Reviews for Rio Arade Algarve Manor House

Review 1:We Loved Everything! This charming B&B in Mexilhoeira da Carregação is perfectly located to explore the western Algarve. We stayed here with friends for 5 nights during the 2nd week in September 2015. Very Tranquil and peaceful. The courtyard and pool area is lovely, and was rarely used by the other guests while we were there. Bedrooms & bathrooms were clean and in good order.Lovely crisp cotton sheets. The continental breakfasts were fresh and plentiful being constantly refreshed. There were even freshly made omelettes & boiled eggs on request. Despite my gluten intolerance there was always more than enough to eat. Thanks to Carlos, Paula and housekeeper Svetlana who we named 'the lady who does everything' for looking after us so well. We didn't need to Hire a car as we found the Bus & Taxi's very reasonable (and drivers helpful and knowledgable). We explored Portimao, Silves, Alvor and the Men even went Golfing up the road by Taxi.Though we didn't visit till the following week (when we had moved on to Carvoeiro) Ferragudo is also nearby and a lovely place to go for a wander in the cooler evening air - we had our best starter there (piri piri prawns) at O Barril in the square. The local bars & restaurants were excellent value for Money - O Calvario we visited twice both times under £60 Euro's for the 4 of us, The Village Inn with the lovely Canadian Kathy, the cafe Next door to the Village Inn, where on our 1st lunchtime we ate copious amounts of fresh fried baby bream , tomato salad, chips, tomato rice & chorizo followed by melon...and helped down with beer and orange juice for the grand total of 25 Euros. Fab Holiday...we hope to return soon !

Review 3:Went on a business trip and had stayed here before so no hesitation in booking again. Was even better this time ( maybe the weather helped this) The room was spotless clean, the bed was comfy, the courtyard was amazing to sit out in by the pool. great price too and handy location for my business in Portimao. Kudos to you guys for a great stay. will definitely be back.

Review 4:Excelent place in the countryside. This is not a place for those who like big touristic clouds. If you travel with car, you can easily get to nearest places like Lagos. We realy enjoy staying in this guest house. Beautiful garden with small pool snd sunbeds, breakfast in the garden. Good breakfast with great coffee, fresh juices, fruits and fruit salad. Hope to visit again some day.

Review 5:Made to feel very welcome by the Friendly owner and staff. The Property was very neat and clean and clean towels were supplied daily. It was a quiet and relaxing property ideal for those wanting to avoid the noisy hustle and bustle of many tourist destinations.

Review 6:actually no reasons to complain at all.

Review 7:Atmosphere, garden, where you could have your breakfast, location, very friendly and professional staff. I strongly reccomend this hotel for anyone, who looks for a calm place, not in the busy touristic zone, but with a short driving distance to nice places on the coast.

Review 8:Could be more luxurious given that it's in Algarve, but would stay there again in a blink of an eye.

Review 9:Overall it was a great place to stay. It's close to Portimão and to the N125 road which connects the entire Algarve region. The house has a nice ambiance and it is a good experience of feeling at home and not at a regular Hotel.

Review 10:would have been good to have tea-making facilities in the bedroom; breakfast could have been a little more interesting

Review 11:very helpful staff who tried their utmost to help; the peace and quiet of the place; the honesty bar

Review 12:Nothing to dislike. January probably not the best month to fully appreciate this interesting old manor house.

Review 13:A delight hidden behind the facade and lace curtains. Carlos & co most welcoming, helpful with information about local restaurants, etc. The breakfast was absolutely magnificent, considering it was January and there were few guests to cater for.

Review 14:There was nothing not to like.

Review 15:From the moment the doors were opened to us from the time we left two days later, every minute spent there was just great. Knowledgeable staff told us about what was on around the area, where to go and were so helpful. The breakfast was really good with lots of choice and nothing too much bother to get organised. Afternoon tea was also thrown in as well as breakfast in the price of the room. Our room was big, spacious and had it's own large verandah. An 'honour' bar helped us enjoy the late afternoon sun set. We are so impressed we've told lots of friends and we are going back for another two night stay at the end of the month. Thank you everone at Rio Arade Manor Hotel.

