Reviews for Picton Yacht Club Hotel

Review 1:Very slow check-in. Big crack in the handbasin. Very small TV (but it worked well, with lots of channels and OK for the size of the room).

Review 2:Bought a standard room but asked for a nice view when booking and got it, I think that we got one of the nicest rooms in the hotel - thanks staff for doing that! Beautiful view from the balcony. Great location right next to marina. Nice clean room (except for crack in handbasin).

Review 3:We did not have access to all SKY programmes for the first 3-4 days. Whilst we raised it with front-desk personnel we did not get any action other than to be advised that the was solely with our room. Fortunately when one of the managers became aware of the issue she arranged for us to shift rooms and compensated byway of breakfast.

Review 4:Overall we enjoyed our stay and will likely come back again over the Christmas holiday period 2016-17.

Review 5:As a frequent traveller, this was really poor value for money, an extremely small airless room, with uncomfortable mattress. Very disappointed A fan for cooling, not adequate.

Review 6:Swimming pool and location

Review 7:Take card details for incidentals (?) although we were only sleeping over. The charge came my through my account once in the room. Staff explained this wasn't so - the charge still not reversed! No other hotel has done this in all our travels here! Attempt at breakfast was a disaster so we got up and left - staff more interested in clearing away than serving us. Obviously not returning business

Review 8:Convenient

Review 9:The sadness of things - (we had two visits and different rooms) - stained carpets; surface cracking off the basins; nasty brown water stain in one loo; This old lady needs a complete refurbishment and a lift perhaps on the east side of the building. Try never to stay there on New Year's Eve. Please put Anne next to this review not Flemming!

Review 10:super swimming pool, very convenient place, very clean, parking outside our ground floor room (disabled) so easy for packing the ute. Could walk to the centre of the dear little town with my walker. Enjoyed the aquarium and The Edwin Fox museum. Restaurant nice. If you need a perfect harbour view be sure to ask when you book. Anne

Review 11:This hotel is old and tired. We were given two rooms for 4 people that could have easily slept 8. There was nothing impressive about the place. Old, dirty carpet, chipped sinks in the bathroom, a tiny shower with a curtain that clung during showering, and to top it off, the balcony wraps all the way around the hotel with no separation, so people were walking right by our beds. Avoid if at all possible.

Review 12:Staff very welcoming and a great location. Bed was super comfortable and room was bright and airy. Very helpful staff when I rang about a left behind phone charger...one of many every night I'm sure. Be good to have a full length mirror. We would stay again!

Review 13:The rooms need updating. There were missing tiles in the bathroom and the sink was chipped.

Review 14:The location and the view. The view to the harbour was amazing.

Review 15:The bed and pillows were very uncomfortable. The tv reception and the selection of channels were poor.

Review 16:Excellent location if restaurants and water taxis. Room was spacious and the shower pressure was good.

Review 17:lack of power points in all rooms - those that are there are too far from tables or seating cockroach fell out of fridge when opened terrible sky tv connection aircon unit made quite a lot of noise confusion at check in around where my room actually was located, but i think the staff member was new so not a biggie

Review 18:great location great pool easy access to ferry terminals and town centre

Review 19:We arrived on the Saturday late afternoon/early evening. Having travelled from various parts of the country to discover that we could not dine "in house" due to a prior engagement. The down stairs bar with bar menu was offered but declined. A suggestion only in that the Restaurant Menu could have been offered to in house guests in the downstairs Bar. Certainly not a big issue but worthy of a comment.

Review 20:Location, facilities and customer service was excellent. House keeping staff also very very friendly, courteous and helpful at all times. Fiona was our first point of contact from day 1. She was everything we met on the "phone" and more when we met personally. Carried out her duties in a professional effective and efficient manner. Magic smile!

Review 21:Very slow, rude and incompetent staff. Breakfast service was a disgrace and I would strongly advise anyone staying not to have breakfast there. The pool was dirty and is open to the general pucks so it meant kids screaming in the pool all of the day.

Review 22:The location and the view were amazing!

