Reviews for Hotel Jardim Viana do Castelo

Review 1:The traffic and the out doors could be heard from our room, which was located facing the park. . We were offered the option to change when a room was available, which we turned down .We stayed for two weeks but we adapted.

Review 2:Staff was very helpful attending to our requests . I asked for a hair dryer and extra hangers for our clothes.

Review 3:I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Jardim Viana very much. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, despite my not being able to speak portuguese. The room was spacious - I had a twin room, with a street view - which was not too noisy. I loved the decor. It rained the whole time I was there, so I spent a lot of time indoors! I recommend staying here.

Review 4:It' not ready the breakfast at 7 and without coffee. It's front of very noisy street.

Review 5:The room is bright with two big window. Location is central.

Review 6:Liked everything about this hotel

Review 7:We have just returned from a 10 day stay at Hotel Jardim and can't recommend it highly enough. The hotel is spotless, apparently the Portugese in this region pride themselves on cleanliness. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The location is excellent. It is right in the centre of town and just across the road from the ferry that takes you to the beach. The tourist information which hires out bikes is also just across the road. There are many excellent restaurants within a few hundred metres. We were staying in Viana do Castello for a sailing event and would love to go back to explore this lovely town and the region. We would definitely stay at Hotel Jardim when we go back.

Review 8:The only problem was that we couldn't get wifi in our room. We had to access internet in the lobby.

Review 9:Great location provides easy walking access to all important sites, restaurants, and a ferry to a beautiful beach. The hotel is old fashioned but a fun stay.

Review 10:The staff was not friendly at all and there were problems with the wifi.

Review 11:The hotel is in the city center with nearby free parking. Rooms are clean and comfortable.

Review 12:First night was good, second night somebody on the room above got up at 3am with hard shoes and walk around for an hour like they were getting ready to leave and packing up.

Review 13:Room size was good, bath was large and nice, back room had pretty view of church on the hill and old town area.

Review 14:The hotel details mention 'laundry' which I misunderstood. There is not a washing service for guests personal clothing!

Review 15:The spacious room was spotlessly clean, the beds comfortable and the breakfasts very good with lots of fruit. The wifi was really excellent and as the weather was cold it was great that the air conditioner worked well as a heater.

Review 16:There is no free parking in the hotel; however, a public place with free parking with sufficient number of places is within 8 mins of a pleasant walk, not speaking about a paid parking nearby.

Review 17:good location in the city center; We had a spacious twin room with the view at the river; some other rooms may be smaller.

Review 18:It was rather noisy at night as students were partying around the hotel.

Review 19:The location of this hotel is excellent. We requested a room with a view in the river and they arranged for it. The room was big but nothing fancy. Good value for money. We will stay there again if we go back to Viana.

Review 20:The bed was not very comfortable and due to the street in front of the hotel it was loud in the morning.

Review 21:The room itself and also the bathroom was quite big and we had our own balcony. Everything was very clean and the breakfast was very good, we didn't miss anything.

Review 22:So the place does look a bit like it hasn't been updated in a while our bathroom suite was orange but I actually loved the 1970s retro character. There is only one tiny lift which takes two people.

Review 23:Solid stone window surrounds and heavy wooden shutters give it old world charm. Views of the basilica from our 3rd floor room were excellent. Location is ideal for Viana's historic center

Review 24:This is not in any way the fault of the hotel, but do be aware, if you're a light sleeper, that sound leaks between rooms. We were kept awake by a party in a neighbouring room both nights that we stayed - this is of course the fault of selfish guests and not the hotel management, but do be aware that it is an old building (with heavy doors, jangling keys, a creaky lift etc) and can be noisy.

Review 25:This hotel was charming, with old-fashioned but exceptionally clean rooms. The beds were very comfortable, the linen was clean, the room had masses of storage space, the breakfast was lovely, and the location is fantastic. The staff couldn't have been more helpful - in particular, the gentleman who checked us in gave us lots of tips on things to do around town. We also had a problem with our bathroom light and it was fixed within the hour. English and French was spoken, and the staff put up with us even as we tried out our dodgy Portuguese!

Review 26:Was a bit of noise from outside but nothing that was unacceptable .

Review 27:Friendly staff and great location .Parking nearby. Was value for money and would recommend

Review 28:The hotel is a little old, it would need some renovation

Review 29:Hotel conveniently located, near the center of the town and near a free parking. The room was clean and the staff very kind.

Review 30:Nothing.

Review 31:The whole staff was very friendly and helpful with local information and in trying to make one's stay as pleasant as possible. The computer provided for guest use was a plus. The hotel is very clean and my room was large, airy with a good bathroom. Breakfast was good and the orange juice was better than in many hotels of the same level. I was there for 6 days and enjoyed the easy access by bus or train to neighboring Ponte de Lima, Barcelos. I did not go to Braga since I had stayed there but I know it was easy to get to. Thank you to the staff at Jardim for a lovely week.

Review 32:Very small room without any wiew.

Review 33:Located very central. Close to Restaurant area

Review 34:The hotel was full of character. The staff were friendly and helpful.close to bars and restaurants.

Review 35:Reception was very helpful

Review 36:Bathroom was smallish and with shower in bath not very practical.

Review 37:Very helpfull staff, nice location.

