Reviews for Villa Torretta
Review 1:The parking was a bit pricey, and access was difficult because of the gate.
Review 2:We stayed in the cottage, absolutely charming, and the view was wonderful. Great location for the ferry. Excellent dinner and nice breakfast. Very friendly staff.
Review 3:i stayed here despite reviews complaining about the manageress. she was JUST FINE. she is a bit elderly and a bit forgetful, so i think that was interpreted in a bad way by some b.c reviewers. but she is really OK, so don't be put off by those reviews. the place was a delight.
Review 4:ALL WONDERFUL: comfort romantic ambiance bathroom bedroom welcoming staff living areas downstairs view of lake quiet at night location breakfast dinner maid service food service varenna town - the best on the lake lake como
Review 5:Access to front desk service which is in another building close by. Could not sit at their restaurant table to have a drink in the evening unless you were ordering a meal. Could not have iPad on table after 7pm, very strange!
Review 6:Position Access to ferries Access to train
Review 7:Perfect place, nice room N5, amazing vews , near to station, everything is very attractive , amazing , the staff is really professional! It is the one of the best places a ever visited befor!!! The place to need come back!!!
Review 8:Our room was possibly the worst in the place. Not much room around the bed which had a hump in the middle. The woman who checked us in was unhelpful and indifferent and bordering on rude.
Review 9:Varenna is a very pretty alternative to Belllagio and less busy. Villa Torretta is charming and faded and well located.
Review 10:outpaced designed furniture , people at front desk polite , but not very helpfull , breakfast food not 4*
Review 11:Large bedrooms , good bed , quality of bathroom, fantastic view, cleaning perfect.
Review 12:Peculiar attitude of owner In-room sockets narrow diameter, therefore not suitable for std. European adaptor 1st room given had very poor facilities and changed room for rest of stay Hangers in wardrobes wire or other peoples rejects
Review 13:Great location close to ferry connections for middle lake Como & village of Varenna very attractive Close to railway station for Milan connection Main part of villa furnished beautifully
Review 14:The bnb is overlooking the ferry port rather than in town. Didn't bother us because it is literally 100m away and much closer to the train station.
Review 15:Lovely little spot and amazing views. Perfect garden for enjoying a bottle of prosecco in the afternoons. Furniture and rooms are very luxurious. Staff in Olivados are really helpful and sweet.
Review 16:The air conditioning unit appeared to be controlled remotely, and it was too warm in the room. Also, instant coffee and espresso for breakfast.
Review 17:The proximity to the lake, except that it's also right at the ferry terminal, which makes for a lot of vehicular traffic and a loudspeaker announcing arrivals and departures.
Review 18:Room 5 was like living in our own villa, spacious & comfortable. Living room & dining room were beautiful, but it was too hot to enjoy them. Liked the roomy armoire and dresser. Beautiful patio, lovely view. Convenient location. Very quiet at night.
Review 19:VOIP over the wifi was a little dodgy
Review 20:Superb location, absolutely beautiful hotel, great terrace to sit and watch the lake. The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient.
Review 21:Although I booked 6 months in advance and asked for room 7 or 8, we got room 6 which was very small and had a view only if you stood at the window. We had heavy rain most of the time we were there, so had to spend time in our tiny room.
Review 22:Large, modern bathroom and comfortable bed, close and easy walk to the main area of Varenna, very convenient and fairly priced locked parking lot.
Review 23:The proprietress I named Frau Bucherer argued with me over the number of beds I had requested until I finally told herthe discussion was over. She handed over the keys and pointed up the hill to the room. I was expecting some kind of instructions on how to run the a/c, etc. I would not recommend Villa Torretta.
Review 24:location. bathroom. breakfast
Review 25:Our large comfortable room, which was on the first floor of a renovated villa, looked out over the lake and had a private entrance out into the garden. The common areas of the villa were inviting. The entrance to the walled courtyard that surrounds the villa is slightly down hill from the villa itself and requires climbing a set of steps. It wasn't a problem for us, but could be if you have large suitcases. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was well equipped with a much appreciated shower. A nice variety of restaurants and shopping are within easy walking distance. If you're lucky, you can get one of the free parking spots at the ferry that's across the street.
Review 26:Weather was hot and there was no airconditioning working in our room. We specifically requested and paid for a room with airconditioning but they told us it was not going to be turned on until,June.
