Reviews for Hanamuro Inn Aka Island

Review 1:The room is tiny and a bit lacking in privacy. It's very basic for what you pay.

Review 2:The couple who manage the place are wonderful, the food they cook is excellent and we enjoyed very much the night tour. The beds are really comfortable. Very quiet at night, as the rest of the island.

Review 3:There was no option to select a Single Person option, when booking. But fortunately, the hosts modified my booking to account for this and only charged me a one-person price. Excellent service, and very helpful.

Review 4:Riyeko and her husband are the best hosts in the Island. With tons of local knowledge about tides and snorkelling spots, exquisite meals for breakfast and dinner, their friendliness, gentle humour and great English, the Inn is a great 'home' for your holiday. You'll find a collection of guests from everywhere in the world, and dining outside under the red umbrellas, you're sure to have scintillating conversation and hear great travel stories. The location is right by the ferry port, and a short walk to forefront beaches, Aka Port Beach, cafes and shops, and 1.5km from Nishibama beach. This has been my favourite place to stay in Japan, and I will definitely return.

Review 5:Our stay at Hanamuro Inn was great, we only stayed one night not the two we had booked as we could not get to the island on the first night as the ferry was cancelled due to high waves. Hanamuro Inn was very understanding and altered our booking accordingly. We made it to a near by island and arrived the following morning. They were very helpful with working out the return ferries to make our flight. The food that was prepared for our dinner and breakfast was delicious and they were very helpful with snorkelling knowledge and hiring us the equipment. The layout of the property was great for the beach island environment, and the hosts English was excellent. Had a great stay thankyou.

Review 6:Breakfast could be served later as it was a set time of 7.30am each morning.

Review 7:Fantastic fresh food served each day. Very friendly staff who were always on hand with advice. The kayaking trip we did through them was fantastic. Even though showers and toilets are shared facilities they were always spotless.

Review 8:We had a great time staying in Hanamuro Inn on this Little Island full of sports with nearly untouched nature. Rieko and Masashi were so friendly warm welcoming, giving us a lot of tips what to do and see around like best places to watch fire- flies or where to see the deer all over the Island. Beaches and coral reefs are nearly unbroken and so beautiful. You can also rent bicycles and snorkel gear from Hanamuro. Food was delicious, Rieko always achieves a perfect match to please Asian and Western taste :-) Even if breakfast and dinner time was quite early, it totally fit to our Island Days. Would really like to come back - Thanks a lot again!

Review 9:Rooms are a bit small, but it's ok because it's just a place to sleep.

Review 10:The owners are great, and make your stay as pleasant as possible. Outside hot baths. Individual showers available. You can rent : snorkeling gear, kayak, bikes etc...

Review 11:We liked everything! Maybe just that the bathrooms weren't attached to the rooms, but they were still clean and nice.

Review 12:Very nice, comfortable place to stay! The innkeepers were incredibly nice and accommodating. They tried very hard to make sure we had a nice stay, and gave us some great suggestions about what to do on the island. They also hosted a very nice night tour of the island, which we really enjoyed! We felt like we were chatting with friends when we spoke to them. The food was delicious and made with lots of love. The rooms were clean and bright with comfy beds. We also really enjoyed the outdoor bathtubs!

Review 13:The excellent hospitality, so friendly and helpful with personalised service. The quality of the food was sensational and the optional activities were professionally managed, easy going and fun. Pick up and drop off from the wharf with a fond farewell by the owners.

Review 14:The Inn was fantastic for a short getaway weekend. The owners were incredibly welcoming, dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious, and there was plenty to do around the island. At first I wasn't thrilled about the shared bathroom, but it was sparklingly clean and I never had to wait for the facilities, even with several other couples there. Their outdoor bath tubs were lots of fun in the rain and really relaxing after a long day of snorkeling and diving.

Review 15:Great Location two minutes from Akajima port. Lots of activities proposed by the very friendly owner such as snorkeling, biking and kerama deer watching. Great experience, strongly recommended.

Review 16:The Hanamuro Inn is certainly a charming place and you are almost guaranteed to have a nice time there, but the facilities are simply not up to the price. Granted, there aren't that many lodgings on Aka Island and you also get a breakfast and a dinner, but even so, I can't consider it a great deal at this price. The room is extremely simple even for Japan standard and while opening on the porch is convenient, I'd appreciate more privacy.

Review 17:Most of all the owners - they really go out of their way to keep their guests happy and satisfied with their stay. They took us back and forth to the beaches on the island, made various recommendations and organized a nice soiree in the evening. A great thank you! I also really liked the dinner - Okinawan style and certainly more interesting than most restaurant offerings in the region. The place must be pretty in summer but we chanced upon bad weather and this really takes much charm off with the red umbrellas taken down and everything grim and dark. Aka Island itself has little to offer on bad weather but is still a nice place to hang.

Review 18:Bring your own towels. They don't provide towels or beachtowels.

Review 19:Fantastic!! We loved our time on the island. The couple running Hanamuro Inn are very hospitable. Every meal is a feast and they succeed in creating a nice admosphere with the people staying at the hotel. Thank you very much for our great time at Aka Island. They are very flexible, on our last day at the island we could keep the room since it was not booked. One day there was pretty bad rain and we still manage to relax in our rooms, have a tea in the kitchen and play games. The island itself is also amazing. You can relax and enjoy the nature, hike and bike around the island. Snorkel and go diving.

Review 20:Bring towels and be on time for breakfast and dinner.

Review 21:Family like accomodation in this excellent small hostel. Warm atmosphere and a 100% customer caring service gives the best conditions for enjoying holidays. Home made food is very good and of international style, so as the guests are. Allthough the room size is limided and bath is shared the situation is more then enjoyable.

Review 22:Nice accommondation, great dinner and breakfast, really friendly and helpfull host, who gave us suggestions for perfect snorkling-spots and beaches.

Review 23:The meals cooked by hostess were really delicious!

Review 24:Really enjoyed the friendly and accommodating staff!

Review 25:Facilities were a bit basic, but staff are very friendly and we really enjoyed our stay.

Review 26:Not much.

Review 27:Great place to stay all round. I loved the Kayaking & Snorkeling trip to nearby small island - it's lifelong memory for me.

Review 28:Rooms very small, kayak tour slightly expensive

Review 29:Surperb staff, excellent food, great location, good wifi

Review 30:The sinks should be positioned in more private place.

Review 31:If you want to experience real okinawan hospitality and excellent food stay at this place.

Review 32:Rather basic accomodation

Review 33:The owners are great and the food they prepare is excellent.

Review 34:nothing

Review 36:The unfortunate weather, and that we couldn't stay longer.

Review 37:Absolutely wonderful owners who were very welcoming and kind. They make amazing, beautiful food, and try their best to accommodate your preferences (for example, they made us delicious pancakes for breakfast!). We were picked up at the port and were also showed around to the close beaches, and were given excellent tips on what beaches to snorkel at what time (based on chances of wildlife occurrences and the elements). Wish we'd been able to go on their kayak tour (very affordable) but the weather did not cooperate. We also loved their deck/terrace area with picnic tables, an outdoor bar, and two outdoor baths... a great place to wind down with a beer after a trip to the beach! I can't wait to go back.

Review 38:Very hospitable and accomodating staff. Would like to go back!

Review 39:The staff were very friendly, and the food was excellent- they even waved us off on the ferry.

Review 40:Exceptional customer service, delicious, gourmet level food!
