Reviews for Champasak Palace Hotel

Review 1:The hotel is not what it seems on the outside. The interior and facilities are old with hot water problems. There is not enough lighting in the rooms.

Review 2:It need to be upgraged. It's kind of old. Nice from outside. Room had no window and bed wasn't comftable. Not much to do around. Breakfast was boring and not much.

Review 3:The price was cheap. It was the only hotel available at low price. Stayed from dec 6th To 9th 2015.

Review 4:- hotel could do with some renovation. - water leak (ceiling bathroom) from the room upstairs. Told the staff in the morning but only stayed 1 night, so don't kow if they fixed it..

Review 5:- hotel breathes history! - large rooms. - not many English speaking staff members but everyone was very friendly and always tried to help.

Review 6:breakfast average, bathroom had mildew on ceiling, dirty mat at door of room, bar and restraint worthless. Bathrobes child size.

Review 7:It was built as a royal palace and has a very interesting exotic feel and look.

Review 8:A bit far from towncenter but you can still go on foot (better not when the sun is at it's hottest. Breakfast is concentrated in asian visitors.

Review 9:Polite staff. Despite being a bit worn out the place has a certain charm. They gave as a terrace room from where we could enjoy great views of the town and the rivers around. Our room was spacious and airy.

Review 10:Wifi works at lobby only

Review 11:a unique classic heritage hotel, not to be missed in Pakse. Nice and cozy rooms with wonder balconies. Beautiful room for breakfast with good choices and delicious bread

Review 12:The breakfast is awful didn't eat second morning. Gym equipment not serviceable. Sauna pay extra?? Rooftop bar closed. Old musty damp rooms.

Review 13:Impressive looking building from the outside

Review 14:The hotel itself was great. A fine place to come home to. Pakse city isn't that attractive. Go out and explore!

Review 15:The room was huge. The interior of the rooms is older but in good shape. But do not only stay in your room; enjoy the galleries! Walking around and sitting on one of the ubiquitous benches at the galleries is just nice.. The open character and good views of the surroundings are great. Very good value for money.

Review 16:When someone in the room above had a shower the water came through the ceiling of our bathroom. Also the floor flooded when we used the sink. Tour groups arriving late at night woke the whole hotel.

Review 17:Pleasant staff.

Review 18:No swimming pool, and many mossies possibly due to the run down water features and fountain

Review 19:The fact it was an historical building and had a Bollywood feel

Review 20:Rooms are a bit dark, but that's fine for a night or two

Review 21:Striking French Colonial style. Looks like 'Grand Hotel', but is very modern Light and airy public rooms. Very spacious throughout including large bedrooms as standard and lots of places to sit in the shade on very wide public galleries. Location - only 10 minutes quick walk to town. $35 (standard double with 6 foot bed) a bargain for all this.

Review 22:We booked a twin room and got a small double bed, noisy airco, right above the kitchen side. Lot of noise from 5 am.

Review 23:Breakfast in large beautiful restaurant, historic character of the Palace, has potential to become an attractive hotel, if...

Review 24:This was a great place to spend a few days. Got the bigger room and it had a front door and a back door that opened on to a balcony that ran all around the old palace. Can not understand why the place was basically empty but maybe because it's a fairly long walk to the tourist area downtown. Great building and outside dining area even if the roof top bar and pool table are closed. Free ride to airport in the morning.

Review 25:No hot shower, phone broken, run-down room and smelly carpet, poor matras, asian breakfast only, poor service. In sum: too expensive for what it offered.

Review 26:Seats outside the room, with view on garden

Review 27:The Manager helped us to organize a tour near Pakse and 4000 islands for a really good price with a local tour agency (with a very good English speaking driver).

Review 28:Wifi not working, very poor breackfast, quite far from city center, spa and massages not available, staff doesn't speak english

Review 29:Nice structure,nice terrace

Review 30:breakfast was disappointing - almost no variety, boiled eggs were liquid, lots of flies on the fruits; "extras" like laundry, stamps etc. are overpriced;

Review 31:nice to sleep in an old palace (even if the place is a bit run-down now)

Review 32:Limited breakfast selection, wifi shaky, hotel has seen better days and could use some refurbishments

Review 33:Atmosphere, building, value for money, central location

Review 34:The 'high-speed' WiFi did not work at all in the room, and was very slow in the lobby. Get a data sim instead, 3G/4G is good. Water pressure in the shower was below average but ok.

