Reviews for Tivoli Lagos

Review 1:I liked the location. Close to the town center and the bus and rail stations. A good base for exploring the west Algarve by public transport. Good fish restaurants nearby.

Review 2:Hotel in need of refurbishment along corridors etc. Bathroom in need of an update as grouting on tiles wasn't very clean looking.

Review 3:Good location. Room was clean and beds were comfortable . Breakfast was very good.

Review 4:BBC Channel wasnt working No kettle in room to make Tea

Review 5:Hotel Bar & Food very good and very good value Breakfast service good Staff very friendly

Review 6:We have stayed here before and knew what we were getting. The Tivoli remains a fine hotel, although the exterior is starting to look a bit weather-beaten. Rooms are comfortable and the breakfast is fine - what more could anyone reasonably expect?

Review 7:Area around hotel not scenic so room views mainly buildings WiFi €15 a day! Room cleaning poor and at 4-5pm every day Bathroom very small Staff not very friendly generally

Review 8:Location handy for everything Public areas are well maintained Lots of variety for breakfast (7.30-10.30)

Review 9:Had sent two e-mails to the hotel asking about tours before our arrival - had no response to the e-mails.

Review 10:very close to the bus terminal and the water front. Convenient to the city square. Very nice hotel, good food, lots of leisure spaces to just hang around in. Great dining across the harbor, easy to get to the beaches and cliffs.

Review 11:Our room was a bit small, but it was very cheap. I though we were just getting a good deal because it was off season but i guess it was one of the worse rooms. Needs a bit of an update e.g old crt tv.

Review 12:The hotel is quite an impressive building and really liked the breakfast room.

Review 13:Room was very dated, the hotel had recently had some plumbing work done and the water running from the taps into the bath was brown! We were told by reception to run the hot water tap for 30 minutes, after that time the water was still a faint brown colour! Following a period of time it was acceptable to use!

Review 14:Pubic areas was very nice, dated but nice. Breakfast was very good.

Review 15:Nothing really, it was a very enjoyable week.

Review 16:Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and efficient without being over bearing. There was plenty to do within the hotel complex even though it was off peak.

Review 17:This hotel is lovely but does need a revamp.

Review 18:Excellent value for money with very clean rooms and friendly staff. You could not ask for more choice for breakfast, all bases covered, fantastic.

Review 19:Free upgrade to a spacious quiet room. Buffet style breakfasts were delicious. Facilities were great. The staff at the front desk were extremely helpful when we needed to scan important papers to forward back home.

Review 20:The exterior of the hotel is decidedly shabby and in real need of painting. It could look amazing if it was the same standard as the interior. Guests were mainly elderly.

Review 21:Been many times. Pool and surroundings great, food good, staff mainly friendly and efficient.

Review 22:The location of the Hotel is close to everything. The shuttle Bus to the beach is a real treat always on time and no waiting around. I had a very enjoyable time.

Review 23:There was no complimentary water, this was charged at 3 euro a bottle We brought the half board deal which gave is an evening meal. Water was not even included in this and was charged, we were also charged for wine, so not as good a deal as appeared We were woke up the first 2 mornings at 9:30am for a member of staff to top up the mini bar, which felt very early until we put the do not disturb on the door

Review 24:Location was central to town, in close distance to the beach, marina, town centre. Staff were friendly and helpful Pool area was good Restaurant facilities adequet Inside of the hotel was generally clean and well kept, but the exterior looked a little bit tired

Review 25:Room very small, terrace door hit bed when opening, bed rock hard, pillows had little padding, had to pay for a safe key(in this day and age) had to pay 3E for a bottle of water, (usually complimentary), free car park full of pot holes (you have to pay to use the underground car park)

Review 26:Location ideal, nice pool area, pleasant bar and dining room

Review 27:the reception staff were very discourteous. the shuttle to the beach was free, great, but then you had to pay for loungers. the loungers by the pool were full before I had even woken up. the breakfast was terrible.

Review 28:the location was convenient and the bus shuttle to the beach.

Review 29:Very Tired now, not a scrap of paint in 8 years, we had a so called suite, it was very poor. Also cleaners didn't turn up until nearly 5pm most days. This place needs money thrown at it. We wont be back.

Review 30:Location

Review 31:tivoli is at best 3.5 star probably because there are parts that really need to be refurbished. Beach club toilets were not very good and needed a good clean.

Review 32:Great location, good size pool, friendly staff. Buffet breakfast with lots of choice but does not change from day to day. Beach club with free bus is great with free sun loungers on the beach. Keep coming back primarily due to location.

