Reviews for Clube Porto Mos - Sunplace Hotels & Beach Resort
Review 1:The staff was friendly and helpful. The pools were beautiful though it was too cool to use the outdoor pool. Closeness to the beach and a great beach restaurant were definite pluses. The value for the price was excellentl.
Review 2:Dinner buffet not to good, food had no flavor, bland. Food & Drink prices too high. All rooms should have a water kettle. Outdoor pool is not heated in wintertime.
Review 3:View from the room of the beachfront. Walking or public transportation to Lagos was easy. Happy hour.
Review 4:It is unfortunate that the wonderful accommodation was let down by the very uncomfortable beds and pillows. A hotel of this standard should have mattress enhancers and proper pillows.
Review 5:The situation was excellent as was the standard of accommodation.
Review 6:The hairdryer needs changing, the hose gets too hot to hold, impossible to use!
Review 7:This is a perfect place for us. It was our 7th stay and we will no doubt visit again.
Review 8:Nice location, close to the beach, but quite remote from the city. The apartments are large, with a balcony and with a full kitchen. The breakfast is very good. Wifi is free of chargé only near the reception and the fee for wifi in the room is quite reasonable.
Review 9:No bad experience but disappointed the restaurant didn't offer a Portuguese menu, it's Portugal, offer the delicious food of our country, that's how it is in any other country.
Review 10:The location, it's amazing, pool facilities, cleanliness.
Review 11:They are so cheap. Everything is not included or wifi in the room. Every guest is sitting in the lobby going on wifi. It is sad. We paid extra so we didn't stay in the lobby. The use of a safe in the room is extra. The staff was all about nichol and dining the tourist and not very pleasant.
Review 12:Besides from the beaches nearby, the hotel has a fashion disaster stuckin the 90'S. Wifi was only free at the reception (it's the year2015 for crying out loud) and available at a per-device price. Thevillas' bathrooms didn't include shampoo or other toiletries. The villa included a tv from before the wars, and only showed GermanTV-programs."2/10 would rather sleep in the car". The 2 points I'm giving because unlike the advertized "15€ deposit" we we're given towels for free after we checked out and wanted to use the showers after a day at the beach.
Review 13:The closest beach was right next to the hotel, and accessible via aslightly precarious path. Praia do Camilo (look it up) was a short driveaway and a really cool place.
Review 14:Just a small thing; lack of toiletries in the bathroom. We were only staying for one night and I hadn't properly understood that this was a truly 'self catering' apartment. The only form of toiletries provided was a soap pump on the bathroom wall. Just a thought, in case anyone else might make the same mistake as me (used to hotels).
Review 15:Super location a short walk down to a lovely sandy beach with two good restaurants. The grounds are kept beautifully and the style of apartments make the accommodation more private. The pool area didn't feel crowded even though we stayed at the height of season.
Review 16:No free wifi in the room (as advertised). Hotel was not on the beach, but rather close to it. Not very clean. Insufficient A/C in the room.
Review 17:Bartender (Rui) and receptionist (Patricia) went the extra mile in helping us. Their efforts made-up for the lack of effort the others.
Review 18:No water sold at reception in the late night. We were told we could not use the Jacuzzi late at night unless there was 7 of us using it? Seems strange. When we asked for a late check out they only let us know at 9.55am on the day of departure, that we could stay until 12. No waiter service at the pool, all self service - did not feel like a 4 star at all. Rooms clean but very basic. Having said all that, would go back, without the expectation of a 4 star resort, it is more like a 2 to 3 star.
Review 19:location, very close to beach, big pool. Friendly Staff.
Review 20:lack of free Wi-Fi entrance only at the bottom of the bottom of small hill while the resort stretches all the way to the top so you have to go down first to go back up to your room
Review 21:the location and the view are excellent good restaurants near by
Review 22:The gym (that didn't really exist), wifi, the smell in our room, and the fact that our room didn't match our expectations (i.e. The photos on the internet) at all.
Review 23:The location, the views, and the pool area
Review 24:Proximity to beautiful beach of Porto Mos. Entire property very well maintained and super-friendly and obliging staff, especially Edna, Patricia and Ricardo on reception. Beautiful pool area. 30-minute walk to Lagos town centre, with lots of fantastic restaurants, bars, shops etc.
