Reviews for Guest House Yakushima
Review 1:Nothing. Everything is good
Review 2:Nice,clean and new guesthouse, friendly owner Hiro San always here to provide good advice and tips!! Guesthouse located very close to the nature, hear bird singing and sound of waterfalls, truly a place for reset and restart! You can rent a car for more easy traveling.
Review 3:This spot is a little paradise! Clean as a temple, tucked away in the hills, with a big beautiful kitchen for guests. Overall, excellent facilities. Fantastic owner, who is gracious and friendly. He speaks English and is learning French.
Review 4:Even though the house is new, the arrangement is a bit funny. The female dorm and the common showers are facing the front entrance and near the kitchen. So when we get out of the shower, we can be exposed to people coming in and out. The male dorm room is at the back of the house, more hidden. Maybe it would be nicer to be reverted.
Review 5:New facilities, access to complete kitchen. The female dorm room was nice and the shared bathroom and shower also new and clean. The kitchen had fridge and cooking possibility. There was supermarket not too far away (4 km away, ok to go with bus or bicycle). The owner provides a few food options for a reasonable price, if you don't care to go to the supermarket. The owner, Mr. Hiro, was nice and took time to give suggestions about places to go and how to get there. He also is very responsive to e-mails prior to arrival. The location is not near the arrival ferry stations, but anywhere you stay in the island, you depend on the local buses if you don't have a rental car, so it doesn't really matter so much the location. It is best if you plan to do hikes around the central to south of the island, as the location is towards the south. It is near bus stop (3-minute walk) and near a nice waterfall and river.
Review 6:Location is absolutely beautiful. House is built with cedar trees &smell wonderful when you enter. You can actually smell Cedar fragrance.Staff is very informative, attentive & kind. Kitchen is wonderful& you can barbecue right outside of kitchen porch ! I & my 23year old son enjoyed staying here enormously !!!I
Review 7:Location very quiet and beautiful, all other places on the island accessible by bus, the owner was extremely informative and helpful, when I had an accident he went to the hospital with me to translate and bring me back to the guesthouse!
Review 8:You need to buy day passes for the bus before you go there, cannot get them at the hostel. Closest supermarket in onoaida, 45 min walk or app. 400 yen by bus. Buses dont go often and last bus leaves onoaida at 18:20. Location is a bit off but you can do nice day hikes and/or catch the bus very early to do the main trails. There are only two buses in the morning connecting to shiratani.
Review 9:Beautiful place, new house
Review 10:Extremely helpful and friendly owner. Great new building and facilities were top notch. I would suggest people who are 2 or more in their group to get a rental car for convenience.
Review 11:Need to rely on buses as it is a bit far for some attractions. Great onsens are nearby though
Review 12:The guest house facilities The staff /owner kindness The friendly common area
Review 13:Not a bad experience but some advice - we arrive in the evening at Anbo port and missed the bus because we were buying food supplies - don't miss the bus! There are food supplies not far from the guesthouse. The taxis also dissappeared, lucky for us a very friendly local lady gave us a lift to Yakushima guest house after dropping her three small children at home... Make sure you have little gifts with you to thank people like this if they look after you when you need help.
Review 14:Hiro was the most wonderful host, giving our unprepared hike plans a lot if attention, as well as very sage advice about climbing the mountain. The guesthouse is very new, he built it a few years ago, and you can hear the bubbling stream and waterfall nearby as you drift off to sleep! We cooked ourselves lovely meals here with no fuss and set off for a wonderful hike without any hassle...
Review 15:If you don't have a car get your supplies before you come. There are limited supplies for sale so you won't starve.
Review 16:Located in a patch of forest well away from traffic, new clean helpful owner (who speaks English)
Review 17:WiFi didnt always worked in the rooms from the backhouse, but it worked well in the common/kitchen room
Review 18:really nice place with nice owner and very helpful, everything is still new and clean and it is a cool location.
Review 19:Wifi doesn't work very well in the rooms at the far end of the guesthouse.
Review 20:The cleanliness and layout, remote and secluded location but still well connected to transport. Very helpful manager, very available to give advice and suggestions for guests
Review 21:I was using the bus system so it was a little problematic to go buy food.
Review 22:Hiro san the owner was very kind and helpful and the atmosphere in the guest house was really nice.
Review 23:Nothing. Really liked the place (and Hiro)
Review 24:Hiro is very friendly and incredibly informative, especially with regards to things to do and the various hikes you can go on. The place was very clean and the beds very comfortable. There are cooking facilities which proved very useful, although the cooking rings are electric and there are only two, causing some congestion in the kitchen. We rented a car, but many other guests travelled by bus. The car was incredibly useful. The location is nicely removed from the bigger town in the north, but everything is still accessible by bus. This place came highly recommended on Booking.com, and having stayed I know why.
Review 25:No local shops or cafés. Need to rely on bus.
Review 26:Very friendly owner with excellent English. Owner very eager to assist you with any plans on the island and help you in any way. Very comfortable facilities. Beautiful location. Excellent cooking facilities.
