Reviews for Generator Hostel London

Review 1:I had a room right by the night entrance and it's very noisy. Also, the staff at the entrance makes you feel uncomfortable always checking your room key. The bunk beds don't have individual lights nor sockets.

Review 2:Excellent common areas

Review 3:I didn't take a shower comfortable Because there has only 1 bath room And They didn't prepared lock system also ! The hostel was design is good but the other things was awful The last thing I want to do is use this hostel again

Review 4:The design is mordern from the in/outside

Review 5:food is a bit expensive. and should have more power sockets in room

Review 6:staffs are really friendly and the environment is pretty good. great location is bonus as well

Review 7:I didnt like the toilet with a lot of water on the floor when i were taking a shower with another persons. I think you have to put a place at toilet to save our clothes and things that we are using as well.

Review 8:The bathrooms..there weren't any floor mats. After showers the floor was wet!No place to put toiletries.Wished the shower head could be removed ~ easier to shower and also to put on clothes inside the cubicle instead of having water dripping over the head.

Review 9:We were quite skeptical about sharing a room with 8 other strangers. We were lucky to get people from all walks of life who respected each other by minimalising noises in the room. With so many people staying at the hostel, walking in and out,the security was good and noises were restricted.Felt safe throughout.

Review 10:The staff didn't have a lot of knowledge of the hostel offers I.e airport shuttle etc. bathrooms upstairs were grotty and toilets also clogged and showers don't drain. Menu needs more options. Need lights on each bunk especially bottom.

Review 11:Good location close to the tube and easy walking to most parts of central London. Restaurant in hostel. Some staff not very pleasant which is odd for a hostel. Refundable for prepaid nights stayed which was good.

Review 12:Way too expensive for a hostel. They even charged you to store your bags and also you couldn't bring in your own food or drinks. The rooms sucked too if i am paying 20 pounds for a hostel i at least expect to have my own outlet and lamp

Review 13:Decent location in London

Review 14:Everything charges extra, one piece of cookie is for 2 pounds and you have to buy a towel (looks like a used one) for 5 pounds, like this is a hostel and that price? Not so friendly.

Review 15:Nice location with modern design, the bed is clean and comfy especially comparing to most hostels.

Review 16:Not enough power outlets for the whole room

Review 17:Awesome spaces to chill and hang out. Clean toilets! Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Great vibes.

Review 18:I would request more sharing bathroom for each floor :( and please provide some public use kitchen facilities like oven or microwave. Hairdryer renting service please?

Review 19:The Christmas vibe in the whole place, it's a comfort and cozy place to chill.

Review 20:There were no shelves in the bathroom, so it was't very convenient to take a shower.

Review 21:It looked new, fashionable with the vivid color, clean, and there were enough space to chill out either alone or with friends! All the staffs I met were very kind and when I couldn't unlock the door, they sent me two staffs quickly.

Review 22:The quality of foods is not good. I purchased breakfast for three days but ended up eating only once. Too crowded and rather expensive. You can have much better breakfast outside.

Review 23:The location is super. The room is very clean. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Review 24:The toilet and shower area wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but some improvements would be great as some of the toilets door can't be closed properly.

Review 25:Great atmosphere as I spent my Christmas eve there. Location was good too as it was around a 30 mins walk to Soho. Rooms was clean and new.

Review 26:It is depending on the place, But still it has a really small shower room which is almost close to my body. and usually, It is hard to get a hot water.

Review 27:It is really worth to pay, There has many their own convenience like pub, cafe and so on.. also quality of room is good if you consider everything which you can think. Thank you

Review 28:Rooms are TINY. We were completely on top of each other and it was very uncomfortable. Noisy. Showers were not great. About half didn't work properly/at all and the ones that did went hot/cold at will. Wouldn't stay here again.

Review 29:Lots of chill out spaces and bar and eating area. Short walk to Kings Cross or Russell Square Stations.

Review 30:The fact that I had booked a 8-bed room and was assigned a 13-bed room wasn't so nice. For the second night the staff was able to find a bed in a smaller room.

Review 31:The hostel is very nicely located and has a great vibe with a cool bar where people can have a good time.

Review 32:Booked in 8 bedroom and was given 12 for the same price.

Review 33:Excellent environment. Bar, café, very big lounge with TV, wall cinema, music. Very friendly place. Plenty of fun and games. I will absolutely come back to it.

