view over Strahan excellent.
Review 5:The room was a shoebox. When we booked the room titled "Waterfront Terrace" we were expecting something a little bigger. We were charged $219 for the night. The room was very poorly laid out. I had to sit on the toilet sideways as there was not enough leg room and the toilet was located behind the bathroom door and very inconvenient to get to. The room was located directly above the Village bakery. We heard banging and noise from 3am when the bakery staff started work and to make things worse, the smell from the bakery went straight into our room. We could not air it out and there was no air conditioning in the room, from 3am we smelt onions and this made the room really stuffy and impossible to sleep. My partner and I both woke up tired and cranky. The units above the village shops should not be available to the public. I would not have paid more than $100 for this room.
Review 6:The only thing that was nice about our room was the view and the location.
Review 7:With 3 single people requiring separate beds, the third bedroom was as small as a toilet with no door or window.
Review 8:Wonderful position of restaurant and outside bar.
Review 9:Think old Telly made the place look dated. Would love some history of the accommodation available in rooms so we could see the context of what has gone before with what is there now.
Review 10:Loved the vibe. Loved that rooms all different. But glad we were over Hamers. What a gorgeous view to observe each day.
Review 11:We decided to pay extra for this hotel for the rooms with sea views and balconies specifically to enjoy the sea view advertised, we walked into room 1156 to a view of the car park. I rang 5 days prior to our stay to ensure the children's room would be adjacent to ours as requested. Their room turned out to be the very end of the verandah in one building, ours the very end of the other building. Oddly, their room also seemed to have a door adjoining it to the next room. A simple request ignored. After questioning why we were paying for a sea view and did not get it, we did get a discount, but we should not have been put in the position of having to bring this up. It seemed to be a well known problem as one staff member made a joke about it. Perhaps it is time for management to be honest about the room and change the booking details and cost of the room to reflect this. I am sure we have not been the first disappointed guests. It does start the holiday on the wrong foot and will make me more cautious when booking rooms on line in future.
Review 12:The staff were, on the whole, friendly. The room was clean.
Review 13:Excellent location. We had an upstairs room with a large balcony looking over the harbour and it was great. The staff were attentive and the room was very clean and the spa bath was welcome after a long day of trekking and driving.
Review 14:Very tired and old looking not worth $340 for the night with nil breakfast. Very over priced. Television old box style. Woulkd never book there again and we travel regularly. Not a classy Heritage room at all. What happened to the beautiful story of Huon pine in this room? Nil to be found What a shame for Tasmanian tourist presentation and we are locals.
Review 15:View
Review 16:One of the rooms we booked was not air-conditioned and car parking right outside the window so it's not too pleasant to stay.
Review 17:Beautiful view and great seafood buffet dinner which only offers in Summer.
Review 18:No air conditioning stuffy warm room one small window for ventilation. Fairly tired buildings
Review 19:Beds great except 4th bed basically a cupboard with a bed in it bathroom good
Review 20:I liked the location, the restaurant and view. That the restaurant staff seemed to need more help but we're still very courteous efficient and professional. The buffet was excellent.
Review 21:Booking . Com has a picture on their website that MISLEADS people to believe that the hotel has water front rooms. Only 1/6 th of the hotel has absolute water views. Our room at the back overlooked a drain
Review 22:Photos looked better than actual accommodation. The Lyell wing is quite dated and needs a refurbishment.
Review 23:Location was great. Accomodation was clean and comfortable. Suited our needs as we were out most of the time. Guest of Strahan Village was entitled to 15% discount on Gordon River Cruises.
Review 24:Would have been good to have a microwave oven in the room and a better ventilation system as no airconditioning is available.
Review 25:Good location. Good bathroom products.
Review 26:The room was big but overall needs to be refurbished. Restaurant food was good however the service was below average.
Review 27:Good location and a spacious room
Review 28:Dirty Chair in room. Filthy inward opening French windows engrained with dirt on paintwork and filthy glass. String from elec blanket untucked from bed on arrival and each day -never fixed and a danger to trip over. Badly ripped bedspread unable to replace as all others in poor state. Dirty cloth left on bedside table after cleaning room. Bakery under room so 3 a.m. start as well as loud extractor fan. Music and noise from cafe patrons each day.Elec clock and blanket not plugged in and impossible to do so. No info. pack in room. No advise to guests that room would not be cleaned until all other roomsthat had been vacated were cleaned for new incoming guests. When issues raised defensive answers of short staff. No apology from management having made 2 polite complaints and left a list of problems as well as photo of dangerous and unsightly elec blanket tapes.
Review 29:Clean white fluffy towels Large room
Review 30:We asked for room with a view months before our visit. Did not get that as they were "fully booked". Could not believe that one.
