Reviews for Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart

Review 1:Wi-Fi was not stable and we ended up using data roaming. Not a big issue; just annoying.

Review 2:Friendly staff and reception when we arrived. We were also upgraded to a suite; which was a nice touch and the room was well presented.

Review 3:People in the viewing area opposite the lifts could see in our room as the area juts out past our window. The binoculars are a bit disconcerting when you walk over to the window to look at the view and someone turns around and looks at you.

Review 4:Loved the new bar, great place to sit back and relax with a drink and watch the action on the waterfront. Engaging staff made the experience even more pleasurable, with a joke and genuine conversation. Every staff member at the receptions desk acknowledged us every time we walked past. Staff always offered to assist. Great view from our room. Loved the art displayed in the foyer.

Review 5:We would like to have had a walk in shower.

Review 6:The pillow and spacious room. The biscuits in the room. The staff were friendly and helpful. Gave us great breakfast tips.

Review 7:The room view of the harbour was excellent.Staff welcomed us very well and the hotel is lovely to stay in.We will come back another time and stay more nights.

Review 8:No bad experience Would have liked a bath to soak in but will remember to check in room set up next time

Review 9:Hotel location ; ease of parking - & used valet parking - really useful when travelling solo with luggage & time restrictions; view over harbour from room; helpful & friendly staff

Review 10:Everything Our room was magic staff friendly and helpful and great location Would have liked our breakfast included in the price of the room but that's ok

Review 11:It's a bit on the expense side! Could through a few little things in as incentives. Complimentary glass of wine, or parking or just something to make you feel special.

Review 12:Great location, friendly staff. Lovely comfy beds and good bathtubs!

Review 13:When I booked I booked a superior king room with a bath but our room did not have a bath. I also note that there was a lot I dust on furniture and chairs etc

Review 14:King size bed was nice? Good view.

Review 15:I thought there may have been toothbrush & toothpaste supplied seeing as we had paid $406 for the night. Coffee was $4 extra after the $30 full buffet charge. They are minor things but thought they could have been included

Review 16:Location. Bed was very comfortable Great harbour view

Review 17:Everything is clean and comfortable and the staff are happy and very friendly, willing to go out of their way to help. Location is perfect, with Salamanca on the door step.

Review 18:Check in staff were accommodating and extremely helpful. Lots of great information given 're. Hobart! Loved the info book we got with our key :) Room was great for the two of us, very comfortable bed! Beautiful views of the harbour.

Review 19:Watching TV was annoying as you had to scroll through the channels constantly. No free Wifi. A must for the cost of the hotel stay in this day and age.

Review 20:Closeness to the waterfront and nearness to the city. Good facilities and pleasant staff.

Review 21:There were noises coming from the room next to mine. There was indeed a door (shut) that was supposed to connect the two rooms (I guess initially the room was only one, then they split it into two, by shutting the interconnecting door), but the noises were coming from that, so no good. There was a surcharge for payment with credit card. it doesn't make sense for a big hotel like that to apply a surchage on credit card (all of them). Am I supposed to keep hundreds of dollars in my wallet? A way to improve the tourism of the awesome and fantastic island which is Tasmania is also to facilitate foreign tourists in visiting it and making their stay (also payment) much easier. Surcharge for a credit card mah ne a small things but small things do count.

Review 22:Wi-fi was included in the price. Room was clean, tidy and spacious. Bathroom had a bath tub, which is better than shower. Location was good as it is in the center of Hobart and near the main wharf.

Review 23:Not sure what the hotel is using to keep the swimming pool clean, maybe chlorine. The smell and residue is very strong on our skin even after shower in our room. Don't like it.

Review 24:Excellent location. Very clean. Helpful staff.

Review 25:Staff were very friendly and efficient dealing with early checkin, organising keys for people not yet arrived and rooms were upgraded since out last stay....very nice.

Review 26:Room temp was a bit hard to manage with the air con that was there.

Review 27:Staff were all helpful & friendly to everyone.Rooms well serviced fresh & clean. Hotel extremely central to every thing.

Review 28:The room service phone call at twenty past midnight for room service we didn't order wasn't great. Also there was a smell in the corridor of stinky feet/vomit. I think these were anomalies though, and would stay again :)

Review 29:Beds were really comfy and proper King beds (not double mattresses pushed together) Rooms were modern and spacious and beautiful views.

Review 30:The front desk staff were unhelpful and unfriendly at every encounter. We felt unwelcome. The breakfast was really expensive and then they wanted extra to order a cappuccino - not included in the $30 already paid per person. Exorbitant!

