Reviews for Albergo Milano

Review 1:The staff was so very nice and helpful. Great location, awesome breakfast and comfy old world accommodations. Loved having a drink in the Parlor/Library room in the evenings

Review 2:We had a comfortable room, rather small, but with a stunning view of the lake. Breakfast was amazing, simply delicious. I would definitely stay here again.

Review 3:Leaving. We really didn't want to go! Avoid El sole restaurant and go to Victoria across the street. Better value and excellent food.

Review 4:What a place. We stayed in Casa Rosa and it was the best place we have been so far on our travels. The view is amazing. Excellent responses from chiara. Overall a fabulous place. Book it

Review 5:There's not anything I did not like about this hotel and I am a picky person!

Review 6:The view was amazing. The staff very friendly and breakfast was really nice too.

Review 7:just perfect in every way. easy to get ferry to other towns on the lake. do catch a cab from the railway station if coming in at night but easily walk back up the hill during the day when you know where you're going.

Review 8:Everyone should be aware that varenna is a town of steep steps. If you have any difficulty walking this is not the place for you. If you come by car you should call before parking so you know how to get luggage to the hotel. There is no elevator in the hotel. One must carry ones own luggage up the stairs.

Review 9:Staff was terrific and quite helpful. The hotel is well located. The restaurant is great as is the ambiance. Breakfast was great.

Review 10:At this hotel (and everywhere else in Varenna and nearby Bellagio) you need to be able to handle lots of stairs.

Review 11:What a location! Great views and perfect small town to experience Lake Como. Room was large (by European standards) and breakfast was great. Stayed in the annex, only a two minute walk to the main hotel. Three minute walk to ferry docks and one minute to a series of restaurants, bars and Gelato places.

Review 12:WIFI service in the room was a little unpredictable and slow.

Review 13:Family business. Staff and Bettina (owner) were great. Location is ideal for enjoying the central part of Como. Extremely easy to use the ferry for visiting local attractions.

Review 14:Breakfast was delicious, the staff was all so friendly and helpful. Easy walk to shops, restaurants and the lake. Staff gave us directions to the old castle hike and another day, to an old mule path hike. The dinner menu is outstanding!

Review 15:We stayed 4 nights but were unable to book dinner until the final night, due to weather, closed day and private function. Far too many tables packed onto terrace for dinner and consequently it was impossible to access the seat due to space and a chair with arms. Piped music too loud. Management staff rude and abusive when situation brought to their attention, not only to us but to their own staff. Sadly we did not eat dinner on this wonderful terrace which is a reason for booking this hotel. Disappointing, spoilt our stay in Varenna

Review 16:Stunning location with breathtaking terrace Small room comfortable and small lake view balcony very pleasant

Review 17:There were lots of stairs up to the hotel, but a member of the staff came down to help me will my suitcase.

Review 18:The view from my room was spectacular and the location was great.

Review 19:Some might be put off by the stairs and quaint nature of this property. I found it charming.

Review 20:Great location between the square and the ferry. Tremendous views. The owner and the staff are great and were very helpful.

Review 21:very unhelpful and unfriendly staff

Review 22:Location was excellent and the room, although small was well appointed with a small terrace and amazing views. The only let down of this little gem was the staff. Needed help getting a bag up 3 flights of steps and this posed a huge inconvenience for them. After traveling for 8 hours that day we felt it wasn't an unreasonable request to make. The breakfast was very disappointing with not much choice taking into consideration the price you pay.

Review 23:There was no wifi. The refrigerator had an awful smell so we did not use it. The apt itself had a musty smell, but seemed clean. There was no view of the lake with windows facing the street, so some noise.

Review 24:The location of the hotel is excellent! Only steps to restaurants, gelato, small beach and kids play area and close to ferry. We stayed in Casa Giallo which was a two bedroom, 1.5 bedroom apt. with a small kitchen. It was more space than we expected. Perfect for a family of 4. Rooms were clean and tidy.

Review 25:Wi-fi was spotty.

Review 26:We stayed in Casa Rossa in a small double - the balcony was amazing! And breakfast every morning on terrace, as well as the night we had dinner there. Staff provided great recommendations and spoke excellent english.

Review 27:The hotel doesn't have air conditioning, probably because the building is very old, but there was a ceiling fan, so it was ok.