Review 16:Rio Arade - what a treasure to find! A huge thanks to Carlos for his wonderful hospitality, he couldn't have done any more to make our stay any more amazing. A really beautiful house with a fabulous secluded garden in full bloom with the added bonus of a lovely swimming pool. Our room was delightful and comfortable and breakfast was lovely also. We had a wonderful meal in The Village Inn a very short stroll from Rio Arade - not to be missed either. The only down side was that we could not stay longer but we will definitely be back. Thanks again for the great memories and look forward to making some more as soon as possible. M&G Wolahan

Review 17:The welcome was warm and friendly. The advice was always excellent. It was like being a paying guest at a friends house. We had the best time and not in out wildest dreams would we have expected such a stay given the prices which was amazing value for money.

Review 18:We had an absolutely fabulous stay at Rio Arade. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I would give it 10/10 already booked it for our holiday next year!

Review 19:Rio Arade Manor House is a place to wind down and chill out. Simply relaxing with no fuss. Portimão, beaches, restaurants are close by. Staff very helpfull and friendly. Really loved it.

Review 20:There was nothing to dislike. The place is a haven for rest and relaxation.

Review 21:The way the manager looked after us. The (elderly) owner was very helpful and knowledgeable about the locale.

Review 22:Nothing!

Review 23:I stayed here for a weekend in October and from start to finish it was hands down the best accommodation I have stayed in on the Algarve on my many visits. My sat nav sent me the wrong way while travelling to it so I called them and Carlos at reception was brilliant, so much so that he drove down to meet me and bring me to the complex. I say complex because that's what it is. It has a central courtyard with swimming pool and chairs and table well positioned for each guest to dine outside. The room was more like a comfortable cottage with huge comfy bed, fridge, air con, great shower to name but a few facilities. The staff are amazing and really care about the guests and make you feel very welcome and John the owner was very genuine and welcoming and very helpful to me as I was looking to buy property in the area. Very well located and 5 min drive to Portimao. I cannot say enough about my experience here and will definitely be staying here again, Kudos to John, Carlos and all at Rio Arade!

Review 24:I recently spent four nights at this charming hotel in the former house of the mayor and we hated to leave. Carlos was a delightful host and couldn't do enough for us. The property is even more charming than the pictures. My favorite part was having breakfast every morning on the patio by the pool. Or lounging by pool before supper. Although we didn't stay visit any other hotels in the Algarve, my sense is that many local accommodations lack the flavor of Portugal. At Rio Arade you know you couldn't be anywhere else. When I return to the Algarve, it will be directly to Rio Arade Manor House.

Review 25:Unique charm and character of manor property plus friendliness of staff; every effort was made to make me feel welcome and comfortable.

Review 26:Beautiful building, very nice interiors! You enter into a completely different world after crossing the door!

Review 27:Very friendly atmosphere, very nice room and garden view (with pool). Good value for money!! Everything were perfect!

Review 28:Lovely house, clean and comfortable. Nice people at reception and breakfast. Very good breakfast

Review 29:Friendly staff, beautiful building. Would go back if visiting the area again.

Review 30:Not possible open window at night downstairs because of the noise .so little bit hard to breath at night.

Review 31:The owners are really nice.

Review 32:Excellent service and very helpful staff.

Review 33:A bit far from the main beachs

Review 34:Very nice and helpful staff

Review 35:Staff and owner very friendly and helpful

Review 36:V nice courtyard area , charming staff

Review 37:We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rio Arade and hope to return soon. Thank you for your hospitality and knowledge on the area

Review 38:Friendliness and availability of the owner. Genuine and relaxing accommodation for the Algarve, outside the holiday hotel cliché.

Review 39:Room was a little cold but we were given an extra heater so problem solved!

Review 40:The couple looking after the b&b were lovely and very welcoming

Review 41:Historical atmosphere, helpful staff, nice garden.

Review 42:leaving

Review 43:Value Cleanliness Very Helpful

Review 44:Wifi very weak all over the building & rooms. In the court yard it's ok. Breakfast was sufficient but it is Aldi/Lidl quallity. Is it not possible beiing in the heart of the Algarve to present local products? Coffee was a horable filter coffee. Again how is this possible while Portugal has beautiful coffe brands as; Nicola, Sical, Buoundi?

