Reviews for Quinta de Valverde
Review 1:The location is up a hill. If you don't have a car with you, it's a heavy walk up. The bed was noisy every time you turned. You must not mind birds.
Review 2:Nice private place above the town. Only 6 houses between the trees. Easy to reach from the trainstation. Take a taxi the first time for 3,5 euro.
Review 3:Can be hard to find. Our GPS didn't know the address or the hotel. Find the hospital and look for the signs to the hotel.
Review 4:The garden around the buildings is just amazing. The Bungalow apartment is big with charming interior. A perfect base for trips around north Portugal.
Review 5:The property was up a steep hill requiring a taxi home at any time of the day. As there was no buzzer it meant we had to let the taxi driver out and then walk up the steep hill. This is not suitable for people of any age & should be sorted by the owner if they wish to get repeat business. Otherwise I would highly recommend.
Review 6:Luxurious accomodation on extensive grounds with pool. There was many different varieties of birds, many peacocks.
Review 7:No wifi in the apartment so had to go to the communal lounge to access it but that was very comfortable and right next door.
Review 8:A fabulous 2 bedroom apartment full of character and very comfortable with a great terrace overlooking the town and river. Very good value for money and a friendly welcome from Sandra.
Review 9:Didn't stay long enough.
Review 10:Apartment was incredibly well appointed and all impressively maintained. The garden are private but guests have full access to the property, and all within a short walk to the main area of Viana.
Review 11:Sleep disturbed by crowing roosters & narrow bed suitable for young couples only Gate locked at bottom for Which can only be opened with device Also when leaving implies you cannot return home by taxi; it's a long walk up after a meal & drinks! Lots of Cats surround you when eating outside
Review 12:View, lovely setting
Review 13:The house was damp. It smelled damp but that would have been ok if the beds hadn't been damp too. I slept on top of the duvet but tbh that was damp too. Such a shame.
Review 14:It was in a lovely setting and looked great, but......
Review 15:For us there was nothing to dislike. Without a car you need to be fit to walk up and down the hill to town.
Review 16:The setting - great views over the town, the docks and the bay. Beautiful buildings with an interesting history. This place is family-owned and family-run - a lovely feeling. The receptionist was incredibly helpful without being in the slightest intrusive. Swimming pool and grounds very beautiful. Great sense of privacy and relaxation.
Review 17:The mattress was uncomfortable and the bed squeaked with the slightest movement.
Review 18:The estate was in fabulous surroundings with wonderful views. The apartment was attractively furnished and well equipped. The swimming pool and surrounds were absolutely beautiful and peaceful. A wonderful place to relax. We very much enjoyed our experience there even though the weather was wet and misty.
Review 19:Those silly peacocks mentioned on other reviews are indeed a headache since they'll wake you up at 5am. The receptionist had a bit of an attitude. No breakfast was included. Ash trays could be found in the bedroom which is a sign that smoking may be taking place indoors.
Review 20:Beautiful view over the city. Room has a cozy cabin feel.
Review 21:Just a warning that if you are a light sleeper and like to keep your windows open, then it's likely that you'll be disturbed by the peacocks and other fowl kept on the property. It wasn't really a problem for us as the building was cool enough to keep the windows and doors closed at night, but beware!
Review 22:QdV delivers a quality product. The cottages, converted from farm buildings, are set in a beautiful and largely tranquil location and provide a real home from home. The town of Viana do Castelo is just at the bottom of the (steep!) hill and is full of history, a variety of shopping experiences and great restaurants. Most of the latter serve good quality food focused on the Minho tradition and are excellent value, particularly compared to the Algarve. This is also a great location to venture further afield, to Porto, Guimarães, Braga, Barcelo, and Ponte de Lima for example. We just had a great holiday and will definitely try to go back.
Review 23:Wifi is only available at the reception
Review 24:Excellent swimming pool, good location, nice decoration, spatious houses, friendly staff, wonderful peacocks and roosters
Review 25:Very little not to like about this accommodation.
Review 26:The location overlooking the town was wonderful. The grounds were excellent and well maintained. The accommodation a high standard.
Review 27:The beds were awful! Rock hard and would have been more comfortable sleeping on the tiled floors! The apartment was over furnished with ornaments and and made it feel cramped and tatty. No onsite facilities like a cafe, restaurant or small shop, was a pain as we only stayed for one night and coupled with the location meant we had to drive into the town to find the supermarket, not ideal with 2 young children after a day of travelling.
Review 28:Lovely location and views over the town, the pool was lovely and the setting very relaxed and peaceful.
Review 29:Didn't have any :)
Review 30:Location, view, cleaness, facilities
Review 31:All of it
Review 32:Some of kitchen equipment lacking
Review 33:Good accommodation in peaceful location Great swimming pool
Review 34:That we had to leave...
Review 35:Great place! Everything was awsome! Peacocks and nice birds in what felt like a private castle garden.