Review 31:Pretty place well organised. Good sized room and good bathroom. Five minutes walk to good eating places.
Review 32:The restaurant is overprice for what is on offer. Rooms are basic nothing special or outstanding but could use a good clean around the window sills
Review 33:Comfortable bed good night sleep
Review 34:Not a bad experience but the rooms and exterior need renovation.
Review 35:Location is good but from the promo on your web page the impression is that all rooms will have an ocean view, which is not the case. Quoted price should offer the alternative of room with a view or not, to make it clear.
Review 36:u can park near to your room but not directly walk in. as we are on the ground level, it is actually a short flight of stairs to the level that takes us to the room, which means we have to be lifting the luggages. good if u have a car. else the hill top rooms are many flights of stairs to the reception. it does cost more but it maintained the standard.
Review 37:The restaurant with a great view is in the same block (on the hill) and there are games and books to borrow. The bed configuration has 1 double + 1 single which is perfect for us. The beds are comfy too. Has shower screen over the bath tub. close to the cruise centre. just a short walk n the bakery is nearby. We arrived very late n its dark by the time we reached n the staff stayed on to give us keys. some places do not.
Review 38:The wing we were in had walls we could hear next doors TV and talking until after midnight, and then they left early, isn't that always the way?
Review 39:Great location and view.
Review 40:Minor things. There was a walk from the car park up a narrow concrete path through the garden to our room. I was pleased it wasn't raining as we wheeled our cases from the car. This path was not well lit at night. The room had a plastic hot water jug which studies show are not good for health and dust on the table stand.
Review 41:A good location and nice view of the water. Central and close to cafes and the wharf. The room was warm and well set up. A good bathroom with a plenty of room for one's toilet bag. Cheerful and helpful staff
Review 42:You have to walk up the side of a hill to get to the restaurant you can walk up the very steep stairs or drive but if you are drinking with dinner best not to drive. Being older people we couldn't do the trip up to restaurant more than once. Food prices are very expensive.
Review 43:It is a quiet area with nice views of the sea. There is a great restaurant called hamer's grill, great food and service and it's on the esplaniade easily got to I give the grill 10 out of10 for food and service it's a must go to no reservations needed just walk in
Review 44:Very expensive for out dated decor. Bed position felt like I was in a camper trailer! Had to carry luggage along a back entrance to room. Wouldn't have minded but for the fact it was an expensive stay.
Review 45:Location
Review 46:We booked a 1 bedroom apartment but it was no bigger than a motel room and had exactly the same amenities. Cleanliness and attention to detail were lacking.
Review 47:The location was excellent
Review 48:Great location, Great staff the best place we stayed in tasmania. Jen on reception was excellent when we wanted a ground floor room changing our booking was no problem. Michelle from housekeeping was great showing us other rooms available.
Review 49:On arrival reception staff weren't willing to explain why they were charging my credit card $10.
Review 50:The best part was the location, perfectly positioned.
Review 51:Room looked onto carpark which was a little noisy and privacy felt compromised. Net curtains had a large tear in them. Colouring (dark yellow) was somewhat dated and off-putting and took away from the feeling of cleanliness, even though the facilities were spotlessly clean.
Review 52:Beautiful location. Room was clean, well appointed and comfortable. Really handy to the whole Strachan experience.
Review 53:Our room was the first one in the long corridor of rooms and right near the lift . We found our room very noisy even could hear the couple next door being amorous !
Review 54:The buffet breakfast and dinner were excellent with lots of choices and great tasting food. Well done to the chefs and cattering staff. Waitresses were very friendly also.
Review 55:We were there on a Sunday night and only the Hotel was open. The food was good though.
Review 56:The village atmosphere of the town and restaurants. Very scenic outlook from the accommodation.
Review 57:I booked a cheaper room so no view, but with no breakfast included, this was not good value for money compared with other accommodation we have had. No cooking facilities either!
Review 58:Musty smell, old heavy bedspread, dark room, bakery vent outside window and the noise and smell that started at 3 am., noise of breakfast patrons on the footpath below that began early, really bad pillows and mattress. Other than that, Strahan was delightful.
Review 59:No facilities except a toaster, a bar fridge, two knives, one tea spoon, and an analogue TV with 4 channels. No food provided and when we bought take away, staff were reluctant to provide a spoon to eat it with. Then they didn't wash the provided spoons when they did the coffee cups. Very dated furniture and decor. Flyscreen door to view was broken, so we couldn't keep it open to let fresh air in.
Review 60:The view from the window was nice, over looking the harbour
Review 61:Two Wi-Fi allocations does not work with 2 phones and a lap top. Why not just one code as most accommodation. Advise that there is a walk to your room no prob for us but could be for elderly.
