Reviews for Suimeikan

Review 1:The onsen though have three but quite a dissapointment. They are small and very ordinary for the price we have paid. Third floor is the better one out of the three onsen.

Review 2:Location. Just across Gero station. Walk within 3 mins.

Review 3:In-house Japanese and Western restaurants charge very high prices for very little food. Even after ordering two full courses, I was still hungry. I'm not a big guy, but the portions are so small, even a small person will be left hungry after just one course. The Western-style restaurant's main course was literally two mouthfuls! I had to order extra helpings of rice not to leave hungry, really inexcusable for the prices they charge. Fortunately, there's a ramen restaurant where you can fill up.

Review 4:Ryokan was as much a resort as a ryokan. Fantastic room, baths, service. Loved everything about the onsen. Towels provided for free in the bath area, so you can bathe as often as you want. Complimentary water for after a good soak and foot massagers available at all bathes were a blessing for this weary traveller, and the garden outside the cafe was delightful. Would love to stay again, the entire experience was incredibly relaxing for mind and body and I left feeling more refreshed.

Review 5:Sumeikan has 3 different onsen to cater for different hot spring experience and we enjoyed the sessions. The room was spacious for my family of 4.

Review 6:Tipping by foreigners apparently expected by staff, whereas local guests are not expected to do so.

Review 7:Great resort-like hotel, nice lobby with beautiful garden. Four hot spring areas to choose from.

Review 8:Smoking smell on the hallway

Review 9:Even the hotel is close to the JR station, there are shuttle bus to pick up guests. Nice & friendly staff. 3 beautiful onsen withe difference view.

Review 10:Room not large/well maintained enough for the price. Entire facilities (rooms, restaurant, baths) smell of tobacco, all the time. All services overpriced. Rather cold, unfriendly staff. Loud, rooms not sound proof.

Review 11:Well located, huge hotel.

Review 12:This is a real Japanese ryokan with very little English available. The rooms are tatami and if you are older and have difficulty getting up I would stay in a Japanese style room. We saw a large cockroach walking calmly along the floor near the outdoor onsen. This means there are more. Also, Gero isn't hard to find places to eat between 2 and 5.

Review 13:Lot of tourists stay here, so it's possible you would experience onsen full of people. Sometimes, they don't know how to use public onsen properly.

Review 14:Very close to JR station. Three onsen you can try. Breakfast is variety and Japanese meal is delicious.

Review 15:The room was a quote old but clean. If the hotel can refurbish, it would be a perfect place for family.

Review 16:Onsen on the 3rd floor was fabulous. The overall facilities are great. Brakefast were good. The location was behind the train station and near the river.

Review 17:The staff was super attentive to details and provided a warm welcome during our 2 nights stay at the hotel. The breakfast was exceptional and so are the other restaurants at the hotel. The onsen was amazing and as very kids friendly as they provided just the right size yukata for our kids (4 and 7 years old). I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely return again.

Review 18:This was night and day from Ogawara. We stayed at two different onset in Gero to experience two seperate Onsen. I would rate Ogawara 2 and Sumeikan 10. The difference is mainly the staff. The staff is trained to serve the guest at Suimeikan. Ogawara seems only prepared to handle Japanes nationals. How will they survive the Olympics? Food, cleanliness, staff were excellent at Suimeikan.

Review 19:We felt rushed during the entire guest registration process and the explanations were unclear due to marginal English speaking staff. No private onsen facility available for couples or families.

Review 20:The breakfast was excellent, beyond our expectations. The size of the room was large & comfortable. The hotel shuttle service that was provided upon arrival.

Review 21:Fewer choice of rest. The staffs at Basement restaurant are too busy so services is below expectation.

Review 22:All staffs working with heart. Excellent services. Excellent location.

Review 23:I wish they had wifi throughout the entire hotel instead of just in the lobby area.

Review 24:i LOVED the onsens. I LOVED the food. I loved the hospitality I loved the peace and tranquility.

Review 25:No wifi or internet in the room.

