Review 1:Poor Wi-Fi signal in the room, Would not recommend a la carte dinner menu - it's very likely they will forget about your order while being too focus on providing service for open buffet (which is not worth to spend 21 eur/per person)

Review 3:The staff need to pay more attention to the guests when they are at the reception desk .Staff at reception make you wait while they carry on with whatever they are doing ... No communication all they need to say was I'll be with you in a minute ... At one stage stood at the counter in front of the young receptionist felt like 5 min then I walked away and she didn't even blink an eye .!!

Review 4:The view was the only impressive thing ..

Review 5:The beds were terribly uncomfortable, I could feel the springs ++.The decor in the rooms are very, very tired looking ! Meat from buffet was quite dry and cost 21.00€ ! The morning we left, we were confronted by a large cockroach in the elevator !! The coffee maker in the room had used coffee grounds in it from previous guests.

Review 6:The bathroom was bright, huge and very clean !! The staff were very nice and welcoming and they delivered a continental box breakfast to our room the night before we left as we had a very early flight . The meals from the menu were delicious. We enjoyed the Happy Hour in the bar was great and the bartender nice to chat with.

Review 7:The staff were extremely helpful. We were a family of three generations and were upgraded to a suite of two apartments with huge rooms, kitchen facilities, enormous balconies and sea views. We loved the pools, the gym and the free exercise classes.

Review 8:Receptionists - when I gave her my credit card, she took it and immediately went with it to the other room, without asking for the permission! You have to use stairs to go to the lift, nobody ask if you need a help to carry your luggage. Everything in the room was clean, but old. Breakfasts - no vegetables, no fresh fruits (only mix of fresh and canned fruits in syropy sauce)

Review 10:magnificient view from balcon, nice, helpfull employees, great place for sightseeing Madera. Near about hotel is one of the best restaurant on Madera- Villa Ventura. Care of the quest - I needed gluten free breakfast - they did it especially for me:)

Review 11:No hot water a few nights and mornings, lots of noise from the gym in the evening and from the cleaning staff early in the morning (the room i had was right next to the laundry room and other staff rooms); although the room was advertised as with sea view it was really facing a wall (80%); noise from the fridge as it was in the same room as the bed; wi-fi only in the reception, no cell phone signal at all in the room

Review 13:Problem with air conditioner from day one. First maintenance man said it was working, we new the difference. Later found a part was ordered, never repaired for the whole 10 days, fan provided. Another room was offered but not of the same quality or view. The room was also over the kitchen, which caused the floor to be extra warm, we did compare our room with the one used by our friends, theirs was excellent. Sleeping was a problem deck doors open all night. Insecure.

Review 15:There are no drying racks for swimwear or beach towels in the studio room or on the balcony, definitely needed! Gym's personnel could be a bit friendlier. Not a very good variety of fruits for breakfast. Many people smoke on their balconies in the evenings and early mornings, and the smell goes into the room too easily. As non-smokers we didn't enjoy that at all! Maybe they could forbid smoking on the balconies completely..

Review 16:We had a Studio room (with a kitchen, big fridge, all the basic dishes, but there's no oven) with a sea view, on the 5th floor. The view is fantastic! Balcony is nice with a table and chairs, we spent all late evenings out there. Also we've seen whales for two days right from the balcony! Private beach is good, if you like to swim in the ocean (we were in July and the water was Ok to swim), seems like not too many hotels in Madeira have a private beach. There's also a diving club, where you can get diving courses or rent a snorkelling equipment (there are few varieties of colourful fishes to see right near the hotel). Breakfast was good, with some variations from day to day. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel, there are plenty of restaurants around. Also grill bar in Rocamar hotel (connected to Royal Orchid via corridor) was really good. There's a free bus to Funchal three times a day (and back). There's also a regular bus for 2.20euros (July 2014) less than 5 minutes walk from the hotel, if you come back late from the city. Also sun beds and sun umbrellas are available for no charge, and there are beach towels in the room.

