Located in Zao Pension Village, Pension Apple features a large award-winning garden, a 24-hour indoor bath and an open-air bath that overlooks the valley. It offers bicycle rentals and a free shuttle to/from Yamagata Zao Onsen Ski Area.
Western meals are served at the dining room, and feature Yamagata-gyu beef. The Pension boasts a wide selection of good wines and cheeses from France, Italy and Germany.
Simple rooms feature a wooden wall, heating facilities and single beds. Toilets and bathrooms are shared.
Apple Pension is a 3-minute drive from Yamagata Zao Onsen Ski Area, and a 5-minute drive from Zao-Onsen Bus Terminal. Scenic mountain temple Yama-dera Temple can be visited a 40-minute drive away.

Review 1：The pension is run by a very friendly couple who go out of their way to ensure you have a comfortable stay. The pension village is about 5 minute drive from the ski area and the owner will shuttle you there if needed. Food is wonderful as is the outdoor bath. I've lived in Japan for more than 20 years so have experienced a lot of places. This is a great find.
Review 2：Is the best place that I have stayed during my Japan trip. Sato san is very friendly and generate. During my 2 night stay, there is wine and beer,cheese, fruits , home baked cookies The breakfast and dinner are really well prepared and delicious. I loved the home made bread and Yamagata beef. Although is slightly away from Zao city, this is not a problem. The host picked and send us from Zao bus terminal, ski rope way, onsen. He even brought us for the ski set rental shop. The rooms are warmth. I will hope to meet them and will surely stayed. there again.
Review 3：sato-san gave me a ride to and from the station, also to zao-onsen, he helped me in any way he could! the food was amazing! and there was wine and beer every evening.
Review 4：Very helpful and accomodating host. Great food and wine. Food was healthy, tasty and included in the price. Free shuttle bus to the slopes, leaving every 30 minutes. The host picked us up and dropped us to the bus terminal when arriving and departing. Overall a very pleasurable experience at Pension apple.
