Reviews for Hotel Beretta

Review 1:Central heating didn't seem to work Room was with lake view, however the lake was not very visible Breakfast starts at 8 Slow wifi Staff didn't understand English very well

Review 2:Great location...near train station Very comfortable and modern rooms for a 1 star hotel Very clean Bar showing Serie A

Review 3:There was no heat in the room. They apologized and it came on a couple of times for a bit, so we piled on the extra blankets.

Review 4:Great : Laura introduced herself and shook our hands; the manager behind the counter would boom out Buongiorno!" every morn; Barbara gave my wife a bottle of water (her favorite drink) when we left. Our room on the first floor was updated and spotless and the balcony had a table and chairs to view the lake. The breakfast was basic, but my wife's hot chocolate was thick and rich!

Review 5:There is no elevator, so stairs may be a problem for some travellers. We had a cold shower a couple of days, so wake up super early to shower.

Review 6:The staff was very friendly and helpful and the rooms were clearly recently redone and clean. The hotel was also very close to the train station and not far from the boat dock. This may not be in the center of town, but its not a huge town and its not a problem.

Review 7:The problem for some travelers might be the lack of elevator (there are 10 rooms on 3 floors) and AC (in case you travel during hot summer months).

Review 8:The hotel is perfectly located just steps from a railroad station and a ferry landing. It is perched atop of a bar, where locals congregate and create a lively and authentic atmosphere. We rented a room suited for three people. It was very spacious, with a balcony. The view of the lake from the balcony is stunning. The owner Barbara is extremely kind and helpful.

Review 9:Location is perfect but a little noisy with pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Wasn't a problem, evenings were quiet

Review 10:The location was perfect, easily walkable from the train station with luggage. We had a triple room with a balcony Which we were able to enjoy a glass of wine and a wonderful view. Bathroom has been updated, great shower, lots of hot water with good pressure. We definitely would recommend and hopefully have another opportunity to stay. Staff at breakfast were great!

Review 11:Lake view was not possible from our room. No elevator - as stated, but no one to assist with luggage.

Review 12:Location, neighborhood hang out, Inhouse bakery with fresh from the oven croissants. Room new & fresh!

Review 13:Oct 2 & 3, 2015 were unusually cold with early rains. Though no fault of the hotels, we were told that Italian law prohibits use of heat until Oct. 16.

Review 14:This hotel is in an excellent location. Good view of water and a very short walk to boat docks,, shops and restaurants. 3-minute walk downhill from train station. Barbara is very gracious and extremely helpful. Her English is excellent, too. All staff is very pleasant. Our second floor balcony room was spotlessly clean and reasonably priced. We highly recommend Albergo Beretta.

Review 15:No heat during 60 degree weather due to some Italian law that can't turn heat on between Oct 1-15. Hotel was pretty basic.

Review 16:Nice staff who tried to please.

Review 17:For a budget hotel, what's not to like? No bad comments

Review 18:Ticks all the boxes. Friendly staff and situated in a prime position for everywhere. Would definitely return.

Review 19:The noise from closing doors and thin walls. But it wasn't that bad

Review 20:The lovely girl who checked us in was wonderful. Laura?? Welcoming, friendly and helpful. We stayed in the top floor which is newly renovated. Very clean and neat, staying with the old world charm. Huge corner room. Beautiful..! Fantastically close and easy walk to train station

Review 21:The hotel is in a great location just off the tourist area. Very nice people. The lobby bar area was frequented by locals who met there in the evening to watch soccer and play cards. It was like a scene out of a movie!

Review 22:Wifi is a little weak in the rooms. Works in lobby.

Review 23:This location is great. You are close to the train and ferry. The staff is very accommodating. Great value for the money. The rooms and bathrooms have recently been updated., and are immaculate. I would definitely stay here again and recommend Albergo Berreta to my friends and family.

Review 24:we had our windows open and it was a bit noisy, however we were exhausted so we had a comfortable rest!!

Review 25:The location was perfect, easy to find from train

Review 26:A bit of noise from the bar below. Very basic breakfast.

Review 27:Our room had a big balcony with a lovely view to the lake and mountains. Big room and bathroom. Very close both to the lakeside and the railway station. Good price.

Review 28:This hotel is close to both the train station and the ferry terminal. Our room was extremely clean and nicely decorated. The staff is simply wonderful.

Review 29:Nothing really to dislike, except perhaps that the inclusive breakfast was basic continental.