Review 35:The building is stunning, it's a former palace converted to a hotel with modern touches. Staff are great, restaurant is decent (if you want to eat Western style food) and rates are reasonable if a bit high by local comparison.

Review 36:It's look to old also should be renovation. The deck bar too quite should be more activities except snooker. The garden located in front of hotel, look out of decorated. The breakfast taste is not delicious found.

Review 37:A place is beautiful, look great, good services and easy to go anywhere by walk.

Review 38:If you once want to stay with the luxury of the 1960s, you should come to this place. It's really original ! Very big rooms, beds ok, staff ok and everything in this house is with the patina of a bygone era. Wer einmal wissen will, wie ein Luxusuralub in Pakse 1960 ausgesehen hat, der kommt unbedingt hierher. Alles hat einen angestaubten Charme aber ist für dieses Geld absolut ok.

Review 39:This is not the hotel's fault but if there is one word of advice don't stay in Pakse for any longer than you have to. There is nothing to do or see. Pakse is good as a transport hub but nothing else.

Review 40:The hotel is nice, the rooms are big and the buffet breakfast is really good.

Review 41:*Our room was very dusty and smelled like mold so I was sick wih bad allergies the whole time. Room was quite old. *our room was right next to the ballroom so it was quite noisy *this beautiful building is falling apart and it is sad to see. More promotion for the rooftop bar needs to happen around the city and more money needs to go into repairing/updating the rooms.

Review 42:*When you first walk up it truly is a magnificent building! You can tell that at one point it was a building where the most important people stayed and it was where everyone wanted to be. *We really enjoyed the charm of such a unique place! *Plus the price was very very good. *Rooftop bar dome ceiling was beautiful and the view from up there was too!

Review 43:Nothing!

Review 44:The palace was elegant and delightful to stay in with huge, very clean rooms, comfy beds, a sitting place directly outside our room and even a couple of English T.V. Channels to watch. The rate also I lauded a very nice breakfast. The grounds were spacious and lovely to walk around and yet we were only a ten minute walk from most of the other downtown guest houses.

Review 45:The breakfast was very poor standard with hardly any choice. The bus tickets they booked to travel to 4000 Islands were highly priced and they gave us the wrong time for our pickup.

Review 46:The bed was huge and so comfortable, also the bathroom was great with a separate bath and power shower. Good TV as well with HBO movies.

Review 47:The room decor hardly evokes fading Laotian royalty (check out the royal bedrooms at the National Museum in LP). Carpets for example, do not belong in the tropics as they only gather smells and stains and the one in my room had enough of both to make my stay rather unpleasant. The staff are very kind and helpful but the establishment seems to be more geared to dealing with package tourists, who come in busloads from across the border, than independent travellers.

Review 48:The kitschiness of the architecture and the wrap around terraces overlooking the tributary. Could easily be an atmospheric, fading but characterful, colonial hotel with bags of charm.

Review 49:The buffet breakfast was poor. However this depended on how many guests were staying. If the hotel is busy with busloads of guests as it was for three of the five nights we were there, and you get down to breakfast about 8 a.m., then there will be very little left and you will have to make do with bread and coffee. If there are few other guests you get to dine al a carte with a nice omelette or a range of other choices. There are no security cameras at the hotel. Maybe Pakse is so laid back there is no need!!

Review 50:The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was comfortable. The AC was a bit noisy but OK. The room was very well serviced every day with clean white sheets and soft towels. The wifi was good but a bit slow. The rooms open out onto a wrap around balcony/promenade with seating which is delightful. The building is interesting and you should stroll around the verandas, taking in the sights of the hotel and of the scenery beyond.

Review 51:Gym facilities. This is a grand old hotel in need of a refurbishment.

Review 52:Staff helpfulness. Good breakfast.

