Reviews for Hotel Nikko Nara

Review 1:None

Review 2:The hotel is just right outside the JR West exit! Convenient to travel around Nara as the bus stops are nearby. The rooms are very nice; we are glad to have a good price via Booking.com!

Review 3:So convenient - near the station - but room was quiet enough, with double glazing; ioniser a good thought. Room of modest size but quite okay for us. Breakfast excellent and not unreasonably priced. Staff knowledgeable, completely helpful and kind to these non-Japanese -speaking guests.

Review 4:Not possible to open the window in the room. No safe in the room. No Gym. Asked me to pay in advance, but after some phone calls agreed to pay at end.

Review 5:Spacious room. Comfortable bed. Public hot bath. Close to train station and town center.

Review 6:The Nikkonara is great--great low price for a very large double room and great location. It was very clean but some of the furniture was a bit 'nicked' etc. The location--attached to the JR station--is great. (Buses to the major sites stop outside the station.) I didn't have the breakfast so can't comment on that.

Review 7:Have to travel quite a fair bit to visit kyoto and osaka. Hotel facility is properly maintained but slightly run-down.

Review 8:Next to nara station. Easy for first time travellers

Review 9:This hotel is connected to the JR Nara Station. So accessible! The hotel staff was friendly and very accommodating, Japanese customer service at its best! The room, though quite small for the reservation for 4 adults was squeaky clean.

Review 10:Carpeting in the hallways on the room levels somewhat worn and saggy, room a bit cramped, window does not open, no room safe. Nevertheless Nikko Nara Hotel a perfectly acceptable location for a few days visit to Nara.

Review 11:Location and convenience. My priority was ease of access to the hotel from JR train station, and ease of access to the airport limousine bus. There is no better hotel from that point of view, Nikko Nara is directly connected to the train station. Also within the same building were grocery food market and food courts. Lobby has very attractive appearance. Persons in the front desk helpful. Restaurant and all common areas very clean and well attended to. Bed very comfortable. Non-smoking rooms available.

Review 12:in hotel dinning was VERY expensive.

Review 13:Walking distance from train station. Surrounded by decent shopping and food. Good attentive staff, GREAT English speakers.

Review 14:Employees not speaking english at all. Paying with a credit card (VISA) was very very difficult although it was already notified when booking the room. Bath not very accessible, as opening times were not so extended.

Review 15:Right beside the Rail Station, so it's a great hotel if you are getting to Nara late and tired

Review 16:Nothing major. The window didn't open, so you have to rely on the aircon. The bath house is only open in the afternoon and evening

Review 17:Comfortable, competent hotel directly next to the Nara train station

Review 18:Adjacent to Nara railway station. Upmarket accommodation and professional staff. Extensive choice at buffet breakfast (mostly Japanese cuisine but enough western too).

Review 19:small shower room

Review 20:+immediate access from JR station & tourist information +close to Aeon which opens till 12 midnight +easy to take bus +good size room

Review 21:Everything perfect, this place is the center to go everywhere in Nara. We got the place in last minute and not disappointed with this hotel. We stayed here two nights. The staff is so friendly. Can buy one day pass bus at the hotel, very convenient. Must suggest to every one who will visit Nara. The public bath at the hotel is also good, I like it. (the hotel should tell that they have public bath, I cannot find this information when I made the booking)

Review 22:Good location, nice view on top floor, clean room and comfortable bed.

Review 23:Nothing

Review 24:Great location. Close to the JR station, yet it is quite during the night. The staff are really helpful. I like the breakfast a lot. The size of room is rather big for a Japanese hotel.

Review 25:Very lovely hotel staff. I told front desk staff I left something in the airport bus from kansai airport. Four of them made a few calls to make sure they found my thing and would return to me the next morning when bus comes to Nara. The staff accompany me to the bus stop and communicate with bus driver for me. I am truly impressed by them and I will definitely come back.

Review 26:No safe deposit box in the room, this was the only hotel we encountered during our trip to Japan without this facility.

Review 27:Very convenient location, (attached to the JR station) Staff looked after our baggage when we arrived and arranged late check out for us as requested.

Review 28:Great location near the railyway station and city center, small supermarket very close. Nara is a great place to be overall. Clean rooms, etc. We missed nothing.

Review 29:Room is small for 4 persons.

Review 30:Great location, clean and nice. In fact, surprisingly nice for a hotel that's practically inside the railway station. Reasonably priced parking.

Review 31:Unfortunately, no :D

Review 32:The breakfast was expensive, but fabulous! The internet connection was good. Room was quite spacious compared with other Japanese hotels. There were everything you need inside the room and around the hotel. :D

Review 33:No bar in the evening. All restaurants close at 9pm. Nowhere to sit & have a drink or snack other than in bedroom.