Review 33:Meals are just ok. Portion sizes for things like salad Nicoise are tiny. Hotel is quite spread out we booked two rooms and they ended up being a 5 minute walk apart.

Review 34:Excellent location Free beach club is also very good Nice pool in both locations (hotel and beach club) Very friendly helpful staff Wifi is free is you join their loyalty program which takes 5 mins at front desk. Breakfast is very good - lots of choice.

Review 35:Everything was extra e.g. Wi-Fi, key for room safe. Not the hotels fault but why do people still reserve sun beds at 9am and then disappear for 3 hours (not Germans by the way). There was plenty of room if people would just be considerate.

Review 36:Good location - handy to everything but slightly 'off centre' which is good. Easy walking distance. Clean hotel, friendly & efficient staff. Good breakfast. Private car parking. Nice pool and bar.

Review 37:The photos give a false impression. The hotel is in the centre of town and the beach club with the gorgeous picture is 3km away! The first bedroom we had was totally overlooked by the a la carte restaurant, therefore no privacy, second room was great, much quieter and not overlooked.

Review 38:Great breakfast. Second room had a good view of the Lagos and Marina, and sea.

Review 39:False advertising of location, facilities, not helpful staff on arrival. Ok place but certainly not value for money paid. Hotel worn and tired. Room extremely disappointing, extra small balcony, extremely small room, nothing like shown in advert. Pool shown is on other side of town, no where near the actual hotel.

Review 40:Drunken Brits and other European nationals Pool-side too busy and loungers not available thanks to large numbers of Europeans laying out their towels even before breakfast was served

Review 41:Location Pools

Review 42:smelly, tiny and dated room, very small bed, shower curtains - very dissapointing as the hotel was supposed to be a 4 star hotel, breakfast is not varied, gets boring after few days, sea birds make a lot of noise in the morning and it may be an issue for light sleeper

Review 43:very nice and helpful staff, free shuttle bus to the beautiful meia praia beach, a lot of free sunbeds on the beach, a lot of shared space in the hotel, location near the city center and marina

Review 44:in high season when there are insufficient sunbeds & parasols by the pool & at the beach for the number of hotel guests

Review 45:Good location friendly staff and good facilities (except in high season when there are insufficient sunbeds & parasols by the pool & at the beach for the number of hotel guests)

Review 46:Car parking ground was not level full of rubble and stones. There were ants in the room and we are all full of bite marks. We had to pay for the WI-FI and the breakfast was not 4*** standards as they were serving cocktail sausages when it is described as an American style breakfast. The facilities they call a spa leave a lot to be desired and the beach club was nothing more than a chiringuito style bar with sunbeads and a tiny pool.

Review 47:The location was good as very close to the town centre and hotel provided transport to the beach.

Review 48:No bad experience, some smoking areas were inside which wasn't nice, but all of Portugal seems to be the same. Service is also a little laidback, but same as all of Portugal is. The day spa is by appointmentonly, no walk ins.

Review 49:Loved the feel of this hotel. It wasn't perfect, but it was lovely.Great service, huge place you can get lost in the hallways, and theyeven have an underground games room. Its like a maze. The best thingabout this hotel was the traditional restaurant. You must go!! Even ifyou do not stay at the hotel. I loved Portugal and I loved this hotel.

Review 50:The fact that the hotel has resident colony of sea birds on its roofs! They are noisy and they regularly awakened us up between 2.30am and 4.30am, spoiling what should have been a good night's sleep. There seem to be a large number of nests with chicks on the rooftops and this is obviously a matter for pest control. Seagulls also appeared regularly on and around the swimming pool area.

Review 51:The friendliness of staff and their willingness to make us feel comfortable. The quality of Breakfast buffets and the professionalism and of waiting staff.

Review 52:The entire hotel had a tired look about it. The location was inconvenient to the better beaches. The breakfast was dismal. We skipped the free breakfast the second morning and paid for breakfast at a cafe. It was that bad. We had a very disappointing exchange with one of the concierges. We were looking forward to the highly recommended boat tour of the grottoes, but they totally botched the arrangements and then told us the trips were full for the time we had requested. The young concierge blamed us for missing the trip. We asked her why at 3 pm would we have reserved a trip for 11 am that same day? She shrugged and simply told us with a cold attitude that the tour was not possible. This was our last day so we had to miss this tour that we'd been SO looking forward to. She finally offered a perfunctory "sorry" and then turned away. Wow! The worst customer service... Even if she had tried to put a bit of genuine regret, we would've felt a slight bit better. But blaming us for their mistake? Ugh. I would never return and would suggest to try another hotel.