Review 27:Location on lake right at the ferry dock was great!
Review 28:Nothing
Review 29:I liked the location. Our room overlooked the lake and activity at the ferry but very quiet at night. The staff was friendly and helpful. Varenna is lovely and a truly gracious place.
Review 30:Owner/Manager Laura's "briskness" borders on rudeness. The balcony view from our room was lovely, but no umbrella or awning to provide shade, so we couldn't enjoy it in the afternoon.
Review 31:Location and view. Breakfast service was fine. We walked from the train to the hotel.
Review 32:The facility only offered a continental breakfast which was a little scanty to say the least.
Review 33:If you are looking for a 5 star facility don't stay here. If you are looking for something relaxing and unique in an ideal locale with breathtaking views of Lake Como then this is the place for you. Ferry terminal is right at your doorstep and there are plenty of places to wine and dine nearby.
Review 34:Nothing, but if you're going to spend any time in your room make sure you get one with sitting chairs and a view, it rained one day and we were comfy.
Review 35:A great location, 10 minute walk to the train station, the ferry right out your front door.
Review 36:nothing
Review 37:Absolutely brilliant location, 5 minute walk from station & directly opposite the ferry to Bellagio. Spacious room with balcony overlooking the lake. Just spectacular!!
Review 38:noise carries at night within the villa, surprising as it is so solidly built.
Review 39:Varenna is the most perfect place to stay, great restaurants, quiet at night. the multi-lingual staff are very helpful & friendly, as is Laura the owner (who stayed up until midnight to greet guests who had been misdirected by their GPS) couldn't ask for more with the breakfast. The Villa completely exceeded our expectations
Review 40:Attitude of lady in charge - quite rude at times 41 steps with suit cases 3 doors to unlock to access room
Review 41:Location excellent Views great Room clean and well serviced Bathroom excellent
Review 42:This quaint hotel is conveniently located right in front of the boat dock on the water and a short walk to town. The family who runs this hotel made us feel very welcome, like family. It is comfortable, with a bed and breakfast atmosphere.
Review 43:We recently (late Sept) enjoyed a wonderful five night stay at Villa Torretta. We were accommodated in Room 9, their "turret" room, at the top of the building. Our accommodations were in great shape, clean, with wonderful views overlooking Lake Como from five large windows located on the west (3) and north (2) sides. An attached private terrace with table and chairs provided opportunities for a quiet "cocktail hour" while overlooking Lake Como. Bathroom and shower facilities were, clean, modern, and up-to-date. Villa Torretta is located at the Varenna ferry dock, adjacent to and under the same management as Hotel Olivedo, just a few hundred yards from the center of "Old Varenna". Laura, the manager, and her staff were most helpful and accommodating. The location was very enjoyable, active during the day with the proximity of the ferry dock, yet quiet at night as everything was very quiet after about 9 pm. Room 9 was accessed via 60 +/- stairs in four flights, there is no lift. Thus we were able to keep our legs in shape for the narrow lanes and multiple stairs in Varenna. We enjoyed one very nice dinner in the "grand" Hotel Olivedo dining room which is nicely decorated with period furnishings and fixtures. Wi-Fi was available, reliable, with a strong signal.
Review 44:Only down side is we didn't get to stay long enough. I think everyone in our group (adult siblings travelling together) would come back in a heartbeat.
Review 45:Really close to train station, so made it easy to drop off bags before exploring more. Food at restaurant in hotel was very good and the outside setting was delightful. We stayed in the Villa and the outside seating provided access to Wifi, a great view of Lake Como and just a wonderful setting. It was the perfect location to arrive in Italy and adjust to the time zone.
Review 46:We loved the common rooms to relax in on rainy days and the terrace to enjoy a bottle of wine in the late afternoons. The ferry is right out the door, but provides interest in watching people come and go, but doesn't create any noise issues.
Review 47:Everything was great.
Review 48:The view of lake como was wonderful. Also located right at boat ferry which made travels to other cities easy. Train station was nearby. Short walk to main center of town
Review 49:The room I had was one of about 5 on the top floor and it had an amazing view of the lake. The room was very cozy and comfortable room. The staff was amazing, especially the owner, who went out of her way to be very kind and accommodating. Its located next to the ferry which is convenient for getting to the other parts of the lake. It's a nice relaxing place that I would like to go back to.