Review 30:The Hotel Beretta is well located, near the ferry terminal, with most rooms having a view of the lake. The rooms are quite large and well equipped with a modern separate shower-toilet room. Barbara and other young staff are charming and helpful. We also stayed in another hotel in Varenna for almost twice the price, but prefer the Beretta as great value for money.

Review 31:As usual in Italy the breakfasts are adequate but sweet.

Review 32:Location is very convenient to the train station, the ferry and the town. The room was very comfortable, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The coffee was the best we have had in Europe in 2 months.

Review 33:No air con. It was a very warm day when we visited so depending on the weather it could be fine.

Review 34:Staff were very pleasant. No request was too much for them.

Review 35:No air con in the middle of a heat wave but had a great fan so we were surprisingly comfortable!

Review 36:Loved our second floor room with the balcony! Clean and modern bathroom. Staff were lovely. Very close to the lido for swimming, ferry dock and train station. Short lovely walk to town.

Review 37:There was language issues with some of the staff not understanding english, but was workable. Lack of air conditioning means unconfortable conditions in warmer weather like I experienced in the 96-100 degree range, which was somewhat offset by a fan that was provided. The breakfast was basic with cereal, yogurt, crosiant, juice and coffee but was adequate. The free parking is provided in a separate surface public parking lot about a 5 minute walk up the hill behind the hotel but worked fine for me. There is a cafe on the ground level and very popular with the locals, which means some noise in the evenings. The hotel is also adjacent to a main road which generates noise through out the day and evenings.

Review 38:The hotel is centrally located and near the Varenna Ferry Landing. I had a corner room and balcony facing the lake with an awesome view. They upgraded me to a much larger room which was massive in size.

Review 39:No air conditioning, although there was a fan. The street noise is quite audible (it is located on a street conrner, close to local traffic) so we had to sleep with the windows shut and the fan going.

Review 40:The room was clean. The owner was friendly and helpful with our bags, and even offered us some free tea and coffee upon our departure. She also stored our bags for us while we visited the local castle site on our check-out day, while we were wasting time before our train ride out. ***We were also surprised at how close to the train station it was - literally a 2 minute walk down the road - the map location on google or bookings.com is totally wrong. Its not up a winding street. Its right in the town, steps from the train station.

Review 41:Absolutely pay a tiny bit more to stay in the room with the balcony. Very nice to sit on the balcony in the morning. This place is also in a nice Lake Como town called Varenna, and close to ferry, shops, etc. Theres also thelocal newsagent and bar at the bottom of the hotel, so it gives it a very local feel.

Review 42:No complaints, this venue was a real surprise and we loved it - a real bargain.

Review 43:Attention to detail was excellent, Barbara was very helpful and spoke very good English. Great location near railway station and close to the water with great views.

Review 44:Great location if staying in Lake Como. The hotel is just a 5 minute walk from the Varenna-Esino station and an even closer walk to the ferry landing! We were booked in room 10 (the upstairs lake view suite) and it was stunning. We had a cooking class that ended past our check-out time, but the staff was willing to work with us and hold our luggage until we returned. Would definitely come back :)

Review 45:The Internet was weak in the room, they just need a better repeater modem in the hallway upstairs.

Review 46:Felt like home away from home, family owned and operated, with accommodating hosts, I loved that the locals came every day and got thier coffees and some hung out with the owner you could tell they've known each other for decades! See you again soon!

Review 47:absolutely nothing we wish we could have stayed longer

Review 48:Incredibly convenient walk from the station and then down to the beach outstanding view of the lake in the mountains from our room free Wi-Fi incredibly helpful and sweet staff and owners. Spotlessly clean €75 with breakfast. Room one and six have balconies directly over the lake. However these two rooms do not get good Wi-Fi.

Review 49:The beds were not the most comfortable

Review 50:The location couldn't be more convenient if you are traveling by train because it is just down from the station. The staff was friendly and helpful and was kind enough to keep our bags for us until we could check into our apartment. Free wifi was also handy.

Review 51:Wifi never worked in the room. The network can be seen, but connection was never possible in the room. Owner's excuse was that it is an old building and the walls are thick. That can't be true as neighbouring networks are seen with stronger signal bars.

Review 52:Lake Como area is great. Beautiful and relaxing. Hotel Beretta is a practical property to stay in and convenient.

Review 53:no elevator

Review 54:Very closed to train station. Can walk comfortably to ferry station and town. Large suite room. Good to see the lake and the mountain from balcony. Have table and chair at balcony! Choose upper floor for best view. Not expensive. I will come again at next Como lake visit.

Review 55:Too much noisy . Common parts,Stairs and door between the hotel and the bar too noisy. Wake up at 05h30 AM by some hotel customers...! No Wi-Fi on the room.

