Reviews for The Green Edge

Review 1:Nothing. The Green Edge was one of our favourite stays.

Review 2:Duel and his team were the most welcoming & accommodating hosts. Incredibly helpful, always went the extra mile to make sure we were happy. The Green Edge has it's own garden where the team grow their own spices & have a bee hive. Duel's wife made us some delicious home cooked Sri Lankan style dinners and woke up super early one day to make us a packed breakfast to take on a day trip. The guesthouse is a good distance away from the busy Dambulla town, so it was nice and peaceful. Only the sounds of squirrels & birds. It was a 30min walk from the main street through rice fields & round a pretty lake or a 5-10min Tuk Tuk ride. Duel was kind enough to drop us off at the local bus stop for our day trips. Duel & Lokie organised our drive back to Negombo for a very reasonable price. Excellent Wifi. I would definitely recommend this place and would love to stay here again.

Review 4:This hotel is the best hotel that we have stayed at in Sri Lanka. The staff were extremely accommodating and nothing was too much for them. They went out of their way to make our stay extra special. The location was perfect! The hotel is hidden away which made it peaceful and relaxing. Thank you for making our stay unforgettable! Breakfast and dinner was amazing and super cheap I would 100% recommend staying here

Review 5:On arrival we were greeted with a cool juice and sat on the table by the terrace chatting with the very friendly owner. We were shown to a really nice and very modern room. The shower was very nice and powerful and the whole room was very clean. He offered us his bikes which we used to cycle by the lake and onto the temple. It took no more than 10 minutes and was an easy ride. That evening, we had a delicious chicken biriyani at the guest house. We arranged that we would take a tuk tuk at 6.30am to Sigiriya and it wouldn't be a problem to have our breakfast on our return circa 9.30am. The care that was put into our stay didn't go unnoticed. On departure, the owner even dropped us into town for no extra cost. The owner is very passionate about his business and I would certainly recommend staying here.

Review 6:Very friendly owner, beautiful garden and scenery around, very clean & modern rooms, in the evening we had a delicious home-cooked dinner in front of our room! Early breakfast the next day no problem - all in all a perfect stay!!

Review 7:Breakfast was delicious but we were a little disappointed that we didn't realise they would provide a Sri Lankan breakfast on request, until after we had left.

Review 8:You must eat dinner here when you stay. The food was delicious, we could not fault it! Udana has built this beautiful guest house himself and the love and care is obvious.

Review 9:It was raining and cold when we came, so warm water would be nice, but there is no heater. This is usual in many places as we found later. Shared terrace and the only windows to the room from this terrace cause, that you have to shut your curtains through the day, if you like privacy. But it is not such a big deal.

Review 10:We came in the evening to stay for one night so we didn't mind a distance to the town. It is hidden in a "forrest", a little hard to find, but the staff came to navigate us from the road. The place is really nice, garden is natural, rooms are nice, quiet /if you don't mind frogs/ and clean and they welcomed us with tea and biscuits. We had dinner, which was really tasty and when we finnished first portion, another came immediately :) Wifi works great. I would definetely recommand this place! :)

Review 11:Nothing!

Review 12:The host was really nice and helpful and went out of his way to make us feel comfortable. His story is very interesting of how he built the hotel and what his plans were. The rooms were done to a very high standard and all of the features went well together. Bed was very comfortable, had a/c and a fan. Also really liked the dimmable light which we kept on overnight on low. Breakfast was amazing, scrambled egg and toast with a nice selection of fruit. There is an outdoor seating area for the guests, table and chairs and also some very comfortable sofas. We don't normally return to hotels but we will be returning here. There was also a very friendly and helpful staff member helping out at the hotel, helping with luggage and breakfast and always smiling. Helped me check over the car before we left and refilled my washer fluid. Very nice of them Location has been mentioned as a problem by other guests but there is some good signage from the main road and is less than a 2 minute drive from the main road. Location is absolutely perfect.

Review 13:It's just the improvements - Please have geezer in all the rooms so that during winter guests can use hot water...( even though it has been arranged by Udana after placing request)

Review 14:The location was bit scary at the initial stages but then Udana told later that due to rain the main roads were damaged and hence the trouble ... Location is perfect sorounded by the green banmboo trees and Rooms are very clean and neat..Udana was very smiling person who welcomed as his friends and treated us in true concern and made very comfortable ..food is also very good and because of the road damage he gave us complimentary dinner as well which is very sweet of him and he voluntarily does that ...very gem of person and I truly recommend in staying his hotel for other tourists ...

