Reviews for Casa da Moura
Review 1:Toilet seat didn't fit properly. Had the feeling that the apartment wasn't very clean but was OK.
Review 2:Had one meal in room every day because of the kitchen. Shower was great. Complementary fruit, water, and wine. Good breakfast.
Review 3:The fact that I couldn't pay with my card for the stay (apparently the card machine was broken) made my trip a bit difficult, since I wasn't informed about that in advance so kinda used all my spare cash on this. Quite thin walls I'd say. Or maybe just at certain rooms.. because once in bedroom could definitely hear people staying upstairs using their bathroom, haha. And because of these thin walls, not sure if booking during summer season, when there's more people staying, would be that nice experience.
Review 4:I just absolutely looooved this place! No matter how many minuses I'd say, I would still remember the room and hotel itself with a smiling heart. We were staying at the ground floor, next to pool area. High ceiling, minimalistic interior and colourful decorations, sun coming through windows; spacious closets, proper old school room key, which you can turn more than once without the need to lift the handle; loved even the sinks, colourful tiles in bathroom and many other nice things which made the stay something way more emotional than just a place to sleep. Staying not during the season I believe helped as well. Location is good, though had a bit of looking for it to do. Good breakfast and really nice location (on the roof) to have them. Friendly staff too. Definitely would recommend for people who appreciate simplicity and uniqueness, knowing this is not a hotel where every single room is like boring catalogue filled with the same grey/white equipment. Less is more.
Review 5:Amazing looking mauritanian style house with arched passages, two terraces, dimmed oriental lanterns and elegant tapestries. Large rooms, good facilities, stable Wi-Fi, reasonable pricing. Wow!
Review 6:The staff were incredibly friendly and the buffet breakfast on the rooftop patio was outstanding - fresh fruit, warm bread/buns, fresh OJ, pastries, cereals, eggs made to order, and hot, delicious coffee with steamed milk.
Review 7:Definitely in the top 5% of hotels we've stayed in over the course of 25 years. Huge room, every amenity, breakfast with extras, helpful staff....see it to believe it...I am not a paid informant, but I felt this way.
Review 8:Tricky to find first time from map, once there very easy to find after that.
Review 9:Fantastic place to stay - unique Moroccan styled interior Spotlessly clean Massive breakfast Great Wifi Staff very friendly and helpful
Review 10:The bathroom in our room did not seem too clean and the toiletries provided were scarce (no hand soap). Some of the amenities listed on the booking were not accurate (bathtub, hair dryer). The reception area was also kept super dark at night and we had to use the flashlight on our phone just to navigate to our room.
Review 11:The breakfast (served on the rooftop) was delicious and they had a great selection of food! The location is nice; the street it is located on is very quiet at night and it is just a short walk to the lively streets of Lagos with bars and restaurants. We loved that they had bottled water available all the time and beach towels & umbrellas for guests to use.
Review 12:The small kitchenette was extremely basic but serviceable.
Review 13:Very old but very nice, rustic, and quaint. Staff was very helpful. Good pool and an outdoor area.
Review 14:Some of the furnishings could do with a little update as they are getting a bit old but it really didn't effect our enjoyment of the place.
Review 15:Amazing breakfasts, perfect little patio area with small pool (ideal for escaping the afternoon heat), very spacious room, with a little balcony and deckchairs. The staff have thought of a lot of extra things which make your life easier - towels for the pool, mats/umbrellas for the beach, book swap and magazines.
Review 16:An excellent family-run hotel/self-catering venue. Beautiful building. We really enjoyed our stay here in Lagos. The staff are helpful, friendly and so hardworking. There were lovely touches like cold bottles of water by the front door for guests. Breakfast was super on the roof terrace. Parking was fine. A top choice.
Review 17:Every thing was great.
Review 18:Our room was on the first floor at the back and opened right on to the terrace and pool. Great place to relax and swim. Breakfast on the roof was great. The hotel had beach umbrellas you could use and had free water bottles by the door and in the room. WiFi was fast. Staff were super friendly. I would say this was the most enjoyable hotel we have ever stayed in. Will stay here again when we go to Lagos. It was also only a 5 or 6 minute walk to the restaurants and bars.
Review 19:Everything! The room was beautiful and spacious. Wine, water, fruit, Pod coffee machine includued in our lovely room. Great breakfast, served with charm. Will go again.
Review 20:Bed was a little "hard" and the typical European style 2 twins pushed together. No a couples bed!! Never understood this logistically.