Review 28:Albergo Milano is located in old house with great view ove lake Como. Our room was not very big, but it had balcony with lake view and was really nice. Restaurant in the hotel is a bit expensive (gourmet), but we had the most romantic dinner during sunset and everything was super delicious! Dessert was wow! Great experience! The staff, especially at the reception, was extremely helpful all the time.

Review 29:It was very hot and they need to get air conditioning. Also, the apartment had no wifi and we had to walk to the hotel every time to get wifi.

Review 30:The bed was very comfortable, the restaurant was fantastic (food and view), our room was very nice (Casa Tre Archi apartment), friendly staff

Review 31:Very warm time of year to travel to Lake Como. No air conditioning made sleeping unpleasant. Stayed in one of their apartments. Had a backpack sitting on the kitchen table with some gum in it. Ants were everywhere the morning after.

Review 32:Nice big apartment with patio.

Review 33:No air Conditioning in room Bedroom very small not suitable to stay in Wi Fi to slow

Review 34:Shower excellent Views from bedroom and balcony Excellent Views from Restaurant Excellent Staff helpfull

Review 35:Curtains need to be slightly heavier to block out more light especially for those who sleep lightly, and wifi could be a bit slow at times.

Review 36:Best location, and dinner was simply divine here. So fresh and the quality was amazing. Would like to return if for no other reason than the eat more! Rooms very comfortable and clean. Good views from the lake.

Review 37:We didn't dislike it, but there is a small spiral staircase to the bedroom. We didn't realize that the aparmtnent was on two floors.

Review 38:The location was great, although no views of the lake except when on the small balcony off the kitchen. The beds were comfortable and the apartment was very clean. It's less than a minute to walk to the main hotel building. We had two amazing evenings at the hotel restaurant. The views, food and service were outstanding!

Review 39:I didn’t manage to dine here during my 3 day visit as it was fully booked the day I arrived and closed on another evening. The breakfast was OK, although the choice of bread available wasn’t brilliant; it would have been even better on the first morning if they had restocked some of the items that had run out half an hour before the end of service.

Review 40:The staff were welcoming and the room was delightful: a clean, spare design but comfortable and with character and the ‘partial lake view’ was much more generous than I expected, especially when it’s warm enough to sit out on the little balcony. The hotel has a wonderful position with a stunning terrace view over the lake. The only tiny downside is that the dining room and terrace are eating areas, so although you can sit and enjoy the view they will at some point need to be laid up for the next meal. Probably more of an issue in cold weather (as during my visit) when you want to sit inside. No lift but staff will happily run up and down the stairs with your luggage.

Review 41:Honestly not the largest of rooms, but I still think it's a great value

Review 42:Staff was very helpful in guiding us around Lake Como and our balcony view of the lake was perfect. I highly recommend dinner at their restaurant overlooking the lake.

Review 43:The staff was very friendly and nice. We had reserved a Terrace room, but since no one was in the Balcony room, they gave us a free upgrade. We had indicated that we were looking for places to hike, and they gave us a map with great ideas on where to go and how to get back. The hotel and the area was gorgeous!

Review 44:Our room was cramped and the lounge / library area was also rather small.

Review 45:View of Lake Como and the setting of the hotel which has some character and style. Varenna was a nice quiet village with plenty of restaurants. Also accessible by train from Milan and elsewhere.

Review 46:Expect many Americans. Not that I am anti-patriotic but the three moms next to us at dinner discussing Elsa from Frozen really took away from the Italian getaway experience.

Review 47:The views were amazing. We felt like we were right in the center of the action but also in our own little oasis.

Review 48:Despite advertising free WiFi for the Casa Rossa annex to the property, the Internet never worked. There was a network, but no Internet access.

Review 49:The room was great. It had a phenomenal view and the room was reasonably sized. Great updated bathroom! The balcony was great.

Review 50:Although the hotel was functional for basic amenities, our room was small with a partial lake view. We were very late planning our stay,so the best rooms (full lake view)were booked.

Review 51:The Albergo Milano Hotel turned out to be a quiet and clean place to stay in Varenna. We were there at the end of March,so Opening season was a week away.

Review 52:Everything was perfect. Only thing not to like was that we could not stay longer.