Review 31:Many thanks receptionist Lurdes for their invaluable help in resolving problems with our arrival in Funchal Airport and hotel accommodation. Very delicious and varied breakfasts have been in this hotel. Fantastic view of the ocean is a huge advantage of this hotel before nearby. Very convenient that the hotel has a free shuttle bus service to Funchal roundtrip and with super professional driver, which is important for such highlands as Madeira.

Review 32:Noise from the gym in the evenings. Pillows were like rocks. Without a car you would need to go into Funchal in order to get anywhere. Lifts were on half landing so if you had a mobility issue you would have to use a half flight of stairs.

Review 33:Position, right on the ocean with good sized balcony. Staff were excellent. Cleanliness was second to none, room cleaned thorougly every day and linen changed every other day. Breakfast buffet menu was very good. Kitchenette was very well equipped, toaster, coffee making machine and kettle plus four ring cooker and decent sized fridge freezer.

Review 38:We booked a room for 4 adults and an infant. We have paid good money for it! We have also requested a good see view. Apparently there is one such rooms on each floor, but the hotel staff didn't pay attention to the number of people staying in our room! The room we got was fat too small for 4 adults and one infant. Having just one bathroom and toilet, we really struggled to stay there for a week! There was another family arriving just with us. They booked the same type of room but they were a family of four, two parents, one 12 year old and one 3 year old. But the hotel staff allocated them the bigger room (same type, another floor)! I discussed it with them but apparently to them it was just the same type of room although their room was much bigger and had two toilets, one shower and one bath! I complained at the hotel and mentioned that I would discuss it with Booking.com. The staff should have known better.

Review 39:The hotel is very clean and in a good location. Most staff are nice and lovely. Breakfast was good. Very nice view from our balcony.

Review 40:I think the bathroom could use some upgrading. And wifi was only in the lobby but that was never a problem. It forced us to enjoy the scenery that is abundant there.

Review 41:We loved the location; right on the water. We also loved the ability to cook in our room as we are vegans and we usually cook ourselves. We also loved that breakfast was included, but as vegans we couldn't eat much but loved the ability to drink tea on the balcony.

Review 46:Hotel is not really modern. Large rooms lack furniture (look and feelempty). Tiny TVs, Internet only at the reception, and in some spots allover hotel. Bar at the pool offers water, some soft drinks and coffee ifyou actually meet bar tender there (I've never managed, but I'veseen people making coffee but themselves). Two days before arrival Ihave asked if two rooms I have booked could be close together (in babymonitor range). I've been told, that presently I those are ondifferent floors, but they will change it for me for rooms at the samefloor, just across hallway, about 20 meters away. Seems perfect? Well,20m away across hallway means actually about 200 meters on the otherside of the hotel. New room had view on other hotel's wall (andwindows), and on the restaurant (just one floor below). Public parkingis... Well there is no public parking. Couple of parking spots occupied24h a day by car rental company, so if you plan to rent a car,you'll have problems with that. No special car rental offers at thehotel. Just regular prices, actually from kind of expensive rentalcompanies.

Review 49:The badly furnised rooms The thorn and sun damaged curtains. The poor quality of the breakfast foods. The fact that the lift had broken down and had not been repaired for our entire stay.Our room was on level 3 and we had to slep up and down the stairs. The staff are not friendly. This facility does not qualify for 4 stars I would find it difficult to allocate it as a 2 star facility

Review 53:Studio apartment we had was substandard. Our friends who paid same price had an Apartment a lot superior to ours.We did the booking for all. Apartment was on the lowest floor, with people & tradesmen walking past the lounge room window. Everything a bit dated. Gym unable to use until 10.00AM!! All equipment also old. Our room was not made up till 4.0pm every day.

Review 56:Very good the position very close to the sea. Our room view was very beautiful as we could see the sea in front of us from the balcony and windows. The room for 4 adults is very big with 2 baths and a nice kitchen too.The hotel provides 2 pools (one external and one internal) + a jacuzy and the environment is quite quiet.