Review 23:had to drag bags up a flight of stairs they offered to help but not forthcoming. to get to the lifts you would have to drag bags down a flight of stairs doesnt make any sense that you have a lift that wasnt accessible from reception didnt actually see any lift but they allege there was one had to park the car in the car park which was gravel so couldnt drag bags to car had to drive car to reception to pick up bags in the restaurant i had market fish which was overcooked & the potatoes were greasy. menu definitely overpriced i dont think the indian chef can cook western food very well , so they may as well switch to curries & make it an indian restaurant this resort looks beautiful but they need to fix these details

Review 24:room was nice had good nites sleep

Review 25:The room was dirty, holes in the wall, shower had green grout, basin was all chipped, tv didn't have all channels and most weren't even a clear picture. The pool view was non-existent as there was a big tree in the way. This room was nothing like Booking.com advertised.

Review 26:Good location to Ferry Terminal

Review 27:small window view.bed uncomfortable..bed facing in wrong position..small t.v...dirty floor in bathroom...noisy...wind coming in from the stairs thru under the door..and the stair lights coming thru from under door.

Review 28:Room was very basic. Furniture was dated, carpet had stains, bed was not particularly comfortable. This hotel has a lot of potential but owners need to start thinking about room refurbishment.

Review 29:Location, harbour view, lobby. Staff was friendly and helful.

Review 30:Bathroom needs updating. Tiles broken, paint peeling of vanity. Tv didn't work very well and couldn't see it from the bed

Review 31:Sleeping space looked very modern and was very nice

Review 32:All the times I went to the reception counter nobody was present so you have to ring them first. Also, the lift/elevator is all the way at the back so you have to carry all your luggage towards that end and as well as going down a set of stairs unless you come from a different entrance (there was no help offerred to us, though it was manageable by ourselves).

Review 33:Location and the bed was comfortable.

Review 34:Sparse furniture in bedroom Bad tv reception staff sent us up 3 levels via the stairs when checked in we were on the bottom floor For what we paid the room was average Poor parking none assigned to the guests who bought the dearer rooms Old air con unit

Review 35:town nice and close Heated bathroom floor

Review 36:The bathroom although roomy was way past its use-by date - I can't remember the last time I had a shower with a curtain! We had to park our car in a dusty car park - not a good look.

Review 37:The staff were friendly and efficient, the restaurant food was excellent and the view was great. The bed was big and comfortable and there was lots of room for the two of us move around in the suite.

Review 38:Having to unchain the car park entrance (although not a big problem)

Review 39:The hotel was bright & comfortable, the staff friendly and the breakfast good.

Review 40:There is a common balcony that runs across the floor. There was a couple in one of the other rooms that hung around chatting right outside our room (instead of outside their own room) early each morning with a cigarette and beer...it was disturbing and uncomfortable (privacy?). I wish the hotel would install some sort of dividers in the balconies to ensure privacy!

Review 41:Location is great! A quick walk from center and harbour. The food at the restaurant was excellant. The staff are courteous and friendly. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable

Review 42:Very noisy with deck doors open on 3rd floor, from the pool and neighbouring rooms. NO AIRCONDITIONING!!! and at the front desk after telling me she wouldn't be a moment she served two others before me, who arrived after me. Airconditioning was a big issue for us, very hot but the kids couldn't sleep with the deck doors open due to the noise. Other places in Picton have aircon for the same price or less.

Review 43:Close to township and ferry, the pool.

Review 44:The room was dirty, including soap scum on shower, about 1cm of dust on door ledge in bathroom, dead insects behind curtains and in curtain tracks. The washing machine did not work. The TV reception was poor.

Review 45:Friendly, helpful staff.

Review 46:Very small room for the price. No aircon - just a fan. Glad we were only there for one night. Wouldn't stay again

Review 47:Close to town. Walking distance to ferry terminal.

Review 48:No servicing of the room on the second day of a three day stay, was given more towels on day two, so the bathroom looked like a laundry day three. Guests standing outside your door chatting when you are trying to sleep...........