Review 25:Sofa bed was uncomfortable,
Review 26:Loved staying in the garden area, relaxing part of Lagos, near beach. Room was cleaned daily, towels provided and there wa plenty of space and storage.
Review 27:Our girls slept in the bedroom, we slept in the sofa that could be turned into a bed, this was a little hard.
Review 28:The location, on top of a cliff with nice view over the beach and sea, friendly staff, nice breakfast, pool. Our children loved it and so did we!
Review 29:The only drawback was the lack of free wifi in the villas. The free wifi in public areas only extended to the reception, bar, and hotel restaurant. They should have free wifi by the pool but I will still return tomorrow if given the opportunity.
Review 30:My friends and i are studying abroad and we make it a point to see a new place every weekend. This hotel exceeded all expectations. When we arrived we received a free room upgrade and a complimentary bottle of wine. Our other friends stayed in a hotel that was twice as expensive on the other side of town and did not enjoy the weekend half as much as my roommate and I. The view was gorgeous, the indoor pool was shallow yet well maintained. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating; their honest opinions made all the difference when we were planning our days in Lagos. We fell in love and only regret having to return to Sevilla.
Review 31:Facilities (gym, spa) much in need of repair, internet iffy and expensive. Rather basic rooms and service but the beauty of the location compensated. Not on google maps - hard to find. Annoying to have to pay for each hotel meal (rather than running a tab).
Review 32:Wonderful location on bluff over sandy beach of the Atlantic. Especially beautiful in off-season with only a few other people, dogs and fishermen on the beach. Easy access to Lagos.
Review 33:Clube Porto Mos has that feeling of a 'struggling hotel'. Beach towels must be hired for a fee, bikes hired for a fee, wifi only available for free in the reception area (it's at a cost in your room), and the buffet dinner, while affordable, is provided by a separate company and resembles sub-standard residential college food. There was a bottle of warm, white wine on the table in our room when we arrived. It was a nice gesture, but I can tell the hotel picked cheaply, as it was nasty to taste. The effort would have been better spent lending beach towels for free (considering Porto Mos is only minutes from the hotel). You can also expect two single beds pushed together in place of a double with separate single-bed linen (if a double bed is what you requested when you booked). Now I've stayed in first and third world countries where two single beds pushed together have been made up with king size sheets to make a very comfortable double bed, so I'm not sure why it was so hard for Clube Porto Mos to do the same. When I raised the issue with the scowling, stiff-looking gentleman at reception, I was told they did not have any king size bedding. Maybe it was too expensive. My advice is keep looking.
Review 34:Despite a few hiccups at the beginning of our stay, I did really come to like this accommodation. It was quiet at night and an easy walk down to one of the nicer beaches of the Algarve. The exterior facilities of the resort are tidy and well kept, gardens are nice and it looks like the buildings have been recently painted. The pool is lovely and its great to lie nearby in the afternoon sun. What I liked most was having the self contained accommodation to make breakfast for the morning, which we ate on our little patio in the warm sunshine. The woman who worked at reception at night with a slight american accent was exceptionally helpful and cheery. She was really lovely and helped us pick out some nice beaches for a day trip.
Review 35:Poor quality fittings. Pillows thin and lumpy. No cushions on setee or chairs. No tumblers. Kettle not working and hob worn. Fridge old and worn
Review 36:Location excellent. Spacious apartment well kept grounds good pool with plenty of sun beds
Review 37:Nearest supermarket that we saw was a good 15 minute walk and we gottaxis into Lagos centre as we felt it was a little too far to walk in 30degree heat but taxis only cost around 5 euro so it wasn't too bad.
Review 38:Stunning and tranquil hotel and pool area, beside a quiet beach. Westayed for a family wedding in a neighbouring hotel. Not a lot to do butif you are after a peaceful relaxing holiday, this is the place for you.
Review 39:The breakfast is awful, worst coffee in history (but at the same time, the one you can buy at the bar is superb). Awful orange juice, do not pay for breakfast. Room could be a bit nicer or just a bit updated.
Review 40:The gardens, the sea view, direct access to a nice beach, no children (!), staff spoke good English or German, the pool area.... Everything was very clean.