Review 56:The location, near the lake and some restaurants

Review 57:Very friendly, helpful staff. Beyond the atmospheric local bar downstairs are extremely clean, tidy, comfortable rooms - very surprised this is only a one-star. Be prepared for a genuine Italian bar/cafe - older men arguing animatedly over card games, football on the screen, gaming machines etc. That said, its very good-natured and friendly, and I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Varenna. It's a great place to return to after the very touristy nature of Varenna and the lake in general. Also very close to the station.

Review 58:quite rush road under the balcony bad wifi signal in the room - for proper connection you have to go out of room

Review 59:very nice and smiling staff room with the balcony - view on the mountains parking at the hotel chocolate croissant - great - for the breakfast, but just one

Review 60:Nothing - everything was perfect! Maintain the great service!

Review 61:Location was great - about 200m from train station and the boat ports. We had a lake-facing room which was excellent to view the sunset. Staff were extremely helpful and went out of their way to assist. Room was clean and comfortable. Nice breakfast, freshly made coffee and croissants with cereals, yoghurt etc. Highly recommended!

Review 62:Short beds.

Review 63:Our little balcony with a view of the lake was perfect! Even though this place is not right in the heart of the town it is close enough (& closer to train station) and still boasts a killer view from room #6. Very clean & comfy, the help all spoke English very well. Only downgraded the bed a bit because it was too short for 6'6" husband. Best lighting in the room of any hotel we've ever stayed in, anywhere! We arrived early before our room was ready, they stored our bags and delivered to our room when it was ready. We had to leave extra early in the morning, and they would not allow us to miss breakfast making sure that coffee & food was available for us! Very nice! Decent drink prices in bar/cafe attached.

Review 64:There is no air conditioning or fan and opening the window just caused an infestation of insects. We visited in May so it wasn't too big an issue but it would be pretty unbearable in hotter months. It was almost impossible to connect to wifi in our room so we had to go down to the main floor to connect. The double bed was actually two twins pushed together and was not the most comfortable. No elevator. When I called to confirm our reservation the staff hung up on me twice because they didn't speak English. However, upon arriving the lady spoke enough English to get by and was very friendly and tried to help us as best she could.

Review 65:The room was clean and fairly spacious but the bathroom was small by North American standards. View of the lake! Varenna is so small that anywhere you stay will be close to the train station, lake, town centre, restaurants, etc. We only stayed overnight so this hotel suited our needs but this beautiful town deserves a longer stay. For a short stay and for the price, this hotel was just fine.

Review 66:Wifi doesn't reach upstairs rooms. Is fine downstairs though.

Review 67:Location, close to train, town centre, ferry stop and lovers walk. Locals frequent the shop/bar/cafe downstairs which was nice to be around instead of tourists all the time. Friendly staff.

Review 68:Wireless only works in dining area downstairs.

Review 69:In particular the manager was very friendly and accommodating. Very close to train station and lake. Breakfast was great but not too fancy. Very clean and quiet with great shower!

Review 70:Very clean, good beds, and Barbara and Cristian are doing a great job, make you feel like being with friends. Good breakfast, very good coffee, and a good position in the village to make little tours. We will certainly come back soon.

Review 71:Our room smelled a bit moldy, we kept the window open during the day and it got better the 2nd day.

Review 72:Friendly staff. Very well remodeled bathroom. Room nice and clean.

Review 73:There is nothing to complain about really. Only thing I can think of is that there is a 5 -10 minutes walking distance from the hotel to the centre of Varenna. It did not matter for us at all though, since the village is so small.

Review 74:- The hotel was situated very close to the train station, which was convenient for us since we travelled with quite heavy luggage. - The staff were very friendly and caring. We felt well treated during our whole stay. - The hotel was fresh and clean and we had a very nice view over the lake from our window. - The breakfast was nice. They gave us fresh coffee every morning (you could choose between Italian black coffee, americano, cappuccino etc). We also got croissants, bread, yoghurt and juice. Breakfast was included in the price, which we appreciated.

Review 75:No elevator, basic breakfast.

Review 76:Staff was very helpful and accommodating, though they didn't speak much English (better than our Italian, though ;-) ). Location was good for town and train station. Basic but clean room.

Review 77:Varenna is absolutely beautiful, so everything else is not very important. The hotel was worth the money, very clean, very close to the harbour and the city center. Our room had a balcony from where we could admire the beautiful lake, so when booking ask for a room with balcony.

Review 78:Some noise from bar below in some rooms.

Review 79:Very handy location for railway station and boat trips so really could not be better if you want to be out and about.