Review 50:I reserve a two night stay, but had to change rooms for reasons that were never clearly explained. The house keeping staff came into our room at 10 without knocking to move us catching us at a time when no one would want to be interrupted.
Review 51:The setting is beyond compare in a town that I believe is the nicest on Lake Como. The Villa is a former single family home of some repute and thus the rooms are wonderful.
Review 52:Very noisy, with ferries coming and going all day from 6am onwards, and trash collection at 6am too. Pillows were like rocks - old, towels thin and rough.
Review 53:The room was clean and the bathroom was new with good plumbing! Good views. Varenna was a great base for our 5 days.
Review 54:Nothing major. The staff was a bit inflexible. Wouldn't allow early check-ins or late check-outs regardless of whether the room was ready upon our arrival or vacant upon our departure. The 'niece' who showed us to our room could not have been less interested or less helpful.
Review 55:Views of the lake from our room were outstanding. Very charming room. Easy walk to many good restaurants and shops. Easy to get to from the train station. Easy access to the ferry for travel to Bellagio and Menaggio.
Review 56:The only thing that was a problem was finding our room. We were handed a lump of keys and given brief instructions on how to find our room in the old guest house. The area is a little noisy at night. There was a childrens playground near the wharf and some fairly old children taking advantage of hanging out near the swings till all hours of the night, this went on for the 4 nights we were there. I suggest earplugs for sleeping if you are like me and sleep with the windows open and the air con off.
Review 57:The location of Villa Torretta was perfect. Close to the water transport and just up the hill the train station. We would watch the sun go down from the beautiful garden setting which was set up from the road level. The rooms were comfortable and the old house was charming. The breakfast was great at the Hotel next door. The town was a lot smaller than some of the other areas on Como. There was a choice of good restaurants and very quaint back streets.
Review 58:Staff attitude generally wasn't one of helpfulness and they didn't go out of the way to make it good for us.
Review 59:Location really good and room well appointed
Review 60:If you prefer a large TV and a fully stocked bar fridge rather than the view of the lake don't go here, I suggest a 5* hotel in Milan (or Manchester), after all you can always use Google Maps for your Italian lakes experience
Review 61:This is a period villa with wonderful views of the lake. Apart from period furniture in large rooms, the en-suite bathroom facilities are entirely modern. For its type this is an excellent hotel and the food in the juxtaposed hotel was delicious and good value for money.
Review 62:We asked if we could have an early breakfast (which was in the room rate) as we had an early train and we were told no.
Review 63:It was a lovely spacious room and very comfortable.
Review 64:We loved Villa Toretta, we could only stay one night because we were on a 3 week trip but we will definatly be back for a week next time. Hotel and view of the lake were both beautiful and Laura is a one in a million hostess who took very good care of all her guests.
Review 65:old matteress
Review 66:Great location and lovely villa.
Review 67:Great location and very good room space
Review 68:Older furnishings than expected. Staff not accommodating. Dinner at adjacent restaurant mediocre.
Review 69:That we had to leave after just 2 days. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 70:Perfect location. Convenience. Beautiful setting.
Review 71:Location and excellent breakfast
Review 72:Location. Close to ferries
Review 73:Not for old customers ... Steps. And no help Staff not welcoming We are not. Old but ....
Review 74:Location and private house
Review 75:The owner of the hotel was not at all friendly.
Review 76:The room was comfortable
Review 77:Welcome from the staff throughout our stay, the view, and the sense of grandeur.
Review 78:Super location in Varenna, close to the ferry, with beautiful views from all rooms. Every room has an outside patio. Staff was very nice.
Review 79:I loved the authentic furnishings and restoration of the Villa we stayed in! The balcony overlooking the lake was such a treat!
Review 80:Sagging bed Mold on stairs leading to villa 2 flat pillows
Review 81:nice location and great view
Review 82:Property manager and staff (in Hotel Olivedo) were terrific.
Review 83:location
Review 84:Friendly staff
Review 85:The wi-fi did not work in our room we had to go on the downstairs front lawn to access it.
Review 86:The position of this villa was sensational.
Review 87:Quirky, but comfortable, great breakfast
Review 88:Beautiful view from room. Staff was attentive. Clean rooms and convenient breakfast. Convenient location.
