Reviews for The House Hostel
Review 1:Location is great, very near to intercity bus terminal and walkable distance to lots attraction. The lady staff (which I regretfully forgot to ask her name) was very friendly and helpful. She had provided us a map of the town attractions, foods recommendation and how to get to Seoraksan park from the hostel. She had also asked where I was going to next after Sokcho and gave me information of the bus timing. The foods recommendation was the best that I had eaten in Sokcho. Room was very cosy and the electric blanket was great, enabling a warm and nice stay for my winter trip. The design and layout of the whole hostel is very nice and homey. It's my 4th trip to Sokcho and this was the best stay ever. One do not have to do much homework of what to do in Sokcho and how to get around, once you are here, the staff will provide you with a lot useful information. I will definitely be back here to stay for my next hiking trip in Sokcho. And I strongly recommend to anyone who plans to visit Sokcho / Mt Seoraksan to stay here.
Review 2:Just a small suggestion - bigger towels and hooks to hang things in the rooms. Also lower heating!
Review 3:Yoo was amazing. He gave us excellent restaurant recommendations - every one was great! He was always available to help with any problem or querie! The atmosphere ar House Hostel was warm and welcoming, the breakfast room cosy and a great place to meet other international travelers!
Review 4:Staff very helpful and upon check-in show us the map around Sokcho and advise place to visit and sightseeing. Very convenient to travel around, walking distance from the bus terminal and value for money.
Review 5:Shower was in a bathtub. Hostel smelled a bit strange.
Review 6:When we arrived the owner didnt ask for money but showed a map and showed us first all the things we could do and the nearby dinner options. The rooms had its own bathroom and an electric blanket to heat up the bed.Free rusty bikes. couldn't be more fun with semi broken gears and brakes, crusted bike stand and asdle, but after a bit of trying the bike is ridable for a lovely tour arround the lighthouse and lake.
Review 7:the breakfast until 10am so need to wake up early to get the free breakfast. There is beautiful kitchen but cant cook or i cant find the stove. i dont bother to ask because of the recommended restaurants.
Review 8:Mr.Yoo makes me want to visit Sokcho again. He is so helpful and please listen to his tips, it is very useful. The restaurant that he recommended are all awesome. Once you step in, it feels so welcoming and warm and cozy. The room and the bathroom is spacious, so comfortable. Washing machine and dryer (need to pay) work fantastic. Just noticed that there are two bus stations in Sokcho. This one is near to the one from Dong Seoul station (take subway to Gabyeon station exit #4). The hostel is 5 min walking, if you know the short cut its only 3min.
Review 9:The House Hostel is a house away from home. It's warm and cozy. The special unique interior decor has made it a well deserved award winning hostel in Sokcho.
Review 10:The heating blanket feels so nice in winter. The owner Yoo is super welcoming and introduced us to amazing places to visit and to eat. It was perfect.
Review 11:None.
Review 12:The location is not far from bus station. Very friendly staff. Every floor is having its own water dispenser machine so we don't have to go downstairs to the pantry for water. Breakfast provided with bread, butter and jams. Very nice interior design. The staff actually brief us on how to spend our time in Sokcho with all the logistics and everything that we should know (where to eat, how to go to bus station, how much the fare for buses, where to go for sightseeing). This hostel provide bicycle so that we can ride for sightseeing around Sokcho. Near to convenience store.
Review 13:Everything is good there if I really want to say... I have to say that I'm shocked to see I have to put my own pillow case & bed sheets :) but anyway its a really tiny issue!
Review 14:Cozy dining area and the convenience to mt seoraksan! Walking distance to the tourist fish market too!
Review 15:If i were to be picky, then it will be the toilet in the room, where they could touch up and make it more new.
Review 16:The staff, especially Mr Yoo was informative and he always wears a smile. Guidance and tips were accurate and helpful. The common area is very cosy, with good decorations.
Review 17:Very close to the intercity terminal bus stop n bus stop itself. so u can reach bus or taxi easily. just take bus 7@7-1 to mount sorak. near to the city, very good staff, evertyhing bout house hostel n this city will be miss n loved forever. very recomended gh n if i would come back, absolutely will check in here cos it feel like ur home
Review 18:What is there to not like? Location was excellent as the bus stop to Seoraksan National Park was literally just in front of the guesthouse and there is a direct bus to the national park for 1200 won if I recall correctly. I travelled from Seoul and dropped at the Dongbu Express bus terminal which was 20min drive away but there's another bus terminal nearer. Staff was really helpful especially Mr Yoo and provided us with all the information, ie buses to take, hiking trails to take, places to eat etc. He helped us with our luggages and gave us a room on the ground floor instead of upstairs seeing that we didn't want to climb the stairs. A taxi was called for us on our check out day. The environment was the best among all the hostels I've stayed. The lounge and kitchen were so comfortable and homely. The room was beyond excellent and exceeded my expectations - really spacious (which is rare in Korea), very clean, TV provided, clean towels & toiletries given. Breakfast was generous which included toasts, jam, peanut butter, cereal (!!!!), milk (yayyy) and free flow coffee. No eggs though. Bicycles, maps are all provided for free!
Review 19:The cleaning of floor needs improvement. There is mosquito even in October.
Review 20:The location is great, as it is within 5 minutes walk from bus terminal, where there is bus transfer to Seoul. Yoo is very friendly and speaks good English.
Review 21:Nothing to dislike about this place.
Review 22:The hostel and its interior design makes the place very cozy and welcoming! The owner couldn't be nicer. I would highly recommend it!
Review 23:A little bit smelly, especially in the bathroom
Review 24:Perfect location: 5 min walk to the intercity bus terminal. 2 min walk to the Mt. Sorak bus stop. 10 min walk to downtown shop lots. Friendly staff. Clean room.
Review 25:There was a bathtub but no plug for it so it was basically just a basin for the shower. The room was a bit nicer than what you'd expect from a hostel but it's still a hostel so if you need luxury this is not the place to go. Would definitely stay here again.
Review 26:The owner was very welcoming, enthusiastic, and helpful. He took time to sit with every guest and give them information about the nearby attractions and how to get to them. He even kept our bags for us after checkout so we could explore Seoraksan comfortably.
Review 27:Nothing at all.
Review 28:Very very comfortable guesthouse, with friendly staff, good breakfast and a great atmosphere in the common rooms. The location is ideal for travelling to all nearby attractions by public transport.
Review 29:Free bicycles, while usable (some of them!), are not in good overall condition. Standard unhealthy breakfast: refined wheat flour bread (toast), jam, butter (margarine).
Review 30:Very good location: near to intercity bus station, near to bus station going to Seoraksan National Park, market withing walking distance. Nice staff. Free bicycles.
Review 31:It would be great to have a small ironing room within the property.
Review 32:Overall, the hotel has a very nice & peaceful setting with all little decorative items. Seriously, I love every corner of the hostel! The lady boss is being kind enough to offer us an early check-in at appx. 12 noon as my friend was having motion sickness due to the bus journey from Seoul - Sokcho. Thump up for the great hospitality. Meanwhile, the hostel is also close to the downtown & there's a bus stop situated just within 2 minute walking distance. This had make things much easier...
Review 33:The hostel itself is very beautiful and nicely decorated and the staff is really friendly and helpful. Nothing to complain about concernig the cleanliness either.
Review 34:We liked that Yoo and his team really put in much thought into promoting Sokcho and its surrounding areas. When we first arrived, we were given a very useful induction on where to go, what to eat and things to do. The staff was always friendly and one of the best things I really enjoyed was the free bike rental which allowed us to wander around freely.