Review 45:No TV @ the room. Bathroom smelled badly.

Review 46:Breakfast is very very poor, I never seen anything like this. One bread per each person is ridiculous specially for the price what we paid. Also not modern at all, towels are ripped and no teli on the room. Housekeeper did not knock the door before she come into room after she never come back for the rest days.

Review 47:Our room was very big and we had small fridge in the room which is very useful in warm days. Garden is lovely.

Review 48:My wife, Rita, and I have no complaints.

Review 49:Rio Arade has such great character and charm and Carlos and John are most welcoming and helpful at all times. The location is brilliant with so much to do nearby. The adjacent Ferragudo and Carvoeiro are particularly nice with excellent restaurants. Lagos, Portimao are also very good to visit and only a few minutes away. The weather is always good in Apr, as it was on our 2 previous visits to Rio Arade. Honesty bar\self service bar is a novel idea also.

Review 50:the rooms need some reform but overall it is a great value for money. We missed some variety in the breakfast.

Review 51:Very friendly staff, the house is very cosy. It has a lovely yard perfect for breakfast/tea time. It has a good location - if you have a car you're close to some great beaches.

Review 52:Nothing

Review 53:Very relaxing stay, quiet with a lovely pool and sunbathing area. Friendly staff who went out of their way to make sure our stay was comfortable.

Review 54:Bedding too small for the bed !! Smell of smoke in the room on arrival, no glass/cups in room, no TV in room, parking on roadside.

Review 55:Carlos was very efficient and friendly. Great that pets allowed but nowhere really to walk them. Nice breakfast. Very reasonable price. Quiet

Review 56:The hotel was small and extremely well presented. The owner, John, and staff were helpful and very caring. Nothing was too much trouble for them. An excellent small hotel for a wonderful break from the daily grind.

Review 57:Location was a little isolated and in a rather shabby area. Needed a car to go anywhere and little in restaurant choices. Expensive compared to other properties we have stayed.

Review 58:Well set up property with a nice pool area and surrounds. Helpful host who offered assistance when requested.

Review 59:I'm being very picky, but the coffee wasn't the best. However, you're spoilt for choice to find a great coffee in Portugal.

Review 60:We had a fabulous stay at Rio Arade. The house and grounds were beautiful and very well kept. The room was comfortable and spacious, all around a perfect escape from a day touring the Algarve. The location is very convenient if you have a car.

Review 61:First of all, a great staff. John and Carlos are true gentlemen with positive spirit and always with an excellent recommendation for restaurants and sightseeing. We've had a quiet room with the view over the beautiful garden with a pool. Location is very good for those with a car available, so they could visit Ferragudo, Portimao, Alvor, etc. There are some excellent beaches within 15 minute drive. We have really felt at home.

Review 62:Hot water was a bit hit and miss. No visible recycling. Very minor points - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Review 63:Made to feel very welcome by the owners, at times it felt like we were staying in our own villa such was the peace and tranquility of enjoying the pool area. Breakfast was good and nice to be able to enjoy it outside. Perfect spot to relax whilst being a bus/taxi ride from the lively surrounding areas.

Review 64:I happened to get a "hard-ish" un-even old pillow. Small minor that couldn't spoiled our beautiful stayed.

Review 65:This little charming place ticks all the right boxes. Beautifully renovated manor house, spotless, sufficient facilities and reasonable price, beautiful garden & swimming pool, and functional honesty bar. It offers simple but good selection of breakfast (cold cuts, cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cheese, toast and eggs). The owner, John, was attending every table with personal greeting, and if he could be of any further help. He paid fully attention to every single guest. From the moment we arrived, he gave details explanation about the house, also provided us with information & tips about the area, sight to see, selection of fantastic restaurants nearby (as the house don't offer lunch/dinner). If you are interested of being a traveller (not a tourist) he will offer you various suggestion of local beaches & places that only be visited by mostly locals. John and his staff are very pleasant and professional. The room is in average size, comfortable, well furnished, super clean. We aren't overly fond of the quaint village of Estombar. Nevertheless, the location of the house is quite ideal. 20 mins to Lagos, 25 mins to Albufeira, 45 mins to Aljezur, 35 mins to Faro Airport. A car is necessary as public transport isn't quite convenient. Overall, great feeling of great place. We'll definitely recommend this place for anyone who travel without children.

