Reviews for Athena Hotel
Review 1:Breakfast was very stingly with only minimal choice - eggs or noodles - for a hotel that cost USD 55/night! No airport pick-up offered, staff disinterested ...
Review 2:Rooms clean and comfortable, hotel was quiet - I was the only guest most of the time,
Review 3:We stayed here a long time. The car wash next door is obnoxious. Inter-staff communication regarding our long term plans was not good. Also, there was an entourage that entered our room during the first cleaning (5 people - including the pool cleaner!). This was mostly out of curiosity, we concluded, but kind of invasive no?
Review 4:Most of the staff are excellent. They are friendly and adept at both teaching and learning (given we didn't really speak Lao and not many spoke great English). The place is great and it was very refreshing to return to. Close to the main eateries etc.
Review 5:There is nothing to dislike.
Review 6:Everything about this hotel was good to excellent. The rooms are spacious and breakfast/dinner was very nice. Wi-fi worked well and the staff were extremely helpful - we have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
Review 7:The food was variable; breakfast was odd, bread not fresh, little choice; evening meals also odd, some things done well, others not.
Review 8:The generous size of the rooms; the good bathroom; the clean pool; the small size of the hotel.
Review 9:The breakfast isn't great, for £50 a room you have a limited selection. Compared to the rest of SE Asia you would expect a lot for that money. The wifi is absolutely awful. Service by the pool and clearing you dirty cups/glasses/plates etc is non existent. Again for that money you expect better service.
Review 10:The pool is lovely and the staff at the front desk are also lovely. The bed was very comfortable and the room was gorgeous. Very happy with almost everything.
Review 11:I don't understand why hotels in this price class need to charge 3% for credit card payment to the customer, it might be ok for a cheap gueshouse but not for a place like this. Staff was a bit too reserved for my taste and could do more to help customers with transport or tours.
Review 12:The place was fine, clean rooms, very good breakfast
Review 13:The staff were lovely but didn't understand us most of the time. For that price you would at least expect one person to speak English. Breakfast was difficult to negotiate with neither of us understanding the other! Bit steep in price.
Review 14:Amazing pool area, very relaxing and lovely room. Very peaceful even though it's on the main road.
Review 15:Booking.com proposed only a deluxe room on the frontside, much more expensive and not quiet (road traffic). For the second night we choosed a quiet standard room inside with view on the swimming pool, much less expensive. Also through booking.com, no payment in cash possible, the credit card is systematically used for payment with additional hotel fee around 4 or 5 %.
Review 16:Great hotel, swimming pool.
Review 17:Wake up during my nap after a night trip, for useless maintenance, mandatory. I had to leave my room for 15min without any choice... Ultra noisy carwash un the building next the hotel. Location "far" (10-15 min walk) from the city center
Review 18:Swiming pool, breakfast OK.
Review 19:Shower leaked a little bit and tiles outside room VERY slippery when wet. This did not detract from the pleasure of staying here.
Review 20:Best stay in Laos, a welcome relief after some very rustic places. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 21:cleaner cleaning outside patio at I think 6am
Review 22:everything, very clean & very helpful
Review 23:Lovely big room. Great shower and comfy bed. Nice outdoor area next to the pool
Review 24:The staff is very proffesional and friendly. Everything is in very good shape. Beautiful building and rooms. Very nice swimmingpool.
Review 25:Clean hotel with swimming pool and good location. Owner and staff are very friendly and helpful.

Review 37:noise of car wash
Review 38:swimming pool, but not much sun
Review 39:1. Location 2. Check in lounge, hard seats
Review 40:1. Quiet area with nice pool 2. Breakfast 3. Comfy room with balcony
Review 41:Mosquitoes in room (even after spraying). Construction on street (March 2014).
Review 42:Nice rooms, comfortable bed, good breakfast, nice pool, good wi-fi, friendly staff.
Review 43:We booked one night in February, in a standard twin room (303) one day before on booking.com for $70 USD and were very pleased with the room and facilities, especially at the price. The room was on the first floor (not the ground floor next to the pool) and this meant climbing a number of stairs, which wasn't a problem, but could be if you had mobility issues. The room was spacious with opening glass doors onto a balcony that had two nice cane chairs and a small table, a lovely place to sit for a drink, that overlooked the pool.Having a pool was lovely, and provided a focus for the hotel (there are no other views). The shower was very spacious, but did have a small electric water heater, that while providing good hot water, was not enough water if two people wanted showers straight after one another. The room has good tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge, but no safe. I was told that safes will be installed in the rooms in the coming months.Breakfast was a small buffet offering scrambled and fried eggs, bacon, pancakes and crepes, juice, good coffee, toast and cereal, in a sunny pleasant room at the front of the hotel. However, currently there are road works occurring on the road outside the hotel, which made things dusty through and outside the hotel. The location of the hotel is not as central as other hotels and it's a bit further to walk to restaurants like Jasmin or Nazim's for dinner (say another ten minutes). In the dark, the road works also make walking to dinner difficult, although I'm sure if you had found your way in daylight already, it would not be so daunting. Delta coffee is across the road from the hotel and it serves good coffee and both Thai and International dishes, if you don't want to walk the road works at night.Overall, I think I would stay at Athena Hotel again as I saw nowhere I liked more and it was great value for money, despite the dust and road works.
Review 44:Expensive for Lao standards Staff was not that friendly / helpfull. When asking for a city map, the lady gave me on (free map with tons of ads) and tried to charge me 4 dollars for it... I just said I would borrow it and returned it later 'free of charge'. I though I would get a good early night sleep but at 10:45 the bar next door started playing very loud karaoke, with music people singing as well... This lasted until approx 1:45 For this reason I would not stay in this hotel anymore. As said, the price is high, and there are plenty of other hotels in Pakse (maybe not as nice, but still clean 1/3 of the price and with a view on the Mekong river. There is no (free) airport shuttle , no area info, bike rental or anything like that.
Review 45:Very nice hotel setting / decoration. The furniture and finish inside the hotel & room is very nice (some of the best I have seen in Laos, definitely the nicest in Pakse is my conclusion after looking/checking the rooms at at least 8 of the best Pakse hotels. The breakfast in fine, a-la-carte. There is a nice pool, wi-fi, and all kind of services. Rooms are spacious, have a big tv, bath, fridge, etc.
Review 46:The staff are trying but useless. No tour information except the really expensive one they offer. ( I got mine - same thing for about 25% of what they quoted by walking down the road). They were really surprised when I asked for a drink - couldn't really cope with that. It was only 9.00pm. All in all a bit overpriced but then Laos is in my opinion
Review 47:Rooms and pool are nice.
Review 48:We loved our 'standard room' that would have been a 'superior room' anywhere else. It was exceptionally clean with beautiful timber floors and the room had WiFi. The breakfast was excellent with many choices including pancakes, baguettes, fresh juice, fresh fruit, eggs, bacon and a selection of local Lao breakfast dishes which we tried. We had the fried noodles with spicy chicken and vegetables-excellent breakfast. We also enjoyed the pool that was clean and cool where we could relax in the afternoon.
Review 49:Wi-fi very very slow, second day they did not make up the room no drinking water filled up.
Review 50:Nice place, the manager was very helpful
Review 51:Can't fault it.
Review 52:Great rooms. Loved it!
Review 53:as booth doors of the room are outside doors the evening at the room hasn't been as quiet.
Review 54:clean and spacious room
Review 55:rooms pool