Review 89:Being close to the ferry and within easy walking distance of Varenna, the location was excellent. The room was very comfortable.
Review 90:Owner a little difficult. Rooms extremely small. Hot but could open windows.
Review 91:Location.
Review 92:We loved the service and the elegant, old world luxury and charm.
Review 93:Pile of nail clippings by my bed a bit disgusting Exhaust fumes at breakfast Cigarette smoke in lobby
Review 94:Decor, view, location
Review 95:A very warm reception, large room looking out over the lake. Excellent restaurant
Review 96:No bad experience. No elevator in hotel in case you have heavy luggage.
Review 97:location in Varenna was perfect. Right on the water.
Review 98:very convenient location and villas is very Italian....good for family together
Review 99:A small refigerator will be helpfull
Review 100:We would love to repeat our stay in the future. It started our vacation off in the best, italian way.
Review 101:The view and friendly staff
Review 102:Atmosphere, comfort, old style Reception very helpful and greeting very good
Review 103:The villa was in the perfect location with a beautiful view from the spacious room or from the nice communal balcony. The staff were lovely. It was a short walk from the station, ferry and restaurants. Perfect.
Review 104:Villa Torretta was amazing! I have traveled through Europe every summer for work (archaeology) for the past four years and our experience here was by far the best. The staff is over the top helpful. We had an overnight trip planned to Bellagio the day after our reservation and since I travel for a total of two months I had a very heavy suitcase. The woman working the front desk (I forgot her name!) let us leave our larger bags at the hotel overnight so we could take one small backpack with us- no issue whatsoever! The room was more than we could have imagined. It was very large and opened up to a spectacular view of the lake. The building itself is set up as an actual villa with plenty of outdoor seating and a full indoor sitting room. There are not many rooms so the experience is very intimate. I cannot stress how top notch our experience was. I was very sad that we booked only one night here. We will definitely return!
Review 105:Garabage truck at 6 am. Trafic to the boats can get noisy, but to be expected. Animal heads in the living room of the Villa. Those could be put away somewhere.
Review 106:Near the water, beautiful view, nice walking path along the water to town. Just a few steps to the boats to take us to other towns. Laura was very accommodating for my husband to find a room where he didn't have to climb a lot of steps.
Review 107:We liked it all. It'd was beautiful.
Review 108:The view , the comfort, the guietness the cleanliness the Proprietor .the villa was lovely With history beyond expectations.the staff was very friendly and polite and helpful .
Review 109:We liked everything!
Review 110:We had room 8 with a walkout balcony and view of the lake. The room was uniquely situated and very charming. Security was great as there were 3 locked doors, one to enter the hotel and up one floor out through a mini courtyard, one to re-enter the building, and one to the room. We had lots of space with a huge bathroom. It was quiet at night. The owner Laura was busy but helpful.
Review 111:good but not great food
Review 112:excellent location and view well appointed rooms. modern baths lovely common space contained within facility shared by our group of 10 travelers
Review 113:There were to few outlets to plug in and charge electronic gadgets like cell phone, camera etc. and they were not conviently located in our room. Also, the ceiling light over the dinning room table was not functioning which made playing cards in the evening more difficult.
Review 114:I enjoyed the experience of staying in a small villa rather than a hotel. We had the use of a sitting area and dinning area as well as an outdoor terrance overlooking Lake Como. The staff was very accomodating and the food served at the nearby hotel and restaurant was delicious. The location of Villa Torretta was excellent. It overlooked the ferry dock and had easy access to the walkway along the lake. I would happily stay there again.
Review 115:Noisy in the hours before midnight because the bar nearby was playing loud music! Otherwise it's quite sedate and peaceful in the daytime.
Review 116:Beautiful scenery and charming village. Glad we found this place, it was wonderful. We stayed in the tower room which had an amazing view of the lake and mountains. We were staying near to the ferry departure point, which was convenient for getting to Belaggio for the afternoon. The staff were very welcoming at the hotel. Will come back here, but will book much earlier so that it's a little less expensive.
Review 117:Ferry can be noisy during the day. Breakfast could have been much more substantial.
Review 118:Beautiful views of the lake. Lovely old building. Clean and well maintained. Laura was warm and welcoming.