Review 31:Beautiful views and spacious rooms. Great location with easy walking distance to town.

Review 32:level 10 is really level 1 so has really bad road noise, rooms are basic, nothing special, the night we stayed they had a function with loud music, we should have been warned.

Review 33:Location, comfortable bed

Review 34:we were disappointed that the pool was unavailable as when we made the booking this had influenced our decision

Review 35:location ,friendliness of staff we throughly enjoyed our stay .Plus the late checkout time'

Review 36:Wi-Fi only 24 hours of 4 day stay.

Review 37:Location, location, location. Awesome positive attitude from all staff, from housekeeping to front desk and porters. Very comfortable room and amenities.

Review 38:The bed is extremely hard like sleeping on a rock, you may need to put mattress toppers on them to improve the comfort.

Review 39:The service was great and the food was lovely

Review 40:The hotel it's self is in a prime position with easy parking, the check in and out was excellent. The guy on reception was helpful with maps and recommendations especially the pub/ retuarant acrosz the road the drunken admiral. Defiantly recomend

Review 41:The location was excellent for us to get around the city without having to drive. Onsite car park with extended stay was terrific. Room was great, clean and very comfortable. Meal at Tasman restaurant was superb and FOH staff were excellent, couldn't ask for more.

Review 42:Disappointed after paying $30.00 for a buffet breakfast per person to be charged for a Flat White coffee.

Review 43:Enjoyed the ability to walk to a number of restaurants close by.

Review 44:- It was not as modern and as clean as I was expect it to be - I had feeling that the hotel is not being maintained properly, you could see there are places not cleaned for a while - the furniture was old and was not following any design

Review 45:The location and view was magnificent

Review 46:We found the bed too small (double), no hairdryer, too squishy for 3 people and too expensive compared to the apartments available behind your hotel (the Woolstore) our windows rattled all night.

Review 47:Location, views and friendly staff

Review 48:The walls are paper thin and the next unit was having a party, which made sleeping difficult. The windows were dirty which took away from the view. I was also disappointed I had to pay for parking, given the price of the rental.

Review 49:The hotel is in a good location. Great harbour views and close to a lot of great food and attractions.

Review 50:No lift to carpark.

Review 51:Lovely, quiet room with harbour view. Staff were excellent. Easy to find as in excellent location. Short stroll to Salamanca area. We would love to come back.

Review 52:We didn't think the breakfast in the attached restaurant was really worth the $30 per head. The TV in the room was also pretty basic, very few channels and the sound was cutting in and out.

Review 53:The place was very clean and the staff were excellent. We found everyone to be very helpful and we couldn't fault the service.

Review 54:Traffic noise

Review 55:We loved our stay and if we can get the same thing for the same price we will be back the last time we enquired it was out if our price range and we stayed ekse where but we loved it you really know how to do it thank you

Review 56:the room smells a bit funny and there are fly s in the room idk where they come from

Review 57:there are tea pots in the seaview room which is something i didnt expected very good the seaport view also amazing

Review 58:I have been there twice and the food is.average they need a new chef. Don't order the chowder.

Review 59:Staff and the facilities as well as the location are wonderful

Review 60:The staff were amazing and the porters were so friendly and very professional and were very down to earth. The cleaning staff were very nice and the front desk staff were just so helpful! Nothing was too much trouble.

Review 61:Only issue was we had an a joining room and there was a lot of dust & cobwebs between the doors when we opened them.

Review 62:Great location, very good service, good quality rooms and facilities.

Review 63:Our stay was perfect. The staff were unbelievably friendly and accommodating, the room had an amazing view of the harbour and the hotel is in a great location. Couldn't recommend more strongly!

Review 64:Although well reviewed generally, we were not very impressed by the restaurant. Perhaps it over-presents itself as a fine dining experience?

Review 65:The Grand Chancellor is on the waterfront and half the rooms have a great view of the harbour. It was a comfortable and efficient large hotel. The staff were helpful and friendly.

Review 66:You can hear the noise of vehicles outside at night but did not really bother us.

Review 67:Close proximity to mostly everything! Across the hotel is the wharf, walking distance to the info centre, Salamanca market, restaurants. Staff were very friendly.

Review 68:The pool was way over chlorinated so not great to swim in and as there was no double glazing, the traffic noise and building works noise was pretty bad too.

Review 69:Staff were fantastic. Very comfortable bed!

Review 70:Restaurant wasn't up to it. Couldn't cope with the number of guests and had a limited menu with very little choice, especially for vegetarians for dinner. It turned people away when not even half the tables were occupied and closed so early. Rooms lacked art or ambience.