Review 49:The location was perfect, rooms very tired and need a makeover.

Review 50:Place was not like the photos suggested, TV was very fuzzy and could not watch it, no room service and restaurant/bar shut at 9pm so when we arrived in late there was no option for food.

Review 51:Room was clean and newly renovated.

Review 52:Didn't realise I had tea/coffee making and fridge until I had ordered room service coffee in the morning and on leaving my room the staff member discovered them for me:-/

Review 53:The best food I've had for ages - delicious:-) Lovely heated pool.

Review 54:Location excellent, this was a short stop for us after arriving on a late ferry and before continuing our trip down south. Some things were a bit dated but the staff were friendly, bed was big and comfy, towels soft, shower had good pressure and everything was very clean. Great view to wake up to as well :)

Review 55:No bad experience had, everything was perfect in fact;my personal thought was the beds could have been higher, but that may be my preference to others I suppose.

Review 56:Right from the easy booking to the friendly reception / dining room staff and excellent breakfasts (set the days up nicely) coupled with a pool the kept me and my water rat G'daughter in for around 5 hours plus this is a real top spot to stay. If I say much more you will all want to come. We stay 4 to 5 days every 3 to 4 months and have never been disappointed.

Review 57:The staff seemed a bit frazzled and worn out although the check-in was welcoming enough. The hotel is getting a little tatty in some areas.

Review 58:Location - our room looked out over the harbour and was well appointed.

Review 59:Reburbished room sparsely furnished, little introduction of warm and colour. Hand basin had major crack but didn't leak. Receptionist didn't phone back with requested information.

Review 60:The gate to the pool area was weird to open, not just for me but for everyone who I watched come to the pool while I was there. They should have an instruction photo.

Review 61:I liked the view from even the first floor. The pool had good Sun throughout the day and was relaxing with views of the hills in the distance. The room was large and comfortable with mini refrigerator to use.

Review 62:The room was in need of a big refurb! There were chips in walls, paint flaking off, questionable carpet stains, tired tiles, stained toilets and a yellow sink. I think by the look of previous reviews the hotel has great rooms Thay are modern and then some That need work done. Despite the tiredness of the room, it was still relatively cheap and was super quiet.

Review 63:The swimming pool was nice! It was heated for us. The room was also massive!!

Review 64:The washbasin was left with a dirty ring, cups not washed properly, several stains on carpet, no bedside cabinet, light over bed not working, very poor bed making

Review 65:Good pool facilities, clean and comfortable

Review 66:No coffee for after dinner, no ginger beer stocked in the bar for dinner drink, poor condition of shower cubicle...mouldy. Poor lock on patio door with no barrier between rooms on patio are.

Review 67:lovely location

Review 68:There was a musty smell as we walked towards our room. Room not very clean, tv reception not clear. Paid for a room including breakfast but breakfast was not upto standards.

Review 69:We arrived late in the night but as advertised the reception was open.

Review 70:Bathroom/ decor needs updating but it did not detract from our stay

Review 71:Lovely setting, great view, pool was lovely, nice and clean towels etc, friendly staff

Review 72:Some of the bathroom ware was looking a bit tired and worn.

Review 73:Apart from the great location in the centre of Picton, the rooms were spacious, clean, had a nice view and well presented. Everything about the room was pleasant.

Review 74:A missed early call the system failed to work. We both felt that the accommodation could do with an upgrade. We would have like to open the sliding doors for ventilation but felt that security was at stake access was easily gained from the balcony.

Review 75:The excellent view we appreciated an upgrade to room 203

Review 76:The ranch slider didn't lock, and the air leaked in from outside along with second hand cigarette smoke from people in the next room smoking on the balcony, the wind came up early hours of the morning and made a loud whistling sound and flapped the curtains around. Water too cold to get any pressure in the shower, it was a mere trickle.

Review 77:The fantastic view.

Review 78:The bathroom fittings need renewing. The chipped wash basin, discoloured lavatory bowl and the grey grouting really reduce the quality of the accommodation.

Review 79:Convenient location. Comfortable room.