Review 21:The location was convenient and walkable. The owner made us feel welcome and relaxed.
Review 22:Parking can be difficult during the day in somewhat run-down surrounding streets
Review 23:Pretty silent, yet very friendly staff. Stylishly decorated, nice atmosphere.
Review 24:The apartment needs upkeep. The bathroom is falling apart. The whole thing is too dark. The furnishings felt like a college apartment where the landlord doesn't keep things up. There was a moldy smell.
Review 25:The staff worked hard. Excellent breakfast and cleanliness. The apartment is spacious. Excellent viewfrom the tterrace.
Review 26:Lumpy pillows, muslin sheets, no mattress cover and worn out, low-to-the-floor seating was off-putting.
Review 27:Breakfast on the roof top terrace with made-to-order egg dishes plus fresh fruits, cheeses, meats and breads....pool and terrace were relaxing at the end of the day....staff was more than ready to help
Review 28:Nothing!
Review 29:The staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation was quirky but had everything we needed. The breakfast was amazing. Loved the location, loads of lovely little cafes nearby.
Review 30:Very very cold, heating did not work, thanks to the lasy I could get a little heater so I could stay. It was freezing the breakfast room. This is not acceptable. No bed light in the beroom so impossible to read in bed or switch off the main light
Review 31:original style
Review 32:Nothing
Review 33:Helpful staff, good location. Good selection at breakfast and fantastic view while eating. Well equiped kitchenette, the Dolce Gusto coffee machine in the room was a real bonus
Review 34:Casa Moura looked good but it was closed so the they booked us on an "equivalent hotel - Inn Seventies " . The only thing that was good was the location . The hotel was boarded up with a note on the door that we had to call the staff . The room was cold and warmed up when we arrived. The plastic on the beds. No hot water . Solve crane etc . Thanks booking.com we had the opportunity to change hotels after one night.
Review 35:The hotel is still taking bookings but funnily enough they told us that the facility will be closed till January and gave us accommodation in Inn Seventies, instead.
Review 36:Lighting in hallways so poor, couldn't find key hole. This hotel is really quite authentic in its Moorish design. The more difficult and costly things have been done well but replacing the seat cushions, sofa, sofa cover and ottoman are long overdue. The place is leaning towards looking run-down.
Review 37:Staff Breakfast Cleanliness Location Beds Balconies Decor
Review 38:I loved the decor, staff and amazing breakfast, but I would warn anyone who is at all unsteady on their feet to choose someplace else as the floors are extremely slippery.
Review 39:We asked for the upstairs room with pool view while booking a month ago but did get not very spacious room with the street view on the ground floor.
Review 40:Excellent location within the city wall, free parking just round the corner, romantic old-style interior. Very kind and helpful staff:) Amazing breakfast served by two always-smiling ladies on the roof terrace with wide selection of cheese, fresh fruit, cakes, juce, personally served omelette and exciting view of wonderful Lagos town!
Review 41:- same key used for every room and no safe. - there is a funky smell in spots (bedroom near door) that I was suspicious of (smelled of stale urine). It is an old building and has antiques. I don't mind musty smells and make allowances but this was not good. It was not pervasive though and could be avoided most of the time.
Review 42:+ location + balcony + fridge + breakfast (great food and value) + staff (lovely and very helpful)
Review 43:Wi-Fi has to be sorted out as it was very weak and almost no signal bouncing on and off occasionally. The tele could be upgraded 27 or 32 inch at least as it was a bit too small for rhe size of our room like 19 or 21inch :( too small
Review 44:The room with swimming pool view, the design, the top roof terrace and our breakfasts was also nice especially the cheese selection (they also arranged my favourite tomato juice for our breakfast which was a special touch) as also giving us a lift to the bus station to transfer to Lisbon :) staff were all great big thank you to them :)
Review 45:Beautifully decorated, restored traditional old town house. The breakfast served on the rooftop terrace was amazing. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. If you are looking for something special and not a standard big hotel, this is it.
Review 46:Nothing really.
Review 47:The two ladies here were cheerful and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. The room, although old fashioned, was comfortable and quiet.
Review 48:Not staffed at night Selfish guests in one room making noise late one night (but next night after they'd left was perfectly quiet).
Review 49:Beautiful old house with traditional, Moor-inspired decoration throughout, tiled garden with pool Friendly staff (one lady who did everything with a smile) Delicious breakfast on roof terrace with fresh, crusty rolls, excellent quality fresh fruit salad, choice of juices including freshly squeezed orange, Our spacious apartment ("Agadir") with high ceilings, comfy sofa and beds, fridge Quiet location at edge of old town Parking on street or secure public car park round corner Huge choice restaurants easy walking distance Guide books, paperbacks, beach mats available to borrow Value for money - many features of boutique hotel at moderate price
Review 50:Rooms a bit old and tired but to be expected given the property is in the old town.
