Reviews for Tongariro Lodge
Review 1:Absolutely nothing.
Review 2:We had a fantastic stay at the Tongariro lodge. The staff were attentive and provided great tips on what to see in the local area. It was beautifully peaceful and sitting on the decking outside our chalet overlooking the river and watching the sun go down was a real treat. Great views and great location. Food was excellent. Big shout for Beckie who was a star!
Review 3:Charming hotel hidden in the forest. Good location near the river. Nice and helpful staff. Rooms are clean and have a nice view. Free laundry. Quite pricey but definitely worth going. Slow Wi-Fi but it was working.
Review 4:The check in from 2 pm. We arrived almost at 5 pm and our room still wasn't ready. In the morning during breakfast, the service wasn't great. Seems like everything and everyone is quiet slow. Too expensive for the quality of the room. The area is quiet boring too, there are not many places to even eat dinner and each of them is offering same things...
Review 5:I liked the scenery. The Lodge is located in a forest, surrounded by bush and river.
Review 6:Just a little niggle... Housekeeping need to ensure the chalets have all the supplies they should need.
Review 7:Well kept chalets with lovely views to wake up too The restaurant and lodge realms comfort and the service from all the team is excellent especially Mari who is a true asset to the venue
Review 8:Insuffient washing facility. Could not get into restaurant first night as full with no advice to book on checkin. No privacy sitting on rear deck with neighbours adjacent unit.
Review 9:Time management in the restaurant. Needs to plan at least 40mn for breakfast as even if the daily activities have been organised by the lodge, they do not manage to get all people served on time. Same story for evening diner. Better opt for buffet as a la carte takes for ever to be served. The chalets not being standalone, one may be unlucky if the neighbours have different time schedules.
Review 10:The area, the set-up close to the river and the green garden. The closeness to Tongariro crossing. The staff friendliness.
Review 11:Monotonous Christmas cd music in bar and restaurant was awful. No water turned on in room. Adjacent rooms being renovated. Was not told of this at booking.
Review 12:Good steak for dinner.
Review 13:Fishing guide Tim was very good at initial instruction but needed to take more care to avoid falls in river crossings & pre-check client health & safety issues.
Review 14:Great location but a bit overpriced.
Review 15:Amazing location right by the river, rooms were very clean and spacious. Staff were friendly. Overall we had a great stay and my partner spent all day fly fishing. We would stay here again.
Review 16:We ran out of hot water after one bath and one shower. For 400 dollars I would have expected plenty of hot water.
Review 17:Space of accommodation and the surroundings.
Review 18:Overpriced - definitely not worth $230 dollars per night No wifi in thehouse It was super cold in the house - apparently there's noheating, so better go in summer, or be prepared
Review 19:The hotel is undoubtedly good, but left with mixed feelings. Staff isdefinitely great - we showed up after hours and our booking didn'tcome through, but still they gave us large house (instead of regularcabin) - were very welcoming and polite. Location is good for skiing inWhakapapa - 30 min drive passing ski hire on the way. Breakfast is ok
Review 20:Staff very friendly and accommodating. Lit fireplace for us on chilly morning. Arranged guide for what turned out to be a very memorable river fishing trip. We also ate a lovely dinner at the lodge.
Review 21:Bed was up against the wall with no bed-head and the wall was freezing so pillow was cold too. It was hard to get warm. It said spa facilities but it is one in an outside pavilion that was locked so we couldn't use it even if we wanted to but as it was so cold outside it was very uninviting to venture out across the yard to have a spa. It didn't look very nice either. In the room there is only a bed and no lounge chairs to relax on.
Review 22:The main lodge was nice and restaurant served nice meals but they were very pricey.
Review 23:Lack of atmosphere in the bar/lounge area. We ended up eating at other places because of this...so didn't sample the much raved about food. Can't complain about anything - was difficult to get out of bed because it was so cosy! delightful!
