Reviews for Wa no Cottage Sen-no-ie

Review 1:The cooking area on the floor with sand attracts my son so much that he couldn't stop playing with it. I guess its not too suitable for young toddlers who won't stay still. =p But if you have older children, i think this place is very nice.

Review 2:Very beautiful wooden houses. Traditional tatami room. The staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. Full of smiles always. Comfortable. Location is quite near the ferry terminal.there's even a traditional sand cooking space in middle of the living room, which you can make a pot of shabu shabu.

Review 3:The hosts were extremely kind and helpful for the duration of our stay, it was a pleasure to stay here. The cabin was clean and comfortable, very quiet and a short drive to the grocery store and ferry terminal. The Japanese bath that was offered each night was lovely and very memorable.

Review 4:The best accmodation I have ever been to! Hosts are caring and wonderful, cottages are superclean, comfortable and nicely decorated. The location is great for nature lovers as it is located in the woods.

Review 5:it was the best stay i ever had in japan. we were welcomed warmly by the owner who helped us when we just first arrived the port. everything is excellent. there are a detailed set of manual for visitors including how to take the shared bath and what to note during the stay. the place is nicely designed for those who want a relaxing trip and beautifully situated in a tranquil area full of trees and fresh air. we enjoyed every moment though it was just a short stay only. we particularly love the morning workshop delivered by an experienced carpenter. we hope we will come back again!

Review 6:Stunning place - just outside the main town of Miyanoura, but secluded and completely rural. The sound of the river, the smell of the forest, the crystal clear night skies ... bliss. The rooms are large, spotless, detached, and the nightly gorum-buro (hot bath prepared using firewood) is just so Japanese. The owners are so friendly, and the booklets given to each guests on rules and advice are gat - cartoons of cats telilng you how to operate the air-con, and what insects should be avoided etc. Would stay here again in a heart-beat. We even made our own chopsticks here!

Review 7:location requires a car, but most of Yakushima does.

Review 8:Helpful and nice owners - they even called on us in the middle of the night when they noticed we left the car lights on! saved us a lot of trouble. The cabins themselves are great! the best futons we slept on in Japan. View are great. The iron bath is a great experience! Lack of dinner/breakfast - The owner will recommend places to eat dinner (Isaribi which was great). Breakfast is tricky because the few places on the Island open late.

Review 9:Not located near town, bad location if you do not have a car (the whole island is not easily explorable w/o car) No breakfast available.

Review 10:Very friendly staff, we were picked up at harbour, authentic japanese atmosphere, japanese bath tube, quiet, located in nature, directly at bus stop to Shiratani Unsuikyou

Review 11:They owner and her son were incredibly nice and accommodating. The air conditioning was out in the room we stayed in and they upgraded us to their best room for free. We will definitely book this room in future visits because it was wonderful. The scenery was gorgeous, the inn cottage is located right by a bus stop, and you couldn't ask for better hosts. We also really enjoyed the private geomon bath in the bath house by the river. What an amazing trip! Staying at this cottage was definitely the highlight of iur 3 week trip to Japan. We look forward to the next visit!

Review 12:The hotel is close to the bus stop to one of the best trekking routes (Shiritani Unsuikyo) in the island. But apart from this it is difficult to move in the island, so we had to rent a car.

Review 13:We had a cottage only for us, with a small terrace a wonderful bathroom, kitchen and close to the river. We had the luck of being able to use a bath tube that was made from one cedar tree! The staff was very friendly and they help us a lot. Not too many people speak English in the island, so their help was very useful for renting a car and hiring trekking equipment.

Review 14:No shower except of the bath which can only be used in the evening, no space for eating (just a small rolling 'table' on the floor, barely enough for 2 people). Also seems like they are expanding the premises, the cosy and private feel might get lost if there are more units built.

Review 15:Daily wood heated bath, very helpful staff, beautiful and large room, peaceful setting in the nature.

Review 16:Owner are extremely kind. The place is beautiful situated in a very quiet and wild part of the Island. The barbecue next to the house was a magic moment.