Review 15:Dont expect the full care catalogue hotel if you come to this place with massage service and rooftop terrace. The individual service you will get here is even better! Since this hotel is located inside a typical Sri Lankan suburb, you will definetly need a gps to find it.

Review 16:This is one of the best hotels I had during my journey through Sri Lanka. With only 5 apartements, the owner provides you a one-man-show, once you are stay here. From pick up from the bus station and organizing tour-guides for your daily trips, until special needs for the dishes, everything will be organized perfectly. The hotel is located in a really quiet and natural area of Dambulla, but still near to the most important sights. The rooms are large, modern and clean, you will have a terrace in front of your door to take the breakfast and dinner, if you wish. I had both all days I stayed there and it was delicious and every day different. Wifi is working fast and stable, private parking available. Perfect for couples of all ages and (young) families. If I come back to Dambulla, I will stay here again, 100% recommondation.

Review 17:An exciting hotel . Cosy, homely, and the owner is supberb. The owner has exquiste taste in decorating his 5 rooms boutique hotel. The bathroom had expensive finishes. Great place to relax after the visit to the Golden temple. The owner is so very nice , honest, accomodating at all times. His beds, in fact the whole hotel is designed by him and he thinks of all the minute details to the guests comforts. I wished i had spent more time there. A classy hotel in Dambulla. Worth every dollar.

Review 18:The owner and his aid were amazing, they are so friendly and eager to do anything to make your stay more pleasant. The owner's wife does the cooking the food and it is really tasty The rooms are clean and extremely comfortable

Review 19:It was a very quiet place near enough to walk to town but out of the hustle and bustle. The grounds were beautiful, food was excellent and the staff were great.

Review 20:You need to do it on booking.com We had an excellent experience at this location. I would like to elaborate point wise why we did. 1. We reached the hotel on 12/10/15 at 7pm, a little beyond the check in time. The owner welcomed us and asked us if our travel was good. He first served us tea and biscuits and then initiated the check in procedure. 2. The rooms were good. Very cozy with air conditioner working well. 3. The owner would spend time with you if you wanted to discuss your local plans. He would then give you inside tips on how to be careful and save some money as well. 4. We wanted to go to the buddhist temples and our tuk tuk did not arrive. He lent us his own tuk tuk to get us dropped to the location close by. I was very touched with his gesture. 5. He would ask us for breakfast options on his own the day before. Make sure you eat the rice hoppers. They are delicious. The icing on the cake was our last day. We had no idea about the bus to colombo and so we asked him. He replied saying he would take care of it. He got his tuk tuk out and personally drove it to the bus stop. He waited till our bus arrived and put us on it. To sum it up in one statement "The Owner understands the meaning of the word hospitality

Review 21:Nothing not to like

Review 22:Despite all of the positive reviews, our stay at The Green Edge still exceeded our expectations. The service was exemplary ,the food was amazing and the room was very clean and maintained to a very high standard. This is a little gem in Dambulla .Don't miss out!!

Review 23:Road to reach it was bad, it is a bit far from the center.

Review 24:Cozy rooms and nice staff, we got lots of homegrew organic Mangos and a nice breakfast. Atmosphere was lovely in the evening on the terrace with many lights in the park. Not far away from the cave temple.

Review 25:Nothing springs to mind...

Review 26:Owner and employees did everything they could to make your stay pleasant. Newly build place, so in good condition. Home cooked food was delicious!

Review 27:We hired a driver and when we arrived Dambulla, it was actually hard to find the place as not what I expected from just looking at the map. Not far away from the city centre, but we needed to go through some narrow sandy roads inside a village-like area. Despite of this, we are so impressed with the decent decoration & room facilities and very nice service by the owner during our stay. We love the outdoor dining/ lobby area surrounded with the forest hanging around with different lamps and lightings. The place just make you feel calm and peace. Definitely suggest this place with a very reasonable price, just that you need to prepare to find the exact location ahead and expect quite time after evening. The owner should have been setting up some more obvious signages along the way as we suggest!

Review 28:Kerosene light should not be used to distract insects at night . This could pollute the air.

Review 29:The room is very clean and comfortable bed. The property is located in a very quiet and greenery environment . The host is very friendly and well manner.

Review 30:Wifi signal in our room is very bad. Breakfast has no meat. The road condition is very bad. The chicken rice we odered for dinner contained just one little piece of meat.

Review 31:Warm staff, comfortable room. Every day with a glass fresh juice(free).

Review 32:Internet speed and WiFi was symbolic. But knowing host, we are sure, it functioning today already perfectly:) Public access road 1-2 km from Dambulla was wild, but positively exotic.