Review 24:Comfy bed, mountain view, super warm room, the guy on front desk is wonderful, really helpful and full of advice for your exploration of the area. Also i wanted to note, we almost never booked because of a previous review stating the rooms were in need of serious update and not worth the cash...i'm not sure why they felt this way, we booked the cheapest cabin on offer and it was a wonderful stay!
Review 25:Rather expensive for such a small room with limited facilities. No view of the river. No hot pool facilities only a spa which had to be booked (not great if you get there late and have to leave early).
Review 26:Large comfortable bed and large shower. Pretty surroundings.
Review 27:Needs a bigger reception sign!!
Review 28:The quietness and peace and we enjoyed seeing lots of birds from our chalet. And we enjoyed our first attempt at fly fishing.
Review 29:The bathroom needs updating. We didn't expect to find a 1980's style bathroom with a shower over the bath. There was no easy river access. The promotional photos make it seem that there is. The bed was far too soft.
Review 30:It was off the main road, in a lovely tree setting. Very quiet and tranquil. Pleasant and helpful staff.
Review 31:Chalets are quite small, old and badly insulated (you can hear your neighbours!) Accomodation over-priced and definitely not luxurious! Nice restaurant but service and quality did not correspond to the price we paid.
Review 32:The location and the patio with a nice garden view
Review 33:We came here directly from a stay at Millbrook and the contrast in room facilities was dramatic. The chalet rooms are small, ill lit and, with no AC, incredibly hot and stuffy in summer, even with all the windows open. I appreciate it is primarily a fishing lodge but the decor is also tired & dated.
Review 34:The location is lovely and quite convenient, even to Taupo attractions. The front of house staff and chef were very helpful, albeit as they were correcting problems with housekeeping. The restaurant was very good.
Review 35:Great location for tongariro crossing. Arranged transport and a yummy lunch for us. Restaurant is also good. Close to the another good restaurant too - the river restaurant.
Review 36:No SKY TV for the money paid for 3 nights accommodation. The walls of Chalets are very thin - we heard every word and foot step from the people in next chalet (until midnight one night).
Review 37:The location
Review 38:Price too high for product. Website descriptions inaccurate (no Sky TV only freeview, no river views from rooms or restaurant). Lamb rack supplied raw but lovely after being seared. Bathroom dated. No pastries available for breakfast.
Review 39:Garden setting. Clean & tidy room. Deck with chairs & table with lovely garden view. Nice food (dinner & breakfast). Nice garden views from restaurant.
Review 40:The room is a bit old especially the toilet, and the room is quite small. The ventilation is not good, it wasn't hot during my stay but the room was very stuffy.
Review 41:Location is good and the surrounding is nice, right next to the Tongariro river. The dinning place is spacious and nicely decorated. Food was quite expensive but was nice.
Review 42:It was too cold in the room and we couldn't warm it up even with the heating on full
Review 43:The staff - very helpful and welcoming The cabin was very cute and rustic The food at the restaurant was nothing short of amazing
Review 44:Accomodation was great, we dined in the lodges restuarant for dinner after hearing great reviews but we were very underwhelmed with the quality of the food & service. However we did mention this to the staff member upon check out & she was very apologetic & compensated us for our bad experience.
Review 45:Welcome staff were awesome, cabin was good & location & views were amazing.
Review 46:The food is very good but portion sizes are for shearers. For a top class lodge the rooms and furnishings are average quality - not luxury. No SKY TV available
Review 47:Excellent location and friendly staff A good way to book a top fishing guide
Review 48:Poor Cleanliness and almost no room service you had to beg staff to empty rubbish bins and have soap and clean towels
Review 49:Location
Review 50:The location, the cleanliness of the chalet and the friendly staff.
Review 51:Spacious 3 bedroom villa, great for families, plenty of room to spread out, good decks and cooking facilities.
Review 52:Cleaning could have been a little better
Review 53:Lovely comfortable rooms and beds. Everything we needed were there
Review 54:Recommend to any young family. The things that you can do in the area and especially the staff and the lodges are fantastic. Great food.