Review 71:Quiet room 2 double beds Interesting View Parking provided Pool, sauna and gym were handy.

Review 72:We couldn't open any windows in our room which made it feel quite stuffy.

Review 73:Great hotel right on the harbour. The bed was super comfortable and the room was lovely.

Review 74:From the front reception greeting and going out of their way to ensure we were all ok to extending our check out time it was a fantastic experience staing at this hotel.

Review 75:Taffic noise isn't the best. The car park is behind the hotel meaning having to drive around two blocks to access it. No lift from the car park and very few parking spaces

Review 76:The water front view is awesome

Review 77:Parking area is pretty cramped and drop off parking is also crowded and difficult to exit from safely

Review 78:Spacious room and clean comfortable amenities and location is perfect. Views from bar area and mezzanine lovely

Review 79:The staff were courteous and helpful. The wind was gale-force the first night which created a disturbing whistle in the room. We mentioned it to reception and they moved us to a better room

Review 80:Loved the proximity to Salamanca markets, restaurants, etc. Was impressed with the facilities in the room - especially a decent hairdryer. The best I have ever found in a hotel - I usually travel with my own but used the hotels as it was so good. Loved the fact that they had the football final on the big screen in the foyer for us Queenslanders. We had a large people mover and they also looked after parking that for us and having it ready for us when we were ready to go.

Review 81:curtains could fit better light came through

Review 82:the view the quiet the spacious room with a view you could open the windows. The aircon was manualnot on all the time.

Review 83:Having to leave.

Review 84:From the moment we arrived at Hotel Grand Chancellor, we discovered how everyone and everything associated with this establishment was first class. Management and staff demonstrated the most exceptional level of assistance, friendliness and service and nothing was too much trouble. I will recommend this hotel to everyone I know. Can't wait to come back, HGC. Thank you so much.

Review 85:We had a pasta Meal from the restaurant for dinner and it appears that the same heavily based tomato sauce (not very nice) was used for several other dishes. The tomato sauce had too much tomato paste in it to the point we could not eat it.

Review 86:Thank the staff for setting up a TV for us to watch the NRL Grand Final

Review 87:Unfortunately our room had no outlook, other than a gravelled roof and the roofs of nearby buildings. I thought I had booked a special place for our last night in Hobart, but the room was disappointing compared with other excellent places we stayed, in Hobart and around Tasmania, at far less cost.

Review 88:The very pleasant, helpful staff. The cleanliness of the room. The quality of the bed and other furnishings.

Review 89:The tv remotes were faulty we were unable to select channels. On the night we ordered room service we waited more than an hour only to be told after inquiring that our order had been lost. When our meal arrived the waiter had forgotten my wine. On the plus side we were not charged for the meals.

Review 90:The rooms were very comfortable. The staff were very professional. The hotel location is excellent.

Review 91:The rooms are looking very tired and nothing has changed since I stayed over 5 years ago. My bathroom left a lot to be desired, with black mold in the grout inside my shower. I also thought the in room dining was quite over priced given the quality.

Review 92:Staff were extremely friendly at check in and also went out of their way to help with baggage, storing items for me for an event across the road and also going out of their way with information for our stay. We had a great night-cap in the bar with the extremeley knowledgeable and friendly bar tender James as well.

Review 93:N/A

Review 94:The room was fantastic and the view mesmerising. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or of more assistance. This was one of the best hotel experiences I've had, anywhere. This hotel is a great asset for Hobart

Review 95:Missed out on a triple day tour!

Review 96:We celebrated our wedding anniversary and my birthday and we were upgraded to a superior harbour view room with a complimentary bottle of sparkling! Friendly staff, great service and facilities!

Review 97:I was having spinal surgery the following day so my stay was very comfortable and helped me relax. I have found it hard to sleep due to pain over the last 3 years but the bed and surroundings helped me rest and relax very well.

Review 98:Room service breakfast poor, only warm and eggs overcooked. No parking downstairs due to functions

Review 99:Service good, facilities good, location good, received free upgrade

Review 100:Booked a twin room and received a king bed, but didn't mind too much.

Review 101:Very friendly staff and room was very comfortable. Tasman room provided great food, location to everything was good.

Review 102:Great location able to walk everywhere, beautiful views of the harbour from the lobby and our room. Our room was modern and comfortable, we also enjoyed using the pool and sauna. The hotel restaurant The Tasman was devine, the food was delicious and the service was fantastic. I would highly recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Review 103:The bathroom is too small. The soap holder is very sharp and at a wrong place . Your elbows could get easily hurt . The towel holder is far off from the bath tub.