Review 34:Not helpful when asked for cup of tea after no closed .asked for cup for making own tea no can.t get them. Drunk and noisy residents after midnight on Saturday night 12.00 till 2.00 am charges for lockers and towels and late check out too many add ons

Review 35:Good location

Review 36:Shared bathrooms were awful. Unsure if they were under construction or not. On my floor, 2 of the women's stalls didn't lock, and 2 of the toilets didn't flush properly. First shower I went to take, the shower room was flooded and almost spilling out onto the floor. This got only marginally better for the rest of my stay. There was a group staying and when I came for breakfast one morning they had run out of clean mugs and trays, and the coffee ran out. Took maybe 30 minutes to refill all of them by which time I had finished breakfast. This is also a very big place (6 floors). Breakfast and the cafe/bar/food area in general are very crowded. So if you are looking for a quieter place, keep looking.

Review 37:Stayed in a 4 bed dorm which I felt was comfortable and had enough room for everyone; underbed storage drawer was on wheels and easy to move.

Review 38:Very show off hostel. Extremely tiny rooms designed for 4 persons butonly one person can stay on the floor. In the room there's no spacefor personal belongings, no private light, no lockers. The cabinets inthe room are so uncomfortable and extremely noisy. If you travel withelectrical rysor and hair dryer you don't have chance to use itsince there's no any plug in bathrooms. The only public area is thesmall tv room at the ground floor!!! No any public space on the floors.

Review 39:Housekeeping, personal at reception especially Luis, securitycontrol, wifi

Review 40:No plugs near the bed, toilets on the fifth floor did not flush. Food was ridiculous, took an hour to make a sandwich and the prices compared to the food you get are insane.

Review 41:Pretty hostel, good location.

Review 42:Everything spot on :)

Review 43:It's really hard to pick on anything. I knew my stay will be excellent from the very first minute I walked in to the building. Amazing receptionist (lovely girl from NZ - sorry I don't remember your name) made me feel very welcome. Rooms, bathrooms and toilet very clean, amazing common area, with bar/cafe/restaurant, a lot of plugs everwhere which nowadays is essential.Due to some flight issues I had to extend my stay like at 3am - Luis and his collegue made another reservation for me hustle free, gracias chico y que viva España ! Ones again thanks for making my stay so pleasant, thanks for great breakfast - you all guys are doing great job !

Review 44:No kitchen facilities like other Hostels.Slept in a 4 bed room and it was way to small compared to previous ones I have stayed at far to crammed at the Generator. To loud in the cafe if you wanted to relax & food & drinks on the premises to expensive.Lift far to small can only fit 4 persons .Did lots of stair climbing as I was on the 4 floor.

Review 45:The day doorman/security was so nice & always smiling & helpful.Night door security very unfriendly & abrupt.

Review 46:Was awoken at midnight by a very large angry man. The counter staff had promised him a bottom bunk, but had not actually switched his reservation and so had put me in the same bunk. The hostel isn't responsible for the rudeness of their patrons (perhaps for their clerical errors) but it was definitely a rough stay.

Review 47:I didn't like the fact that when I booked on booking.com, the website stated 8-bed dorm. I was given a bed in a 10-bed dorm. When I enquired I was told that booking.com gives information to the hostel as large not as 8-bed or 10-bed, etc... This is misadvertising on your side, and you could get done for it if a complaint is filed with Trading Standards.

Review 48:Room was extremely small, bathroom even smaller and not functional at all. When I was taking shower water was all over, as there was no division between shower and the rest of bathroom. Heating was switch on centrally and it was cold in the room during the day.

Review 49:They have upgraded me to ensuite room, that was nice. Room was clean. Staff was superb.

Review 50:They could have had some rooms with double bed for couples. Not a big problem, just saying to recommend.

Review 51:Location was very good for us. There are couple of great attractions around which you reach without using any public transportation. Moreover, if you wanna use underground then Russell Square and King's Cross stations are located within 600 m radius.

Review 52:I don't think they have enough staff catering for the amount of people they hold especially in the kitchen, the showers no where to put your stuff other than a hook. And I found the whole hostel extremely hot and humid.

Review 53:I like the style they are going for its very nice well set up really big hostel. Comfy beds very well set up in the rooms, nice having a sinc in the room. Well cleaned, shame the guests are really messy.

Review 54:Like other Generators, it's part of a chain and for that reason it's very impersonal. Also it's expensive anyways and yet you still have to pay for absolutely everything else - towel, breakfast etc.

Review 55:It's a lovely looking hostel in a great location.