Review 80:No bar facility. Receptionist was reluctantly prepared to fetch a drink to have in the foyer!! Little help to secure a shuttle / taxi. Tried once and the call went to voice mail. Didn't bother to try again.

Review 81:Location, pleasant view. Good accommodation rate the weekend we stayed.

Review 82:no hot water at 9pm for shower, had to wait until 10pm. Apart from electric jug, glasses & cups no plates or anything else. 6 TV channels 2 with a lot of static and the others nothing worth watching. Décor on the tired side.

Review 83:Fantastic view from room

Review 84:The room was very run down, and cleaning was not great. It had a terrible shower.

Review 85:It is convenient to the ferry and the reception is open late. They have a pin entry system if the ferry is running late.

Review 86:The carpark was less accommodating than expected - unsealed and very busy. We were parked in and had to have a car removed.

Review 87:The overall presentation of the hotel and quality of the room was great :-)

Review 88:Nice room, great view (get a room with a view over the pool). Recently renovated, modern facilities. Excellent price, and the room was cleaned well every day.

Review 89:we would have liked a micowave and a toaster as we arent big on eating out all the time.

Review 90:it was lovely and clean and within a very short walk to marina and shops

Review 91:No meals were being served on the night we arrived, despite the fact that we had booked on the basis that the restaurant would be open. No advance warning of this on the booking site.

Review 92:Not a very bad experience but, although outside facilities were within walking distance, it should have been stressed that the bar and restaurant at the hotel would be closed on a Monday!!!

Review 93:Photos are a tad deceiving.. Old interiors- tiles in bathroom missing/chipped; very faded carpet. Acoustics not great- could hear conversations on both sides of the room

Review 94:Lovely helpful staff Convenient location

Review 95:Rooms are due for update and showing lots of wear and tear ( we were made aware of this when booking a standard room so no complaint just a comment) Also the Restaurant was not great on selections and we chose to eat elsewhere

Review 96:Location right on the waterfront

Review 97:We booked a "superior" room with ocean views. The room we were given was tired, poorly maintained and the ocean view could only be seen from the balcony through an opening in the side wall. We complained and were give a standard room with free breakfast. This room was in much better condition but was still due for a refurbishment. At least we could get water views from the room.

Review 98:The location was the best part, a short walk to restaurants, the waterfront and cafes.

Review 99:Wasn't a bad experience but would have dined in if the restaurant was open. However, there were other excellent options available.

Review 100:The front staff are terrific ambassadors. Happy, energetic, helpful and prepared to listen and talk when making idle chatter. Local knowelege and tourist information from around NZ was very helpful.

Review 101:It was quite a dated building, the bathroom especially. It was very difficult to get to the pool from the part of the hotel we were staying in and we weren't told how to get there when we arrived

Review 102:The pool looked nice and the view was lovely

Review 103:My only comment is that the pictures conveyed a vision of apartments overlooking the water and scenery that was MUCH MORE BEAUTIFUL than reality. The biggest disappointment was that reception and the restaurant don't even have a view of anything but an average pool and a car park. Sometimes to doesn't pay to glam up the photoshoot only have guest meet with disappointment.

Review 104:The Picton Yacht Club was a fine place to stay - convenient and easy - and we were only there for one night.

Review 105:Noisey water pipes in ceiling?, bathroom dated (i think are being referbed) Pool area could do with a good clean up, this place could be awsome with a little more work - I was dying to go clean the area with a steam cleaner! I know its the end if winter but its not hard to keep up with some simple maintenance - this would go a whole way to the locals staying over winter recommending it to others.

Review 106:Loved location, beds comfy, rooms good size, friendly very helpful staff.

Review 107:we were checked in by Fiona. she was very helpful with us having to park a large 6 berth campervan on the site. she also went out of her way to provide us with breakfast to have before our early departure to the bluebridge ferry

Review 108:Have to carry lugguges up the staircases (room on 1st/2nd floor), as using lift is even less convenient.

Review 109:Nice, freindly and very helpful staffs. Check-in during mid-night is no problems at all. Just a few minutes drive from ferry terminal, ideal location for taking late night or early morning ferry.