Review 59:Furniture in our room was dated and the beds hard. Our children slept on a sofa bed which would have been unfit for an adult as the matress was so thin. We were next to a lift motor which was extremely noisy. Generally sound proofing seemed to have not been considered in the design. We had to complain obout our neighbours who were particularly noisy but the staff were very helpful in trying to resolve this. Although the staff were great with the kids there was nothing that they would have touched on the evening menus. Likewise one of our party was vegetarian and the options, like the rest of Madeira, were limited. The gym/swimming facilities were great but they were unavailable when we wanted to use them, when the kids were in bed. The local beach did not match the descriptions consisting more of large rocks than small pebbles which made it less than appealing.

Review 63:The furniture was extremely old and the overall quality not better than 2-3 star. The kitchen was quite well equipped but the cleaners did not even wash up two cups and one teaspoon. The steam room was out of service when we arrived and was still out of service one week later. The hotel is supposed to have a private beach but there is no beach. You can access the sea from a concrete platform - if you dare.

Review 67:Everything else is very strange for the 4* hotel and for any otherhotels too.1. The hotel is very old as if you are in early 1990's: the design of rooms and halls hasn't changed for a long-long time, all the equipment is decrepit, the hairdryer looks like a big vacuum cleaner, based on the wall... 8) it's difficult to open and close the windows properly, 2. You are enjoying cold tile floor without carpet in the room. 3. Breakfast is so poor, that you will definitely get tired of it on the third day. 4. They began to repair the balconies during our staying there. You can imagine - the dust was everywhere, the awful noise started at 10 and finished just by the evening. It was impossible to stay at the hotel. And nobody has told us about it before and hasn't suggested a discount for the inconvenience. We also couldn't use the pool during this period. 5. They ask money for printing boarding pass when you are leaving the hotel. Please choose another hotel for your trip to the woderful Madeira.

Review 70:Eng. The hotel is beautifully situated in the same ocean. Very good gymand indoor pool. Sauna and Turkish bath are very useful when the tidytours and hiking in the mountains. Lat. Review 71:The hotel is in need of refurbishment. It had leaking roofs. Water ingress through electrical fittings. There was a strong drains smell in our room. Ironmongery was worn. Lighting in public areas was dull making the place seem gloomy. Building repairs were proceeding thus a lot of machinery noise.

The hotel has onlyhilly area and not suitable to disabled people and to the people withthe baby carriages. The hotel has the beautiful area,the interestingareas for the getting a tan. There are very many bright plants. Theirapartments are very large area. I counsel this hotel for rest!

Review 83:Hotel Royal Orchid never!! The hotel is a concrete box where everything is heard. Never book room No. 309 and 310. They are under the dining room and bar. We had to move after three days because we could not sleep!! They meet us after the second complaint!!

Review 86:Highly overpriced, for the quality offered. We rented the large flat / Penthouse for 10 days. It was a very large apartment with plenty of space. But unfortunately you only pay for the space, not the quality. We did not have the good sea view which we expected when we booked the Penthouse at a sea-front hotel. The living room had no windows, but had a sliding door leading out to the Jacuzzi-room with windows. The apartment is in a very great need of updating and general facelift. Sofa and armchairs in the living room is completely worn out. Jacuzzi was not working well and it was not fresh. We had it repaired but the problem reoccurred. Icemaker out of order. Fridge sounded very loudly. DVD player was not working. All windows are in great need of cleaning. Window glazing bars hanging hither and thither. Rooftop terrace has an old dirty carpet full of old paint chips. Terrace furniture is ugly from water/sun damage and the sun beds are very dirty. One day came water from the top floor bathroom came through the ceiling in the dining room, and from damage to the ceiling, we noticed that it was not the first time. Huge bedrooms, Small beds very hard and uncomfortable. One bedroom 140 cm bed, second bedroom 2 x 80 cm beds. The apartment has many annoying blemishes and flaws that could be corrected easily if the ambition existed. Summary absolutely not what you expect from a Penthouse apartment.

Review 87:The gym was very good and well equipped and is free. Breakfast was good, even if it was a bit crowded and empty barrels some days. Penthouse kitchen was modern and well equipped.