Review 53:Not much here!

Review 54:Everything was poor from the desk people, service ,cleanliness beach far away from hotel ,value for money its a rip off i am afraid the way they marketed as if its 5 stars and on the beaches from the photo they put on internet but in reality bits very very poor

Review 55:Nothing

Review 56:Sorry see previous notes...

Review 57:Photos on website very misleading..i was under the impression hotel was situated near the beach...carpets on corridors need replacing..room furniture very dated and marked..overall wasnt happy with accomodation based on the what views on website...wont be returning or recommending to family and friends..sorry

Review 58:Pool not up to rest of hotel, lack of sunbeds sometimes a problem.

Review 59:Great place to stay, superb breakfast and friendly staff, really enjoyed this hotel. Good beach club with free transport and beds on the beach.

Review 60:Not having tea in the bedroom.

Review 61:My husband and I had a fantastic week at Tivoli hotel. It's close to the beach and it's right next to all the restaurants. The staff was very friendly all the time. Breakfast was excellent. Excellent value for money !

Review 62:The hotel is in dire need of a refit. The two rooms we had (first smelt of stale cigarettes and was old to the point of being unclean) had fixtures fittings and carpets that reflected its age of 48 years. Not what you would expect from the photos or at all from a 4 star hotel. Our second room smelt of damp and had black mould, broken shutters, threadbare carpets and generally felt unclean. We cancelled our stay on checking in.

Review 63:Short walk into the centre of town.

Review 64:Double bed - too small for us! Not enough sun beds - we spotted people returning in late afternoon to early morning saved beds - really unfair…….. Having to pay for the room safe. SHOWER CURTAINS…… pet hate !

Review 65:Friendliness, cleanliness. Excellent food in the outdoor restaurant. Duna beach with the free shuttle bus.

Review 66:Was disappointed to find that the photo of the pool on the website was not the hotel pool. The hotel pool was fine but the photo is misleading and should be changed.

Review 67:Great location and overall very nice hotel.

Review 68:The hotel was described as 4 star on a lot of reviews. They forgot to mention it would have been 4 star in the 80's. The rooms were tired with floral curtains and burgundy tiles in the bathroom. Even the television was an old fashioned portable. There was no free wifi.. They wanted to charge €15 per day. There was even a €3 a day charge for the sage. Breakfast was the most unrelaxing experience with waiters speeding around old people pushing in the queues, people seeming to act as though the buffet wasn't unlimited and it was their last meal.

Review 69:The hotel was clean and they had modernised the bar however everywhere else could now be described as almost retro.

Review 70:The front desk was very slow, took a long time to even get a beach towel. They probably need more desk staff

Review 71:The free beach club was excellent, as was the breakfast. Very close to the main bus depot

Review 72:Internet situation is unclear at first (ask staff) Mattress was so uncomfortable, far too soft, poor quality. Otherwise perfect stay.

Review 73:Free wifi, fast connection Beautiful hotel, some very minor renovation could be done but truly not noticeable unless you're going to be really picky. Great location Excellent value for money Free off road parking Helpful Staff

Review 74:The reception staff could have been more helpful and re-located me to reasonable room other than 108 which was like a hole in the wall with a dysfunctional air conditioning unit.

Review 75:I found the porters and like staff to be friendly and helpful

Review 76:Car park uneven waste ground and too far from reception Reception staff not helpful Pool area dirty and needing refurbishment Exterior of building needs painting

Review 77:Central location great for sightseeing Comfy clean bed Good breakfast

Review 78:Discrepancy between reality and pictures on booking.com Booked double got twin A lot of stairs (almost no lifts) and be aware of loosing way

Review 79:Location and breakfast

Review 80:I didn't really like that we had to pay for WiFi as the rate should have included this at no cost. Some breakfast items could have been a little warmer.

Review 81:Tivoli is in an excellent location in Lagos; near the Marina, beaches, the main promenade, bus station and great restaurants. They also offers a shuttle to their area on Duna Beach with fixed times there and back - I wasn't there long enough to utilize this service, so can't comment on it. If you don't feel like venturing out, the pool and pool deck was excellent with lounges and bar/cafe. Didn't utilize the spa or fitness centre services either, but the area they were located in was clean and well maintained. The staff is exceptional, whether it be the front desk, the pool, lounge, restaurant, etc. Overall a very pleasant stay and would stay here again.

Review 82:Not enough information about the hotel and its facilities given out from the hotel itself. Not enough drawer space in the bedrooms. Some redecoration required both inside and outside the hotel.

