Tatami (woven-straw) floors and Japanese futon beds create a traditional atmosphere in the rooms at Takahan Ryokan. All rooms have a flat-screen TV, and the attached bathroom comes with a bathtub.
Yuzawa Kogen Ski Resort and Gala Yuzawa Ski Resort are both about a 5-minute walk away. Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway is about a 5-minute drive from the property, and JR Echigo Yuzawa Station is one mile away. On-site parking is free.
Guests can enjoy the hot sauna or unwind in the massage chair at the relaxation room. Coin-operated laundry machines are available, and the lobby has free Wi-Fi.
A Japanese breakfast and traditional multi-course kaiseki dinner are served at the dining room.
This property is a ryokan, which is a type of traditional Japanese Inn. Learn more

Reviews for Takahan

Review 1:Hotel outside a bit mess, I'm a seafood allergy person,in checking time I talk to counter already , In the dinner I'm looking forward to eat Traditional Japanese meal, when dishes is coming I'm very disappointed. it's including shrimp in my sashimi dish and I also couldn't eat the Japanese steam egg ,they changed to ham and salad for me ,what a sadness night ,I'm in Traditional Japanese hot spring hotel I'm don't wanna eat western food here.

Review 2:Nice room and hot spring, free pick up service was quick.

Review 3:I like how everything is purely Japanese the room, facilities, food are all authentic Japanese. The staffs are very accomodating and nice. We got a big tatami room. The Location is very close to Gala Yuzawa Resort and Yuzawa Kogen Ski resort and 5-8 mins away to Echigo Yuzawa station. They offer free shuttle to different ski resorts and stations. I also like their onsen bath you don't need to bring you own toiletries since they offer them for free (shampoo, conditioner, facial soap cream lotion, body soap and lotion etc. Overall, it was a relaxing cozy stay.

Review 4:Bed not comfortable enough Chairs in the room not comfortable enough(for those not used to Japanese-style furnishings)

Review 5:Great view from the room. Very friendly service and very good food. Flexible and accommodating shuttle service from and to train station and ropeway station.

Review 6:The plumbing in the rooms is not great - hot water pressure on the 6th floor was spotty. Much better to use the hot springs bath downstairs instead!

Review 7:Great location literally across the street from ski slopes. The hotel provides a free shuttle to any of the resorts and to/from the train station. Kaiseki dinner (4000 yen extra) was top-notch. Natural hot springs bath. Extremely friendly and helpful staff.

Review 8:Nothing!

Review 9:The hotel is beautifully decorated and the spacious rooms got incredible view of the beautiful snow mountains. It was such a treat to me reading the book 'Snow Country' at the place where the author stayed for drafting the book. The breakfast is very nice. And above all, the staff were very helpful in making our stay an enjoyable one. We were so delighted to find out that Akiyama, the gentleman in charge of breakfast speaks very good English and he had been extremely kind and friendly to us. We are a family of 4 with 2 children over 12 and we booked 2 rooms. We loved Takahan experience and would definitely recommend it to all our friends.

Review 10:I had to layer a couple of futons on top of one another to get a comfortable bed. However, I faced this issue everywhere I stayed with non-Westerm beds.

Review 11:By the standards of other Japanese hotels I've stayed in the size of the room was huge and very comfortable to lounge in after a day of skiing. The shuttle service was good and staff were friendly and accommodating - so accommodating that they ran a special early shuttle just for me to male my early train. Couldn't recommend this place any higher.

Review 12:Everything was wonderful but we especially liked the onsen and the meals - delicious. The staff were delightful and we appreciated the free shuttle to and from the station.
