Reviews for Ryori Ryokan Tsurugata

Review 1:Forgetting which was my room and not being able to read the kanji at the door!

Review 2:A combination of the rustic and sophisticated ambience, with wood & other natural materials much in evidence

Review 3:The futons were thin and very uncomfortable as eve the pillows. I know ryokan use futons, but these were the least comfortable ones I've had. We were kept up past midnight by a loud room of older women below us. Their voices could be heard clearly anywhere in the ryokan, yet I had to go down and ask the front desk to shush them late at night.

Review 4:the dinner was quite good, served in the room by a friendly and efficient woman. The front desk staff were helpful, most of the time. The location of the ryokan is probably it's best feature, right in the river in the preserved old neighbourhood in kurashiki.

Review 5:Everything one would expect from a moderately expensive Japanese ryokan. Meals very good. Location right on canal through Kurashiki. A fair walk or short taxi from station.

Review 6:-a little bit old rooms. -no free wifi in the rooms.

Review 7:- very friendly staff ! - beautiful onsen ! - good breakfast (japanese style) - Great location within old town

Review 8:Breakfast was really somewhat overkill: from 7 to 8.30 am(max) soup, roasted fish, rice, veggies etc .. Very original but nothing for us It was quite pricy-2nigrs ca 800 usd( w dinner and breakfast) but in the standard room Room was super tiny- we had absolutely no space for us 2 Dinner was at 8pm the latest and there is actually absolutely nothing to do after dinner..

Review 9:The personal and atomosphere was just amazing, as well as dinners were- very traditional and definitely worth to experience if one has never stayed in ryokan before. The personal didn't speak almost any English, but one get used to those things in japan, the location if ryokan is beautifull, right at the river and village- center w lots of small cute shops and surrounded by amazing nature. We were staying 2 nights, the dinner is normally served in the room, which is somewhat intimate, the food quality was excellent, and it was 9 courses dinner, then they transfer your dining place into bamedroom, while u take a river-walk.. You sleep on the floor (one need to get used to do so) and shower while seating .. But all in all very romantic and def worth to experience the old traditional way of living..

Review 10:Didn't like first night kaseki menu but second night was better. Room smelt like old tatami mat.

Review 11:Kaseki menu the second night Good to be in the middle of the bikan historical district Traditional ryokan experience is very good Comfortable takes you back into historical japan with wonderful service at night with provision of lantern for a night stroll Staff do not speak English well

Review 12:No access to garden; construction going on while I was there--the public bath--definitely not conducive to relaxation

Review 13:Beatifico location in historic district

Review 14:staff, food overall Japanese experience

Review 15:free wifi is only available in lobby

Review 16:very kind service and clean room

Review 17:No signage in English made it difficult to find. We asked a local who pointed out we were only metres from it.

Review 18:Staff, food, location

Review 19:absence of a private garden.the small communal garden encroaches on the privacy of two guest rooms.somewhat pricey.Ryokans are not for the orthopedically challenged!

Review 20:excellent kaiseke.high quality ingredientsbeautifully presented.tranquil surroundings,right in the bikan neighbourhood..locatio,location,location!

Review 21:Dinner and breakfast that was included in the price of the room was of a rather average quality Hotel closes after midnight which is rather inconvenient

Review 22:Comfortable and traditional rooms Beautiful garden Ideal location

Review 23:The bath was nothing much - basically a hot tub for one person. Bath facility was ok for two persons (one in tub and another in shower), but more would have been uncomfortable.

Review 24:The hotel is an excellent option for trying out traditional Japanese inn experience - sleeping on futon on tatami etc. The food was just amazing. The hotel staff did not speak much english but sufficiently for managing practicalities, and they had a very customer-friendly attitude. The town itself was interesting to see, the old quarter was very picturesque. Maybe not worth several days' visit, but one day you can spend here easily.

Review 25:A night at Ryokan Tsurugata was the centerpiece of my weeklong trip to Japan. It fulfilled my hope for an old-fashioned kind of ryokan stay remembered from the 1960s. Very gracious and accommodating staff. Interaction with Keiko is a plus for foreigners, since I sense she truly enjoys interacting with foreign guests. Ryokan Tsurugata is wonderfully located in the center of the Bikan old town district. I wish I could've stayed much longer.

Review 26:Didn't expect smoking in rooms; the ryokan itself gets pretty smokyat night, which is not great if you're not used to it.

Review 27:A great experience to stay in a graceful and charming ryokan. Staffwere very helpful, with some English spoken. Food was amazing - dinnerone of the very best we had in two weeks in Japan. Breakfast was alsogood. Private baths were nice, location can't be beat. A comfynight's sleep.

Review 28:A bit "too" traditional perhaps (without enough flexibility to deal with travelers needs - or missing intention/interest?), we have seen other traditional houses that provided a more flexible and welcoming atmosphere;

Review 29:Good rooms, great dinner

Review 30:Great ryokan experience. Historical building in a peaceful location, right on the canal in the old area. Very friendly and welcoming staff. 12 course delicious dinner.

Review 31:A bit expensive for what you get. The food was ok but you need to have a strong affinity for Japanese food. You also have to like sleeping on the floor on a tatami mat.

Review 32:Very nice little town - in old city of Kurashiki. Staff was incredibly helpful and welcoming.

Review 33:Perhaps take earplugs as the walls are so thin which is to be expected in a traditional ryokan but the people above us were particularly heavy-footed.

Review 34:The location in the Bikan historical district was excellent and at night it was very quiet and pleasant to walk there. The food, although something of an acquired taste, was excellent at both dinner and breakfast and was quite an experience. The staff were very professional and attentive to your every need.

Review 35:The rooms were small and seating was limited to the low seats at the table. After dinner there was nowhere to sit.

Review 36:Staff were very nice, friendly and helpful. Food was excellent and we really appreciated having the menu in English

Review 37:Taste of old-world Japan, kindly women who serve you dinner in your room

Review 38:The dinner is not very good, does't worth the money. Same for breakfast

Review 39:Traditional beautiful rooms, very clean. Excellent location

Review 40:Authentic Japonese atmosphere, very friendly staff, beautiful garden.

Review 41:Hospitable and friendly staff. Good Japanese cuisine. Homely feel. In the midst of the beautiful historical area.

Review 42:everything!

Review 43:have time limitation for check in and at night

Review 44:Serve you like in home

Review 45:The ultimate Ryokan experience. Impeccable service. Some rooms have their own baths.