Review 83:The location is great. The courtesy bus to the beach, with its deckchairs, canopy and refreshments was a lovely surprise. Nicely decorated lounge and bar areas

Review 84:Nothing! Don't listen to any bad reviews!

Review 85:Everything- the hotel was so pretty with lovely communal areas that were very inviting, the room was very comfortable and clean and the shower and bathroom were great, the pool area was lovely and very relaxing, the staff were very helpful and friendly, breakfast was amazing- we loved this hotel! I don't know why there are some bad reviews for the hotel because it's great- we were in love with this place as soon as we walked through the entrance! The location is perfect too- a stones throw away from the centre of town is all you could ask for.

Review 86:Despite having a superior room the bathroom was in serious need of updating but the bedroom was perfect.

Review 87:The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. It was my husband's birthday and room service delivered a bottle of fizz which was totally unexpected and very much appreciated!

Review 88:We were a little disappointed with the onsite pool as it seemed a little tired and in need of a revamp. We appreciate that they now also have a beautiful pool at the beach but that doesn't suit everyone, so a little something to think about, I wasn't inspired to lie at the pool in the hotel.

Review 89:Super location and very quirky little hotel with much charm. Beautifully appointed lounge and lots of little seating areas tucked away along the many corridors. We had a room on the rope floor with a wrap around balcony which gave us magnificent views of the harbour, but it would have been just perfect with two nice sunbeds. Loved the traditional dining room and breakfast was a calm and enjoyable experience with efficient, unobtrusive staff who just kept the food coming.

Review 90:Reception staff although pleasant, gave the minimum of information in response to queries.

Review 91:Very well situated within comfortable walking distance of restaurants, bars and shops. Quiet location and calm atmosphere within hotel and at large pool area. Breakfast was excellent with lots of nice fruit and plenty of other choices.Stocks constantly replenished.

Review 92:Nothing really!

Review 93:Everything was great! Room with fridge & nice view of fish pond, friendly staff, good pool, food, superb location - absolutely no complaints whatsoever

Review 94:The.staff were not very helpful. This hotel looks pretty good from the pictures, Well Forget It! It is old dated and none of the passageways are kept clean. As for the Beach resort, that is a joke. We took the hotel shuttle got to an old rambling passageway and when we reached it we simply turned around took the shuttle back to the hotel, got in our car and went exploring ourselves. We found some extraordinary coves with cliffs and beautiful beaches, that is what saved our stay.

Review 95:We were a few minutes away from the marina by foot and a lovely walk on the waterway

Review 96:Small balcony, however, this is a feature of the structure of the hotel and would not let it put me off.

Review 97:The location, the room, the food, the staff and the pool area. Marina and old town in walking distance as is the transport system.

Review 98:Wifi turned out to have been free but required sign in and authorisation to debit room bill at daily rate. So couldn't risk using it.

Review 99:Good in parts.Great location and fair value. Incomprehensible wifi policy.

Review 100:I'm sure this was a high end resort in 1982 but it appears as though they haven't done a single update since then. The mattress had to be nearly 30 years old and at times I felt as though I were sleeping on a bag of tools. Having said that, after planning to switch hotels we stayed another two nights because the value and location could not be beat.

Review 101:The location is excellent proximity to everything you'd want to be near in Lagos - the beaches, the historical centre and the train station. Everything was within short walking distance. Staff were very friendly and the accommodations are very clean.

Review 102:Throughout our stay of five days, we had dirty brown water coming from the taps. Very taken aback that the hotel did not at least provide complimentary drinking water.

Review 103:The common áreas of the hotel are quite impressive, with many original features.

Review 104:A bit tired in places. Change in variety offered for breakfast. Spa facilities need improving

Review 105:Long service staff and service. Especially in the bar area and reception Plus location to everything including the beach club

Review 106:Having no free wifi is unusual for hotels these days, and a kettle in the room would have been nice.

Review 107:All as you would wish from the description - even including being given a room with a good view that I had requested in advance! A very nice and extremely well run hotel with superb facilities.

Review 108:Bed in standard double room is small. The hotel building is a maze. The swimming pool from the main picture is the one, where you have to go with shuttle bus, it is not in the hotel.

Review 109:Staff is very helpful and showed us multiple rooms, when we wanted to change. Short walk to the center. Good breakfast.

Review 110:This hotel was wonderful, real old world charm with all the facilities of a modern hotel,5 minutes walk from the bus station,2 minutes from Marina where you can find good food and beer at a cheap price and the centre of town is also within walking distance.good breakfast and free shuttle to their private beach club.