Review 41:The beds are made of styrofoam Way, way too hard
Review 42:Location is magnificent Pool is fabulous Grounds are clean and well manicured Landscaping is beautiful Rooms are perfect, fantastic view Well equipped
Review 43:Bare room like a prison cell no creature comforts at all. Definately not 4 star, no luxury or charm cold reception from staff. Stuck up place that takes very good care of its grounds but everything else is bland.
Review 44:Perfect spot on the beach easy access to Lagos even without a hire car. Cleaners deserve a pay rise.
Review 45:The apartments are tired and dated. Definitely not 4star when compared to the Belmar across the road where I've stayed twice. The ladies in the cafe/bar were generally unfriendly, unhappy looking, disinterested.
Review 46:The grounds are lovely. Beautifully maintained. The ladies at reception were always very helpful. The location is great.
Review 47:36 euros a night even with a bottle of given wine! What can I complain? Especially when everything else is also wonderful!
Review 48:Location, location, location.
Review 49:Great location, 2 minutes to beach, very comfortable and clean, excellent and professional service.
Review 50:Location
Review 51:location and cleanleness of the room sea views were amazing and facilities were fantastic
Review 52:Great location Well maintained Friendly staff
Review 53:Nice, quiet place on the coast of sea.
Review 54:the villa is little old, need fixing
Review 55:beach is close (100m); private
Review 56:Very expensive
Review 57:Excellent self contained apartment. Very clean
Review 58:Nothing
Review 59:Location , facilities , cleanliness and overall enjoyment factor
Review 60:Not being able to sort the litter at the apartment. Paid wi-fi!
Review 61:Helpfulness of the staff at the reception.
Review 62:No free Wifi in the room is a no-go in this price class.
Review 63:very nice place if you want to relax
Review 64:room a little basic in decor
Review 65:location, friendly staff, facilities, sea view,
Review 66:15-20 minute walk into the old town
Review 67:Easy walk to some excellent restaurants on the beach
Review 68:Wifi is wery poor.
Review 69:my apartment was excellent with stunning views and the beach only five minutes away was never ever crowded wonderfull
Review 70:We went there just for few days to relax! this weekend couldn't be aby better! Excellent location and beautiful view. highly recommend!
Review 71:No kettle in the room
Review 72:i had no car so the hill up to the apartment was a problem
Review 73:the veiw was fantastic
Review 74:Small tv
Review 75:Close to the beach, view
Review 76:Bathroom ventilation was very poor. No place to put your bathroom stuff.
Review 77:Location and the view
Review 78:great location and very friendly & helpful staff
Review 79:ROCK hard beds & very small pillows
Review 80:Fantastic Pool, close to great beach & 2 beach restaurants very good .. Especially the curry prawns
Review 81:Very niggling to have to pay for WiFi. in room. Free in lobby but not a good place to internet. Poor lounge area. This needs to be upgraded now. More like an after thought. The whole lounge/bar area is basic, we did not have one drink there or relax to watch a world cup game, shame really. They are missing a trick here. We went over road to the new Belmar apartments, very nice lounge area, big flat screen TV,s and large beer euro 2.5.
Review 82:Location & view of beach & bay. Apt cleaned every day. Flexibility of type of package i.e. room only, or with breakfast etc. Gardens & parking great. Quality of fellow guests, nice & quiet, but lively enough during the day. Size of room and beds very comfortable. Kitchen well stocked with utensils to provide snacks etc, and even cook a meal if you wished.
Review 83:The staff were okay not rude not nice. The room I had was okay. The food at the restaurant was okay. The bed was okay. Everything about this hotel was simply that...OKAY. Ugh I will not be staying at this hotel again nor will I ever step foot in Portugal again! I've been twice (two different cities) and both experiences were awful. P.s. The bottom of the indoor pool will cut up your toes.
Review 84:I liked the pool. That's it.
Review 85:Felt the 'deluxe' description was a bit over the top! We felt the actual apt was a little on the basic - no fridge freezer - no oven - only 2 ring hob - no toiletries - no cushions on settee - had to rent key to safe. Also no tumblers - no sieve - no tin opener and only white plastic balcony furniture! Still would go again due to location
Review 86:our 1 bedroom apt had 2 balconies - one facing the sea from the bedroom and another off the lounge with sea and side view which was perfect . Just a little climb up from the beach and restaurants - location great. Apartments in villas made a nice change from the normal corridors.