Review 53:no real buffet breakfast noise from the city

Review 54:great architecture free shuttle from the airport charming location great new rooms

Review 55:Room was very smelly

Review 56:amazing atmosphere. lovely old building and beautiful architecture. food in the restaurant was really good.

Review 57:Breakfast could have had a few more options!

Review 58:The large room with great balconies and views... And the bath tub :) in

Review 59:Convenience and classic

Review 60:Huge hotel close to the Senter , big rooms, nice and soft beds, nice staff, clean rooms, greate food!

Review 61:Rooms are good, but gives an "old" impression to me.

Review 62:A fancy hotel with a good price. Good views from the balcony

Review 63:Marble balconies, French shutters, lovely atmosphere, good value for money. Not as rundown as Lonely Planet would have you believe

Review 64:noisy air-con

Review 65:location, and clear room

Review 66:Very cold ,mostly local breakfast, with lot of flies. Most of the staff do not speak or understand English.

Review 67:very interesting building !

Review 68:the old fashion style of the hotel

Review 69:- personell not willing to help - no wifi in room, slow in reception - too far from center

Review 70:Hotel feels empty

Review 71:Room is not quiet. The hotel is old.

Review 72:it was a great feeling to stay in a historic palace. The rooms are big an clean and a good value for the money.

Review 73:Large clean room, friendly staff, the beautiful garden, breakfast was okay

Review 74:outside from room: floor not clean

Review 75:big room ,clean and comfortable, good for family ,good location, good view and I will comeback again.

Review 76:1. No tooth brush & facial tissues in room. 2. No English news channel in TV 3. Accused me of stealing small towel from room without thorough checking.

Review 77:Spacious room; comfortable bed.

Review 78:The place was not looks like a Palace ,Its looks a concrete jungle ..Rooms belong to 1980s badly maintain .Simply when you stand in the shower the shower tap is too short ....and the smell kind of old and humid .Breakfast was very limited .

Review 79:Place was in the center off the town.taxi could easily find .Reception staff was good and helpful. After all for one night stay its good value for money if you want something different.

Review 80:The rooftop bar wasn't open and I can't imagine the last time that the fountain out front was actually turned on.

Review 81:Beautiful big room with shuttered windows and a delightful seating area outside the room overlooking the courtyard. A gorgeous building.

Review 82:Breakfast not great so we asked for omelettes=excellent. No pool. Pakse has major road works underway and everywhere v dirty, dusty. Difficult to find decent restaurant.

Review 83:Room nice

Review 84:Noisy room, more noisy than average. Without earplugs we probably couldn't sleep at all. No windows in room. Bath leaked.

Review 85:Its an enormous building that really makes you feel like you're in a palace. Large room. There was a bath in the bathroom which is pretty unique for Laos hotels. Right opposite if restaurant & coffee bar Delta. Breakfast was good with enough options for both western and Asian.

Review 86:Poor restaurant! staff don't speak English. wanted pay for 3 nights although we stayed 2. We complained about strange noise during nights-staff were laughing at us! bad location surroundings dirty.

Review 87:Breakfast buffet selection was poor - eggs/omelette cooked in front of you was good.

Review 88:"Majesty" and history of the building along with the city view from the rooftop bar. Free shuttle bus to airport.

Review 89:I would stay here again! It's a fun palace to stay in. It's one of the only things to see in this city. Don't look for anything cheaper and have some fun in this prince his dream building.

Review 90:Wifi a bit tempramental. A bit of a walk from main part, and river, but doable walking. Bathroom had a strange whiff, but shutting door kept it away. Some rooms a bit noisy, but as it has so many, you can probably change.

Review 91:Large room. Breakfast ok, although fried eggs freezing cold. Asian choice was good. Fantastic premises, grounds, terraces, etc to hang out in. Gigantic hotel

Review 92:Magnificent and vast former colonial building, renovated with all modern facilities. Top terrace offers panoramic view over the city, Sedon River and surrounding landscape. Excellent value for money with a very reasonable rate including breakfast, and a free shuttle to airport. Nice welcoming staff.

Review 93:I personally will not stay in this hotel again and will not recommend to my friends.