Review 62:The size and out look of the room. That everything was available in the room eg umbrella (came in handy) iron ,toaster.
Review 63:Left my coat in the lounge and it was taken - put a black mark on the stay
Review 64:Pleasant place to stay. Close to cruise centre. Lovely view from front rooms.
Review 65:We were located in an old motel facility probably 1960s the web site indicated otherwise no aircondition ancient TV with set top box absolutely no outlook. We were located at the rear of their newer premises but still a rate in excess we were paying in Hobart . Very disappointing could not this outfit at all
Review 66:The town was pretty boring and only a few places to eat. We stayed two nights to accommodate the day river cruise, but Ii would advise not doing this.
Review 67:construction crew in main street just outside window started early both days, very disruptive had bad sleep both days, bed was much harder than i like.
Review 68:Beatiful location, to local shops and local environment
Review 69:Room was yellow. Yuk. No pictures on the walls and it had a 4:3 Standard definition TV!
Review 70:We were lucky as they had a special discount deal on. 15% discount on the ferry cruise was appreciated.
Review 71:Had trouble with key for room took 3 times, to get it right, very inconveient, because room was up high, had to keep driving down to recrption. Very annoying. Also buffet tea every night was a bit much, should have other options
Review 72:Verry clean room after we upgraded with a good view
Review 73:Nothing special. Everything was ok, but just ok. Got charged 10 dollars extra on my credit card. Dont know why. Cant be bothered to find out, as i will not consider returning to them in future
Review 74:The receptionist was not very friendly. The day of check-in was a cold rainy day and rooms were not ready at check-in time. Room is basic, remote control in room for TV not working very well
Review 75:No optus coverage and thanks to Wi-Fi able to keep in touch. Bed was a little firm and pillows need replacing.
Review 76:View was lovely and apartment was compact.
Review 77:I love the village feel....the staff got to know you quickly and always acknowledged you..thanks Craig & Kiara. I love that welcoming feeling! What a beautiful place to visit but it always comes down to how welcomed you are!! Second visit & would come back again!
Review 78:The bed was very comfortable, slept well : )
Review 79:The location was perfect for our needs, we were 2mins from the Cruise centre. We could see our boat ( Lady Jane Franklin 11 ) from our balcony We needed to be ready for the cruise by 8 am.
Review 80:would have been nice to have a microwave in the room. one ply toilet rolls buffet although highly recommended by staff was no more than average and NOT value for money
Review 81:great spot as far as being in the middle of everything.
Review 82:The restaurant wasn't opened for dinner only breakfast, because it is low season.
Review 83:We loved the view from the balcony and the location is handy to everything. We originally booked a cheaper room but upon viewing the room asked to be upgraded to the room we stayed in, and this was done without any problems. Catherine served us for breakfast in the restaurant, she was absolutely wonderful and had us in fits of laughter. Thanks for a great stay.
Review 84:tv is old and terriable and no free wifi that should be included everywhere else is
Review 85:as origianal apartment bein reno given apartment with front views of bay nice location
Review 86:Needs an update. Everything is a little old and tired. The restaurant was not open for dinner which was disappointing, and the breakfast a bit sloppy.
Review 87:It is in a great location, it has a restaurant/bar with magnificent views over the main street and the water.
Review 88:Weather was terrible but it didn't deter us from activities. Plan to do it again in summer
Review 89:Everything staff, food, activities, in particular the cruise and walk to the falls
Review 90:The waitress/bar person was loud, opinionated and made every conversation about her. Very Boorish.
Review 91:Reception staff welcoming and friendly. Comfortable room in close proximity to Strahan tourist activities. Cosy room in the middle of a wintery storm.
Review 92:View42 not open for dinner, no bowls in our room (we had to eat our cereal out of glasses). Found a dirty used band aid on bathroom floor. Pillows lumpy. Rooms are very outdated. Expected more for price of room.
Review 93:Prompt service, friendly staff. Room was warm which was nice as the weather was cold.
Review 94:Disappointing that the restaurant was closed for winter even though advertised that it was available.
Review 95:View from lounge/dining room Lovely cozy in lounge in front of log fire.
Review 96:Bit of a hike (& poorly lit) from the carpark with luggage to our upstairs room for my 70yr old mum but she managed ok.
Review 97:Within walking distance to shops and restaurants. Room well laid out with wall separating the 2nd bed giving some privacy (there were 3 of us)!
Review 98:WiFi signal is poor or not at all. TV is outdated but there is very few channels in Strahan to watch
Review 99:The position of the villas is fantastic, great walks close by and a great bakery and pub. Toiletries are top quality
Review 100:We stayed in the back section which was dated and without views. Booked on line but would have preferred views if I had known those were available
Review 101:Great location, good restaurant attached
Review 102:Didn't get the room configuration that was booked. Had to ask firmly for it to be changed. Single bed was located in tiny cell opposite bathroom, expected better.