Review 80:It was a bit noisy at night as there is a bar under the rooms. Not too bad though and the shop/bar was a great place to sit and write travel diaries.

Review 81:Great location close to the railway station and ferry terminal and 5 minute walk into town. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 82:The bed was really, really hard and the bathroom needs a renovation and a good clean.

Review 83:Very practical location close to the train station and ferry and even though not quite in the center of town it was only a 5 min walk. Very simple and friendly place. We had a room with a view which was pleasant.

Review 84:Staff speaks very basic English. No lift and if you carry a heavy luggage might be a problem. Breakfast is very basic.

Review 85:Very close to train station and lake. Very clean and comfortable. Good view of the lake.

Review 86:Nothing to mention

Review 87:Staffs were friendly at first place and the location of the hotel was very near to the train station and ferry ride point. The ambience was pleasant and overall we enjoyed our stay.

Review 88:This hotel is an easy walk from the train station and the ferry. Varenna is a beautiful town to stay in. The reception doubles as a news agency, bar and local meeting place. It is really lovely as it fits about 10-12 locals who are able to sit and chat. A good breakfast was served there. Our room was simple but clean and comfortable. We had a view over the lake. My daughter and I both loved our stay here.

Review 89:Breakfast limited to ONE coffee and one croissant You pay extra for more. Location is central, but literally the noisiest place in town unil after midnight. Even when bar closed, locals stayed and hooted it up for a couple more hours in the patio under my window. There were plenty of other hotels a few blocks that were central and dead silent by 2200.

Review 90:Close to train town and ferries

Review 91:The fact that we were only allowed one coffee and one croissant for breakfast .when they began to drill in the floor above our bedroom at 8.0 am no one apologized . This happened 2 days in a row .

Review 92:A great location in a lovely place .Funny people kept showing up at the public zone .It was like being in an old Italian movie set !

Review 93:Well, one star near the hotel name well describes the place, you will probably be not surprised with the extraordinary comfort. But you may be surprised with extraordinary hospitality.

Review 94:Can get a little noisy at night. The hallway door slams closed which echo's through to the rooms. This is only a minor point as it didn't effect us too muh

Review 95:The location was great. Just a 2min walk from the train station that runs directly from Milano and 5min walk to the lake and the ferry that explores the other lake side towns. The price was good and the staff are friendly.

Review 96:Breakfast is kinda spartan and is served right in their own cafe downstairs. Yogurt, Cornetto, juiceand coffee of your choice. Not that I didn't like it necessarily but spartan.

Review 97:Good budget accomodations near the train station, letting you drop off your bags near the train station instead of having to drag them all the way downtown.

Review 98:The mattrass was old and very uncomfortable. Room desperatly needs refreshing and new furniture.

Review 99:Great location between railway station and ferry. Nice view of lake Como.

Review 100:A little noisy in the morning but tolerable.

Review 101:Location was close to the train station and our room had a lake view. Friendly helpful staff. Breakfast was good: juice, croissant, yogurt & Cappachino

Review 102:Bed was just ok... But I slept well.

Review 103:Very friendly and welcoming small hotel -- felt like I was truly living in Italy... Not too touristy! Great place for the price!! My room had a shared bathroom and a partial view of Lake Como and the mnts. Locals of all ages hang out at the Cafe/bar on below. Wonderful opportunity to get to visit with the lovely locals. Just a few short blocks from the train and to the ferry and resturants. I would stay again just for the experience!

Review 104:Very little English but just brought.

Review 105:Actually it was quiet at nite.very close to train station. Rooms above the very busy coffee house. Fun people watching. Close to everything

Review 106:The shared bathroom was down the hall and although there was a cobweb incorner, it was clean and operational. Both of us took showers and weresatisfied; in fact, it seemed like we had the bathroom all to ourselvesmost of the time. However, there was no hot water in our room; when wereported it, the house staff checked and told us that someone would fixit. The fix never happened. Other than the lack of hot water in our roomand the fact that we could hear street traffic and some noise from thebar downstairs, our stay was quite relaxing. Hotel Beretta should havetwo stars instead of just one . . . would definitely stay here againnext time around.