Review 26:Excellent location near JR station. Rooms are clean. Staff are polite and helpful. Onsens there are nice, esp for the outdoor one. There are some small nice restaurants nearby. Also there is a small supermarket near Post Office, you can buy fruits and necessities.

Review 27:Free WiFi only available in lobby and communal areas.

Review 28:Onsen were spectacular, great traditional sized room. Staff were beyond helpful, particularly a young man who spoke perfect English and was great help every time we had a question. On-site restaurants were great quality.

Review 29:Wi-Fi is only available in the lobby which is probably a bonus.

Review 30:Everything. Staff, 3 Onsens on-site, lobby lounge looks onto beautiful Japanese garden. The budget rooms are VERY large by Japanese standards. The best and most reasonable hotel I have experienced in Japan. Absolute bargain!

Review 31:Everything is beautiful - the town, the hotel, the room, the onsen (!!!), the restaurants. Staying here was the highlight of our trip. the whole family loved it.

Review 32:Not really LGBT friendly. The front desk asked me if im sure that I wanted a large bed for "two men", i said yes i am sure. But they still gave me two single beds in the end for some reason. Sofa was old and looked dirty

Review 33:Location is great, two min walk from train station. The hot springs were great with many massage machines.

Review 34:no wifi in room and the facilities looks like very old, and the food of breakfast is cold and the taste is not very nice.

Review 35:the staff very good, smile, polite, provide wonderful services. good spa and quite environment

Review 36:Hotel is bit tired and old. 9th floor bath is not very clean, if you use the onsen please at least rinse yourself! We observe a number of guest not doing so because it not make obvious. Oh, there is only reserve restaurant during off season.

Review 37:Lounge is good. Breakfast is amazing. Onsen is average.

Review 38:A cofee we ordred in the brasserie at the entrance was so awful that we couldn't drink.

Review 39:My previsous comment on Warakutei in Hida was actually for this hotel... Okada Ryokan has different types of hot spring water baths, you can fill your bathtub of gensen (not diluted hot spring water), which is not the case of Warakutei in Gero).

Review 40:I cant find anything bad about Suimeikan, they are totally perfect to us.

Review 41:I love the way their serve each of everyone of their guests. Start from we step out from Gero Station to their shuttle bus...their staff was always serve you with big and warm smiles till we reached their hotel lobby, we are so happy to see our country's flat was hag on their main entrance and their staffs are all line up to greet us. Location and all others facilities are perfect, love the onsen (three difference onsen and giving us three positive surprises). Will strongly recommend this hotel :)

Review 42:The onsens pool used a plastic floor so lost the traditional smell. I know that would prevent the old people sliding on the pool, but that is a very poor design, too bad!!

Review 43:Good location with in 3 minutes walk to JR station. Hotel provides free shuttle bus service. Standard and large hot springs in Gero.

Review 44:Absolutely nothing!

Review 45:The hotel is huge and has 3 big spas. The facilities were great, nice bar, restaurants, gift shop, pools, garden, gym and kid's amusement arcade. We got our room for an excellent price of around US$100. We thought there was a mistake when we arrived at the hotel as it was just so brilliant. This is easily the best hotel I have stayed at in Japan. Fantastic value, facilities, staff, service and breakfast. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the coach and train station. They even have a free shuttle bus for the short journey. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

Review 46:the hotel itself is big, with 3 onsens, very enjoyable

Review 61:Good onsen facilities, one person plan.

Review 62:The location is very close on the map. But takes few min on foot. Problem if we hv big luggages

Review 63:The onsen, the breakfast, the futon room

Review 64:The Japanese style beds are not suitable for elderly and mature adult. The Open-air Hot Spring area is too small.

Review 100:Totally relaxing experience. A complete immersion in the Japanese style of accomodation and hospitality at a natural onsen. We felt very well looked after with every need catered for.

Review 101:It is a tad outdated. It is clear that this was the place to visit a decade or two ago. It is still clean and functional.

Review 102:outdoor onsen is a bit small and limited view

Review 103:Conviniently locate with attentive and polite staffs
