Review 1：My stay at Albergo del Sole was very surprising after having read the previous reviews, because neither the location nor the cleanliness were outstanding. The furniture of the rooms is outworn, the decoration of the breakfast area, also restaurant, is outdated and with just little effort the hotel would give a much better impression. The management seems to be weak. Beware also of the cancellation policy which is 10 days before arrival, what is very unusual for hotel websites. There is also a minimum 2 days stay policy not mentioned on the website. Even booking.com was not informed about this regulation. Overall there are better places with much better facilities at the same price level direct at the lake side and I would not return to this hotel.

Review 14：No air-con in room 1 - Trieste - but the day I left, the fans were coming in for the hot weather. The room is great for solo traveller with a tiny single bed against the wall plus window that opens. Loved everything else.

Review 15：Very good location right on Piazza S. Giorgio, but you have to climb down to the harbour so don't stay here if you have walking difficulties. In fact most of Varenna requires climbing. To get from the railway station, you need to walk down hill, including one set of stairs, so don't bring a large suitcase. Francesco and Enzo from the hotel were very friendly and helpful and breakfast thankfully wasn't the usual buffet, but individually served by Enzo, who told me of a spiagetta close by for a swim in the lake. Extremely delicious meal in the restaurant.

Review 16：The sound insulation wasn't very good, so I was kept awake by the sound of someone watching a movie late at night.

Review 17：The location was perfect, and the proprietor greeted me with a free coffee when I arrived. I requested a taxi for my trip to the train station and it was waiting for me when I checked out. Free breakfast was good too.

Having the restaurant downstairs was a real bonus, especially as few other places were open in early December.

The included breakfast was plentiful and delicious, and the service was excellent. Review 32：We had a perfect stay. Our room on the third floor was just as pictured. It was lovely with a beautiful view of the lack. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel. The dinner was delicious and very reasonably priced. The hotel staff could not have been more lovely. We highly recommend this hotel and we look forward to returning on another holiday.

Review 83：The bathroom was equipped for disabled people, and therefore had no shower base. This meant the bathroom flooded during each shower, with no "overflow" drain in the bathroom. After showering, we had to wade through water to use the bathroom until the room was serviced and floor mopped.

I felt very comfortable here and the owners and staff went to great lengths to make me feel welcome.The fresh fish for dinner in the restaurant was great! I would definitely stay here again.

Review 86：This small, comfortable hotel sits on the main piazza of Varenna and you immediately feel a part of the village. From our room in the front of the hotel, we saw a bride glide across the piazza in her princess dress. We could see children playing soccer and tag in the evening and watch local residents go about their every day life. This is the "real" Varenna, not the touristy area. The church bells ring regularly (don't expect to sleep after 7 AM) and there's a delicious breakfast of meats and cheeses with fresh rolls and fruit croissants waiting for you. Francesco, Ansel and Dorothea are wonderful hosts who greet you on arrival as if you were family, treat you like family during your stay and offer suggestions of what to do and see and welcome you at the end of your day with a "welcome home" smile! While this hotel is not on the lake, it's just steps away from the lanes leading to the water and an easy walk to the ferry and train station! We stayed here 5 nights and were sorry to leave.

Review 87：I wish it had Wi-fi. My accommodation was a single and it had a twin bed so if you are a couple, plan accordingly.

Review 88：The staff was very accommodating and performed well despite my poor Italian - they made the effort. Personally, I loved the location right on the central square , the church bells did not bother me at all and I'm a light sleeper. Folks who like being on the water will be disappointed.

Review 89：Not so much a don't like as a recommendation. As a first time traveller to Italy I was not familiar with the emergency alarm cord located in the shower and accidentally pulled it, thinking it was for the fan. It would have been a good idea to explain the cord's use at check-in.

Review 91：The free wifi was very unreliable.Like most hotels and B&Bs we have used throughout europe for the past 6 weeks very little attention is given to providing for gluten free customers-this could be easily overcome by inserting on their booking sheet "are there any special dietary requirements"...airlines do it why can't booking .com accommodate this ?It will lead to greater customer satisfaction and repeat business.

Review 92：Location was superb despite the bell chimes at 7 o'clock.Del sole had a lift which was great as we were on the 3rd floor and had a front room location with a reasonable view of the lake.Staff were very helpful and met requests for alternative food and fruit at breakfast. The front desk was always attended and it was always a beautiful and 10 minute slow walk to the ferry.Time of the year meant it was still a reasonably quiet time.

The location of the hotel is in the center of Varenna that is a small village (app. 500 inhabitants), but a lovely place. The coffee of the breakfast was very good. The distance to the ferryboat station is around ten minutes walk. The train station is located to less than 1 km (5 minutes by taxi). Each room has a name which is very nice. We stayed in Freccia del Lario, one of the first boats of the lake.

Nice location in main town square and the restaurant was popular with many during the evening as it was cheaper to eat here than many other nearby restaurants. Only a short walk to the water front and a 500/600 metre beautifully stunning lakeside walk to the ferry port.
