Reviews for Casa de Sezim

Review 1:GPS had a problem with address but a nice person lead us there. Beds a little stiff.

Review 2:A living History lesson, in the same family since the 1300's, make sure you ask to see the history rooms and gardens, breakfast very good, Jose and staff excellent. The dog never stops. Quiet and relaxing, very nice town to visit.

Review 3:We were initially going to spend 2 nights. We ended up spending 4 nights because of the uniqueness of this property. Casa de Sezim is a very special place. Jose (the owner) and his staff do a remarkable job on making their guests feel at home. The house (villa) was built around 1376 and has been in the same family for 30 generations. The library and living room has art that is museum quality. The grounds and winery are spectacular. It really isn't possible to write enough positive things about Casa de Sezim. We will be coming back and spending even more time.

Review 4:Beautiful historic villa at a winery outside Guimaraes. Service was impeccable. Staff friendly. Setting perfect. Delicious breakfast and wine produced there.

Review 5:We had trouble finding the place. Do not rely on Google maps.

Review 6:Fascinating decor, lovely grounds. Like a trip back in time, it had a time-worn aspect that we found very charming. Owner spoke perfect English and was very helpful and informative.

Review 7:There was nothing I didnt like, but there could have been slightly more flexibility with feeding our son 1 evening when the cook was off eg give him pasta that he liked and we had brought - but he coped with the omelete and sandwich he was offered.

Review 8:Loved the feel of the place, very relaxing, and our 9 year old son liked the facilities eg pool, dog to play with, and pool. A wonderful atmosphere to the place.

Review 9:Can be difficult to find

Review 10:Quietely Enjoying the morning from the gorgeous veranda looking at the lovely garden while having the most fantastic homemade breakfast was the perfect start of the day

Review 11:There was nothing we didn't like. Googlemaps needs to update its directions the house, though - be warned that it currently takes you into the middle if the vineyards on a rutted dirt road.

Review 12:The beautiful, atmospheric house and grounds; the warm hospitality; the generous and delicious breakfast served on the gorgeous terrace.

Review 13:You can see and hear the highway at the property. Nevertheless, with all this beauty around even I forgot the presence of the way. At night you don't hear anything because of the thick walls of the house.

Review 14:Picture perfect. Stunning house and gardens, beauty everywhere you look and in every detail. Great historic and romantic atmosphere. Very friendly and helpfull owner. Very sweet and helpfull staff. Lovely meals at the veranda. Everyday good lunch available. Good wifi at the veranda. Nice swimmingpool. Lovely little town Guimaraes nearby. Nice surroundings and interesting places to visit nearby. Our best stay in Portugal, and one of our best stays ever.

Review 15:Nothing

Review 16:We loved the untouched original interiour and especially the antique wallpapers, the beautifully kept garden, wonderful outside terrace, and of course the adorable dog!

Review 17:The Casa was an experience similar to living in a museum filled with antiques, family memorabilia and enchanting rooms to wander through at our leisure. The meals were superb, the bedrooms finely decorated and the gardens divine. Jose, the manager, was informative, helpful-to the point of lending us his GPS, checking each day to see if we were happy and a true asset to the Casa.

Review 18:The property was very beautiful.!! The hammock on the terrace outside our room was the perfect place to relax after we had strolled by the pool. Our room was large and comfortable. Thesittingrooms were incredible. It was an experience we would recommend to our friends at home.

Review 19:We spent a most pleasant and relaxing weekend in this superb historic house on its wine estate. We loved our evenings in front of the log fire supping the estate vinho verde! We were the only guests and felt like the Lord and Lady in a Portuguese Downton Abbey!!

Review 20:Nothing we disliked.

Review 21:We love this Casa very much. The cosy ambience and the vintage setting are the charm of this Casa. The youngest part of this Casa dated back to 18 th century with the oldest part dated back to 13 th century. We have a leisure morning walk in the garden. A morning dip in the swimming pool made a good start of the day. The breakfast with fresh orange juice is a treat. What is unexpected is the welcome drink. It is a whole of chilled award-winning white wine served at the balcony facing the garden. We highly recommended this Casa. By the way, it is easy to locate the Casa by GPS.

Review 22:Wasn't cheap, but worth it for a splurge. While you can take a taxi into Guimaraes, you really want to have a car if you stay here, as it's a 15 minute drive. There's no restaurant on site, though they will make you some nice sandwiches if you ask. But since a nice dinner in Guimaraes is so cheap, it's worth the drive in!

Review 23:This has to be one of the most beautiful hotels I've very stayed in. The rooms are decorated in very traditional style, with antiques and four-poster beds. The grounds are amazing, like a private park, with a lovely (if somewhat chilly) swimming pool, a comfortable veranda, and lots of inexpensive wine (free bottle of the vinho verde the first night) from the vineyards you are in the middle of. All in all a magical place to stay.

