Reviews for Gero Onsen Fugaku
Review 1:The taste of both breakfast and dinner was so so. One of the two ladies who served us meals was not too polite, which was kind of a "surprise".
Review 2:Great onsen plus its location was excellent. It's 10 minutes walk to the main street. The staff at the reception and the one who greeted us called Ben was very friendly. He was originally from Hong Kong and he made us feel home. Prior to our arrival, he had also sent us lots of useful information getting there and around.
Review 3:The basement onsen was not impressive. The private (which is free, just need reservation) and 5 floor is wonderful
Review 4:The food was amazing. The service was excellent. Everyone was very kind
Review 5:The services were excellent. The room was clean and comfortable. The food was impressive. The sale manager of the hotel shared the best route for our Japan tour and we really appreciated.
Review 6:The onsens are not in traditional design and not big enough.
Review 7:Staff are very helpful and the manager speaks Cantonese. They even have different Japanese bathing clothes for ladies to choose. Rooftop onsen is also good. Dinner was good
Review 8:A distance from the train station. Not to worry, transportation is provided by the ryokan.
Review 9:Everything was great for this Ryokan. Special thanks to Ben Ng for his detailed briefing on the Ryokan and also arranging a room for the 9 of us to have our dinner and breakfast.
Review 10:No convenience store nearby
Review 11:Staff were very friendly and helpful. provided us with free pick up and send off to the station. Outdoor onsen and meals provided was fanastic
Review 12:Private onsen and public outdoor onsen on the 5th floor are impressive. Ben and hotel staff are very helpful and kind. Dinner's great especially Hida beef. Nice view of Hida river.
Review 13:none
Review 14:I booked 3 rooms with half board in Fugaku, and the second day I rcvd an email which from Manager Ben, a so so nice, helpful, kind man. We were late because we missed the train to Gero, but Ben still arranged a car to pick up us at the station, and the dinner were already in the dining room. The room was larger and comfortable while the onsen is awesome! I recommend Fugaku to every of my friend!
Review 15:Located an easy walk to JR Gero Station, this ryokan is great value. Traditional without being stuffy, they are used to dealing with foreigners. Food was brilliant - and they produced great meals for an ovo-lacto vegetarian.
Review 16:It's si nice to stay in a hotel ran by a Hong Kong person, Ben, who is still in a very hong kong style. The good is nice n the roof top outdoor onsen is nice. Although the portion of food is not very much by compared with other onsen hotel but the quality is good!
Review 17:None. If I have to say something here...probbaly the Men and Women Onsen locations are a little bit confusing as they swapped on day and night, just pay attention before entering.
Review 18:Staffs of Fugake provides excellent services. Mr. Ng of Fugake has been very helpful. He arranged the pick up from the Gero JR station and helped me to ship my luggage to Fugake before my arrival. He also provided the advise for my actitivties in Gero. Thanks for the advise for visting the Temple of Onsen - Night Maple Leafs watching, this is an excellent experience. I had one of my best dinner and breakfast. Mr. Ng also explained in details of the meals. All staffs are very effecient and friendly.
Review 19:A great experience of an onsen ryokan. With very helpful staff and located in the centre of Gero it was easy to reach everything and do all the town had to offer. The onsen were great as well, and the food (both breakfast and dinner) was wonderful.
Review 20:I only stayed here for 1 night and didn't do too much exploring, much as I'd wanted too.
Review 21:Everything! The staff, the hotel appearance, the food! Despite being more akin to a Ryo-kan experience from appearance-wise,to me,it felt like a 5 star experience! At Gero Onsen Fugaku, they make sure their guests truly enjoy their stay and it shows. Ben-san,the manager explained to me in great detail what to expect and also gave an important tips on how to properly wear a Yukata(something I didn't wear properly elsewhere before and set me on the right way.) A bit later, someone came in to set up my futon on the floor and was very fast and skilled in doing that, which shows tons of experience! Later I had the traditional experience of having dinner served in my room and was flaggergasted at the presentation and sheer amount of food I was served! The hostess server was extremely gracious and fun to chat with. She and Ben-san briefed me on some of the local dishes and it was nice to always learn something new! I really liked the layout of the hotel and the room, which had a Geisha doll displayed in glass, which added a very nice touch to the room. Breakfast was just as wonderful as dinner, similar experience having a fun chat with the hostess server again. I checked out earlier in the morning but was given a free ride to Gero Onsen JR. A great experience that its a shame it ended so fast! Next time I'd like to at least book more then 1 night,2-3 just to make sure I don't miss anything too long, lol!
Review 22:Worth to stay. Good location with shuttle bus service and easy to reach by car. Friendly and helpful staff. Food (especially the famous beef) are very delicious. I (Female) can choose my own Japanese robe!
Review 23:The sales manager Mr. Ben was very helpful. We arrived by train earlier than expected and he arranged pick up from Gero train station and earlier check in. Before we arrived, he also provided helpful information. The ladies served us dinner was also very nice and tried to communicate with us in English even if it's hard for her.
Review 24:Fugaku's name shows at shop's center. We couldn't find name easily.
Review 25:good food and comfortable room it's good at gero onsen water's quality. public baths are small but 5th small public outdoor bath is good. Night view is beautiful and near gero temple. but street is small. It goes cars are some fast. so it 's some dangerous walking around fugaku at night. It's some far village center. night market opens in village center, but we couldn't go.

Review 49:A very good experience stay at onsen hotel with good service at Gero Onsen Fugaku. Very helpful and friendly staff they had, especially Ben. Most important he is Chinese more easy for us to communicate. Is a nice and peaceful hotel to stay and value for money.
Review 50:Good location, hence everything is within walking distance - shopping, sightseeing, footbaths, the Gero train station. Both breakfast and dinner were good, but most likely suitable for people who like traditional Japanese cuisine, others should have something eatable with them just in case. Also you get a chance to wear a Kimono and indulge in hot spring baths. All in all the room was clean and the staff was friendly and utmost helpful.
Review 51:Food is not as good as expected.
Review 52:Chinese and English speaking staff. Other Japanese staff are also very polite and helpful. Clean and big rooms. Great onsen facilities you can feel comfortable with. Pick-up service available. Highly recommended if you want an onsen getaway.
