Reviews for Champasak Grand Hotel
Review 1:Got bigger expensive rooms but they are on the edge of the hotel so the wifi couldn't be reach inside the room even though it said in room wifi on booking.com Had to sit in the front of the corridor to use the wifi. Asked the employee for help, said they would send a technician to help but no one came to help. They said my room would get a river a view but it was actually at the back of the hotel and got a tiny glimpse of the river.
Review 2:In the city Center and quite clean
Review 3:A fellow Australian abusing the reception staff about not having a king sized bed in a single room!!
Review 4:I walked into the room and as met with a full window view of the Mekong River - most picturesque. The rooms are large and airy and comfortable. Top marks!
Review 5:there is a reasonable gym but no cooling system (fan or aircon) so too hot to actually use for a proper workout
Review 6:great views. very clean. pool is nice and clean although not a great shape for laps. the breakfast is nice.
Review 7:This is nothing like a five star hotel by western standards, too many things broken or missing, sloppy service, more like a three star.
Review 8:Nice swimming pool and good breakfast
Review 9:The quality of many of the individual items on the breakfast buffet could be significantly improved. It was all edible, though. Seems to be pot luck as to whether there are any towels available at the pool. En-suites a bit tired - but all functional.
Review 10:Great view, nice large rooms with good furnishings. Riverside restaurant a pleasant place to spend an evening. One of the rooms (we had two) even had a safe big enough for a laptop.
Review 11:This is not an 4 or 5 star hotel, much more like an 2 or 3 star hotel..room is dirty and many place is broken..bathroom is more bad than 1 ot 2 star hotels in everywhere else. Price is teally too high..we payed 53$ night and this is too much for this place. When arriving in hotel, no staff for take care, need to take care your own luggages..staff could not find our booking and we need to wait long time. Swimming pool is dirty, nobody take care a long long time..gym dont have even they told they have..dont go to the breakfast after 9am, even it should open until 10am, nothing there..
Review 12:Hotel is an asian style old hotel..
Review 13:Sometimes poor WiFi could not access inside the private room. Especially the room 1013. The floor is not tight enough there is sound annoyed me a lot when I walked on the floor inside the room
Review 14:Friendly of the receptionists with big smiling
Review 15:Unfortunately none of the staff spoke English. Mind you they didn't in the tourist info in town either. Then again who are we to expect this when in a foreign country and it certainly made for some very amusing charades performed by us.
Review 16:We were upgraded to a lovely suite equal of any 5 star hotel. Supermarket next door to purchase reasonable drinks.
Review 17:Would have liked an extra pillow or two, but I'm sure if I'd asked they would have accommodated, so not really a negative.
Review 18:The staff were so polite and helpful!! The room was spacious and clean. Spectacular views of the Mekong River especially at sunset :D
Review 19:staff not properly trained, English poor, overall service, especially in restaurants, poor. The hotel had no idea about serving breakfast.
Review 20:position of hotel, above the mekong, smart luxurious interior. Rooms light and very large. Beautiful huge window, with incredible view.
Review 21:It was rated 5 stars but nothing like the 5 star hotel we stayed in earlier. Felt more like 3 star. Also a local man followed us in harassing us for money and staff let him into the building and let him follow us. It was very hard to communicate with staff as they didn't understand much English.
Review 22:The hotel lacked any atmosphere. The pool only opened at 11am which was late & it was 40 degrees so it would have been great to have it open earlier. Wifi didn't work at all, even in the lobby. Bed & pillows were very uncomfortable
Review 23:We had a corner suite with a view of both enormous, beautiful rivers & the bridge. It was enchanting.
Review 24:no one spoke english aside from a lady at reception. i asked to help me with a bus ticket to thakhek and they did not have a clue. they called a tuk tuk driver to take me to the bus station but he ended up stopping a local bus to take me which was hell on earth of a ride! a 7 hiur journey took 13.
