Reviews for Hotel San Giovanni Resort
Review 1:Bar at the hotel didn't have gin and was too brightly lit to be in any way cosy for a drink before dinner. Parking was tight and saw one other customer knock bits off his Range Rover trying to get out of it.
Review 2:Simple, elegant rooms, good, modern bathroom w jacuzzi. Great views. Reception staff were all cheerful. Tried the restaurant downstairs which offered decent food at a fair price.
Review 3:Narrow roads to the castle are challenging but doable.
Review 4:Excellent place, atmosphere and facilities in an ancient castle marvellous. Unbelievable place in good sense. Really worth of visit of couple of days. Much more than expected.
Review 5:Because the area is so quiet and the building has big vaulted ceilings, the noise of guests and staff in the corridors echoes around in themornings. You need a town car pass to drive to the hotel - this pass wasemailed to us a few hours before we came, but luckily we found somewhereto print it out. It would be good if Booking.com had sent this outimmediately with the confirmation.
Review 6:This hotel is in a lovely old building in the centre of the historicpart of town. The area is extremely quiet. Our room was great, withaccess to a balcony overlooking the central courtyard and 2 old belltowers. Breakfast was excellent - a good healthy selection.
Review 7:Wouldn't change a thing! :)
Review 8:I absolutely loved this hotel and the fact that they had done such a loving restoration of a historic old building. The location was perfect, on a hill overlooking the city, the staff were super welcoming and friendly, the rooms were spotless and stylish, and I really enjoyed the town, which I had never visited before. Cannot wait to return to Saluzzo, and especially to San Giovanni. A wonderful stay!
Review 9:the first drive to the hotel!
Review 10:such a friendly staff especially Simone. Nothing was too much trouble. The 'hotel' experience was incredible, and something that we will always remember.
Review 11:No air conditioning. Very problematic in summer nights. The service was ok but not up to the standard you would expect in such a place.
Review 12:The charm of this hotel located in a beautiful monastery and a very nice village
Review 13:This 15th century convent has amazing views of Saluzzo, a hidden gem in Piedmont. The staff is incredible, the rooms are impeccable; an interesting mix of modern and antique. It is attached to a beautiful church, which you can enter directly from the courtyard. The hotel is in the center of medieval Saluzzo. Must defintely experience the restaurant as well.
Review 14:Our particular bedroom could be improved by a lighter, more cheerful colour scheme, instead of grey which makes the room depressing during rainy weather. A chest or some shelves for clothes would have been nice. A surprising amount of noise from next door bathrooms.
Review 15:Perfect location for exploring beautiful Saluzzo. Car park directly outside. Hotel provided very good directions. Extremely welcoming and helpful staff.
Review 16:Nothing. Interesting driving through narrow winding old streets to arrive, but worth it.
Review 17:Magnificent setting, with tasteful and charming decor and restorations throughout. The medieval village architecture and local museum just a few meters away (Casa Cavassa) had unexpected beauty and art works. Do not miss nearby Castello della Manta if you like medieval/gothic art. Staff all very courteous. Good breakfast.
Review 18:The heater/aircon did not seem terribly effective. Mosquito mesh in the windows would be a great plus.
Review 19:The hotel manages to integrate its monastic heritage with dignity and e.g. offers modern bathroom facilities that fit in style and composition to the ancient ambience. Good breakfast.
Review 20:Staff are wonderful. Hotel is restored church monastery wonderfully managed by community and private investors attached to a beautiful 14th century church, also in the process of restoration. Community is friendly and quaint. Wonderful two day stopover on the way to Sanremo...
Review 21:Battleship grey bedroom rather cold... Needed warmer more cosy bedding and reliable heating plus a few brighter colours to relieve the grey.
Review 22:Lovely old building beautifully restored.
Review 23:Level of comfort is not adequate for 4 star hotel. Superior room was small and cold. One chair for two people, no ventilation in the bathroom. Noise from other rooms. Unpleasant drive though narrow streets in and out.
Review 24:Exotic setup. Good breakfast.
Review 25:Cannot fault a thing!
Review 26:Overall excellent service. Saluzzo is a beautiful medieval alpine town and the location of the hotel along with the decor is idyllic and romantic, therefore perfect for couples. No need to venture out for dinner as the food in the restaurant is of an extremely high quality and reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and under special requests for my partners birthday the manager did everything he could to make our stay a remarkable one. Such a memorable experience in a beautiful location would recommend highly to anyone!
Review 27:We absolutely loved our stay at Hotel San Giovanni. The drive up the tiny streets, the view from the top, the hotel's friendly and professional staff, the modern guestroom amenities in the stunning old world cloister, the village, the local food and wine... we hope so much to return one day!