Review 66:Not much in surroundings, eating facilities in village were poor. Absolutely need a car

Review 67:Building, rooms and garden were fantastic. Staff and owner were very friendly

Review 68:Due to location we would strongly suggest a hire car so that you can explore the amazing local beaches. Unfortunately there is not many places to eat within walking distance. But BYO on the balcony is always a good option.

Review 69:From start to finish my partner and I enjoyed our stay. We were well looked after and John and his staff were always more than happy to help.

Review 70:You would need a car to enjoy the area as the village is small and unassuming.

Review 71:Lovely en-suite rooms, great pool/garden, v. comfortable residents lounge, lovely old building, welcoming and helpful staff.

Review 72:This survey is very restricted in the choice of descriptors for a placelike Rio Arade Algarve Manor which is a a real treasure. However, toprovide a balance I will comment on the village surroundings. It is inwhat was a working village which, like many areas of the Algarve, hassuffered badly from recessionary impact and is not in picture postcardcondition and may not be to everyones liking. That said, all essentialfacilities are immediately available.

Review 73:Rio Arade Algarve Manor has a unique flavour about it. A beautifllyrestored old Manor House in a village setting, it is well appointed witha friendly welcoming owner and staff who are always willing to help. Wedid not have a car but access to the surrounding area is easy by eitherbus or train and local taxis are relatively inexpensive. A stay there itrepresents excellent value for money and it was a joy to stay there. Fora traveller in the area I would recommend Roi Arade Manor as anexcellent base.

Review 74:A good value bed and breakfast manor house. The owners John and Carlos were very welcoming and helpful in helping us with day trips/ directions. A very pleasant stay.

Review 75:Beds were a little hard for me but not my partner but that is down to personal preference.

Review 76:John the owner was extremely friendly and helpful. Service was unobtrusive but good. Our room had the most amazing private terrace with bougainvillea running the length of it. The house was beautiful and very well cared for. Swimming pool was a nice touch.

Review 77:Would recommend this house with just a couple of simple improvements

Review 78:Lovely place, lacks the facility to make a cup of tea, coffee etc. Has an honesty bar so not hard to add teas etc A Tvin the rooms would also be good for the wet and rainy days we experienced

Review 79:Lacked any facilities to make/obtain a hot drink during day, breakfast buffet could be made more interesting with a little variety.

Review 80:Rio Arade has simple old world charm with tranquil atmosphere and lovely garden terraces & Pool area. Located in the heart of village on outskirts of the large town of Portimao, ideal for touring & exploring the Algarve but own transport essential.

Review 81:Internet access in lobby only. Our room was nearby a road and it was sometimes a little bit noisy.

Review 82:Fantastic location .Good place to start exploring the area.Very friendly and helpful staff, they also suggest us nice places. The room was really comfortable , very spacious and lovely decorated. It was a very relaxing stay.

Review 83:Our bed was a little too firm for us.

Review 84:Estombar might not be the prettiest location but a wonderful surprise awaits when you step through the door of Rio Arade Algarve Manor House. Our room was lovely and the delightful courtyard garden was ablaze with colour from bougainvillea and potted plants - a peaceful place to sit and read or have a swim and sunbathe. John is an excellent host and recommended several places to eat locally - he also provides a very good breakfast! Easy parking on street outside. We would definitely visit again.

Review 85:The main building was unusual; full of character and tastefully decorated. The courtyard and swimming pool area was very attractive and an ideal place for relaxing. The staff were excellent and they personally went out of their way to make sure their guests had everything they needed. We will certainly be staying at the Rio Arade Algarve Manor House next time we go to Portugal.