Review 87:My wife and I showed up for breakfast one morning about 15 minutes before serving was to be finished. Well the cook working in the morning got very upset and yelled from the kitchen fo rat least 15 minutes. He yelled at the waitress and we knew he was yelling at us as he made reference to English people on several occasions. No breakfast included in the room rate and therefore cost 17 euros for the two of us.
Review 88:The view from the room. Quiet location. Mostly friendly staff. Free parking. Nice walk from the hotel to downtown Lagos. Lots of restaurants close by.
Review 89:The only downside was that there was no in-room WiFi, only in the lobby.
Review 90:Our room had an incredible view of the beach and ocean for 45 euros a night! The staff was so helpful and really cared about us, I felt very welcome there and appreciated their service.
Review 91:Internet in public area only. Breakfast was ordinary.
Review 92:Balcony view of the Ocean. Easy walk to excellent beach. Two great restaurants within easy walk. Free parking.
Review 93:The description of the room type was not clear, which gave me a misunderstanding that all rooms for two persons had a kitchenette.
Review 94:The room was very clean and comfortable, with a nice sea view.
Review 95:The front office staff is jaded. The rooms are comfortable, however this property is unprepared for winter months. The bathroom is completely unheated and icy. The bedroom in the one-bedroom suite is also unheated. The local temps at night were 8 C, and when we requested an electric radiator from the reception, they seemed put out. Only after our threat to leave the property did they find a (good) radiator. The mini-split, wall heater in the living/dining/kitchen area is adequate for those areas, but certainly not enough for the bedroom... There are thermostats on the wall but they did not work. When I inquired from the reception why they don't function, they responded that those were for the under-floor heating, for which we would have to pay extra. A four star establishment? Please...
Review 96:Good location and nice grounds. Sauna, whirlpool and modest indoor pool were appreciated during our winter stay. Breakfast was pretty good, though not included in our rate. Dining room staff was very nice.
Review 97:The staff from the reception was kind of rude They asked us to pay at check in, not as normal at check out The sheets smelled The wi-fi did not work
Review 98:The location was very nice The ocean view The check out was at 10, but we were able do it a little bit later, until 12
Review 99:When booking I thought I was getting kitchen in room, when I arrived I got tiny room I asked to be upgraded too room with kitchen and they wanted €30 extra per night. I wouldn't of booked hotel if didn't have kitchen. Few miles away from Lagos so you couldn't really walk it. Hill is too steep for older people so would need car. Absolutely no English people in hotel just ill mannered Germans. Gym is not really gym it has about 3 machines i.e. treadmill & bike, I wanted to do weights everyday so was pointless. Can only use internet in reception. Only 3 English channels on tv. They could do with lighting paths at night as we had to use light on my phone too see where we was walking.
Review 100:Hotel is nice and quite, great views, beach at bottom of path, food is good. Pools are nice. Rooms cleaned everyday. Hotel has a lot of potential if they changed few things like gym, kitchen & internet in all apartments. Lagos is very quite town and suitable for older people or if you just need quite break.
Review 101:Disappointed that booking.com had not actually guaranteed the room we wanted. There was no sea view and the garden flat was [as often in this part of Europe] damp and musty.
Review 102:The fact that the hotel rang us to say it couldn't honour the booking and offering an alternative.
Review 103:the seagulls at night - they just never stopped!!!! :(
Review 104:Everything was just fab, lovely quiet place for a relaxing holiday. No noise at night and pool area was never overly busy. Reception staff was so helpful, always trying to get cheaper travel etc for us. Household ladies did an amazing job - apt cleaned everyday.
Review 105:Excellent location. Nice view from the window on the ocean in the sea-view room. Very useful and helpful personnel on reception. Near hotel the hiking rout along the coast with wonderful view. Hotel territory very green and well-groomed.
Review 106:Beds were like sleeping on a hard rock. Wifi was not working. Television was not working. Lady at the front desk had major attitude and did not send a tech to fix our TV. She belittled us for not knowing what was wrong with our TV. The other lady that worked the desk was super nice.
Review 107:Great location and near the beautiful beach. Everything supplied for lengthy stay. Shower was amazing.