Review 36:Nothing
Review 37:Everything
Review 38:Having to leave
Review 39:The hill up to the property may put some people off, and the birds are a bit loud at times.
Review 40:The view. The staff were friendly and very helpful.
Review 41:Very nice staff. The place is beautiful with a great gardening. The view from our room was one of the best ever.
Review 42:Nothing. Wished see had been able to stay longer.
Review 43:Located above the hospital. Excellently presented apartments furnished to a very high standard.
Review 44:Apartment was unexpectedly well fitted with appliances- fridge, oven, hob freezer, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, sandwich toaster, even an electric juicer and all major brand products. Furniture was all top quality. Great place.
Review 45:- Very friendly and helpful staff - Excellent rooms and atmosphere - Great view - Nice setting in old park with wonderful plants - Well furnished apartments and well equiped kitchen
Review 46:The beds are too small and not very stable, not what you'ld expect in a 4 star place. No wifi in the room
Review 47:Location is perfect, with views over the city. It's quite and private. Rooms are big, there's a fireplace and they even left wood to burn it.
Review 48:Great location, on a hill and with great views to the village and the sea but still close enough to walk to the center. Very considerate staff, great apartments (very big and well equipped, great fireplace). Loved everything about the stay!
Review 49:Hard to get to and from without a car. No meals provided on site, so you need to bring everything in. The roosters and peacocks are charming but make themselves heard.
Review 50:Amazing setting up a steep hill from town with spectacular views. Remarkable peacocks, swans, ducks, chickens in enclosures on the property. Fireplace in the room a real plus.
Review 51:Exotic caged (30 or more!) birds only 20 metres from your bedroom screeching calling etc wake you up each morning at 0500!! No response from manager even whilst there on this important complaint!!!
Review 52:Location was ok (not for people who have difficulty walking or sleeping).
Review 53:The hotel was absolutely beautiful and relaxing. It had a "villa/quinta" like feel to it. The premises were very well kept. Staff was great. The location was perfect: it was a short walk to the city center but since it is on a hill, oce you are in the hotel you feel you are miles away. Wonderful experience.
Review 54:I cannot stay more than one night since i have to continue my trip.
Review 55:Everything. The staff was really kind with us. The apartment was cleaned, fully furnished, spacious and fully decorated. The kitchen had all te necessary applinaces we needed. Firewood was also availbale.
Review 56:location is up the hill so car is compulsory to move to anywhere, although there is a shopping area just down the hill.
Review 57:Hospitality, gereat views, peacefully and quiet
Review 58:While the setting is nice it is a fairly long steep walk up to the units from the town. The Quinta has a large number of caged birds on site including Peacocks, Swans and Pheasants. Some cages are within 40m or so of some units. You have to be OK with this and OK with the noise.
Review 59:The units are fairly large. Ours was decorated in a rustic manner. The setting is very nice. Good views, although some units have better views than others. Exceptional pool.
Review 60:The two bedroom apartment we rented was absolutely wonderful! It was notonly clean and comfortable, it was so spacious and so wonderfully andthoughtfully decorated. The kitchen was amazing-- we ate in each night, and there were more appliances available for our use than I even have inmy house. :)The view is spectacular, and we spent plenty of time relaxing on the front porch, reading and enjoying it. The pool is small and perfectly situated in a private clearing, and we had it all to ourselves-- what a luxury. The staff was wonderful as well. They were available for anything we needed, and also happy to just leave us alone to our own devices. Lastly, we loved the location. It feel so rural when you are in your quiet apartment, listening to the chickens and peacocks crow. Then, just 500 meters down the hill, there is a shopping center and just one more street across begins the quaint old town of Viana do Castelo. The beaches were just 10 minutes away, and the wonderful historical towns of Braga and Guimaraes are only a half hour or so away by car. We will definitely be back! It is the perfect place to relax, or to use as a base for exploring the Minho and the Green Coast.
Review 61:This is truly a beautiful facility with fantastic grounds and views. The 4am wake up call from the exotic bird pens was not welcome however. We also had to leave for an entire day as we were driven out by masons pounding on walls, pressure washer noise and a very loud tractor. This facility is very beautiful but not peaceful.
Review 62:One of the best resorts we have ever visited ! Located in a marvelous (9 hectare) private garden with swimming pool (unfortunatelly too cold water in March...), variety of different birds like peacocks, pheasants a swans are breeded there... Large apartment with fireplace was luxury equipped and really well maintained with great view of the city and harbour. Ve have really enjoyed our stay here !
Review 63:great location, quiet, green, good taste, beautiful view
Review 64:Lovely mansion on a hill overlooking the town, a 5-10 min walk away. Friendly reception, big apartments, great view of city and ocean.
Review 65:Peace & quiet, confort, good taste decoration, pool, beautiful gardens &architecture, excellent service.
Review 66:Fantastic apartment, beautifully decorated with great little luxury touches. Wonderful location and view. Would absolutely recommend
Review 67:Amazing view and patio for the apartment. Great garden!