Review 25:location
Review 26:Wifi is terrible, just like many other hotels in Laos.
Review 27:The room is spacious, location is great with Mekong river view, the restaurant along the river side is nice and also good view. Breakfast is great with many choice, better most of the hotels in Laos.
Review 28:Clean and confortable It has three restaurants. Asian buffet at midday was cheap and good. Dinner in his outside restaurant close to the river is good and nice at night.
Review 29:I was there on a conference, so expectancies would be different from tourists' ones. But this is a really old style monster of an hotel, with all its shortcomings in terms of quality/functioning of the facilities and service. It is also lacking character and personal feel you in a small place like Pakse. Main thing for me is the price they normally charge to "ordinary" visitors/tourists (published or even Booking.com price - conference price was much lower). It is outrageously high and makes it for me a very poor value for money hotel. For tourism, there much cheaper and adapted options. Wi-Fi was useless in the room - you have to stand by the door to get a signal - and not much better in the meeting rooms.
Review 30:Location, right beside the Mekong, is ideal. If you have a well located room, you have the most magnificent view of the mighty Mekong, including a stunning sunset - same applies to the deck bar/restaurant beside the river. Reception staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 31:Internet is completely poor.
Review 32:This hotel have very friendly staff and they are very helpful. The location is good, near Daoruang Market, Friendship Mart.
Review 33:I notified the reception desk at the day of check in about severe drainage problem in the toillet that caused them to be useless throughout all the first night .the problem was fixed only in the morning after notifing again .it caused me to ask cancelling the booking that was done before in agreement of the management
Review 34:If you have to get up early, use your own mobile; they tend to forget to call. Very little to do outdoors in the evening.
Review 35:The food in the hotel restaurant near the bridge was very good. The hotel was Ok.
Review 36:Nothing, however some sh,of the staff did struggle a little with English, still it's all part of the fun!
Review 37:Good location, quiet, a grand lobby, very helpful staff at reception, the riverside restaurant was great, pool good, excellent breakfast buffet.
Review 38:Not really a 5 stars hotel (as understood in Europe), but nice as well.
Review 39:Several restaurants, one with a nice terrace and another one open continuously (closed at night)
Review 40:I knew in advance, but it would have been helpful if more staff spoke English.
Review 41:#1 - The View! #2 - size of room #3 - food
Review 42:Did not like anything about it , rooms and hall ways were dirty , sheets were worn and frayed .also could not find a manager in duty at night .
Review 43:Staff helping
Review 44:Location
Review 45:Pool was dirty and unusable.
Review 46:Room was comfortable and clean. Very good value for money. Restaurant also very good food and prices.
Review 47:Outside of city
Review 48:Outstanding view - best in city Riverside restaurant - good food & excellent view
Review 49:They add 3% to price if pay by credit card
Review 50:The location and the room
Review 51:extra Charge for CC payment on top of rate guaranteed by booking.com in the FINEPRINT ! wifi not working
Review 52:The gym really needs an air-conditioner - you could collapse in there!!
Review 53:The pool was very nice. The views of the Mekong were amazing.
Review 54:Breakfast nothing special
Review 55:Brilliant views from hotel room, big room, nice pool
Review 56:Probably some English speaking staff needed
Review 57:Nice big clean rooms, good view.
Review 58:we had to wait half an hour - they could'nt find our booking.com reservation
Review 59:INCONSISTANCE WATER TEMPERATURE .
Review 60:GOOD VIEW OF THE KHONG RIVER.
Review 61:Network useless. Worst i have come across in asia. Miles from downtown
Review 62:Excellent value for money
Review 63:Bed to hard in my opinion Slow internet Poor english from some of the staff
Review 64:Lovley Location at the river. Nice and friendly staff Nice pool area Good restaurants
Review 65:The hotel was well away from local eating places, requiring a good 10 minute walk to find anything. Also a half hour walk from tourist bars, cafes and tour companies. The hotel was no help as far as organising tours or buses for us. They sent us over the road to a place that was closed. Pool hours were 8 to 8 which left little time when we were on tours all day.