Review 86:You do need to have a car as a little way from main road and towns, although we never tried the public buses

Review 87:We stayed for 5 nights and went over to Portimao for the WSBK racing which was only 20 - 25 mins away. Lovely layout of the house and courtyard, perfect for a evening glass of wine from the honesty bar almongst the many flowers and shrubs. Comfortable lounge with tv and lots to read. Rooms clean and comfortable. Breakfast basic but very pleasant.

Review 88:There was some noise from outside my room, from vehicles and a local establishment with live music.

Review 89:Friendly staff. Size and cleanliness of accommodations. Good home-like atmosphere. Nice garden outside.

Review 90:- limited places outside for breakfast

Review 91:- John, the owner is very friendly - the house is central too Ferragudo, Portimão and Carvoveiro, car is needed

Review 92:This place is heaven!! A beautiful old manor house were we found restand hapiness! John and Carlos spoilt us with lovely breakfast with freshorange juice and fruit. The location is very good because you can do alot of trips as well as to the north (direction of Faro) as to the southof the Algarve (Sagres). We will surely return!! Flor and Rose

Review 93:From the photos, I'd expected the hotel to be in a more rural setting soI was worried when we arrived and saw that it was on a small townstreet. Once inside the main door, I was able to relax. The building hasbeen tastefully renovated and is deceptively spacious with lots oflovely personal touches and lots of flowers. There's an honesty bar andlots of information.

Review 94:Make sure you let them know if you will arrive after 6. I had a phoneproblem and couldn't reach them and I felt bad about getting there late- but this is not a complaint. It's common courtesy.

Review 95:Beautiful place, friendly people, good basic breakfast. It's like alittle oasis behind a simple façade. Excellent value for money, easyparking and easy access to roads for getting around. If we'd stayedlonger and it had been a bit hotter, we would've used the pool. Wouldstay there again.

Review 96:good atmosphere, very friendly people, good breakfast with fresh fruits. Helpful with suggestions where to go and where to eat. Books about the area available in the living. Large and comfortable bathroom. Different from all other places we stayed at: a beautiful and well decorated building!

Review 97:This hotel is a beautifull surprise. When you enter the door it is like paradise; a total new world opens up. The staff is very helpfull and friendly. They have very good ideas about trips and routes.

Review 98:The Rio Arade is situated in a traditional Portuguese village, within a few km. of Portimao, but it retains its small town feel, with a local pub, shops and restaurant. It is amazing to be near a modern tourist resort and the Rio Arade sailing club and yet have this old time atmosphere. The old manor house has been carefully restored and features an impressive reception area, breakfast room and honesty bar. At the back there is the sunny courtyard with a nice swimming pool and with plants in flower even in January. John, the owner, gave us a very friendly welcome and couldn't have been more helpful on this our first visit to Portugal. He guided us to 2 excellent restaurants at Ferragudo and planned a day's touring for us. This included the Capela dos Ossos - the Bones Chapel - situated in the quaint village of Alcantarilha, the golf courses of Gramacho and Amondoeira, the green road and historic town of Silves. We stayed two nights and John helped us get the most from our too short stay. We hope to return for more Algarve explorations.

Review 99:Nothing.

Review 100:Everything about the Rio Arade. Carlos and Svetlana were superb hosts. We will certainly return.

Review 101:De prachtige tuin en gastvrijheid.

Review 102:Wonderful small hotel with the most helpful owner I ever met.

Review 103:Its a beautiful and charming accommodation. The area is quiet and people are nice. We will definitely come back!

Review 104:This small hotel was wonderful friendly warm welcome comfortable beds lovely breakfast thank you to John for a short but very pleasant stay

Review 105:Rio Arade Manor House is a truly charming place, beautifully restored and maintained. While not luxurious as such, it is a wonderful oasis of calm.

Review 106:Very atmospheric getaway. Friendly staff and a lovely calm atmosphere.

Review 107:Everything is great

Review 108:Our room was on the ground floor next to a main road.

Review 109:The oldie worldie feel of the hotel

Review 110:This place has a charm and atmosphere of a beautiful history. Very reasonable price and extremely friendly staff.

Review 111:lovely old manor house restorfed beutifully. made very welcome

Review 112:The room we stayed in was too basic and would have been cold if the temperatures were low.