Review 28:nothing
Review 29:service was excellent!!!!!!, at all time and in every way, the first night the Manager gave us a ride to a fine restaurant , as his was closed Monday, he made sure we had a cab back, he called and we met the restaurant owner and staff, super fine, in house restaurant was excellent and prices fine!!
Review 30:Nothing - Everything, was fantastic!
Review 31:Amazing location and even more incredible building (in an old convent!!!!). We were celebrating my 30th birthday and the owner/manager decided to upgrade us to a better room and welcomed us with Champagne and went the extra mile to make sure we had an unforgettable experience! We will come back for sure! Grazie mille again!!!! And if we ever get married, we will consider for sure getting married in the delightful little church next to the hotel! (with exclusive access for hotel guests)
Review 32:The access is exceedingly difficult to understand. Seek advice prior to attempting to park. The restaurant is closed on a Monday, but the failed to advise us.
Review 33:Superb renovation of a very old building, retaining key features. It has some private parking. Very well designed basement restaurant.
Review 34:The staff could not be better - so kind & helpful. Good breakfast, excellent evening meals in a splendidly modernised cellar. Ample parking, superb views. We loved it.
Review 35:Nothing at all. Rien du tout.
Review 36:Everything was wonderful. We loved it. The ambiance in this old monastery is simply charming. Plus, the owner, Massimo, was very nice and helpful. He gave us great suggestions of what to do in the area. Tout était parfait. Nous avons adoré. L'ambiance dans cet ancien monastère est tout simplement charmante. De plus, le propriétaire, Massimo, nous a donné d'excellentes suggestions d'activités à faire dans la région.
Review 37:- breakfast weak - tricky journey to the hotel through the historic centre
Review 38:- central location - quite good journey description to the hotel - nice village - parking easy at the hotel
Review 39:Nothing!
Review 40:Design, style, delightful manager and staff and class- what a treat! Exceeded all our expectations - the photos simply to not do this hotel in a converted cloister justice. It is one of those special finds that makes life and travel worthwhile. Do yourself a favour and step of the usual tourist trail and spend a night or two in the wonderful hotel and charming town!
Review 41:Really Charming place .
Review 42:It's a bit difficult to find.

Review 58:The hotel has a perfect combination of a modern feel and historical atmosphere. Excellent service, friendly staff. Great location.
Review 59:Treatment by the staff not at the highest standards
Review 60:Everything
Review 61:Nothing
Review 62:Everything. This hotel is just beautiful and the staff and facilities excellent. Just a perfect place to stay
Review 63:It is not that I did not like it but you have to walk u p and down all the time and that may not be for everybody.
Review 64:It is an unique place to stay. The convent is restored to perfection and you feel truly set back in time.
Review 65:The hotel is in the medieval part of the town, which is pretty, but high above the center and a serious walk! (But this might not bother many people.) Unfortunately the restaurant was not open because of the quiet time of the year.
Review 66:Excellent, elegant and comfortable facilities. Very nice breakfast and courteous treatment by the staff. WiFi worked perfectly, which is not guaranteed by any means in hotels and was much appreciated.
Review 67:Saluzzo is a divine place where time seems to have stood still. There are so many art and architecture treasures in the town, including the Hotel, which is a former convent/monastery where the rooms were the monks'/nuns' cells and you can visit the former refectory which is now a conference centre and the capitolary room next door with fifteenth century frescoes. An atmosphere of serenity pervades the cloister. Next door is the church of San Giovanni and a few steps away a wonderful Renaissance house turned into a museum. In the lower town there are innumerable bars, cake shops and speciality food shops as well as restaurants. Saturday morning there is a huge market. The old Italy - dreamy. Visit the La Manta Castle nearby (5 kms) to admire the fantastic fifteenth century frescoes.
Review 68:Really nothing?
Review 69:Beautifully restored monastery, very authentic. Excellent rooms with great bathrooms and they have a wonderful restaurant with local specialties and wines
Review 70:Nothing to dislike
Review 71:A unique experience, I recommend, although as other reviews will say not easy to find as in the old part of town. Hotel owner come chef was very hospitable and a great chef food was first class
Review 72:Excellent historical location and environment!!! Very nice comfortable room with large bathroom and jacuzzi. Unforgettable view from the private terrace on all towers and monastery courtyard. We also really liked the restaurant - excellent service and renovated space. We had 3 dinners there and all were very delicious, interesting combinations with nice wines.

Review 74:Lovely family place. The owner also cooks for you amazing Italian food in the restaurant downstairs. We loved this little place and would definitely stay again. The feel is like you are staying in a castle with a lift.