Review 94:Cheap, close to the airport, quiet a large hotel but the room is small

Review 95:As mentioned in a previous review, we were already booked and paid for 2days for a jungle tour with another company, so Champasak Palace was ouronly option unless we cancelled, paid anyway, and had to pay somewhereelse. Read previous review for details, but again, unkempt facility, none of the amenities advertised in their brochure, and definitely not agood value for the price.

Review 96:I would recommend Pakse town as a start off point for Champasak regionadventures, but not this hotel.

Review 97:Way over priced for what we got. Denied us an airport pickup. Brochurelists tons of amenities that don't exist. Poor to no wi-fi, no saunaor gym. Shower leaked and flooded bathroom. Moldy roof and walls. Carpetwas smelly and frayed all around. Leaking a/c unit dripping onfloor. Door locks were weak and didn't fully lock. Staff notfriendly at all, no one ever said hello. We stayed in Luang Prabang andSiem Reap for half the price we paid at Champasak Palace and had doublethe service and amenities. Champasak Palace hotel was possibly the worsthotel I have ever stayed in.

Review 98:Stopping over point for jungle zipline tour. Front desk staff able toassist with phone calls. Weekend included breakfast buffet was nice.

Review 99:The sofas on first floor and the chairs outside are so bad to sit down in. They should have been destroyed long time ago. That is not worthy of a hotel like that. Change them quickly to some reasonable chairs.

Review 100:The atmosphere is fantastic. The style and old fashioned rooms are so nice.

Review 101:We booked especially this place bc of the fitness center, sauna andmassage facilities which we wanted after 2days long distance selfdriving by car from Thailand. We arrived around 3pm and were reallylooking forward to hit the gym and sauna and massage we went downstairsdressed for the gym and asked for the fitness center location and gotsome open mouth reaction from the receptionists, a few minutes later werealized why they couldn't believe that someone wants to use thegym, entering the gym hall now it was us with open mouth, a hugescrapyard with broken and torn down machines, rusty, partly disassembledand scrap parts scattered all over the very dirty place, never seenanything like that in 30years travelling, so we went ahead for the saunaand massage, checked in at the counter and paid 8$ each in cash, thesauna and showers area, you not wanna know, smelly and funghuseverywhere, no oven working, now we tried the massage and got intolittle massage rooms with ac, it looked ok but the the massage girl camein, dressed like the bar girls in th but she insisted to be specializedin vietnamese massage and started padding me like you pad a dogs headand after 5 minutes we gave it up, these girls are surely there for'special treats' so went back to the check in lady but she wasgone and nowhere to be found, so we went to see the hotel manager to getour money back, hahaha, there was no manager on duty bc out of countryfor a week and the receptionists told that the fitness center hadnothing to do with the hotel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review 102:Big room, good bed, international tv channels, quick check in

Review 103:Room and building very worn and tired not as great as once was!Breakfast not as good as other places with similar ratings. Strangesmell in bathroom and towels.

Review 104:Great staff, free wifi in lobby, free airport transfer

Review 105:My friend and I stayed chose to spend a few extra quid and stay here asit claimed to have a gym, sauna and Jacuzzi. We had been travelling fora while and wanted to use the facilities. The gym was a graveyard forold gym equipment, nothing worked. I fell off an unsecured bench and cutmy arm, thankfully I wasn't holding any weights at the time. Maybe Iwould have been if there were any. The place was filthy, there wasremains of dead lizards in the corners. Cut my losses and headed for theJacuzzi, which looked nice, pity there was no water in it!

Review 106:Staff were welcoming and helpful. Room was spacious and comfortable.

Review 107:the air con was very loud, staff in restaurant was very unfriendly

Review 108:very big room, breakfast buffet, very clean room and bath, elevator, friendly staff at the reception.

Review 109:it was tired, the staff were tired, outside not clean. rooms ok large, hard bed. breakfast average. ok for a nights stop at an ok price.

Review 119:The hotel is a huge old palace, well located at the entrance of the city, a little bit worn down.

Review 120:Resteraunt indifferent and very noisy, Wi-Fi poor Seemed full of coach parties