Review 66:The views from our room were great of the river. The pool and gardens were beautiful. The room was spacious. Breakfast was good with a large variety of Asian and some Western dishes.
Review 67:No hand towel in the room. Only one tooth brush, another is just an empty box...Pool quality of the sheet and blanket, could be improved a lot.
Review 68:Location is good, with Mekong river view for the rooms above 4th floor. Spacious room with good hot water, wifi is available in the room with acceptable speed.
Review 69:Staff did not speak much English, not even at the reception! Breakfast was really awful, like eating at the railway station. Too many people, not enough tables.
Review 70:Nice view from my room to the Mekong river
Review 71:Staff's English skills extremely low. Would propose the hotel to provide them English classes. Even the front desk staff could not understand simple things. Breakfast was an awful hassle. Not enough tables. It was like eating in a bus station during the worst rush hours. Also the staff could not understand anything at the egg station. I asked omelet without meat (ham) and got a ham omelet. Far away from city center.
Review 72:View from room to the Mekong river was wonderful. Location good to do morning excersice in beautiful surroundings (crossing the river)
Review 73:It was near the market but quite far from where all the action was in Pakse, the hotel doesn't have any help organizing tours and such, waited an hour for supper one night in the restaurant inside the hotel, not many other restaurants in the area.
Review 74:Amazing view of the Mekong, clean room and cleaned daily, great restaurant along the river with wonderful entertainment, breakfast had lots of options
Review 75:Staff gets distracted pretty easily: I was waiting for my room to be ready and they forgot to let me know, after some waiting; I was waiting for the transfer to the airport and they forgot to let me know the mini van was there, so I almost lost it. Not the right hotel for a traveler, for they have no information about tours and places to visit.
Review 76:Staff was friendly, room had a great view and the restaurant outside, next to the swimming pool, was quite good and had a relaxing ambience.
Review 77:This is very specific to us, but we were hoping to watch the Formula 1 race. The hotel had several sports channels on cable, but not any that broadcast F1 (in this region it's usually StarSports/ESPN)
Review 78:All staff we encountered were very friendly, approachable and helpful, including getting us a better deal on transport than our first inquiry. We enjoyed our break relaxing at the pool and also the buffet breakfast (which had different dishes to choose from each morning). Wasn't able to describe in the section about Pakse as a destination, but it is the gateway to Si Phan Don (4,000 Islands) which is lovely.
Review 79:For the price we paid i was expecting a kettle with tea and coffee. I felt a little disappointed
Review 80:Some of the staff were very helpful. Dining was great
Review 81:Too far from the city center.
Review 82:Breakfast.and wifi.
Review 83:Bed is hard but normal for Se Asia.
Review 84:Always helpful if you speak a little lao. Coffee was great since it's from the region!
Review 85:City center and good facilities
Review 86:Staff struggle a bit with English
Review 87:Nice rooms, good views. Great restaurant
Review 88:The employees at Lobby Not top clean
Review 89:The swimming pool The breakfast The view
Review 90:Service , Internet connection very well
Review 91:Breakfast restaurant was chaotic. Little western style food so only eggs or toast for breakfast.
Review 92:Good size rooms. Clean rooms.
Review 93:Spacious room with a great view over the Mekong river. Good location near Pakse new market.
Review 94:staff friendly but very slow and far away from center
Review 95:room and the pool
Review 96:Not much choice to pick from the restaurant menu (need more variety )and the price too high.no walking street at night.
Review 97:Nice and comfortable to stay
Review 98:bathroom, simple room, front desk service
Review 99:the view on the Mekong river
Review 100:no coffee making facilities
Review 101:very good hotel for the price
Review 102:First rate hotel with a very helpful staff.