Review 107:Do you want local color, a terrific location at Lake Como, an affordablerate, and being taken care of by an efficient and friendly staff? If so,then you should stay at this little place with rooms above a combinationbar (European version), restaurant, and newsstand/tobacconist. Thenight receptionist, Chiara spoke limited English (she had spent 2 weeksin New York City, staying near Central Park), but was very helpful whenwe first arrived. She personally assisted us in bringing our luggage upseveral flights of stairs (there is no lift) and when asked, recommendeda nice local restaurant. The night before we left, she prepared for ourearly morning departure by setting a 0700 wake-up call and an out ofsequence 0730 breakfast (normal time is 0800-1000), as well as arrangingfor luggage movement assistance. The property is in close walking distance (5 to 10 minutes depending on your physical condition and whether you are burdened with luggage or not) to the train station and the ferry boat pier. The local tourist information office is right next door. In short, this property is perfectly situated for a stay at Lake Como and visiting the other towns on both sides of the lake.Hotel Beretta appears to be an “old boys” hangout, populated by locals . . . this added color and warmth to our stay. Our room was small, but clean and had a balcony with a view of the lake. In fact, it was at the very front and center of the property and, arguably, the best room in the house. The small flat screen TV was fine (saw the American programs Columbo, Law and Order, Dukes of Hazard, and Covert Affairs . . . all in English).Things got done efficiently at this small establishment. An example of that efficiency was demonstrated when a small discrepancy of 20 Euros was found on our bill that we had paid earlier in the evening; the duty manager (who did not make the error and did not speak English) simply took 20 Euros from the till and settled the matter on the spot.

Review 108:-Beware: we left our luggage in the hotel kitchen while we did some moresight-seeing. Someone stole a purse with jewelry from my mother'ssuitcase. That's always disappointing. For this reason, I can'trecommend this hotel. -The lack of english ability of the staff -one ofour reservations was missing when we got there

Review 109:-Pleasant enough though expensive for not having bathrooms attached tosome of the rooms -after a little convincing, they honored the price ofthe room for a reservation that was missing (though we had the paperworkwith the reservation)

Review 110:I have had better breakfasts but it was adequate.

Review 111:Berreta is wonderfully located for access to the ferries and the train. It is above a bar where locals hang out so definitley doesnt have a tourist feel - which was interesting.

Review 112:Bed, lack of air conditioning (in my room at least), but at that price I have no right to complain

Review 113:Location, staff, provided what you would expect for €40 per night in one of the most beautiful parts of the world.

Review 114:This isn't a fancy spot but it's a great spot if you are on a budget. The rooms were clean and comfy and even had a fan which is rare in Europe. I felt very safe staying at the hotel as a single woman traveler and the location was close to the town so I felt safe venturing out by myself at night as well. The breakfast is very simple but fine. The staff was all very friendly.

Review 115:Slightly off-hand staff, but they were busy. Not enough to put me off.

Review 116:Handy location next to the travel agency where you need to pick up your rail tickets. Nice view of the lake from some rooms (mine included). Decent bar.

Review 117:Climbing stairs with suitcases difficult--some help given--but should be automatic for mature guests--over 70 years!

Review 118:Location Excellent in Varenna our room on corner great sharing bathroom proved ok!

Review 119:No parking, after the hotel saying it did. Cost €10 per day.

Review 120:The room was the corner room, with the most fantastic view of the lake. Saw the fire works, from the balcony and enjoyed a wine. Great internet. Breakfast okay. Shared bathroom worked fine, basins in the room. Central location, walk to the ferry or the station. Great spot.

Review 121:- Wifi almost useless in the rooms, besteht available in the bar - almost no english - we had to change the room in the middle of our stay - breakfast is "Italian style" small, but included in the price of room

Review 122:- daily room service - relatively cheap price - very close to the lake, ferries and train Station

Review 123:security alarm went off 3 times in one night, late noise from the bar, uncooperative staff re flexibility in breakfast timing

Review 124:good location, friendly reception, nice bar facilities

Review 125:Nothing- this place is great for the price!

Review 126:Friendly staff. Downstairs is a small cafe and general store frequented by locals, with inexpensive wine. Breakfast included and was pretty good. Location is 10 min walk from Varenna train station and 5 min walk to ferry terminal. The room was bright and comfortable. Really a good find.

Review 127:none

Review 128:Location, Staff, Room comfort

Review 129:I was travelling by bike which had a puncture. They let me repair it in their garage where I could also leave my bike for the night.

Review 130:very friendly and helpful staff

Review 131:Best location, near the train station & the dock. Very nice staff.

Review 132:Just a few minutes walk from Varenna Ferry Terminal. Funny staff (Laura) and yummy cappucino. Speedy check-in and out.

Review 133:Nothing, we loved it.

Review 134:Great spacious room on 2nd floor with view, very clean, nice breakfast, great location, friendly staff.

Review 135:Lovely little hotel 2min walk to the banks of lake como. Whats not to like?