Review 17:Thank you to the family who runs this beatiful place for giving us a wonderful stay on Yakushima island. Read on if you want details, but put shortly: Go there - it's a wonderful place! Arriving early in the morning, the family welcomed us with coffee and tea, and took us to the city by car (the city is also within walking distance). The son speaks vert good English. When we checked in at 4 pm, our luggage was already in our cottage. The cottage is homely and well-furnished. We tried the hot tub - that was a unique and nice experience. After dinner, our hosts brought us cake and tea because they had caught that is was my birthday. Another time, they passed us walking through the rain and took us back to the cottage by car. In the morning on our last day, they brought us to the ferry. Small things like that indicated how thoughtful and considerate the hosts are. Truly wonderful and warm people - we are happy to have met them and stayed at their place. Highly recommendable!

Review 18:The Tatami's are a little hard if you are not used to them. Otherwise, excellent.

Review 19:If you are looking for a stay in a traditional japanese cottage, you can't do any better. The owner is an artist with many of his pieces of wood work on display and for sale. The cottages are recently built and in the traditional style and methods. Absolutely beautiful. If any nails were used that can not be seen. Masterful work and beautiful tranquil place. The soaking tub is extra special with a via on to the a creek. Excellent place with wonderful hosts and staff! This was a top stay during our month long vacation.

Review 20:Nothing bad.

Review 21:Spacious cottages amongst the forest, bath house overlooking the river, chopstick making with ancient ceder and the most hopsitable and kind-hearted hosts we could have asked for. Highly recommend to all who want to visit the island for a quiet and beautiful escape!

Review 22:The goemon buro(old style bath) is good as an experience, but as someone who is 194cm in height,it was a little difficult to fit into.Perhaps just stick to the shower if you are large.

Review 23:The delightful cottages are in an excellent location right next to a stream. The staff were very helpful. The bento we ordered to take with us for lunch was delicious!

Review 24:Everything The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful and the cottage we stayed in was perfect. Comfy and clean. We only stayed for one night but would have loved to have stayed for longer. The traditional Japanese bath was very relaxing too!

Review 25:The staff went out of their way to prepare BBQs, Baths, and give us lifts to the supermarket, restaurants and the ferry port home. Wish I could have thanked them more.

Review 26:Very lovely location and room. Staff were amazingly sweet and generous. Gave us lifts to the port and great restaurant recommendation. Really enjoyed our stay, thank you.

Review 27:No TV. Futtons too japaneese for our taste... some bugs but that's a consequence of being in the middle of the forest. A bit expensive.

Review 28:Staff. WiFi available in the cottage.

Review 29:It's a little separated from the main part of Miyanoura, but it didn't matter that much as the staff gave us some rides.

Review 30:The cottage setting by the river was beautiful, and convenient for catching the bus up to the mountains. The staff was so helpful and made us feel welcome, and even drove us into town to pick up groceries. We wish we could have stayed longer!

Review 31:What's not to like? My own private bungalow with all the necessities. It was my last night of a magical trip and staying here was the ideal way to wrap up. The traditional goemon bath was great. If it's a pleasant evening, I recommend strolling down to the river nearby to gaze at the stars. With any luck you'll see some fireflies too! Last but certainly not least, the proprietor is about the kindliest person I've ever met. I only met him the morning of my departure, but he gave me a lift all the way to the airport! Thank you for a most memorable experience. I will be back!

Review 32:Nothing!

Review 33:Very friendly and considerate hosts. Extremely welcoming!! The Goemon buro was excellent - a unique experience.

Review 34:The location is excellent for the valley hiking. The settings of the cottage among the woods are very comfortable and calm. We will stay here again.

Review 35:Staffs were very kind and the room was very spacious

Review 36:Nothing

Review 37:Friendly, helpful staff, speak excellent English, pay attention to details. Enjoy their home made bath house.

Review 38:Nice staff, comfortable design

Review 39:We missed Shower in room but it was not far from cottage anyway.

Review 40:Staff was incredibly friendly and even helped us with couple of problems

Review 41:Food

Review 42:cottage in the forest next to a stream perfect yakushima experience

Review 43:The owner was very nice and helpful. The cottages were clean and cozy. The traditional hot Japanese baths were amazing!