Review 27:Beautiful surroundings, the proprietor Hiro-san is lovely and a wealth of information about the island, the guest house is clean, new and you wake up to the sound of the river running near by! Yakushima is an amazing place and this is the perfect base to experience it from. Ideal if you can rent a car, particularly if you are wanting to do any of the big treks as everything on the island is fairly far apart and the buses are not constant enough to give you enough time on the walks, as this is a wee bit away from the starts. Ideal place to stay after a long hike and you want to relax for a few days.
Review 28:New, clean, with beautiful wooden interior and a lot of space and comfort. There is kitchenware available, free drinks and instant food to purchaise. There is a lovely restaurant just 5 min walking. The english speaking owner provides you with all the info you need. Really excellent!
Review 29:Guest House Yakushima is the nicest guesthouse I have visited and I've seen many around the world. It's located between a beautiful river and a mountain (you can nicely hear the river to the terrace as you enjoy the evening with other guests). There's a beautiful waterfall and an onsen town nearby. It's easy to get here by car or public transport (bus) that takes you right there (5 min walk up hill from the bus stop) from the harbour. It's one stop after the botanic garden. Ask Hiro, he well do his best to help you come up with the most convenient stay possible. It is recommended to visit a supermarket at the harbour once you arrive since there's no grocery store next to the guest house. Can highly recommend.
Review 30:The owner was werry friendly and helpful and has some good proposals if you want to se the Island and the areas around the guestouse. And he speaks werry good english
Review 31:I was very pleased to stay at this hostel and with this very friendly host! Well, it is not located in a town but it's very close to bus station and close to Onoaida. Hiro, the very friendly host gave me many good advices for hiking and sightseeing! The hostel is absolutly new! Verything is in perfect condition!
Review 32:Not so much something we didn't like, but rent a car if you can on Yakushima. There are busses, but they stop running very early in the evening.
Review 33:This building is nearly brand new and beautifully designed. Our host Hiro was always cordial, informative, and generous with his time. He has an excellent command of English and was very helpful with our questions. He even picked us up from the store when we missed the last bus. The guest house is located nearby a rushing river gorge.
Review 34:I got a little turned around finding it at first, but that's more an issue with Google Maps. The street GHY is located on didn't appear even zoomed right in. Some friendly locals pointed me in the right direction.
Review 35:I was visiting to trek the island's mountains. GHY was the perfect place to start. Reminiscent of the mountain lodges dotting the Japan Alps but spotlessly clean, it is a treat. Even better than the facilities, the proprietor is knowledgeable about the local area and very helpful. He kindly woke early and drove me to the trailhead for my hike. Thank you!
Review 36:All good
Review 37:I liked everything so I returned for another week and it was better than the first week
Review 38:Bus timetable
Review 39:Great location
Review 40:bit far away from the main city.
Review 41:nice and clean and quiet!
Review 42:Nothing
Review 43:Beautiful location Extremely helpful owner
Review 44:Wonderful manager and aesthetic In a nice location away from the towns
Review 45:Very beautiful place and a super host. Thank you Hiro.
Review 46:The owner is really friendly and fluent in English. He was very helpful and gave great advice!
Review 47:* very friendly and helpful staff. * common room was a great way to meet new friends.
Review 48:A fantastic new guesthouse. It has been custom built and the owners have really thought things through. Plenty of bathroom facilities, spotlessly clean, fast wifi, a large well stocked kitchen area and big table for eating and chatting to other travellers. Laundry facilities available onsite as well as packet food and drinks for sale if you don't have time or can't be bothered to get to the supermarket. Hiro and Takako are both super welcoming and friendly. Hiro speaks good English and is more than happy to help if you have questions about activities on the island (or anything else!). The guesthouse is situated in a peaceful wooded area just five minutes walk from a bus stop. We found it quite possible to visit the island using only public transport, but it was necessary to be organised in advance about which bus to take - no good just turning up at the bus stop and waiting. Good quality rental bikes are also available from the guesthouse.
Review 49:Nestled near Toronoki and Serinpo waterfalls, this brand new facility is very clean and the English speaking owner, Hiro-san, is super friendly. Just a short walk from the botanical gardens bus stop and the local women owned coop udon restaurant, you'll cross two bridges with mind blowing views that are the main reason you wanted to visit the magical Island in the first place. If you are renting a car but on a budget, this place is perfect. The island, although it has a workable bus system, it's tricky to get in everything. They had new bicycles for rent on site that I used to get around in conjunction with the buses and I got to see a lot. I'm sure to stay here again next time!
Review 50:expensive, but normal for japan especially yakushima
Review 51:extremely clean. excellent hosts who helped wonderfully.
Review 52:The host was very welcoming and helped us a lot. We were only there for one day. Bonus points for the washing machine + dryer!
Review 53:Clean facility and great service
Review 54:Brand new, friendly owners, comfortable, free tea, coffee and wifi. Great value for the money