Review 49:Location, big room, good view, hospitality of the hotel personnels

Review 50:Nothing at all.

Review 51:Perfect ratio value for money, excellent emplacement, spacious and clean room, very friendly staff.

Review 52:Rooms are not sound proofed at all. The hotel is quite aged. Needs total refurbishing.

Review 53:Location, price

Review 54:The beds killed us...too hard!o

Review 55:Staff very friendly and breakfast v good

Review 56:Viana do Castelo was a nice surprise. Hotel Jardim a great find. Nice rooms overlooking the river.

Review 57:Staff were excellent, made our stay a pleasure, and went above and beyond expectations helping with arrangements for the next portion of our trip

Review 58:Bed bit hard and no access to international news channels on tv

Review 59:Good location. Helpful, friendly staff. Room very clean with good en suite.

Review 60:not very satisfied bathroom

Review 61:The location is just perfet, beside river and next to city centre.

Review 62:Socket for charging phone/ camera in bathroom.

Review 63:Staff friendly and helpfull. Location perfect for old town, walks on sea front and parks. Ten mins to bus and train stations with modern "mall" for shop-a-holics!!

Review 64:Nothing

Review 65:Old building with enormous rooms and bathroom, friendly staff, reasonable breakfast, in the best part of town and just down the road from railway station where their is a big modern shopping centre Good wifi connection

Review 66:No negative comments regarding hotel. Vianna Del Castelo a bit of a disappointment. Reputation for sea food very overstated. Worth maybe at most a 2 day stay.

Review 67:Nice staff, very helpful. Comfortable room, spacious.

Review 68:Matress was a little on the hard side and tv only had 5 Portuguese channels, despite there being a list of some 20 apparently available

Review 69:The staff were friendly and the room clean, light and airy.Breakfast was good with wide selection. Location is good for easy access to town centre and yet with lovely views over the estuary

Review 70:Breakfast quite basic, though nice fruit and good orange juice.. The only hot food was scrambled egg - every day!

Review 71:Good location on riverfront, near old quarter, with restaurants nearby and just a short walk to the train and bus stations. Spacious room with good air conditioning

Review 72:Noisy surroundings. Public parking place nearby very expensive (we paid more than 20€ for one night). Terrible bed. Poor decoration in the bedroom(needs an updating).

Review 73:Ok for one night but not more. Breakfast ok.

Review 74:Warm welcome. Room was very nice and breakfasts good. Location great as near both beach and old town. Also plenty of restaurants nearby. No too far to travel to Oporto and the Duero. Thorougly enjoyed our 4 day stay

Review 75:Free parking was located 5 minute walk away. Not much of a hassle.

Review 76:Staff friendly and helpful, room was nice size with large bathroom, nice view either front or back, morning breakfast nice. It was close to the old town center with nice shipping or strolling around enjoying the sites. Because of the hotel and friendly city, we added a day to our stay with Hotel Jardim.

Review 77:The hotel is very cosy, and the staff is very gentle.the nearness of the beautifull Public Library (by portuguese architect Álvaro Siza) is plus! it's very nice to go inside and enjoy the quietness of the rooms.

Review 78:Only slight problem was that the bed was a bit hard and resulted in some shoulder and hip discomfit.Take a travel kettle

Review 79:Friendly,clean and good facilities. Traditional Portuguese feel to hotel.

Review 80:A fine location, the hotel facing the street, river (and some buildings).Behind the hotel lies the old town. A parkinghouse across the street. Some rooms has an fantastic view to the hils and rooftops.

Review 81:We only stayed for three nights. Saturday night there was a disco not to far away and between the music and the noise of the revelers going home sometime between 4am and 7am not a lot of sleep was got, Monday night something similar but noise finished about 4am,

Review 82:The hotel itself was very clean and accommodation good. The staff were very friendly and helpful in an unobtrusive kind of way. Within walking distance of any area in the town. Parking can be arranged, quiet cheaply in an underground car park adjacent to the hotel

Review 83:One of the more expensive places we stayed in Portugal and comparing itto others, this was quite poor value for money. Also, if you like a bitof peace while you're getting your first caffeine hit of the day, thisis not the place for you. Breakfast room is small, cramped and noisy andbreakfast, and coffee, is so/so.

Review 84:Fantastic location. Clean, spacious room.

Review 85:Breakfast was sparse and not replenished. The man on reception when wechecked in was very friendly but later reception staff were not veryhelpful and in fact caused us quite a lot of concern when we left.

Review 86:The position of the hotel was great and the room was superb, althoughthe bathroom was a bit worn but this was made up fr by the spaciouscomfortable bedroom. The best room we have had in three months of travelin Spain and Portugal.

Review 87:From reviews I somehow imagined that it was almost a boutique hotel; well, it is not. It is a nice and older guest house with good location. I guess I expected more but was still satisfied.

Review 88:I had a very pleasant stay at this hotel; convenient location (near river promenade and 1 min to catch the ferry to the beach); very nice staff; ok breakfast; clean and very spacious rooms.

Review 89:- Location - Individual rooms, nice made (special touch with fantasie ....) - Breakfast-room and -selection OK. - Garage near the Hotel (special price) Price-value relation in all - quite good!

Review 90:Very painful bug bites from bed. I've never had such terrible ones. Over 10 across back and arms.