Review 53:My husband and I spent three wonderful days and nights at Albergo Milano in Varenna on Lake Como as part of our 30th wedding anniversary trip to Venice/Lake Como/Switzerland. Varenna was perfect after 4 days in Venice. Even thought is was over cast with occasional rain (March), we loved the view of the lake from our room and exploring Varenna, Bellagio and Menaggio. The staff and owners were great and made recommendations and reservation for two extraordinary restaurants (theirs did not open until April). The breakfast in the dining room and patio overlooking the lake was a tasty, leisurely way to start the day. We would definitely go back and recommend it for others.

Review 54:The location of this hotel is perfect. Its a 10 minute walk from the Varenna train station and it is located on the lake with quick access to the ferry and restaurants. The staff was kind and helpful. The breakfast was great and the view is just unbeatable. This quiet town is the perfect place to stay for a relaxing getaway! The rooms are small but honestly you shouldn't want to spend too much time in your room when you're in a place like this!

Review 55:the position of the hotel is superb, when we arrived we were upgraded to the best room in the hotel as it was the end of the season - what a terrace and what a view! the staff were lovely and helpful and the breakfast was delicious and had lots of choices. we were very lucky but know that any room in this hotel would be great. ps the bed was really comfy.

Review 56:There is no parking, so you can either pay the exterminate rate in the town car park or - as the owner kindly advised us - drive to the edge of the town and park for free in the area marked with white lines, which we did. So, not a problem, just a minor inconvenience. Unfortunately, there was a bit of a cat smell in the public areas, as the hotel cat roams freely there.

Review 57:The view from the dining-room is amazing, right across Lake Como, and the weather during our stay was perfect. There is a cosy public area behind reception. Our room was very nice with an excellent and when the description said it was a room with a 'limited view' of the lake, we expected a postage stamp, but, in fact, it had a small balcony to one side of the hotel which still had a considerable view of the lake. The owners who run the hotel were extremely polite and helpful - we would have liked to have dinner there, but unfortunately it is only available on three evenings in the week. However, there are plenty of other restaurants in Varenna, so we ate out instead. Breakfast was great, with a fantastic view of the Lake, and plenty of good food, including cake, as well as the usual bread/ham/cheese suspects.

Review 58:Hotel did not give us the room we reserved and, when we complained, we were subjected to a level of unpleasantness no one should endure. Dishonest.

Review 59:Charming property in lovely location.

Review 60:Bit difficult access-wise with the luggage because of the lack of road access. Apartment wouldn't be suitable for people with mobility issues because of the narrow winding staircase.

Review 61:We stayed in the apartment 3 archi - obviously not quite as convenient as being in the main building but having the extra space and being able to read on our private terrace made up for that.

Review 62:Stairs are challenging if you have joint or weight issues. Rooms are tight Parking is a hike

Review 63:Great view from the room Great view from dinner area Good food Good prices Great staff Travel light or you will find accommodations challenging

Review 64:I wish there was Internet in the apartment.

Review 65:We stayed at Casa Giala. It did not have a lake view but the bed, bedding and pillows were heavenly. We could hear the gentle waves of the lake from the bedroom which was soothing. Nice to have a living room and kitchen although with all the good restaurants around we did not use it.

Review 66:The location was excellent. The staff that we interacted with was very professional and nice. The view from Casa Rossa was spectacular.

Review 67:Access to room, size of room

Review 68:Staff,location,food

Review 69:Beautiful location, spectacular views from our room

Review 70:Stunning lakefront room with amazing views. The restaurant was fabulous.

Review 71:The hotel has a beautiful view of the lake and is perfectly located to everything in Varenna.

Review 79:The view was amazing, as wasnthe lication, breakfast, and service.

Review 80:No wi-fi No conditioning

Review 82:WiFi

Review 83:Everything else - location, view, recommendations

Review 84:Wifi was spotty in the room but ok in the lobby

Review 85:Location, friendliness of staff

Review 86:The view from the hotel is stunning even in the misty rain. The restaurant for dinner was superb.

Review 87:Wifi is slow

Review 88:Perfect view of the Lake - suited in a very cosy City - most recommendable

Review 89:Better wifi connection, other than all Italian TV

Review 90:The views

Review 91:Staff. Restaurant, La Vista, was wonderful.

Review 92:Great location and the view from the room was wonderful. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 93:Wifi was ok. But if it could be faster, that would be perfect!

Review 94:I like the location and view. The breakfast was very nice!

Review 95:The view was amazing! Beds were comfy. Nice room and friendly staff. Perfect location.

Review 96:We loved the view from our room as well as from the restaurant. The breakfast was amazing.

Review 97:I liked everything !!