Review 33:We stay in hotel 2 nights. We found hotel's location logistically very good. In one day we visit with tuk-tuk Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa. Golden Temple Dambulla 10-15 minutes drive. Host is excellent, trying to make our stay most comfartable. Host can assist with transport. Well balanced quality/price.

Review 34:A little bit awkward to find as it is down an un-signposted dirt road and, at the time of our stay, you needed to 'phone for directions from the main road. However the owner advised us that he is planning to erect signposts in the near future, which should eliminate this small problem.

Review 35:Really excellent (new) accommodation. The owner and his staff were extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. As there were (at the time of our visit) only 3 rooms there was no restaurant or bar, but on request the owner will provide an evening meal at very reasonable cost and also send someone to the local 'Wine Stores' with your order for alcoholic drinks etc..

Review 36:Big rooms, very clean, strong hot shower, delicious home-cooked meals and very very friendly and helpful staff. They helped us organize trips around the area and woke up extra early to prepare breakfast for our morning hike

Review 37:We spend three nights at the Green Edge and were sad when we had to leave. The guesthouse is in a beautiful, quiet location just outside of Dambulla. It's a half hour walk to town and we enjoyed the surroundings, walking by fields and a nice pond. The owner was very friendly and anxious to make us feel like home, which we did. He arranged trips to Sigiriya, Polonaruwa, Minneriya National Park and the Dambulla Caves for us. His staff member took us to all these places and helped us with everything, e.g. renting bicycles in Polonaruwa. The owner's wife cooked dinner for all the guests every night and the rice and curry was the best we had during our time in Sri Lanka. The rooms are spacious and clean and equipped with lovely furniture which is actually made by a family friend. The owner build the guest house by himself and is very passionate about it. We really enjoyed our stay there.

Review 38:Perhaps lack of a pool and bar/restaurant. However, they have plans to make one. I still think its worth visiting.

Review 39:Cleanliness and homey feel; very nice manager/owner. The rooms and furniture are all made at location, very nice comfortable rooms.

Review 40:Nothing.

Review 41:Awesome and super friendly owners and staff. They picked us up, and dropped us off, at the bus station with their tuk tuk. Beautiful surroundings and rooms. Owners built the property and most furniture. Great delicious breakfast. Couldn't have asked for a better accommodation.

Review 42:The best guest house in Sri Lanka. The owner is the most hospitable guy and enourmously friendly and helpful. His wife cooks delicious food. The rooms are beautiful and clean. The bathroom is great. They also offer great day trips to Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa and also to Minneriya National Park (which is unfortunately not advertised on the website). The breakfast is also fantastic and they will drive you to the bus station and point out the correct bus for you (free of charge). We enjoyed our stay a lot and it was quite relaxing!

Review 43:Everything was Wonderful !

Review 44:Myself and my friend stayed here for two nights it was Fantastic. The owners could not have been more welcoming, the food was Beautiful and the comfort and cleanliness of the rooms were excellent. I would definately recommend this accommodation and if I ever travel to Dambulla again I will be sure to stay here.

Review 45:Absolutely nothing.

Review 46:The place is in the middle of the woods. The owner built 3 beautiful rooms - perfectly equipped, super comfortable, VERY clean! Hot water, air conditioner, anything that you need (and is not always found in the guesthouses and even hotels in Sri Lanka). The price is unbelivebly affordable, definitely the best value for money we had in Sri Lanka. Food is made by the owners, dishes are delicious and generous. We went on an early trip so they packed our breakfast, we got the feeling that they really love what they do and care for their guests.

Review 47:there is nothing to dont like at all

Review 48:Spacious rooms, big bed,new shower and home made furniture was amazing. The owner is young guy, passionate and warm hearted fella. Try his home made honey! Family can cook for you and its superb, i just hope he meets only good customer, this place deserves it

Review 49:Beautifully designed, relaxing and pleasant accommodation. Evening dinners were especially tasty and the hosts were very welcoming and helpful with any needs.

Review 50:We chose this place almost by chance for our first night in SL..and it was a wonderful surprise. The lodge is very nice with comfortable and clean rooms. Dule&family warmly wecomed us and prepared superb dinner and breakfast! But their kindness went well beyond this in helping us when we had a problem with our car. Thanks again!!!!

Review 51:Location doesn't offer much in terms of entertainment and access.

Review 52:Owner is very friendly and helpful. All new renovated modern boutique hotel. Great home cooked meals. Nice to get off the main busy street for peaceful relaxation.

Review 53:Accommodating staff, comfy bed, good food reasonably priced. Nice quiet location if a little difficult to find.

Review 54:The property is located away from the town and quite difficult to find.

Review 55:A green environment , surrounded by trees. Very clean and comfortable beds.