Review 103:Good location near the Gordon River cruise boats. Nice view from bar, dining area.
Review 104:SEE MY REMARKS ON THE ROOM STANDARD
Review 105:LOCATION AND OUTLOOK BUT ONLY AFTER I UPGRADED MY ROOMAT EXTRA COST THE STANDARD ROOM I WAS FIRST OFFERED WAS DINGY AND HAD A VERY BLEAK OUTLOOK ALMOST BELOW CAR PARK LEVEL
Review 106:Not impressed with staff member who we first encountered. No smile or greeting at 1.45pm announced our room was not ready and would we go across the road and have a coffee. When we went back a while later she still had to check on room. Then told we had to drive up hill to find room. Everytime you wanted to go out in Strahan you had to take car to bottom of hill.
Review 107:The rooms are very poorly fitted. Old CRT 4:3 TVs (with Mt Isa stations), heaters that don't work, relatively uncomfortable beds (or at least not luxurious beds), old fridges, etc. Also, much of the precinct is owned by Strahan Village, giving it a monopoly on food and facilities which are then overpriced.
Review 108:The location of this accommodation is great, just across the road from the cruise terminal and near to the supermarket.
Review 109:Old fashioned TV. Would like to see a comfortable chair to sit in. Hamers Hotel menu and meal, not good.
Review 110:Comfortable. Great buffet for breakfast and dinner. Friendly staff.
Review 111:Just a tired "pub room" with small bathroom. Very poor water supply in the shower, one second hot, next second cold, had to be careful. Bar fridge very small. We work up at 3am every morning to the smell of pies and bread cooking in the bakery down stairs. Confusing and misleading accommodation descriptions and locations in print and electronic advertising.
Review 112:Great location, handy to cruse terminal and pub. Car parking reasonably close by.
Review 113:Great location, Fabulous views, the View 42o Restaurant was very good. Fortunately our room was close to the Restaurant, so very convenient. Had Dinner & Breakfast there. Very friendly & helpful Staff
Review 114:The convenience of being able to order at the restuarant and pub and bill being picked up at the same time as paying for your accomodation. Easter Bunny even found me, leaving a reasonable sized egg!!
Review 115:Calm, peaceful, beautiful. A wonderful location, excellent amenities, overlooking spectacular Macquarie Harbour. Delicious local foods in their restaurant and the local shops.
Review 116:Rude cold staff, didn't feel welcome and felt like it was an effort for them to answer any of my questions re: early checkout. Room (hilltop standard) looked old and could benefit from refurb. No air-con.
Review 117:Basic room if you only want a short stay, good location opposite the harbour and wharf.
Review 118:the room was exactly as described, comfy bed , fantastic view from the balcony and walking distance to the gordon river cruise. Restaurant was pleasant dining experience.
Review 119:My room was advertised as having cable channels but I was unable to access them. The on screen message said "these channels are unavailable owing to not having been subscribed to"
Review 120:Location was absolutely fabulous
Review 121:Facilities feeling b&g a little dated. Especially given the price charged
Review 122:Great location in a great spot for a great getaway. Friendly helpful staff and close to everything.
Review 123:Access to room - required to get luggage from car park up hill to room - would be difficult for seniors or disabled. Antiquated CRT TV - analogue channels , no digital , DVD's or foxtel (Strahan really has no nightlife so these would be handy). Every sound from adjacent rooms can be heard and being located above a bakery with staff working from very early is also very noisy. Overpriced - small room $179 compared with a fully self contained apartment in Hobart with harbour views ,pool ,under ground parking about 4 times the size for $170 a night. Staff when asked about dining choices around town only promoted businesses connected with Strahan village and not many other places around town.
Review 124:View was superb.
Review 125:the room situated on top of a hill could not be seen clearly in any publicity. Single NON drivers should be advised of this.
Review 126:On the whole it was pleasant
Review 127:Leaving
Review 128:The whole Strahan thing from accommodation to shops the cruise and the restaurant on the hill is surely one of the best things you could do whilst in Tasmania
Review 129:location of accommodation and great dinner buffett meal. Worth every cent of the $53 per head. Also enjoyed Strahan Cruise well worth doing. Staff Friendly and helpful,
Review 130:Ideal location - easy walk to all attractions. Room was comfortable and spacious. We evenhad a little verandah with a garden. Ideal for watching the world go by.
Review 131:Comfortable spacious room with lovely outlook. Reception staff very helpful. Great buffet dinner. Lots of things to do and see. Harbour cruise was excellent and the Play was very entertaining and informative.