Review 55:Very nice thanks
Review 56:The location of the lodge
Review 57:The Wi-Fi was a bit slow. And it kept showing incorrect password, needed to keep clicking JOIN.
Review 58:Great rooms and facilities. Lovely restaurant with an open fire and great food. Service was excellent with friendly helpful staff..
Review 59:Dinner service and food were good. Receptionist on Sunday great lady.
Review 60:There was not sufficient heating in the chalet for a very cold winters night
Review 61:We liked the ambiance of the main building and the big log fires.
Review 62:Nothing
Review 63:The Lodge is terrific. Great people; good food; comfortable lodging; and a great location. We liked it so much that we extended our stay.
Review 64:The staff went out of their way to make us feel at home and valued. The setting of the facility was relaxing.
Review 65:Buildings not up to the cost
Review 66:Location for fishing
Review 67:It's definitely too expensive for what it's provided, that said we were not able to utilise the spa which is a nice addition
Review 68:Friendly staff
Review 69:The food in the restaurant looked good but wasn't the best.
Review 70:The accommodation was excellent. Would have like to have stayed for a week
Review 71:This accomodation is very over priced. Chalet was described as 1 bedroom. Not true. There was only one room total. Could hear every noise in next door chalet. Cleanliness was not very good. Only 1 armchair available for watching tv or reading. And the view you see on the website is not what you see from your room. We were extremely disappointed with our stay and will not be returning and would not recommend to anyone else either. We both work very long hours and hadn't had a break for awhile so thought we would treat ourselves and have some luxury accommodation. Sadly we booked the wrong place for this as there was nothing luxurious about the accommodation. We feel as if we have been ripped off.
Review 72:The location, Staff very friendly and informative.
Review 73:There wasn't actually much to complain about if you ignore the price per night; however, at the price we feel that the room facilities were inadequate (no bar fridge, e.g.), there was a lack of attention to detail (the toilet leaked and consequently was filling constantly so we had to turn off the inlet valve at night otherwise it was too noisy; there was just one wine glass; there was some crockery (a salad bowl and one small plate) but no cutlery; all a little odd collection), from the website impression we expected a view of the countryside/river from our room but, although the small garden view we had was nice, there were trees and other plants obscuring the view and it seems the same for all the chalet rooms; the walls in the chalet don't insulate sound so we heard our neighbours talk and cough and snore later. To add insult to injury, on checking out I wanted to pay using my American Express card, but was told there would be a 2.5% charge because they could not afford it. No other place we used this credit card on our holiday in NZ charged us anything. Overall, the experience left us unimpressed and vaguely taken for a ride.
Review 74:The setting and location were both good, and the lounge had a charming atmosphere; we enjoyed the fireplace and comfy chairs. The room was comfortably large, and the gardens beautifully manicured.
Review 75:We didn't feel the room was worth what was charged. I think breakfast should have been included with this rate.
Review 76:The staff were excellent, very friendly people.
Review 77:The room on arrival was stifling hot and no air conditioning. Had to request a fan. Accommodation was cramped and decor somewhat dated!
Review 78:Lovely setting and excellent restaurant.
Review 79:Extremely helpful staff making arrangements for our shuttle to Tongariro Alpine Crossing and for an excellent fishing guide, Tim McCarthy. Food is excellent. They cooked for us one of the trout that we caught.
Review 80:Expensive for the chalet room with very little amenities - we had a young child who needed milk before bed and in the morning and we had nowhere to keep it cool as no fridge in the chalet!
Review 81:Service was great and the location was lovely. Friends were staying in the luxury houses and they were amazing with all the mod cons.
Review 82:Not much!
Review 83:A welcome bit of luxury after a few day of trekking. Liked the layout of the villas.
Review 84:Nothing special for $299 a night
Review 85:The restaurant food
Review 86:The food was excellent. The people were very friendly. The spa.
Review 87:Our family is enjoy living Tongariro Lodge,We will come again next time.