Review 56:Not enough powerpoints per room. Only 1 double powerpoint in a 10 bed dorm. Showers were a bit dodgy/not all facilities working. All toilets on our floor blocked every time i checked them. Lift out of order during my stay.

Review 57:Rooms very clean and beds comfortable.

Review 58:Total lack of cleaning of double room even though we stayed for more than a week. Trash emptied at intervals. Shared toilets had blocking up of toilet bowls at peak hours making it smelly and impossible to use. Storage of luggage cost a hefty 5-6 pounds for 12h for one suitcase which I find totally uncalled for as many other hostels offer free storage.

Review 59:Rather new hotel with modern furnishings and decent wifi

Review 60:the heating was on full with 15 degrees outside, way too hot, we had to sleep with open windows - totally anti-ecological.

Review 61:Generators are great but you should standarize them: the one in Paris is MUCH better, and they do have reading lamps, and they do give you free towels. And please tell people at the reception already to turn their cellphones in silent mode...

Review 62:There were a few things I did not like. At first there were this totally lame breakfast, only bad quality roles with cucumbers and tomatos. There is a Pret A Manger quite cheaper and combined with more quality. Also there was one girl at the reception working, who wasnt that nice to us all. Additionally to the complete submarine like rooms, there were no warm water in the first floor. What a pain in the ass!

Review 63:I especially liked the cleanliness and the good structure of the hostel. Also there was a lot security, so I felt safe.

Review 64:Lift was broken the whole duration of our stay. 3 out of 4 showers in our floor gave either too cold, too hot or didn't give any water at all. Early in the morning we saw a lot of mice in the breakfast area

Review 65:Good value for money especially when considering the location

Review 66:Really noisy even I'm on the 4th floor but still hear the dancing music from the bar downstairs and a drunk guy shouting in the hallway really scared me in the middle of the night.

Review 67:Location

Review 68:The fish and chips was oily. It could have been less oily and crispier. We had better ones in London for less the price.

Review 69:Great location, nearby tube station, cafes and shops. Friendly and helpful reception/staff, clean and comfortable bed and bathroom. Loved the music and vibes of the hostel. The décor is pretty impressive!

Review 70:Noise from other guests in the hostel, especially annoying if u want to get a good night's sleep. Also, our room was freezing - staff said they couldn't turn up heating since it was automatically regulated.

Review 71:Friendly staff, great location, nice bar and eating area with good food

Review 72:Too few showers/toilets per floor. Fire alarms in the night and spoken to rudely despite our floor being choked with smoke at one point. No explanation or reassurance offered. Buying towels ridiculous, hire them out.

Review 73:Good location and comfortable.

Review 74:The noise from the bar is extreme. On Friday it went until 2 Am, on Staurday until 3 AM. We were sleeping in a room on the 4th stock, but we could still hear the music. This would keep me from going here a second time. Also some of the showers are broken and the water was very hot, without the possibility to make it cooler.

Review 75:Friendly staff, good bed & linen, good location. Good atmosphere although there is a lot of security.

Review 76:Quite expensive in relation what you receive, the only one lift which does not work very often, expensive beer and food.

Review 77:clean room, bedclothes, helpful stuff, 15 minutes to tube,

Review 78:fantastic place! So much to do on the first floor, you don't even need to leave. Great facilities for wheelchair users. Would recommend to anyone traveling without children.

Review 79:too many rooms for the same bathroom. Centralized heating system that they promised to switch on but failed to do.

Review 80:extremely good common area, with bar, pub, very well designed and decorated. The neighborood is a good one and buses, trains and subways are in a very close position

Review 81:The hostel has a friendly, helpful staff . Everyone is always with a beautiful smile on his face welcomes guests . The hostel has advantages that others do not have. an example is the landline phone for guest use . We can not forget the hostel's nightclub which is a charm. I would like to thank all receptionists , especially Guadalupe for your patience ever. Also, to Bianca for the affection of all time. She helped me get my luggage had been lost by the airline. Thanks Guadalupe and Bianca ! You are in my heart.

Review 82:The plugs are not enough in the dorm. The elevator is broken during my stay and I'm on the 6th floor...

Review 83:The atmosphere in the ground floor (eating, relaxing area) is really great!

Review 84:The breakfast isn't that great. The toilette weren't very clean and the showers aren't so big. There's no room for putting your towel or anything.

Review 85:Beds were very comfortable. The bar is very nice. We stayed for one night and had a great musician there. The location is great too. It's five minutes away from the kings cross station. The stuff is very friendly.