Review 51:Good location in the old town Great breakfast on a delightful roof terrace
Review 52:Had a brief problem with wifi but that was due to a storm, problem was resolved quickly
Review 53:Friendly staff, very clean, hotel has a lot of character. Great location, very central but no noise from the street.
Review 54:Only thing that could of been improved on was the weather as was raining and would of loved to of sat out by pool.
Review 55:Everything was wonderful. Amazing rooms, totally spotless and clean. Wifi included which was great. The breakfast was the best we have ever had and the two ladies in charge of the hotel were lovely. We will definitely be back in fact already planning next trip hopefully very soon!
Review 56:The parking on the street was a little limited and tight.
Review 57:Loved the idea of a moorish styled hotel. The room we had was very large with a kitchenette. We were provided with bottled water, coffee and some fruit. The location was excellent to visit restaurants, shops and the beach by foot. The breakfast was very good and fresh.
Review 58:Bathroom should be updated Some of the soft furnishjing were starting to look dirty and shabby and needed replacing/cleaning Flaky wifi
Review 59:Large living space with balcony overlooking the pool Attractive patio and pool area Great views from the balcony and roof terrace Beatifully decorated rooms and public spaces Helpful and friendly staff Good variety of food for breakfast (bread, cheeses, cold meats, fruit, cereals, cake, juice) Quiet residential location (but a steep walk from the town centre)
Review 60:Beds were a bit on the hard side, but fine if you like a very firm bed Pillows could have been better Toiletries would have been nice in the bathroom
Review 61:Beautiful moorish decoration Location - close to the main downtown area, but a couple of streets back so that it's quiet at night. Laid back, bohemian atmosphere Only 8 rooms so felt like a private house Swimming pool Free parking lot right next to the house WiFi was good Staff are very friendly and welcoming
Review 62:My wife and I recently stayed 5 nights at Casa de Moura. It looks rather nondescript from the outside but once inside you feel like you are in your own little private retreat. The accommodation is spacious, clean and cool (it's air conditioned), beds are comfortable and location is perfect - inside the wall - about a 10 minute walk from everything in the town (as well as a 10 minute walk from a supermarket just outside the old town). it's close to everything but just far enough away that the it's quiet at night. There's a small pool and patio in the back and a rooftop terrace for breakfast. Some evenings we'd bring a cup of tea or glass of wine up to the terrace and watch the stars come out. Adrianna manages the place and does a marvellous job. Fresh fruit in the room and a bottle of water when you return at the end of the day are nice touches that make you feel at home. Five stars.
Review 63:Compared to the 10 other locations we have visited with a comparable service/ambiance, the Casa da Moura is twice the price, but still acceptable. This will be at least partially related to the fact Lagos is at the Algarve. For a booked room of 35m2 with balcony and 1 bedroom, the one room we got (hence no separate bedroom) was at least 10-20% smaller, and had no balcony or private patio. Not easy to find free parking.
Review 64:Nice location within the city walls. Very friendly people at the hotel speaking very good French and English. Excellent breakfast with good juice. Freshly prepared eggs for breakfast. Functioning air conditioning and free WIFI. The pool is nicer than what is seen online. Walk of 25 minutes to Praia Dona Ana (beach), other beaches are closer.
Review 65:We walked everywhere. It was tricky to find and there were a lot of hills up and down cobbled streets.
Review 66:The staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The breakfasts were lovely and the view from the terrace was great. The decor was charming. We would go back if visiting again.
Review 67:Not a great bed.
Review 68:Nice big room. Nice staff.
Review 69:Small but very nice hotel in the historical city center, with nice atmosphere and excellent service.
Review 70:The beds are a bit hard for me, but no other complaints
Review 71:Lovely spacious rooms and a superb breakfast
Review 72:For the price, no complaints!
Review 73:Great value for the money, very pleasant staff, good location .
Review 74:Great location centrally in Lagos - all restaurant etc are nearby. Great breakfast - never have eaten so many fruits.
Review 75:Staff didn't speak English, so it was hard to communicate about recommendations etc.
Review 76:Location
Review 77:Parking
Review 78:Breakfasr
Review 79:The Cosy well run intimate feel of the place in s great location .
