Reviews for JR Hotel Yakushima

Review 1:No wifi in the room, only in the lobby.

Review 2:Fantastic service - omotenashi - from all the staff. The seaview from our room was lovely. Gorgeous sunset view from the onsen, and from the terrace near the lobby. Delicious dinners, and we appreciated the menus explaining what to expect.

Review 3:Wifi only in the lobby

Review 4:Outstanding food. Breakfast was very good, dinner even better. Dinner was a 10-course menu with local delicacies. We spent four nights in this hotel and had 4 different menus for dinner, which included unusual but very interesting meals. Views are fantastic, staff is very very kind and helpful. Spacious room. Excellent coin-operated laundry.

Review 5:The view was amazing, at the edge of the island, with rocky landscapes meeting the ocean and even a lighthouse... The food was of excellent quality, and the buffet breakfast was an amazing vast spread of eastern and western fare. The facilities could not have been cleaner (I am certain of this). The onsen was fabulous. The staff was very eager to be helpful (even with limited English), and their patience with me (as a very limited Japanese speaker) was amazing -- above and beyond. They even have a souvenir shop that is outstanding with an array of low and high end items. The front desk has a ton of information on local tour/hiking options, bus timetables, maps, etc.

Review 6:For a so-called 'chain' hotel, JR Hotel Yakushima surpassed our expectations. Staff were eager to help, their limited English was no real problem as they had written Q&As all on hand. Examples: When our travel adapter broke, one staff helped called around to see if they could locate one for us; and when they couldn't, offered to loan me a phone charger. Another time, I came back barefoot from trek (having taken off my sodden shoes), and a caring lobby staff promptly appeared with slippers. Like all the residents of Yakushima, their hospitality was genuine and caring. Breakfast and dinner (both Japanese-style) were good quality and filling (and this is is coming from two fussy foodies), and the spectacular view is truly par none - we had a view of the mountain meeting the sea. The onsen is a must-experience. The rooms were spacious for Japan, thoughtfully stocked for the hiking traveller (down to shoe-dryers), and so laid-back/restful we could have hung out all day.

Review 7:Location for seeing the sights is a bit of a pain if you're relying on local bus service as there is only about 1 an hour but it does stop at the front door. Would hire a car for another visit but wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.

Review 8:Stayed for 4 nights, while most staff had a basic (if any) knowledge of English they went out of their way to help and make themselves understood. Facilities and rooms were excellent and the views from the rooms I had were stunning. Food at the restaurant is excellent. Staff go as far as waving to departing guests until car has disappeared round the bend. Stayed in many other hotels in Japan and received excellent service at most places but these guys surpassed anywhere else I stayed by a long way.

Review 9:Hotel is a little isolated. You will need a car to get around the island.

Review 10:Lovely clean, newly renovated guestrooms (early 2014). We had a great view over the ocean. Onsen was nice and clean. Good breakfast selection. Bus to Anbo port stops outside the hotel (takes about 30 minutes to get to the port) and costs 670 YEN.

Review 11:Nothing. Would have been good to have internet in the room.

Review 12:Warm, friendly and helpful staff who are efficient and organized. Loved the location of the building as all rooms have interesting views of the sea or dramatic mountains. The rooms are bright and light and the restaurant is extremely well run and the food is good. The dinners are Japanese style. Also liked the coin op laundry and the fast internet in the lobby.

Review 13:Outrageously overpriced, especially dinner. We have stayed at some of the nicest hotels across the world and this hotel compares in price only.

Review 14:Very nice hotel, basic, clean, beautiful views.

Review 15:WiFi in the room would be perfect

Review 16:Service, food, access, ocean view

Review 17:The lunchbox offered was quite plain for the cost (600yen) charged

Review 31:None.

Review 32:Excellent clean good sized rooms with staff that really make your stay most pleasant. The food was fantastic. The room view of the ocean was a sight to behold.

Review 33:The price was expensive and it was a long way from the ferry terminal. This place would be excellent if you speak Japanese, but was very challenging when the hotel staff did not speak any English and we did not speak much Japanese.

Review 34:The view from the hotel room was picturesque and the onsen was perfect! The hotel staff was very friendly, even though they did not speak any English. The food at the hotel restaurant is amazing!