Review 110:The beds in my room sagged. I prefer more support.

Review 111:Three different staff went out of their way to help me on three separate occasions. Good breakfast.

Review 112:Was all fine for us.

Review 113:We loved the view. Picton is just beautiful! We didn't care about no wi-fi. I grabbed some take out pizza from the Irish bar across the road and grabbed a beverage while they cooked and did what I needed to do via wi-fi. We didn't worry about TV much either we had some movies on our tablets for our children if they wanted and enjoyed a pizza and some beverages. Was great!

Review 114:Bathroom very dated, tiles chipped off and grouting very rough, toilet was stained and had cold shower in the morning.

Review 115:Receptionist was very helpful. Great outdoor area around nice swimming pool (although very cold!)

Review 116:no hot water for shower restaurant food over priced and poor quality no wifi reception was full of excuses about these problems, but no resolution. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Review 117:location.

Review 118:The bathroom needed updating and there was an off-putting stain in the toilet. Unfortunately the name of the hotel does not reflect the facilities. The TV did not work properly and very little wifi provided even though it's advertised as free wifi. Not up to the standard we expected.

Review 119:Location was fantastic, and reception were very helpful and friendly.

Review 120:Loved the staff, they were wonderful, loved the view, loved the fact that someone takes a bit of trouble over the eco tea coffee etc and bathroom extras. Felt like home but nicer. Thanks for my brilliant stay.

Review 121:Bathroom was decorated for the 80's and the shower head was too low. Im 5"3 and my head couldn't fit under it lol. Still had a great stay!

Review 122:Although the rooms were a little outdated the room was very clean and beds were very comfortable! We had been travelling in hostels in dorm rooms for a while so was pleasently surprised to have two double beds! Staff were great and location is awesome!

Review 123:the unit needs an upgrade. carpet had marks on it. the hand basin was peeling , woodwork peeling. Shower flooded bathroom floor

Review 124:close to town great staff

Review 125:TV poor reception. Hole in side of hand basin. Fridge bit noisy. Little bit of an upgrade needed.

Review 126:Comfortable bed. Good shower pressure Upgraded to Bay view. Nice breakfast. Friendly staff. We would stay with you again.

Review 127:The hotel was old. The carpet was really dirty. The room did not fulfill our expectations for a 4 star hotel.

Review 128:Location of the hotel, very convenient to use the ferry early in the morning.

Review 129:Nowhere to have a really good quality breakfast.

Review 130:Good spot to stay before heading across to North Island the following morning. Nice view of the harbor. Good walks around town.

Review 131:Did not get the room I requested for on the website. There were no plates or cutlery in the room. The elevator was too far from the room & we had to walk 3 flights of stairs.

Review 132:The view from the room. Access to a swimming pool. The queen/king beds.

Review 133:Extremely warn and in need of a tidy up. Quite disappointed. shower horrible and needed a real good clean. Warn carpet in entry didn't make for good impression.

Review 134:nice walking distance to everything.

Review 135:I could honestly say there wasn't anything that we didn't like.

Review 136:We absolutely loved our stay at Picton Yacht Club Hotel! Upon arrival we were notified that we had been given a free upgrade to a higher floor with water views. All the staff were extremely friendly and we had dinner in their restaurant on the last evening (we wished we had eaten there the previous evening too as the meal was way beyond our expectations...and very reasonably priced too!!)

Review 137:Wish ice were more common in New Zealand. A Manhattan on the rocks without the rocks is a tough adjustment

Review 138:Convenience for 1st night from North Island

Review 139:only negatives are, Got sky tv but it is a bit fuzzy but watchable, (only 5 channels). free wifi when in range, (very weak signal) but when on holiday why spend it in the room.

Review 140:Awesome clean hotel. 3min walk to town. nice view while having breakfast on the balcony. really friendly and helpful staff. we stayed in a refurbished room on the ground floor very nice clean and lovely sitting out on the deck close to the pool and heaps of outdoor space.