Review 104:Location and amenities

Review 105:Neither booking.com nor the hotel wanted to do anything about our paying a huge premium over and above the average rate. New bathroom taps, soap holder in shower had sharp edges. Staff failed to sort out loud knocking on our door late at night by an unidentified person. Happened twice, and I was told the hotel had no security.

Review 106:Comfy sofa and chairs. Closeness to Hobart. View. Minor upgrade. Spacious room.

Review 107:Worn out pillow top on the mattress = not the best nights sleep. This was our fist night sleeping in a bed as opposed to a fortnight on the floor whilst fixing up a house!

Review 108:Upgraded to a fab corner room with a wonderful view. V well appointed room ans perfect location - walking distance to all our favourite haunts in Hobart. Onsite parking at v reasonable rates

Review 109:We had a room on the 1st floor and found that the noise from bar travelled upstairs.

Review 110:The location was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 111:Mattress (apparently a new one) was as hard as!! Thought about spending 2 nights on chairs down in bar area as they were more comfortable! My friend who stayed in adjoining room tried sleeping on pillows on the floor!!

Review 112:Location

Review 113:Was not impressed that when we first arrived to check in because we didn't have a credit card we had to put a $200 cash holding deposit incase we had something from the mini bar and then on check out when the mini bar was checked there apparently was a beverage missing and we were accused of taking it but my partner took his own drinks and also brought some home so why would we drink one from the mini bar at such a huge cost as well. There has to be a better system for customer who don't have credit cards. Also the pool was freezing so was very disappointing.

Review 114:Noisy road at the back, the windows aren't double glazed. We were given an ajoining room so was noisy hearing the people next door talking.

Review 115:Location, views, bar

Review 116:Nothing. One of the best experiences I have ever had.

Review 117:Tremendous staff, ideal location, close to all local sights, ferry, restaurants, pubs. Speaking to staff many commented that they looked forward to coming to work. It showed. An ideal hotel for business or leisure in Hobart. I hope this review does not push up the price for my next stay.

Review 118:Room service meal but, in fairness, it was replaced expeditiously. There was also a major stuff-up with our account. This too has been rectified but our credit card will remain in deficit for another 7-10 days.

Review 119:Location + staff

Review 120:We traveled with our grandson, so booked and received an upgrade to an end room, facing the water and the mountain, pool was a great advantage to let the young ones burn of the last bit of stream at the end of the day, had room service meals a couple of times , excellent service received, staff couldn't do enough for you, always willing to come to you aid. used the valet parking service, good value for money, ate at the restaurant, and enjoyed food drinks and other attractions that are all on your door step. we have done 5 trips overseas this year, and this place is equal to best. Thanks for a great stay team.

Review 121:after hours staff in the lounge didn't bother to clean the table I was being served. empty wine glasses and a dirty table---very disappointing!!!!

Review 122:the view

Review 123:When I made the booking I placed a request, unfortunately the Grand Chancellor staff did not read the Booking.com form . The result of this soured our experience with this property .

Review 124:The. Property is in a great position with fantastic views of the Derwent

Review 125:Over priced breakfast with not much variety in foods. Cleanliness of room was average- bed sheets had stains on them which were able to be removed with a damped towel.

Review 126:Facilities were great, location was prime and friendly staff

Review 127:Excellent location with fabulous views. Close to wharf area, Salamanca Market, small hotels, restaurants and city shops. Very comfortable, clean rooms and great bathrooms. Welcoming, helpful staff and a lovely ground floor bar and coffee area.

Review 128:The Atrium - was very cold sitting there, and the menu for light dishes was un-inviting...and very difficult to cater for garlic allergy. We didn't enjoy sitting in the cold vinyl chairs, in the open area that wasn't heated properly - finished our 'compromise meal' and headed for our room to warm up.

Review 129:The friendly helpful staff at reception and at breakfast each day; the view from our room across the harbour was beautiful to wake up to, and beautiful to look at in the evening, the nice clean/modern room, continental breakfast offered a fabulous range of interesting and healthy foods - just my type of breakfast to be able to add all the nuts, seeds and yoghurt to raw oats. Evening dinner also fabulous, and very accommodating in catering for food allergies. We had a celebration dinner in Tasman restaurant for my Daughter's graduation from UTAS - the meal was lovely and staff were very attentive.

Review 130:All good. Bathrooms perhaps slightly small.

Review 131:The hotel is always a lovely place to stay. Clean, great views (front and rear); large comfortable rooms.

Review 132:The room was tired re decoration. No bathrobes. Very poor lighting so difficult to read whilst in armchairs. The room was just not up to the standard we expected.