Review 111:Bar prices extortionate Room mini bar price for water extortionate

Review 112:Indoor pool and hot tub Excellent choice for breakfast Outdoor pool Reception area Location Supermarket and bars close by

Review 113:Expensive WiFi in rooms, very slow in lobby

Review 114:Had top floor balcony, staff were helpful and accommodating to every request, there is literally nothing this hotel does not have, but its always nice to head downtown, a5 min walk

Review 115:Bed a little hard but that might just be my old bones

Review 116:I liked practically everything from arriving at reception polite and helpful to arranging the taxi back to the airport. Food good, facilities good loved it.

Review 117:The wifi could be improved. Constantly logging you off. You then have to log in each time. Very frustrating. Last time we stayed we had a very large Modern room . This year we were shocked at being given the smallest room imaginable With poor mattress.

Review 118:Friendly staff. Great facilities. Very clean. Great location.

Review 119:The hotel is clean, the staff friendly and helpful. The room was clean, bathroom spotless and towels and bedding changed regularly. By joining a loyalty club we got free wifi for the whole stay and a newspaper, Monday to Saturday.

Review 120:Small room, huge bulky old TV dominating the dressing table, no tea/coffee making facilities, very low soft bed, only one electric socket. Whole hotel could do with an upgrade as exterior and public areas are looking shabby.

Review 121:Staff helpful and polite

Review 122:The fact that I was asked to sign up for a loyalty card or else pay 15 euro a day for Wifi. I will not use Tivoli hotels again if this remains the policy. Wifi nowadays is a basic facility like hot water, light etc. Very disappointed.

Review 123:Good staff and good location

Review 124:Paied internet

Review 125:We loved the architecture of the hotel and the greenery outside. Very good breakfast, lovely stuff and perfect location. One minus was the paid internet.

Review 126:Beds are a little hard and breakfast could be somewhat better

Review 127:The hotel is great value for money, professionally run by courteous staff and is in a great location.

Review 128:A small point - the wardrobe doors did not close without making a loud knocking noise. This would annoy guests in neighbouring rooms. A little maintenance would correct this.

Review 129:The Tivoli is a very welcoming hotel with spacious and elegant pubic rooms. The dining room is a good example. The bedrooms are comfortable and clean and well equipped.

Review 130:No free wifi, outdoor pool was not heated

Review 131:Room was ok though not spacious, breakfast was good, the Restaurant was indeed very good although rather pricey compared to Restaurants in Lagos and elsewhere in Portugal

Review 132:interesting building with interior gardens and lounges - like a labyrinth - was great to discover our way back from the swimming pool :)) so different than normal boring hotels - loved it

Review 133:The bar prices are extortionate as are the mini bar prices so we didn't use either. No need as there are several bars close by and a supermarket.

Review 134:The buffet breakfast was excellent. The included indoor pool and spa

Review 135:Staff very friendly, rooms are comfortable. Parking on site. The one thing i had a problem with was the internet. It took over 12 hours to upload 7 pictures and I had 150. It was extremely slow.

Review 136:Rooms seriously in need of total refurbishment. Old beds, bedding (matted blanket, no duvets). Old furnishings, chipped paintwork throughout hotel and shabby carpets. Bathroom very 1970's! Old fittings, sink taps leaking, shower hot then cold, hairdryer discoloured through age - never seen anything like it in past 30 years. Did not unpack. Bedside cabinets horrendous. Old wooden patio doors sliding on solid concrete base - terrible noise - did not like to open and shut and disturb other guests. Outside needs painting, looks very shabby, they have only painted at 'eye level' and only seem to upkeep public areas, i.e. bar, lounge. Would not stay again. Lets down the 'Tivoli' chain of hotels - have stayed in another which I could not fault.

Review 137:Location ok, near to centre. Good breakfast.

Review 138:Pool changing rooms/health suite needed some attention and felt a little uncared for. Although it served its purpose and was great to have access to it. They hired electric bikes which were a great way to get around but the company that provided them did not have helmets to lend, which seems surprising.

Review 139:Although it was a big hotel that you could easily get lost in (i did) it was very personable and friendly. Most staff went out of their way to be helpful. Fabulous healthy breakfast. I liked my room which had a bit of character. Very comfortable with a good heating/AC system.

Review 140:The hair dryer in my room was broken…brought to the attention to the staff but nothing was done about it and my hair really needed a hair dryer room 1321 :-( rashers and sausages very fatty..no beans were available for breakfast on our days..

Review 141:I liked the premises and its proximity to the city. Staff friendly.

The Fine Print