Review 98:Breakfast was delicious with nice view of the lake. Staff were very considerate.

Review 99:Nothing.

Review 100:The room was very nice and clean. The view from our balcony was breathtaking.

Review 101:If arriving by car or with heavy luggage access is difficult ( as it is with many properties in Varenna )

Review 102:Food,proprietors and staff, lake views

Review 103:The staff was very helpful and competent, the breakfast was excellent and the room was clean and bright.

Review 104:Breakfast Good beds Ideal location for Varenna

Review 105:Leaving

Review 106:Everything

Review 107:The property had a great view and one of the best restaurant's around town.

Review 108:No wireless in our apartment which was a surprise. You can get connected in the lobby though but it should have been noted in the booking. The restaurant ambiance with the view was stunning but food only ok (my pasta was not al dente...).

Review 109:The location was excellent. Varenna is stunning and so is the view from the hotel (some rooms and the restaurant). Staff was helpful and friendly. We stayed in apartment with a deck and kitchen. The apartment had simple décor. If you don't expect luxury, it is nice.

Review 110:price is pit high with different locations (50mters)

Review 111:it is not easy to reach the hotel location especially if you have older parents... I would recommended the city itself for half day... Thanks

Review 112:It would have been nice to have had a better view of the lake. It was nice to be able to use the hotel patio for internet and a great view.

Review 113:Staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and the breakfast was excellent. I would highly recommend this hotel!

Review 114:Although Albergo Milano is efficiently run, it would be more enjoyable if true personal interest towards the guests was displayed.

Review 115:Abergo milano was very organized and well kept. The room in Casa Rosa was very comfortable, although on the smaller size. Pack light as there are many steps in Varrena. The breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit, prosciutto, croissants and cappuccino. The area of the hotel is very convenient as everything is in walking distance of the town.

Review 116:We stayed in the apt nearby, the beds were a little hard for me, but didn't bother my wife. After I figured out that I could close the shutters, the street light and the car noise was blocked out. The restaurant has a 3 euro PP service charge, first time I have seen that. I'm used to tipping and that's not often required in Italy, so not a big deal.

Review 117:The food was good and the views were great. Everyone spoke English, which was a big help. They were very helpful with directions and fun things to do. The Apt. we stayed in would be nice for family's, or if you were staying longer. It had a kitchen and two floors

Review 118:nothing

Review 119:A lovely welcome and friendly helpful staff. Setting is just beautiful and our partial lake view was still superb with a little balcony. We were offered a full lake view on arrival but were quite happy with what we had booked. Evening meal on the terrace with blankets provided for the chill when the sun went down. Food great and the whole atmosphere quite special.

Review 120:The room was fantastic and had everything I needed. However, a word of warning for more picky travelers....the beds are VERY firm (throughout Europe, not just this location). I also could hear the snoring of the man next door to me. I think he was an exceptionally loud snorer, but the walls do not hide a lot of sound. These were not deterrents for me, but might be issues for other people.

Review 121:They staff was not only exceptionally helpful, they were very welcoming. They also spoke fantastic English, which was helpful. There was a train strike happening while I was there and the hotel owner helped me figure out the best scenario for getting back to Milan to catch my flight. Instead of taking a train from Varenna, I took the 'slow boat' to the city of Como, where my options were much greater. The recommendation of taking the 'slow boat' as opposed to the 'fast boat', was the best part of my trip in Lake Como:) There is a great restaurant at the hotel with an impeccable view of Lake Como. I would stay at this location again for sure and highly recommend it.

Review 122:The innkeepers and staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. The views are magnificent, and the breakfast selections are well-chosen,abundant, and served in the beautiful dining room overlooking Lake Como. When I discovered that I had brought the wrong electrical adaptor, thehotel provided me one no sooner had I mentioned it

Review 123:Cannot think of anything that could be an improvement.

Review 124:Could not have been better! An absolute delight and everything has been thought of for the guests convenience and enjoyment. Perfect in every way.

Review 125:We had no negative feed back. All was just what we wanted

Review 126:We both loved the apartment ,it had everything what we wanted. Excellent kitchen the heating was great especially when we came from the cold and come back to our apartment. The shops and restaurants are very close. Also close to the railway station just 10 minutes walk. The location is breathtaking such beautiful place to stay. Would we come back?? FOR SURE Good luck and best wishes , keep up your splendid work Robert