Review 34:Lovely hotel, great choice of food at breakfast buffet. Great location - near shops, temples, Nara Deer Park, buses and trains.

Review 35:"Family" room was same as a double room with an extra bed rolled in, for double the price. It was very cramped for three people. Breakfast was too expensive (1800 y per person). Wished we had access to a microwave to heat some rice.

Review 36:Location next to station is very convenient. Communal bath was nice. Tea set and minifridge in room. 15 min walk to park and temples. Lots of restaurants in between.

Review 37:Not the usual nikko hotel standard: breakfast was limited to Asian food and the bed was small. Staff was not helpful when we had some issues while arriving.

Review 38:great location

Review 39:Although it took me a little while to understand where the hotel was as you have to walk through the station, once I located it I found it very convenient as it is up the road from many historic sights, wonderful restaurants and, of course, access to trains and buses was immediate. The staff were friendly and helpful. The price was really low for the quality of my stay.

Review 40:Not much, maybe the breakfast cold be a bit more international.

Review 41:Hotel is perfectly located at the train station plus walking distance to all major sites including a wide variety of restaurants

Review 42:The rooms are too small and very old.

Review 43:The Hotel is conveniently located next to the JR Station making transit to Osaka / Kyoto or other locations is Japan very easy.

Review 44:Its a bubble era hotel maybe 30-40 years old, clean but a little dated. Would have preferred to stay at Nara hotel (taxi driver took us there by mistake and we regretted not booking)

Review 45:Large comfortable room and bathroom. Station location super convenient for train, bus, supermarket, many restaurants.

Review 46:In the booking.com I have seen and booked that the breakfast included but when we checked in, the reception informed that we have to pay for breakfast

Review 47:Excellent staff. Perfect location in the station for transport and short walk to the park/temples. Only stayed 1 night but seemed to have all you need for a base to explore the region.

Review 48:Very convenient location right next to station (JR line) and yet there was no noise from it. Could walk to all the sights (about 20 mins away). Shops and restaurants close by. Impressive lobby area.

Review 49:Service had stopped at 9pm so was not available to us when we arrived shortly after that time.

Review 50:The quality of the accommodation and service. We did not make use of the hotel's catering so cannot comment.

Review 51:The hotel is conveniently located near the JR station, and right next to Sanjo dori, where there are lots of nice shops and restaurants. Nara park is a 20 minute walk away, but there is a lot to see en route. Staff was very helpful, rooms were very comfortable and stylish. I have no complaints about this excellent hotel.

Review 52:Windows didn't open and were blurry, couldn't see out clearly (possibly due to problem with tinting?), the location of the 'smoking room' in the lobby area, a little too pricey

Review 53:Convenient to JR Station, shopping, long walk to Nara Park

Review 54:They don't let you in the hot baths if you have a tattoom however small.

Review 55:Close to all the major sights, very easy to find, good on site resturants, but also close to other eateries and super markets.

Review 56:No coffee available inside room, window is not openable. Glass is fazed.

Review 57:Location close to train station, grocery store, drug store and restaurants,. large room, comfortable bed

Review 58:Nothing really.

Review 59:The hotel is literally right next to Nara station - you don't even need to walk out of roof. Local buses in Nara station can connect you to all sightseeing places in Nara. Staffs are friendly and speak good English. Room is relatively big compared to similar price in Tokyo or Osaka.

Review 60:Nothing it was perfect!!!

Review 61:The hotel is connected to the train station, and all the buses, what make it very convenient, the rooms are very spacious, perfectly clean, despite the location is very silent our room was facing towards the rail track, we didn't hear any noise from the trains, the beds are very comfortable, the food is very good

Review 62:The umbrella supplied by the hotel was way too small.

Review 63:Literally 1 minute walk from the JR Nara station. A huge Aeon supermarket is just located right inside the station, so it is very easy to get some cheap breakfast or snacks from there. Nara is a great place for bike riding and you can rent bikes for only 800 yen/day directly from the hotel. Great view of the JR station.

Review 64:They charged me for parking when I didn't have a car. At first I actually thought it was taxes/other charges (but I was baffled that this happened because booking.com's website says I pay nothing more than the published rates on this website), but upon check-out they tried giving me a parking ticket stub--only then did I realise that I was charged for parking fee when I checked in. Granted my poor Japanese skills (or I was simply too tired at that time since I was checking in late at night) may have had something to do with it, I still felt that they should have made it clear. They did refund me and apologised for the confusion.

Review 65:Easily accessible, friendly and hospitable staff. They agreed to take in my luggage when I arrived earlier than the standard check-in time, which was very helpful and convenient for me as I was travelling alone.

Review 66:everything fine!