Review 108:Was very good all round Could improve on evening meals to encourage people to eat in Minor thing, coffee machine not the best for quality in breakfast room, could be improved
Review 109:Excellent and very helpful front desk reception Very friendly staff at all levels Very clean and well managed Villas Excellenly maintained grounds and swimming pool
Review 110:No shops nearby.
Review 111:The staff were so friendly and welcoming, spoke very good English and went out of their way to help. The apartment was spotless, spacious and up-to-date. The area is quiet and relaxing, with lovely views of the sea.
Review 112:Personally, nothing to dislike. The free wifi is only in reception and even then it's poor speeds. A car is essential unless you plan limit yourself to the one local beach and two restaurants. Be prepared to make your own entertainment out of season.
Review 113:Sea view from the top price rooms is worth the money. We enjoy the lack of rowdy people or traffic and the beautiful sight and sound of the sea. This is an excellent place to relax and unwind, with enough to occupy you nearby if you have a car.
Review 114:The staff could be really unhelpful. There was one man who was one of the biggest jerks I've ever met in my life. He was so unhelpful, and whenever we walked into reception he greeted us with a glare, but there were other staff members who were very friendly especially one young woman who helped my friends and I figure out our bus situation.
Review 115:The villa was great! Perfect size and the pool/hot tub facilities were nice, but we had trouble with getting into them sometimes. There is a beach with two great beachfront restaurants literally steps from the door.
Review 116:freezing bathroom cold apartment specially the first days until it warmed up a little bit
Review 117:excellent location space in apartment peace and quiet villas
Review 118:Indoor swimming pool - please closed it otherwise people can havedifferfent impression about the whole Hotel.
Review 119:Great location, nice surrounding, aircondition, very pleasent lady atreception on the 7th 8th of November.
Review 120:had to ask for more shampoo on two days. No clock, iron coffee maker in room. a little gift store with juice, water + snacks would be useful as closest grocery is several blocks - not everyone rents cars. helpful staff
Review 121:good location to beach with some amenities, but pools were cool.
Review 122:Feels like a 3-star place in a 5-star location. Gardens are beatiful, buildings look good on the outside, but decoration of the rooms is doneon the cheap: tiles of lowest quality, tiny washbasin without even roomto put toiletry kit (leave alone two), the smallest table/desk I haveever seen in a hotel room outside rural India, with barely enough spacefor portable plus mouse, €5 plastic chairs on the balcony, so-sobreakfast more befitting a 3-star hotel, unfriendly staff. Security isnon-existant: anyone can just walk into the sprawling compound andwander into any of the 'villas' that house the rooms. No elevator, sofrom the carpark I had to lug up my suitcases a total of 25 flights ofstairs. The general feel is of a place for package tourists fooled byappearances. Got fooled myself... I would recommend the place if yourexpectation is 3-star.
Review 123:Location is superb. Right on the rocks above Porto de Mos beach, great views.
Review 124:Petty rules at the bar, cash only nothing to be charged to the room, aggressive bar manageress. The rooms were adequate but apart from the pool it didn't feel like a four star hotel, we could have more pillows if we collected them etc...
Review 125:Perfect location close to the beach. When there was a problem with the plumbing the reception staff were quick and efficient to resolve.
Review 126:One of my sons has a heart condition and we stayed at the top of thehill which made life a little tiresome for him. At nights we drove downthe hill with the car to avoid him having to walk back up the hill. Iguess if we came back we would request an apartment or villa close toreception. Around the pool area during the day and at nights a littlemusic to liven the place up would have helped. At times it was veryquite - didn,t want a full scale disco but it was dead at times. Thiswould help generate a better atmosphere in the early evening and mighteven help to increase the bar finances ??
Review 127:The location was great and enjoyed being close to the beach and havingtwo great little restaurants close by. It mean,t we could stay at PortoMos at night if we wished or alternatively get a taxi into town. Nice tohave the choice and not do the same thing every night. The receptionstaff where very helpful and spoke very good English which does help.
Review 128:The only complaint we have is that the pillows were kind of terrible.Hopefully it was just our room, and it's something that they caneasily replace!
Review 129:We loved the location and the 1 bedroom deluxe apartment was veryspacious. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, and we feltlike they really took care of us. The baby's crib was set up and allready to go when we arrived.
Review 130:Very nice staff that was super helpful, especially Patricia.