Review 86:The bathroom wasn't very clean. No coffee before 7am.No little light by the bed we had to have a big one on which is not ideal when you share the room.

Review 87:As always the staff was very nice, helpful and it was good to be back. The beds are firm which is great.

Review 88:- Making the bed myself - I lost my wallet during the evening and noticed it after check-out when I wanted to buy a metro ticket. I went back to the hotel and they had it stored. They could have warned me before I left. My ID was on it :-s... - CI could be faster. - No hot water in the sink of the room (408)

Review 89:- Great staff ! They really help the guest feel at home. Very friendly and ready to help. They should have a salary raise ;-). (Manager, if you read this ... !! ;-) ) - Nice bar / Good food - Very calm room !! => Good sleep

Review 90:There is no charge for the phone near your bad, this only think I suggest them to fix.

Review 91:Very nice location, clean place, nice bar.employee are friendly.

Review 92:The bathroom for the shared rooms is just disgusting. Its filthy and there is simply no space in the girls bathroom to put your personal belongings somewhere while you're taking a shower, brushing your teeth, etc. I was staying in a 8-bed shared dorm and there are no reading lights whatsoever and no personal sock-outlets near the beds. You really have to trust all the unknown people staying in your room not to steal your phone, while charging over night. Since the room was located in the basement-area, you could also hear the tube and the next-door neighbors in the other room very clearly (with earplugs in) and the beds were vibrating every time a tube was coming in and leaving underneath us.

Review 93:The location is just perfect. Its just a 5 minute walk to Russell Square, a big supermarket is just around the corner, and there a many lunch- or dinner-options around. The whole "chill-out and bar-area" has a pretty nice design and there are sock-outlets and places to chill everywhere in the common area.

Review 94:Minuscule room, not-so-clean common bathroom, elevator not working, keycards not working, "low-cost" mentality => you have to pay for everything and service is below standard

Review 95:relatively cheap and well located

Review 96:Shower floor always v wet but nice hot showers so can't really complain

Review 97:V good location, v clean, super safe, free breakfast was a bonus. Would recommend staying here. Will definately do it again :-)

Review 98:The breakfast didn't have a whole lot to choose from, but it was yummy and filling. Not really a complaint per say, but if you want a harty breakfast, hit up any of the many shops around the place and don't buy a breakfast tolken.

Review 99:Trendy place, nice atmosphere, and filled with a lot of cool people. About a fifty minute walk to Big Ben and all the sights, but five minutes away from the British museum.

Review 100:I booked a room for 4 people but I have been "put" in a room with 8 people. Which was not pleasant experience.

Review 101:It is decent hostel. Comparing with many others it is quite clean and modern.

Review 102:The number of sockets to charge phones were not enough in the room. There were only 4 of them in a room with 8 beds.

Review 103:Location was really good. It's close to a couple of underground stations and it feels totally safe in the night. Free Wifi worked well, bed was comfortable, breakfast was £4.50 so I didn't find it that cheap but considering high prices in London, it was okay. I would like to stay in this hostel if I have chance to visit London again.

Review 104:Breakfast did not have much of a viarity for the price

Review 105:Very cosy place with a lot to offer from restaurant to cinema to tv rooms and bar and other facilities making ones stay comfortable, security very good.

Review 106:Staff was very friendly, the facilities were clean for the most part ! Stayed in a 4 person room and although the other three were much older than I, I still felt safe and comfortable! Lockable bins under the bunk beds to store your things!

Review 107:Address is a block down from where Google maps showed it should be. Front desk and the Bar staff were completely out of half pound coins so I had to "beg" bar patrons for coins to wash and dry my laundry.

Review 108:The staff and atmosphere was friendly and fun

Review 109:You had to pay for everything extra. Bath towel. Locker. Nothing was included. At some point I was wondering if the actual bed linen was included in the price. The purpose of a hostel is to be cheap.

Review 110:Some of the staff was super friendly. The bed was very comfortable.

Review 111:In men's room on my floor, were broken three of four showers. That was not so nice. But since it was not crowded, there was no traffic jam.

Review 112:The friendliness of the staff! Especially the security was always very friendly! The location between Russell Square Underground and Kings Cross is perfect it is almost immediately there where you are going.

Review 113:Worst bathrooms and shower area I have ever seen in a hostel. All toilets were blocked water running out to the floor. Shower area was too small, very dirty, floaded and everywhere was wet. After staying in a very clean Generator hostel in Dublin, it was disappointing to experience this bad standards in London.

Review 114:Liked the bar and restaurant area. Food was very good. They do nice steaks.