Review 67:perfect location aside JR Nara station, fine room, clean bath with bathtub, strong WiFi. extreme bargain price. It was a pleasure to stay there.

Review 68:This is an excellent hotel with a great location. It's next to the JR Nara railway station. It has excellent facilities, appart fron no pool or gym, but it was cheap as far as Japanese hotels go. I would say to any travellers wanting top go to Nara-please go to this location.

Review 69:Late checkout price was NOT comparable to Booking.com rate.

Review 70:Location at JR Nara Station with convenient market, shops, tourist info center, and walking distance to Nara Park.

Review 71:Nothing really, as hotel complemented our trip in terms of location and facilities.

Review 72:Good sized room, comfortable bed, nice city view from window, very clean and well located for train station and coach to airport. Excellent shopping mall next to hotel for gifts and food shopping. Ten minute walk into central Nara.

Review 73:It needs a bit of a uplift but it's decent and value for money.

Review 74:Within 20meters of the JR station as well as many shops and a supermarket. A laundry is also nearby. It's a 20 minute (very slow) walk to the first main attraction of Nara so quite easy to get around. It's value for money and relatively pokey but clean.

Review 75:As with most Japanese Hotels, you might find the beds to be a bit firm. The restaurants in the hotel are excellent and the staff at the front desk can speak english. Overall it's a great hotel that is within walking distance to large variety of shops and restaurants.

Review 76:Very close to JR Nara Station and bus terminal, and a mall with supermarket and restaurants. Polite, efficient and helpful staff. Relatively big room with nice open view.

Review 77:Price was too high, the room was very small. The bathroom was super tiny, only one person can go in there at a time.

Review 78:The hotel is right next to the JR Nara station. Staff was friendly.

Review 79:Room window cannot be opened and the heater temperature is too warm for comfort during winter.Bed is not firm.

Review 80:Great location.JR station just 3 mins walk away.It was raining when we arrived at the station but was sheltered with the covered walkway leading to the hotel.Supermarket and restaurants just below station.

Review 81:English speaking staff was incredibly helpful. Nikko Nara included many amenities and more, including karaoke! Staff was also kind enough to let us leave our bags while we went to sight see around Nara - the deer park only a ten minute walk from the hotel

Review 82:Expensive restaurants, even for Japan. Hotel pricing policy - I made a booking for 2 nights and asked about increasing it to 3. They wanted to charge me 2.5 times as much for the third night as for the first two. We declined. They tried to explain that they hadn't been busy when I first booked so the prices were lowered (although this had been several weeks earlier, so I'm not sure how they would know the situation on, or just before, the date of my arrival). When I wanted to add a night they had put prices up to reflect increased demand. I expect this to some extent, but to increase the price for an existing client by a factor of 2.5 seems bad PR to me. At the price we paid, the place was good value. At the price they were demanding for our 3rd. night it certainly wasn't such good value.

Review 83:Easy access to station, town and sights. Clean comfortable rooms. Helpful staff. Note that, despite the proximity of the station, we hardly heard a thing during the night - granted we were on the 5th (?) floor, but the sound-proofing was definitely effective

Review 84:Close to train & bus stations, but most of the temples and tourist sites are at Nara Park. No in-room coffee, but good bakeries/coffee shops are close by.

Review 85:Proximity to train station, restaurants, & grocery store. A coin laundry is also nearby. Front desk staff spoke excellent English and were very helpful.

Review 86:Dyson hot/cold fan provided by staff helped a little with the overheating, but it was noisy. Prices were higher than Hotel Nikko Kanazawa, a hotel that I enjoyed much more.

Review 87:Staff, breakfast, room apart from central heating

Review 88:Convenient location of the hotel which is just beside the JR Nara station. The loop bus to the top attractions in Nara is also just outside the hotel. Restaurants and a supermarket is also close by.

Review 89:The Hotel Nikko Nara is a first class hotel situated right next to thejr Nara train station, making it easy to travel by rail or bus to allthe major attractions. The rooms are clean, well furnished and the bedsquite comfortable. The bathroom includes a separate soaking tub andshower area so you can enjoy a Japanese bath in your own room. They alsohave a free public bath on the 6th floor to relax those sore musclesafter a long day of visiting the many temples in Nara. Their breakfastbuffet offers a wide selection of Japanese and western dishes with newchoices each day so you don't get bored eating the same things everymorning. Because Hotel Nikko Nara is next to the train station, thereare lots of restaurants and shops to explore within easy walkingdistance from the hotel. It's a great hotel in a great location. Youwon't be disappointed.