Review 44:Nothing, it was very nice

Review 45:The courtesy and kindness of the staff, the architecture of the cottage, the peace of the place.

Review 46:Really awesome place. The staff was simply the best! very helpful all the time. Everything is beatutiful, perfect and really comfortable. Goemonburo for president!

Review 47:The staff were fabulous. The cottages are set in great garden next to running rocky river which you don't see but sound is great. The whole family is involved. Mums the boss and dad does beautiful wood crafts. Love this place

Review 48:Using the grill was a tad too expensive.

Review 49:Staff was extremely helpful and nice. We stayed for a week and had no problems what so ever. I recommend making your own chopstick while you are here.

Review 50:We recommand it to all! The ower is mode than kind!it's clean, and we feel like at home:) and the bathroom is finaly not chared, because you reserve your bath time (and there is a japonese bath too....excellent!)

Review 51:The town's 7am wake up call over the speakers.

Review 52:We had a great stay, the service was friendly, helpful and so welcoming. Loved the chance to learn how to make chopsticks too!

Review 53:This is our most favourite place in the whole of Kyushu/Yakushima.The service provided is far beyond our expectation, the place is verycomfortable and clean. It makes us feels home away from home. Best Ever

Review 54:The bath is Japanese style with one hour reservations per room/group. This was very cool and relaxing but meant you could only bath once per day. I'm sure if you requested a quick shower early in the AM (when they don't prep the Japanese bath) it should not be a problem, but we didn't need nor ask.

Review 55:It is located as close as you can reside to the shiratani unsuikyo forest (via bus). Staff was very helpful and kind. We were there during non-peak season for tourists and during the week so he was able to take us by his car to grocery store and bank (~15 minutes walk anyway). I recommend two full days in yakushima atleast. Visit the forest, waterfalls, and mountains.

Review 56:The staff was fabulous and went out of their way to make our stay special. The cottage itself was gorgeous, spacious and had excellent amenties. The goeman buro Japanese bath was fantastic. Location was beautiful and close to a bus stop. Even so they picked us up and dropped us off at the ferry. They have created charming guidebooks to the cottage and bath for English speakers. We would go back to Yakushima just to stay there.

Review 57:Be aware that mobile phone connection is unavailable at most of the timeand that you need to make sure to arrive on the island with enough cash. Most ATMs don't accept overseas credit cards. We strongly recommendan international drivers license and a rented car in order to enjoynature without the need to worry about making the only bus home.

Review 58:Amazing staff that cares so much about their guests. It might happenthat when you come home your japanese bath is readily waiting for you.In particular, going for a hike without mobile connection it feels goodto know that they care about you even when you are unreachable. A verybig, cozy and beautiful landscape, perfect to escape the rush of bigcities, a magnificent holiday.

Review 59:A wonderful and relaxing place to stay. Nice, clean, artfully decorated, well equipped, spacious room in a very quiet location. The bath is quite unique. The owner and his family are very friendly, efficient and helpful in giving us advice, and even suggesting the dinner menu. I wish we had more time to stay longer.

Review 60:some spiders (I'm a wuss you must know...). Believe me though, the apartment house was clean and lovely as can be!!

Review 61:Traditional tatami floor Apartment, very clean and tidy, high level of comfort, extremely helpful and friendly staff, garden all around, awesome wood fired onsen bathing hut for private bathing in hearing distance to a lovely river, awesome rainforrest, monkeys, deer etc... huuuuuge trees, mountains, walking/hiking paths.

Review 62:Some insects, however to be expected as it is a little closer inland.

Review 63:Amazing staff, drove us to the port, to the grocery store and again tothe port at 6.30 am in the morning. Offered to dry our clothes in thedrying area knowing that we went kiyaking in the day. Even though weforgot to take them in the morning, they are senting it to us!! PreparedCHarcoal in the bbq area for us to cook on and cool little bath. You getyour own little cottage!!

Review 64:The most friendly and helpful staff that I've ever seen anywhere in the world. The place is absolutely beautiful. It is located between Yakushima mountains next to a stream. The hot bathtubs are a perfect way to relax after enjoying the beautiful nature and wildlife of Yakushima.