Review 115:-long waiting at check-in -loud-snoring room-mate: I could not sleep -I was on the 0. floor: I've heard the underground coming-going nearby

Review 116:-location -price -clean -safe

Review 117:Shower pressure wasnt great, there were 6 showers in female bathrooms, but could only have 2 people actually using them at a time or they just wouldnt produce any water at all.

Review 118:Good location, close to Russell Square tube station.

Review 119:I have no idea why the overall rating of the hostel is so high. This was really misleading for me... I planned to stay there for 3 nights but had to check out after the first sleepless night. The main light in the room was switched on all the night long. There was no bed-light or night-light which might make life easier for those who usually use to sleep at night. No chairs or even a stool to sit down and take off your shoes (while some were shown on photos). The cast had no lock, you have to rent it. Although towels were included in my rate (as stated in my reservation), I had to pay for them. Since the rate was non-refundable - I had no compencation, no money back for early check out even though it was made due to an unacceptable level of service.

Review 120:Location is good and really attractive.

Review 121:the bar was very much like a student bar but thats more down to the guests i suppose (it looked great however)

Review 122:nice clean facilities, excellent showers (although I looked for ones other than the main ones which were not personal enough for me) stylish environments, in a great area.

Review 123:The first days I was assigned to a 8 bed room with no ventilation and really bad smell. Don´t go to the 8 bed rooms if possible.

Review 124:Everything ok in general.

Review 125:in our room a bag of dirty clothes was left from the previous people staying and was not cleaned up by the staff

Review 126:the location between two tube stops, closeness to Camden. facilities like bar and rental of products like towels. price above all

Review 127:Only one slow lift for a lot of people and many floors. Room are well organised but small

Review 128:It is amazingly clean. It is situated in a beautiful area. Staff is stunning.

Review 129:rooms are very noisy at night, from other guests who can't shut up after 11pm. showers need more security, no door, no lock only a curtain that is wet, dirty and soapy from everyone else before you and sticks to your body when you turn around. anyone can get in while you shower, not safe at all. there's also need for a small space to put your soap. toilets need to be unclogged more often in the upper floors, all 4 were unusable half the day on the 5th floor. even if you only flush toilet paper they still clog. can't use main entrance after 10pm you're redirected through a labyrinth of stairs and doors, good luck finding the elevator at 1am.

Review 130:great location, good price, free wifi in rooms, tight security outside, clean for the most part, close to tesco + tube + restaurants + post office + bus. extremely comfortable beds.

Review 131:I'm not used to sharing a room, they didn't have ear plugs, this ment it was hard to sleep through the night. Very friendly/helpful staff.

Review 132:Staying in the largest possible dormitory mentioned not having a charging by my bedside which was annoying as we basically were forced to share 2 power points between 13 people. Showers were a little awkward to use.

Review 133:The hostel was located near Russell station and relatively close to Kings Cross/St Pancras station so made travelling handy.

Review 134:it is true that some of the security staff are a bit harsh, strange when you're a customer, but otherwise our stay was great

Review 135:location, bar, reception staff,

Review 136:We only stayed one night so I didn't use many of the facilities - but the mens' and ladies' bathrooms could be labelled a bit clearer!

Review 137:Friendly staff A room to ourselves with more than enough beds! Sink in the room was also useful.

Review 138:Generator Hostel London is an excellent place to stay. It is close to the Russell Square Station on the Piccadilly line which makes it easily accessible if you fly into Heathrow airport. The facilities are all pretty much new and it is a very clan and secure hostel. The hostel also has a travel desk so you can book all your day trips or attraction tickets right at the hostel, which comes in handy. It was an excellent stay.

Review 139:Very few toilets on the floors The door in the room bumped into the bed when it was opened. Expensive luggage storage

Review 140:Easy to get to cozy cafe area quiet area

Review 141:Wished they hair dryers. Although the entrance is through a alley way at nights they have a few security people standing outside which makes it safe.

Review 142:The Design of the whole building, clean bathrooms and beds, secured rooms, I skipped breakfast but it was free and had a lie in instead, good thing there's free WiFi because i got no signal to use my 3G, There's options for late check out 1 pm (£5) and 5 pm (£10) also they had luggage storage which is good if you arrive early but you have to pay £4 for a large locker (6 hours). Definitely would stay here again. Downstairs bar and dinning area was open late (3 am?) so you can surf the internet/ chill/ meet people without disturbing room mates. I only stayed one night but it was Great.