Review 90:I got a deal from booking.com for 4 nights for a single bed business room. However, the hotel ran out of those rooms and upgraded me to a regular full sized room(two double beds) for free. All the staff is very friendly. They will try and communicate with you in English even though they may not be very good speakers. The hotel was very clean and in really good condition (including the room). As mentioned, the hotel is connected to the train station with some restaurants and a grocery store in the station if you want to eat close. I stayed here and then took a train to Kyoto and Osaka to avoid having to change hotels all the time, so it was nice not having to take a taxi to the station. Just take an elevator down and walk the 30 secs from the elevator to the station platforms.

Review 91:There was only green tea and no milk, coffee or sugar provided. Other hotels for the same price provided those items which are very welcoming for overseas visitors.

Review 92:A well appointed room, very spacious and could walk up to the temples and park, or catch the bus closeby.

Review 93:The room was quiet and non-smoking as requested-Thanks. However, this hotel is toward the budget end of things, and the rooms are a bit cramped. But you get what you pay for in most cases, and this hotel meets that price point.

Review 94:Being right alongside the JR station is very handy, and helped for a quick visit to the Nikko Temples at an affordable cost.

Review 95:The soundproof of the room was not good.

Review 96:Very helpful staff. I left my camera bag with a zoom lens and a charger inside in the hotel room, which I realized only late in the evening when I was already in Osaka. I called and asked the hotel whether they could send it to HK where I live and I was told that under the hotel policy, they could only send things by courier within Japan and it would take two days for it to be delivered to Osaka, which was not an workable solution as we would be already gone by then. They instead suggested that they would call around courier service providers whether they could deliver the bag to HK subject to the payment to be received in HK (They said they could not charge the cost to my credit card without me being present at the hotel). To my big and pleasant surprise, however, on the next day, one of the hotel staff delivered the bag to the hotel in Osaka where I was staying the next day.

Review 97:Breakfast could be more west friendly. The choice of bread and fruit was lacking and couldn't find any cheese which is a must in my breakfast.

Review 98:This is a pretty standard Japanese hotel. Location is convenient, almost inside JR station. My room was comfortable, with a nice shower and many amenities.

Review 99:Wanted to ask an early check in when I arrived at 11am (normal check in is 1pm) and the staff told me I have to pay about 60000yen. That's just a little less than the nightly rate. No thanks.

Review 100:Connected with Nara JR station. Travellers can also take buses to Nara Park and other main tourist destinations (East side). Breakfast quality is exceptional with a variety of choices (western and japanese).

Review 101:Very small room. Given a room located in the lowest level. I guess one of the worst rooms in the house due to booking through Booking.com. Charge full 3 days of stay upfront on check in.

Review 102:Nothing.

Review 103:Right next to (actually attached to) the train station, and still an easy 10-15 minute walk to Nara Park. Super clean, comfortable bed, helpful staff.

Review 104:The hotel location was excellent for us to take a train, shop, and eat out. There was a coin laundry across from the hotel, which was very convenient for a long stay.

Review 105:nice, good english speaking staff big room with 2 big beds possibilty to upgrade room for little money great restaurants in the hotel near shopping area and Nara park

Review 106:The useless TV options on the pay TV , $15 aust to watch one movie at a booked time is not what you would call a good service

Review 107:The food and hotel restaurants

Review 108:The space for the triple room was a bit cramped, but it is that way for most Japanese hotels that offer triple rooms.

Review 109:The rooms were clean and well stocked. The beds were comfortable. Easy access to the hotel from the train station and most attractions were less than a 15 minute walk away.

Review 110:Staff were excellent....very polite and informative. Good location...next to JR rail...room is quite small but very clean and quiet. Everything is very convenient while staying in this hotel.

Review 111:I found a big and disgusting cockroach in my room so they offered to move to another room. They called me to my mobile phone when I was already in Tokyo but I missed the call. When I called back the next day, nobody knew the reason why the had called... On the other hand, the room was quite small even for a single person.

Review 112:Excelent location at the train station, easy to get the main atractions by walking. The hall and the reception were lovely.

Review 113:Nithing was innapropriate and we fully appreciated our stay.

Review 114:The atmosphere was very luxurious at this 4 stars hotel. We had a fast check-in and were nicely welcomed to our large double-room. The staff would talk good English and the facilities were simply amazing, including the public bath. In addition, the location of the hotel is very convenient, just near the Nara train station (2 minutes).

Review 115:The fact that you could only get a buffet meal in the evening - no al la carte available in the Hotel 'Italian' restaurant

Review 116:Right next to railway station, tourist information, taxi stand, bus station. Some excellent food outlets in the mall beneath the hotel.

Review 117:location

Review 118:Excellent location, just next to Nara station

Review 119:Clean, friendly people and the location is just next to Nara Station.

Review 120:Location Wonderful place-go to Nara our favourite place

Review 121:Teppan Grill Icho is nice restaurant .

Review 122:Very near the station easy to walk to restaurants. We walked to the park near the sights a long walk but doable.