Review 24:somewhat distant from oldtown

Review 25:peacefull and trouble-free easy parking enjoy antique premises

Review 26:The best stay in a long time. Very classy, historical and yet comfy facilities. Extremely friendly staff and guided tour by the owner. Just perfect!

Review 27:Beautiful property with large pool. Excellent dinner on the terrace. Very helpful staff, especially Carla.

Review 28:everything was OK

Review 29:best service and helpful staff

Review 30:It's a really uniques place. Wonderfull house. Excellent service. An experience.

Review 31:The authenticity of the house. The location and garden.

Review 32:Needs a little better cleaning attention

Review 33:The warm and the class of the house. Wonderful garden.

Review 34:Slightly sullen attitude of the owner.

Review 35:Magnificent interior of family home. Pool and surrounds. Breakfast.

Review 36:It is a hotel with very great history. Wine was also very delicious and it was able to play with a lovely dog. I also want Japanese people to use by all means.

Review 37:Estate in aristocratic style. Largest collection in Portugal of hand made wall-paintings from different continents where grandpa was ambassador. 1900 atmosphere, although with modern confort. Extensive breakfast. Very warm welcome.

Review 38:The owner looks like a few tired and with apathetic attitude about his businees and he lacks of enthusiasm and smile, at least during our stay. The plastic bathroom fittings really surprised us. The bathrooms needs some better maintenance indeed.

Review 39:It is about 15 minute drive from Guimaraes.

Review 40:it's a remarkable historical farmhouse, with an astounding garden with a small but elegant pool and tennis courts and nicely distributed floral decorations. There are several nice historical common rooms, including a large living-room with an a warm fireplace.

Review 41:The historic architecture, furnishings and beautiful landscape were wonderful. They served a welcome bottle of wine to us from their vineyard. The breakfast was good. The staff was very nice and helpful. This was one of our most favored accommodations.

Review 42:Beautiful old place, very atmospheric with lovely and helpful staff. Gorgeous grounds to walk around, marvellous veranda for breakfasts. Not far from town, buses seem to stop outside, but only on the way from town; they seem to take a different route going there, so a taxi is necessary (green/black ones 5.85, the cream ones 11.00, for some reason). Or walk 1/2 mile to Santo Amaro to catch bus to Guimaraes. Very charming, this place is as far removed from corporate bland as you can find.

Review 43:Wifi connection was intermittent. The driveway was rutted.

Review 44:We spent 2 nights in this treasure, wandering through the grand property and imagining history and a time of elegance. The people were welcoming. The pleasant breakfast was served on the veranda overlooking the gardens and pool.

Review 45:The family and building comprising Casa de Sezim have been there for centuries. They are a connection to history. The place is beautiful and spacious. The owner and staff were extremely friendly and gracious. A super breakfast was included in the very reasonable rate. It was the highlight of a great trip to wonderful Portugal.

Review 46:The booking.com instructions on how to get there were absolutelyuseless. We have never got lost like this in our whole life and we havetravelled a lot. But the instructions from the owner (which we hadn'tnoticed, as they were in very small script) were excellent. Please alteryour own instructions!!

Review 47:We liked everything, the location (very quiet), the house (superblyfurnished and layed-out, the welcome by the owner (absolutely fluent inEnglish), the staff (very friendly and efficient), the excellentbreakfast. Since it was weekend, we couldn't enjoy a Dinner there, butthe menu looked promising and if you go by the quality of the breakfast,we missed something here.

Review 48:Directions provided for getting there are confusing.

Review 49:Beautiful historical residence in nice country setting. Friendly andhelpful staff. Located close to Porto and many other interesting placesto explore. Excellent local white wine produced in loco.

Review 50:Some places may require renovation, but again, the current state givesyou the feeling of an old manor, which it is.

Review 51:Do not expect a modern hotel, this is an old, family-owned historichouse and Quinta and it is what gives Casa de Sezim a true charm. Lookaround the house, it's beautiful. We loved the family atmosphere, thedinner and breakfast. We have also been given a short tour of their wine-making facilities by the wine-maker/manager/owner. Try their GrandeEscolha Vinho Verde, we really liked it. But our favorite thing aboutthe place was the semi-wild garden with rabbits and other animals - wewere lucky to spot an eagle and a red-legged partridge.

Review 52:Nothing. It was a spectacular night!

Review 53:The staff were very friendly and available. We arrived late but they still prepared something for us to eat. The place is quiet and the house is very beautiful. We especially liked the terrace where the breakfast (complete and with tasty food) was served and the swimming pool, where we could relax a bit after our trip.

Review 54:Difficult to find. Not really a restaurant. The plumbing needs some improving.Far from the centre, need really a car.

Review 55:Friendly people.A place with a pass.Very quiet.

Review 56:The house is still in the process of being restaured to its former glory but makes for a memorable stay.