Review 80:Not at all what we expected, room and facilities very well worn.
Review 81:Good breakfast.
Review 82:Beautiful tranquil setting, in the old town. Boutique style accommodation. Great breakfast included in bargain price.
Review 83:Authentic surroundings
Review 84:T
Review 85:Friendly staff. Good location. Charming hotel. The breakfast is pretty good including coffee which is not always the case in Portuguese hotels.
Review 86:A very nice location within old historic walls and a nice terrace on top. Great breakfast.
Review 87:No microwave in kitchenette. No washingup equipment Difficult to connect to wifi.
Review 88:Mostly everything.
Review 89:Prefer softer mattress
Review 90:Only negative was very hard mattress in our room
Review 91:Moroccan style. Extremely warm and inviting- felt isolated yet very central
Review 92:Building had character. Staff very helpful. Hotel very clean. Breakfast was great
Review 93:Bed Quality, Reception, Room Facing Street
Review 94:Breakfast, Location
Review 95:No parking availabe. Very few parking spaces in the square nearby but if you'll come in the evening it will be full.
Review 96:great breakfast, lovely swimming pool, available umbrellas for beach, free mineral water and apples :)
Review 97:The apartment design, the great breakfast on the rooftop balcony, and great location.
Review 98:Lovely room, great breakfast and friendly staff.
Review 99:Very good space, lots of room, spacious with a Morroccan flavour.
Review 100:Wonderful breakfast on roof terrace. Comfortable rooms. Liked the moorish style.
Review 101:Location, view, breakfest and staff :)
Review 102:The view from our room was just beautiful. Facitities good.
Review 103:Great location inside city wall pool outside our main floor room
Review 104:Small, Friendly Hotel. Great breakfast buffet. Rooms were large and comfortable.
Review 105:I can't say enough good things about this hotel. Great value with many nice touches. Wonderful decor, great location in a quiet section inside the city's walls. We will be back!
Review 106:We booked one particular room to return to this year but a member of staff had over booked the room by mistake. When we arrived the room was occupied even though a recent email from Casa da Moura had confirmed it would be ours! So disappointing and annoying however there was another room available and then we moved to a downstairs room for the main part of our weeks stay The lady in charge was most apologetic but it was NOT her mistake - I do not know whose mistake it was but we did get discount from the absent owner because of the mix up!
Review 107:1.Rooftop terrace 2.Breakfast is full of choice and fresh food. 3.Edriane the cook/housekeeper works so hard and always has a smile and is very calm and helpful, she and her young female colleague are charming. The towels, though old, are always soft & freshly washed every day.
Review 108:When we arrived, there was nobody there. We rang the bell but nobody opened the door. This even though they e-mailed us before to ask when we would be arriving. Eventually we had to wait for about 45 minutes before somebody came to the hotel. We didn't like this at all. They made no offer to correct this (in my book) big mistake. The breakfast is diverse but could be better. It starts at 8:30 I believe, but when you get there at 8:30, they are still putting everything up. If you tell guests it starts at 8:30, it should be ready at 8:30. For example, the apple pie was still frozen entirely. For the price you pay, I would expect the breakfast to be a little bit better.
Review 109:The rooms were nice and the hotel is located in a quiet street. There's easy parking on the square behind the hotel.
Review 110:The bath towels were very old and had big stains on them. New towels can easily revert this small problem. The bedroom in the front can be a bit noisy at times, but that didn't bother us that much. Light sleepers should ask for bedrooms at the back.
Review 111:Casa Moura is very lovely at a decent price. Breakfast was nice and location is good too. The staff was very kind and helpful.
Review 112:They forgot I was arriving, and the hotel door was locked at night. A guest let me in and there was no-one at reception all night. I slept on the bench in reception
Review 113:Excellent location
Review 114:Great location, very friendly staff. My sister and I stayed and had a 1 bedroom apartment. We loved the decor, separate lounge room, coffee plunger and kitchen facilities in the room. Great price too!. Thankyou!
Review 115:The bathroom is a bit small but this is not a big issue.
Review 116:The relaxing atmosphere & lovely decor, the helpful staff and delicious breakfasts they provided on the roof terrace. It is very peaceful and in a good location for beach and town.
Review 117:Furniture, while adequate, wasn't all that comfy.
Review 118:Lovely staff, spacious rooms and fabulous breakfast which included wonderful choice of fresh fruit.
Review 119:We had a lovely apartment within this beautiful town house. A perfect position to explore Lagos. The breakfast was fantastic and our out of season stay was extremely good value.