Review 57:Almost everything: being welcomed by the owner, admirable house and gardens, excellent white wine, peace and quietness, excellent breakfast. etc.

Review 58:This is one of the most charming hotels I have ever stayed in (I travel a lot). The building is great, the property is located on a vineyard. There is a nice pool. Most important, the veranda/balcony is just great for reading, dreaming away or looking out over the garden and vineyard. Breakfast is served on the balcony and we got a free bottle of vinho verde + some snacks as a welcome gift. It would be very hard to find a hotel with a nicer atmosphere.

Review 59:Just a bit tricky to find after a long motorway journey from theAlgarve. Print off the instructions and keep to hand!

Review 60:Unique low-key character & setting, charming proprietor and staff, Dog-friendly, wine-farm and garden setting, breakfast service on terraceoverlooking garden and view, real family antique character ininteresting historic property, swimming pool in lawned garden, lovelypool towels. Most comfortable antique bed with good mattress and nicesheets. Close to Guimaraes European city of culture this year 2012, mostinteresting. Other nice couples including returners.

Review 61:Amazing hotel, great staff, beautiful room. Everything was absolutelyexcellent. My family and I highly recomend it for everyone who wishes tohave an exquisite stay in the city of Guimarães.

Review 62:The bathrooms need updating. Ours was adequate but could be improved upon.

Review 63:On arriving at the Casa, the weary traveled is welcomed and invited to enjoy a bottle of their own, excellent, white wine with cheese and olives on the verandah overlooking gardens and fountains. Casa de Sezim is very close to Guimaraes so it was easy to explore the historical city during the day and then return to the Casa's quiet, peaceful surroundings for the evening. It is a magnificent, ancestral home filled with antique furnishings and paintings. The family still resides at the Casa and are gracious hosts. Dinner with wine is served, if you reserve ahead, and is a delightful, delicious experience. This is an old and gracious, building, a little worn around the edges but charming, an incredible experience. We felt like we were welcomed as friends and hope to return, very soon.

Review 64:It is an amazing house with so much history, set in beautiful gardens. The owners were so friendly and helpful We were meeting up with a youngcouple and their 7 month old, and the owners were so understanding ofour needs.

Review 65:This is an amazing place to stay (hotel does not quite cover it ...) Beautiful estate. Wonderful room. Casa de Sezim is a destination all by itself. I will most certainly recommend it to everyone I know. Thank you for making my vacation in Portugal extra special

Review 66:Getting there - without a gps and the ability to ask passers by - mayprove difficult, specially at night. Some more sign posts along the waywould be helpful! Go early - and you will enjoy more Casa de Sezim

Review 67:The house is located in a dream place. Even if very close to Guimaraeswe feel it as very far away from the urban area. The garden includingthe vegetable garden is a place of peace and relaxation (unfortunately Iwas only one night) and one could stay there a couple of days in bliss. We were received by the owner, a cultured gentleman and wine maker thatcatered to perfection. Upon arrival we were offered a bottle of "vinhoverde" - loureiro and arinto grapes - that we sipped sitting in afantastic veranda. The farm produce is used - a beautiful orange juicewas served at breakfast - and meals can be served upon request (nexttime I will use that ). Being a family house we do not feel intruding, while we can circulate freely in beautifully decorated rooms full ofreal antiques. Free wifi was available - a place to recommend.

Review 68:I really cannot find anything to complain about. The bedroom furniture is all original from the family - so several hundred years old - mattress, sheets and pillows all top quality and anti allergic.

Review 69:Quite honestly an incredible place that is extreamly relaxing. It is 10 minutes drive from the main town which is no problem - for this you get an amazing location, fantastic breakfast(they just keep topping up fresh juice coffee, eggs etc) and great garden to relax in with pool. Staff are amongst the most hospitable I have ever experienced - most definately beating any of the 5star accommodation. Gives open access to bar(runs honesty scheme) and free wifi. Brilliant !

Review 70:I loved the fact that the family portraits from centuries ago hang abovephotographs of the more recent generations of the family. It's a specialplace, with hand painted wallpaper and chandeliers, a gorgeous verandaoverlooking the gardens and a massive open fireplace and honesty bar inthe downstairs living room. I'm definitely coming back in the summer, when the pool's functioning.

Review 71:The wifi signal could be stronger.

Review 72:Smell of the garden.

Review 73:friendly and personal, great location, wonderful ambiance..

Review 74:An extraordinary historical Quinta An attentive and committed host An excellent vino verde

Review 75:The pool was a bit cold!

Review 76:We were very happy!

Review 77:Beautiful place and we enjoyed the breakfast on the terrasse

Review 78:room, breakfast, wait staff, grounds, history, ambience

Review 79:Rooms not very sound proof, but in this setting absolutely no problem.

Review 80:Amazing location in renovated castle. Absolutely stunning!

Review 81:nothing
